Canadian Open Tag Team Title Tournament – Semi-Finals
Magnum T.A. & Barry Windham def. Marcus Alexander Bagwell when Allen pins Scorpio. Morgan Dollar has strict instructions for both teams before the bell. The open minutes are a flurry of back and forth action with all four men seeing time in the ring that ends when Scorpio and Allen crash together in the corner. Scorpio recovers first and hits THE DISS THAT DON’T MISS for a big near fall but and then he is joined by Bagwell for a double dropkick. Allen soon makes a key defensive tag and the momentum of the match turns as Windham controls against Scorpio. Bagwell saves his partner after a SWEETWATER SUPLEX and Scorpio just kicks out after a LARIAT TURNS him inside out. Allen is in and a running forearm sets up a series of dropkick sending his team to the finals. ** ½
The Spoiler def. Val Venis with a BIONIC CLAW. James Beard was the referee for this match that saw Venis do just enough to keep this one interesting but he never was really in a position to go for the win. Venis managed to match mid level offense with Spoiler and made the ropes to escape an early BIONIC CLAW but Spoiler used his power and size to get the victory. * ½
Koko B. Ware def. Shawn Daivari by disqualification for running Ware into the ringside table. The Birdman requested this match after the inclusive finish to his last match with Daivari on Ringside. The fans were rocking as Ware gained the early advantage but things turned ugly when Daivari rammed Ware shoulder first into the ring post. Ware managed to shake off the affects and took back control until the action went back to the floor and Daivari bounced Ware’s face off the ringside table. Dick Woehrle had seen enough and called for the disqualification. Daivari lays out Ware after the match with a WMD much to the displeasure of the fans. *
Mikey Whipwreck def. “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal with a WHIPPER SNAPPER. Whipwreck dominated this one from the open bell and looked to have things wrapped up after hitting his finisher but Chris Candido interfered saving Regal. Referee Bill Alfonso let the action continue and thanks in part to the support of the Maple Leaf faithful, Whipwreck made a comeback and picked up an impressive win hitting his finisher for a second time. **
“Strangler” Ed Lewis def. David Taylor with a STRANGLER’S HEADLOCK. There was a flawless exchange of counters after Morgan Dollar called for the bell before Lewis took control after a collision sent Taylor spilling to the floor where he appeared to strike his head. Taylor could barely return to the ring and a series of STRANGLER’S HEADLOCKS was waiting for him. He survived two and then that was it. ** ½ [this match used expansion VII Charts]
Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano def. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) when Johnny Valiant pinned Morton after a foreign object blast. The Express had the fans on their feet by dominating the action from the open bell leading up to a DOUBLE DROPKICK but the timely distraction by Captain Lou Albano kept the Valiant Brothers in the match. Jimmy Valiant earned heat when he used a foreign object on Morton but the Express battled back and had the match won once again with their tandem finisher but Albano earned his paycheck, sliding “Luscious” Johnny a foreign object which he blasted Morton with for the three count from Morgan Dollar. The Valiant Brothers and Lou Albano go on the attack and with Morton still dazed in the middle of the ring, triple team Gibson including a BIG SPLASH from Albano and a SUPER ELBOW. They then turn their attention to a bloodies Morton leaving him in a heap while the fans fill the ring with trash. *** ½
Johnny Saint def. Henry Irslinger with an elevated surfboard. Saint and Irslinger exchange counters but Saint gained the advantage and downed his opponent with a crotch lift and slam for a near fall from James Beard. Saint immediately moves in a submission and gets the victory. * ½

Sandman def. “Lightning” Rod Fenton in a No-Disqualification No Count-Out Match with a Rolling Rock. Plenty of brawling in this one as you would expect but for the most part the action stayed in the ring with Sandman dishing out the majority of the punishment before getting the three count from Morgan Dollar. * ½

Paul Ellering and Road Warriors get into the face of Morgan Dollar and the official is anything but impressed. Magnum T.A. and Windham are ready to go despite having already competed earlier tonight. Canadian Heavyweight Champion Harley Race def. Vampiro with a VERTICAL SUPLEX. This was a battle of power vs. agility that was closely fought. Race unleashes a series of head butts and then worked the leg with a Deathlock slowing his challenger down. Vampiro came back and used a superkick to set up a NAIL IN THE COFFIN but the three-count from Joey Marella escaped Vampiro.
