I was surprised Eduardo Rodriguez nixed the trade to the Dodgers. I hope what he is saying about he and his family like being in Detroit and he really wants to be on the team going forward. If he can continue to pitch like he has for most of this year over the next few years it makes our future look brighter. However if he opts out of his contract after this year and walks I will despise the man. I am hoping for the best and giving him the benefit of the doubt. We have him next year and if our young arms can get healthy and improve we will have a really good rotation.
I knew we would probably trade Michael Lorenzen but I am sad to see him go. At least we got a good hitting prospect for him. Hopefully the guy pans out for us.
The big surprise is we did not trade any of our bullpen guys. I can only hope that the offer was too low and we didn't trade to trade. If our pitching staff can stay fairly healthy next year, some of our young hitters keep improving and we add a bit time hitter or two with the money that opens up with Miggy's retirement we could easily contend for the division and maybe even win a series in the playoff as we work to being a WS contender.

It was nice to see him think of his family first; Sometimes winning isn't everything. Like you perhaps he sees a brighter future with the Tigers.

Cabrera has been having a nice summer. At the pace he is going he could end up 17th on all time MLB hits list, passing George Brett. As he stands right now, he is 21st just one hit behind Tony Gwynn and two behind Robin Yount. So, he is close to moving into 19th all time. Sadly, it looks like he will not end his career in the Top 25 of home run hitters. He is sitting at 27th with only one this year. He would need three more to move into a tie at 25th.

Tigers got another no-hitter last night. Oh. Wait. Michael Lorenzen is no longer on our roster. But congrats to him. Right now, the Phillies are happy they traded for him. At least our pitchers TRIED to give us a no-hitter today. Close but no cigar.

Only 7 games out still fans. At this point I just want to fall no further than the third we are and if we can, pass Cleveland for 2nd. We are about 8 games ahead of last year's pace and only a couple behind 21 when it looked like we were improving. So that is decent. Plus, we now sit just 1/2 game behind the Mets and their top payroll lmao.

A crappy loss but Muggy hit another home run. Need a few more from him before he retires.

Cabrera had a four hit game today. Sadly, no HRs. He sits at 17th on the all-time MLB hits list. He is closing in on Adrian Beltre, should pass him, and after that it would be Cal Ripken Jr. That is the last one he has a shot of passing before he retires. He is 80 some hits behind Nap Lajoie who sits at 14th all time. One more home run would put him in a tie with Mel Ott at 25th all-time. Two more home runs would put him in tie for 23rd with Ernie Banks and Eddie Mathews. He is 11th behind for a multiple player tie at 20th. He will not get there. Three home runs are unlikely but would put him in 23rd all by himself.

Tigers have clinched 3rd place in division. They sit half a game behind Cleveland. We finish the season at home with a three game series against them so have a shot at 2nd place. We also sit 2 games ahead of the Mets. So hitting most of the goals I wanted once I knew playoffs were out of reach. Not bad considering how bad things looked at times. I feel if we can stay healthy and send some of the money we save with Muggy retiring on smart FA signings we have a very good chance to win the division next year.
