I love Carter’s original COTG art, but you know...I didn’t care for his legends art. Too “sketchy” and way too many lines. Strait...he did good work in the initial sets, but man, he dropped off badly in the later sets. ... There's a whole lot of cross hatching going on in the Carter legends art, but I feel like he could have really worked with Mil with the mask and dynamic look. Sonny relied on seriously heavy shadows. The art on all of it looks kind of muddy, which is why I wonder if there was a problem in production. It was the early 00s, tech wasn't what it is today, and they were probably working with scans instead of original art, so that could have been a slight factor. We really had no input on the artwork in those early sets. I'm pretty sure Tom picked the reference photos and assigned them to the artists. I know one of the artists used TDalton's Angelo Mosca picture for his card. I don't think Tim got his picture back, though! That is the earliest I recall us being involved with the artwork.

Nice walk through on perspectives of the cards...although, one question....how did u guys sign Mil Mascaras and the Japanese guys? You'd have to ask Tom about that one. No clue.

I finished listening to this episode tonight after watching Double or Nothing and while posting LOW and COTG fed results. Legends Rematch was a very special set for me because it was seeing a news announcement for that set which brought me back to playing Filsinger Games (I remember that was in 2003 and the 24 black and white card LOW intro set was also released earlier that year.) During my fed's black and white card days, from Legends Rematch, the Midnight Express were arguably my most dominant tag team and I believe Mil Mascaras was my final champion before that fed and its history got reincarnated into my current LOW color card fed. I am hoping you will do a similar episode for the next set Legends Hardcore that was released the following year. I'm very glad Rematch got you back into the game, Vegas! You've become a great friend and are a huge asset to this community. Not to worry, we'll review all of the sets, both LOW and COTG, over the course of the podcast. Might take us a few years, but we're not planning on stopping!

Freakin' Sonny Strait! Mailed him my autographed Mosca 8x10 because he didn't want to use the scanned version. Think that was his last set and I never got the photo back.

Was he the guy who got caught tracing?

I remember seeing news about Legends Rematch (it was 18 years ago but I think it might have been from the website through an Internet search about something regarding wrestling?) that alerted me to the fact that Filsinger Games was now doing sets for legendary wrestlers and that brought me back.

Just wanted to stop in and say I love that Mascaras/Destroyer match in the main post. It was the match that made me realize that a lot of what was said about Mil as a worker (and a lot of it was probably influenced by Foley crying about Mil not wanting to make him look good) was total nonsense and that he was one of the absolute best of that era, or any other for that matter! I've always liked his legends artwork but will echo the Emperor in that I wish Chuck Carter got a chance to do that art instead of Sonny Strait. Freakin' Sonny Strait! Mailed him my autographed Mosca 8x10 because he didn't want to use the scanned version. Think that was his last set and I never got the photo back. I remember thinking the New Age outlaws looked like an ink blot test I really didn't like any of the art for International. I felt Liger and Tiger Mask looked like ink blot tests too.

That’s awesome that Rematch brought you back, Vegas. Given so many of your contributions, that set had a great impact on the game.
I remember being so pumped to see the Midnight Express were getting cards. I feel like that set was right when I discovered the old boards. I think there was some controversy on the boards at the time over Bob Orton’s power rating.
