Apparently, and this is per Tony Khan in the post-show, the big boom at the end being a shit show is part of the angle because Kenny Omega built the explosives and he's not very good at building the explosives. I guess it adds context to the segment a few weeks ago but like...it doesn't explain Eddie Kingston selling like he died. This feels like them kayfabing. Not even the women's match was any good? Shida/Mizunami was perfectly fine but I thought it went a bit long. Would genuinely call it the third best match on the show.

AEW seems determined to collect as many wrestlers as possible even with no time to showcase half of them.

I tried following online but tapped out shortly after 11. Good news I won the Super Bowl on Madden w Lions so the night wasn’t a total bust.

I saw this PPV match last night. I thought most of the matches were good but not anything overly special and not worth $50. I also thought the show overall was predictable as I got every outcome correct other than Scorpio Sky winning the ladder match.
As for Christian Cage being the new hall of fame caliber signing, I don't have a problem with it. Calling someone hall of fame caliber is a very broad description as there are different wrestling hall of fames with different standards for inclusion. Christian to me is definitely a modern-day Hall of Famer by the standards for at least 1 hall of fame which is the WWE Hall of Fame although he obviously won't be making the WWE Hall of Fame anytime soon.
My favorite match was the main event which unfortunately suffered by the botched explosion at the end for which the criticism is valid.
Overall I give this show a B-/C+. GCW's Take Care which I saw the night before was the better show which I give an A-.

AEW seems determined to collect as many wrestlers as possible even with no time to showcase half of them. I mean.... they do have two more shows on the way that will need to be filled. They seem to be content to use indy talent to put over their roster on the Dark shows though. As for what I saw of Revolution, I didn't love it. To be fair, I didn't have a ton of the context leading up to it so some of the matches didn't have any meaning behind them to me. A few thoughts though: Sting/Darby vs. Team Taz was far and away the highlight of the show. I thought it was really well done all the way around. It was the epitome of what a pro wrestling street fight should be. It wasn't just 4 guys hitting each other with garbage they found lying around but there was plenty of atypical wrestling spots to make it feel special and much more brutal than the average pro wrestling match. It worked to Sting's weaknesses (age, injuries, etc.) and worked to the other 3's strengths. The main event was almost a complete bust for me. I actually caught some of the build up to this but this sort of gimmick match is never going to be up my alley but seeing it in action really solidified that feeling for me. The ending of the match was especially bad but the "explosions" throughout the match weren't good either. It always felt like they were obviously explosions going off where the wrestlers weren't. The ladder match was OK. Really made it feel like there were too many gimmick matches on this show though. These guys are going to put their bodies on the line in a brutal ladder match for a CHANCE at the TV title? Not a world title... the TV title. Also, not having any backstory I called Scorpio Sky winning before the match even began. To me the best spot/s of the match was when Lance Archer cleaned house and that entire exchange could have essentially happened without it being a ladder match. Christian Cage was a pretty lackluster HUGE signing. I like Christian a lot though and think he could be a benefit to AEW, if used right and not just lumped in with the rest of their roster. They shouldn't have built him up as such a huge deal prior to this event. And then to not have him say anything, just sign the contract and show off a t-shirt to go purchase made it even worse. I actually think the Miro/Sabian vs. Cassidy/Chuck Taylor match was my 2nd favorite of the show. Mostly because of Miro. He looked like a BEAST here. The attack before the match was good as well. This also wasn't a 25 minute match which helped immensely. Every match doesn't need to be so long. The Women's title match was pretty meh to me. It was fine but again I had no context and didn't gain any throughout the match. It was an OK title match between a champ and who I assume was the most deserving challenger. No grudges or anything. The Women's tag match to kick off the show starts with a wannabe J-Pop star singing (poorly) with shots of the crowd supposedly into it. I was wishing Britt Baker would have just attacked her right there before the match even got started. They refer to this girl as the "cutest in the world." After giving a mini concert, having the fans cheer for her and having the announcers sell her as a fan favorite, the cutest in the world flips off the crowd. Other than a lot of those sorts of little things not making sense, the match itself was decent, if a little long. I didn't see the other couple matches so I can't comment any further. I didn't love it by any means but there were a few highlights.

Pike, the challenger in the women's title match won a 16-woman tournament to get a shot at the title.

Pike, the challenger in the women's title match won a 16-woman tournament to get a shot at the title. That's right. They did mention that. It still just sorta felt like an ordinary, every day match. It was fine but nothing special in any way. Which is fine. Just didn't do anything for me. I kind of have a hard time with AEW's women's division having so many Japanese wrestlers. To be clear, it's not a race thing, it's more that I find it hard to understand their personalities if they don't speak English and wrestle a similar style. Essentially all I know is that Riho is small. I think Emi Sakura is kinda bad but not Britt Baker bad. Maybe I'd have a better feel for things if I watched more though. I'm sure you have known these ladies for years. The fault could be on me for not having followed things as closely but AEW hasn't done a great job with their women's division since the beginning.
