On Monday MLB history will be made. Danny Jansen will be the first player to play for two teams...in the same game. Basically, he was on one team when a game was suspended to be made up later. He then got traded to the other team and that game is being made up this Monday. One player, one game, two teamsThis was more interesting than I first realized. When the game was suspended he was at bat. So when it resumed Monday he was catching for a pinch hitter for his at bat. The count was 0-1 but had it been 0-2 and the hitter struck out he would be recorded with the strike out for an at bat where he was catching.

The Red Sox are fourth in the WC race, first team out. We sit 3 games behind them with them coming to town this weekend. We need to go at least 2-1 to cut the lead in half. If we can find a way to sweep them, we would move ahead of them. Fingers crossed. Casey Mize is supposed to come off IL and start Friday. Maybe he pitches a gem that kicks starts our weekend.

Blah what a horrible game. Down 4-0 late I was just hoping we did not get shutout. We come back and tie it and even score a run in the 10th. Unfortunately, we gave up 3 in the top of the 10th, so we still lose. Mize gave us another starter with his return, but he was not good. We need to come back and win the next two.

Well, we did it. We took 2 of 3 from Boston. Now, we have to fly cross country for a day game against San Diego tomorrow. The silver lining is San Diego is also on the road and also has to fly cross country as there are down here in FL. Heck, the Tigers might be in San Diego before San Diego is. Hmm, I wonder what I can do to slow down their return trip. <scratching chin as I think>

We currently are tied with Boston in 4th place in the Wild Card race, 4.5 games behind KC who we play three more times this year in KC. We could have been alone and 3.5 back but we couldn't get any offense on Monday.

Something special happened tonight. Our starting pitcher went 9 innings and got the complete game. First one this season. That Montero might end up being a really good young arm. He has struggled in some games this year but also pitched some gems. If he can build on the good and find what he is doing wrong and avoid it he could be a great #3 pitcher or #4 if Casey Mize ever gets back to his potential.

Worst thing for the Tigers right now is KC is getting hot and Minnesota has cooled down. So, instead of chasing KC for the last Wild Card spot we are chasing Minnesota. KC was better since we still have 3 games with them giving us a chance to make up a lot of ground at once. No more games against Minnesota this year. We sit 3 games behind them with 17 games left in the season. There is a chance, but it is slim.

What a missed opportunity today. With our ace on the mound we could have made up 1/2 game on Minnesota. Instead, we lost 1/2 a game. Worse, is not Skubal has no chance on a 20 win season. This outing and his last were gems and in both cases no win for him. It is Verlander all over again. We sure could have used some of those 11 runs we scored on Tuesday today. Oh well. While still holding out hope for this year I am looking to next year. If we can stay healthy we will have a top 10, maybe top 5 pitching staff and some young hitters that can score some runs. Me might be the most improved team next year and should be in the hunt for a playoff spot. That does not even take into consideration any FA's we might sign.

Our pitching staff had a perfect game thru first 7 innings. A no-hitter thru 8 2/3 innings. All against one of the top teams in baseball this season, Baltimore. I think this team is going to surprise a lot of people next year. Young, really good pitching staff. A bunch of young hitters who should only get better. Still a few players in the farm system to either join the team and help or be used to trade to get vets to help us.
