Card 014 – Maple Leaf Wrestling – Ringside – Guelph Memorial Gardens, Guelph, Ontario (2021.08.14)

Gordon Solie welcomes us to this week’s ringside and hypes tonight’s episode including the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express returning to the action in our main event!

Hillbilly Jim def. Frank Dalton with a BEAR HUG. The fans were more than happy to clap along and dance with Jim as he made his way to the ring. Morgan Dollar was the referee in charge of the action that was dominated by Jim’s power and size. Dalton managed to escape Jim’s finisher with a series of punches but Jim immediately locked on his BEAR HUG for the submission. DUD.

Barry Windham & Magnum T.A. stop in with Gordon Solie on their way to the ring. Wild Bill White and Bruiser Costa charge the interview area and things quickly get out of hand as both teams brawl around the arena. Security is needed to break things up.

Commissioner Teddy Long is out and calls off the match between the teams of Wild Bill White & Bruiser Costa and Barry Windham & Magnum T.A.. Long tells us that instead the tow teams will meet next week in a Texas Tornado Match!

Val Venis def. Fritz Von Goering with a MONEY SHOT. This one was all Venis from bell to bell but it took three splashes from the top of the corner to keep Von Goering down for the three count from Dick Woehrle. DUD

Rock ‘n’ Roll Express are out to speak with Gordon Solie who tells Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson that Captain Lou Albano has accepted their challenge and it will Rock ‘n’ Roll Express against The Valiant Brothers on August 22nd at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa. The Express are fired up and tells the fans in Oshawa to get ready.

Chris Candido & “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal def. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) when Regal pinned Gibson after a Russian Leg sweep. James Beard was in charge of the match that had some controversial moments including Regal using a chair to assault Gibson on the floor during a brawl. Candido & Regal actually controlled long stretches of this encounter and picked up the victory as the struggles of the Express continue having just one win in six matches. **

Candido & Regal grab Solie for some post match gloating but they are interrupted by Mikey Whipwreck and Koko B. Ware. We go off the air with another wild melee!

It's been a rocky road for the Rn'R Express... Not much momentum heading into their big match against the Valiant Bros.

Really excited for the upcoming Tornado tag match... Bruiser & Wild Bill all the way! HA!

Harley Race over Ed Lewis at MLG was great as was the Road Warriors winning the tag titles from Barry Windham & Magnum T.A.

I am in support of the Rock n' Roll Express challenging the Valiant Brothers but man it was tough to see Morton & Gibson subsequently lose to Chris Candido & Steve Regal. The action in the tag team division, with Bruiser Costa & Wild Bill White being a highlight for me, is on fire in MLW.

The struggles of the Rock 'n' Roll Express have really been a shock. I figured they would have been able to been one of the top teams in my federation and instead they are literally now the jobbers of the tag team division. Thanks for the feedback TTX , Pariah and cruefan68 !

Card 015 – Maple Leaf Wrestling – Ringside – Guelph Memorial Gardens, Guelph, Ontario (2021.08.21)

Henry Irslinger def. Shawn Daivari with a ARMLOCK AND LEG TRIP. Despite the heat for Daivari this one remains basically a scientific battle and Irslinger looks very impressive and gets the victory when he uses his double finishers in concession several times leading to the three count from Dick Woehrle. * ½

Vamprio stops in with Gordon Solie not only to talk about his number one contender’s match with Spoiler tonight but also his upcoming battle with Sandman in Oshawa tomorrow night!

Al Snow w/Head def. “Lightning” Rod Fenton with arm strap and head butts. This one lasted just a few minutes with Snow countering a face smother and taking over the contest with a seated spinebuster and SNOW PLOW before getting a rather slow three count from referee Bill Alfonso. DUD.

Shane Douglas w/Francine comes out to speak with Gordon Solie and issues a challenge to Al Snow who accepts and the two will square off tomorrow night in Oshawa in Douglas’s Maple Leaf Wrestling debut.

Vampiro def. The Spoiler with NAIL IN THE COFFIN. Vampiro is fired up from his promo earlier tonight and Spoiler had zero offense once James Beard called for the bell. Spoiler survived one NAIL IN THE COFFIN but a second one moments later ended it. DUD.

Canadian Heavyweight Champion Harley Race is out and speaks to Gordon Solie about the chances Vampiro has to beating him, which is none, but Vampiro has other ideas about his chances, pushes past Solie and gets into an shoving match with the champion as security arrives to break things up.

In a Texas Tornado Match, Barry Windham & Magnum T.A. def. Bruiser Costa & Wild Bill White when Allen pinned White with a BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX. This was an epic beat down from start to finish with White rendered a bloody mess before Dick Woehrle made the three count to end it. **

Bruiser Costa grabs Gordon Solie after the match and tells Solie that he does not need White as his partner and tells the fans they won’t be happy tomorrow night in Oshawa when he makes Barry Windham submit to his claw hold!

Card 016 – Maple Leaf Wrestling – House Show – Civic Auditorium, Oshawa, Ontario (2021.08.22)

Rock Riddle def. Jake “The Milkman” Milliman with a figure four cobra sleeper. Morgan Dollar is the referee for the opening bout of the evening and the Milkman had the fans roaring by gaining the early advantage. A falling head butt earned a two count and a SECOND ROPE HEAD BUTT was on target but Riddle managed to kick out at the last second. Things turned sour for the Milkman at ringside and Riddle was able to finally get the advantage and quickly earned the submission. **

Shane Douglas w/Francine def. Al Snow w/Head with a PITTSBURGH PLUNGE. Referee Bill Alfonso is more than familiar with the competitors and seems less than thrilled to see Francine in the ring. Despite the official’s attitude, this one is all Douglas who mixes violence during action on the floor with science in the ring including a series of rolling suplexes before crushing Snow into the match for the finish. * ½

Barry Windham def. Bruiser Costa with a BLACKJACK CLAW. Bill Alfonso draws back to back assignments. Windham destroyed Costa from bell to bell countering everything that Costa could think to try. Costa did show some toughness kicking out after a LARIAT and then making the ropes to escape a BLACKJACK CLAW but Windham had too many weapons and picked up the win making Costa submit to his own finisher! * ½

Chris Candido & “Mr. Electricity” Steve Regal def. Koko B. Ware & Mikey Whipwreck. A third appearance in the row by Bill Alfonso and the fans go for dancing with Ware to feeling uneasy about the officiating. There concerns are confirmed when Ware is bloodied during a brawl on the floor and Whipwreck is essential left in a handicap match against Candido and Regal. It does not go well for the fan favourite who battles to he has nothing left and is pinned by Candido. **

Vampiro def Sandman by disqualification when Sandman used a chair during a brawl on the floor. Dick Woehrle was in charge of the action which stayed between the ropes for some time with both competitors have time in control of the match. Vampiro began to press the advantage but Sandman dragged the bout to the floor and Vampiro tasted the ring post. Sandman nailed his bloodied opponent with the WHITE RUSSIAN LEGSWEEP but could not get the three count. The action spilled out to ringside several more times until Woehrle had seen enough and called for the bell. ***

Valiant Brothers (“Handsome” Jimmy Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) w/Captain Lou Albano def. Rock ‘n’ Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) with a SUPER ELBOW to Morton. The Valiant Brothers showed no rust after their time off and cut of Gibson immediately and only a timely save from Morton kept James Beard from making the three count after a SUPER ELBOW. Morton was able to get into the ring and the momentum switched until Morton was flung into the ring post by Johnny Valiant. Morton was a bloody mess within minutes. Gibson saved his partner after a SUPER ELBOW but the Valiant Brothers kept coming and took this one in violent fashion. *** ½.

Gonna need some kinda street fight to settle things between Sandman and Vampiro, I'm afraid... Not the kinda win I was hoping to see before heading into his title match with Race either... Another fun show!
