Yes! I will be listening here shortly. Unimportant Fact: Dr Red Fang is my moniker on 2 other message boards. One of them being a Superstar board.

I bought several of the SUPERSTARS editions, but the goofy name edition really soured me on the product. I mean who the heck is Bluto Cheesecake? Sadly, I no longer own them as they've been lost in my many moves and the sands of time. Though I do weirdly still have a few of the cards, one being Jody Hamilton the Masked Assassin. Here's a question probably mainly for Chad and Tim. Did you guys buy the Von Erichs game that was in the Apter mags around the same time? I never pulled the trigger on that one and have no idea what it was. It kinda looked more like BOARD game rather than a card and dice game.

I've met someone (don't remember who) who purchased it and it sounds like it was more of a board game.

Haven't listened to the podcast yet, but I have some great memories of the SPW game. I only had one set, and it had wrestler cards with no names on them, but it was quite easy to figure out who they were supposed to be. I enjoyed it a great deal, but as soon as I pulled the trigger and purchased COTG, I never looked back (other than a brief nostalgia trip when I discovered a free PC version of SPW a few years ago). I find the FG game system to be vastly superior...

Fun episode. Superstar Pro was my first wrestling game in the mid-'80s, and even though I haven't played it for years, I still have it with me after I've moved a few times over the past 35 years. I remember first seeing ads in the Apter mags, and I chose it over Champions of the Galaxy because one had real wrestlers and one didn't. I cut my teeth on the Avalon Hill Statis-Pro games, so I wanted something similar for wrestling. When I first got it I remember being unimpressed by the newsprint quality rules booklet that left ink on my hands, but that didn't stop me from running a lot of matches.
While listening to the episode, I pulled out my Deluxe Edition box, where I've stored my various sets. I was reminded that SuperSet '87 had 5 female wrestlers (Moolah, Wendi Richter, Leilani Kai, Sherri Martel, and one other) but all of them have a priority rating of 1 (apparently they were only rated to go against the men?). Two other strange cards I noticed are from SuperSet '85: one for "Mister Tea" (with a "Boston Tea Party" finisher) and another for the movie character Rambo (named "Ramdo" on his card).
Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

I picked COTG over Superstar Pro. I liked the futuristic, sci-fi aspect of COTG more. I think I made the right choice.

Really enjoyed this. I came very close to picking that NWA set over COTG.....thankfully Spike just proved too cool not to choose that.
