The dump we booked our rooms obviously overbooked (will be watching credit card closely)... and went on a frantic search for a hotel. Found one a little out of the way and looking forward to tonight .... I'm at the lovely Econolodge where I was told the elevator sticks between fourth and fifth floor "so just take it to four and use the stairs the rest of the way". I decided to walk all the way, thanks. This place looks like 1985. That is where it was at…it looks like it is held together with duck tape and bubblegum.

Waterloo, I am in you. The Emperor can't check into the hotel yet, but I see a lovely place called Risque's Gentlemen Club. Maybe it is fit for an Emperor...... I noticed the Gentlemen's club next to the hall of fame when looking at the Google Streetview and got a chuckle. Chad told me that when they had the flood there and were trying to rescue artifacts from being damaged that a number of the ladies that worked there came by to help out. Only in Waterloo!

Found one a little out of the way and looking forward to tonight FYI for future reference if you have a reservation that is guaranteed on a credit card and they do not have a room for you they have to do what is called a Walk. That means they find a room of equal or better quality near by, they pay for your first night (more if they can not fit you in after the 1st night) and often one LD phone call to let people know you moved but that might have changed in modern times. By guaranteeing the room it is a two way contract. You are saying that if you do not cancel by time assigned you will pay for the room even if you do not come and use it. They are saying they will hold a room for you and if they do not they will pay for one elsewhere.

Years ago when I was working in ATL something similar happened and I got trapped in the stairwell during a 100 degree day. Whole life began flashing before my eyes. So good luck! What? Were they some sort of timed locks on the door? So here is the full story: August 2013. I'm in Atlanta for work for a couple of weeks. 100 degree days. So first and second day we all meet up on the 10th floor, but on the third day we were to meet on the 9th floor. By habit, I hit the 10th floor button in the elevator. I'll just get off on the 10th floor and then take the stairs down to the 9th floor. No big deal. That's when things went South. Get off on the 10th floor, go into the stairwell, down to the 9th floor, go to open the door and it's locked. Shoot. Guess I'll try the 8th floor...locked. Seventh floor, locked. Sixth floor, locked. You see where this is going. By now I'm pouring sweat like I have pneumonia thanks to paranoia from being trapped in a 100 degree stairwell, and wondering how the heck I'm going to have to explain pulling the fire alarm in this building full of thousands of people. Total nightmare. I get all the way down to the first floor and the door OPENS! Thank God. But by now it looks like I jumped in a pool. Rode the elevator all the way back up to the 9th floor, POURING sweat from every pore in my body. Everyone backing away from me. Super humiliating. One of the worst mornings of my life and it’s given me a fear of being trapped in stairwells ever since.

Yeah I'm not fond of stairwells either for fear of locked doors.
So, got home a short time ago. Was a fun weekend even with the hiccups for the events on Saturday. I met Rock Riddle on an elevator without knowing who he was at that point but realized it later. Very nice man. If you ever attend and he's there, be sure to talk to him.
Thursday was fairly quiet after Chad and Tim picked Zeke and myself up mostly killing time till I could check in at 3. Good timing though as I went a few minutes early and beat the crowd rushing to check in.
The pizza party was like any party you've been. Met Emperor Norton (great guy), and saw TK and Markus for the first time in years. Good to catch up with them. Later saw Cory, EpicDave, Will, Brian Vanderwal (long time since we had last seen each other though not quite as long as Cory...who confirmed I had only met once before) and Iowaoaks.
Friday was the best of the three days......the first show was fun if a bit sloppy and poor Briar Hale.....lost 3 matches that day. It was a little hard to tell faces vs heels and the crowd did not help but when James Jeffries was there or when Bryce Jordan won the title, that crowd was electric......Jordan's pop for winning was the loudest pop I was a part of in years. The museum was nice but after you had been through a couple times, you had seen everything. Also on Friday, lots of the wrestlers were there and got autographs from Jerry Brisco, the Baron and Ric McCord. Earlier I had picked up Miranda and Heather's autographs. I also picked up a photo of Heather to support her. Also got to say hello to various stars and the best was getting to say hello to Barry and Mike.
Saturday was a bit hiccupy basically all day but it was nice to hear the stories about Don Kernodle who I really wanted to meet but that didn't happen. Slaughter and Brisco could talk your ears off in a good way. Had to kill time to the event.....and then the reception never started, the dinner seating thing went all wrong but the awards ceremony was great.
Picked up two books, Memphis 77 by Mark James and a book about Christine Jarrett by one of her grandsons (Jeff's cousin) Already finished it. It was a really nice read.
I'll never be a regular for it and it's not Galacticon but I really enjoyed myself and am glad I attended.
