Rides, foods, games ,music and Great North Wrestling! The Martin County Fair was the place to be Thursday night.....here are the results!!!!

The "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez had his hands full against Bobby Duncum in the opening match in Fairmont! Duncum (as usual) was full of "piss and vinegar" and gave Manny just about all he could handle. This match was entertaining and physical. In the end Fernandez (2 tokens) eventually puts big Duncum (2 tokens) away with a FLYING BURRITO. Time: (8:31).

Big Bill Miller got back on the winning track, stopping DOGS of WAR member Sgt. Craig Pittman. The sarge wasn't an easy victory, in fact he dominated the early portion of this one. Miller used every trick in the book (legal and otherwise) to get the upperhand on Pittman. After a barrage of powerful impact moves, Big Bill uses a JUMPING POWERSLAM to keep Pittman on the canvas for the 3-count. Time: (8:43).

Former World Tag-Team Champs (in a prominent NE promotion) teamed for the first time here in GREAT NORTH WRESTLING, with a successful outing! Dirty Dick Murdoch/Adrian Adonis defeated the tough team of Wilbur Snyder and Cowboy Bob Ellis!! This was a very good matchup, and the crowd loved it! Snyder/Ellis gave no quarter, and took the fight to Adonis/Murdoch right from the opening bell. Wilbur used his scientific wrestling skills to put Adonis into every uncomfortable position he could think of. But Murdoch's constant interfering kept Adonis from submitting. Murdoch and Ellis went toe to toe as well, until Adonis hit him in the back of the head when Murdoch backed Ellis into "their" corner. After some tricky and questionable double-teaming (no DQ) MURDOCH pins Ellis after a SUPLEX/FLYING CLOTHESLINE double-team finisher.
Time: (11:49).

**********INTERMISSION**********

Austin Idol, in preparation for his big World Title Shot Match at GNW DOGS DAYS OF SUMMER '23....heads into it with a big win over Samoa Joe. Joe was his usual tough as nails self, and had Austin reeling early on. Idol gamely fought his way back, and took over for good when Joe stumbled charging into the corner and bangs his shoulder into the ringpost . Seizing the opportunity IDOL went all out on offense. He uses a SHOULDER BREAKER, then a PILEDRIVER and gets the 1,2,3. Time: (10:44).

In another intense melee KING KONG MOSCA defeats The Crusher tonight in Fairmont! Mosca a former GNW Inter-State Champion, was on point and extra nasty! He and The Crusher brutally battled inside and out of the ring with the crowd urging them on! Before it was over both men were covered in CRIMSON! Mosca uses a low-blow (no DQ) and 2 consecutive BIG NASTY ELBOWS to get the win. Time: (9:51).

In his final outing before defending the GNW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, at DOG DAYS OF SUMMER '23, FREDDIE BLASSIE defeated fan favorite BWM Jimmy Valiant in a NON-TITLE matchup. Valiant got under the champ's skin early and Blassie powders to the outside to gather himself, and the crowd verbally gave him the business. Once back in the ring, Blassie got his act together, and after a choke and a rake of the eyes (no DQ), he starts to breakdown his opponent. After softening Jimmy up with some jolting kicks and slams, VALIANT submits to FREDDIE'S agonizing STOMACH CLAW. Time: (13:07).

A great time was had by all in attendance, as GNW made its final stop (before the *PPV* on 8/20) in LaCrosse, Wisconsin!!!!

Brad Armstrong bested DWB Tony Anthony in a highly competitive opening match. Anthony and Brad went back and forth and early on, it looked like a DRAW might be imminent. But after surviving a nasty assault from The Dirty White Boy, Armstrong fires up and charges back getting the PIN using a RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP. Afterwards a disgruntled DWB hits Brad from behind and lays the boots to him before exiting the arena. Time: (8:22).

Dino Bravo looked impressive as he defeated former (2-time) Inter-State Champion Don Muraco tonight in LaCrosse!! Muraco was his usual abrasive self, jawing with the crowd, the ref, and of course Bravo before the bell. After the bell rings Muraco lunges into action pounding Bravo to the mat with massive punches and a thrust to the throat. Muraco stays in control for a good while, but things change after he tosses Bravo out to the floor and spits on him as Dino climbs back on the apron. Dino is incensed and goes off full bore on The Magnificent One, ending Don's night pinning him after an AIRPLANE SPIN!
Time: (10:37).

Big Bill Miller keeps rolling through the competition here in Great North Wrestling by defeating British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith in a relatively easy match. Despite Davey Boy's own physical prowess , BIG BILL ,was just that tonight....TOO BIG for Smith. He shrugs off Davey's attack, and after some softening up MILLER uses a POWERSLAM to get the 1,2,3.
Time: (7:00) (DUD).

**********INTERMISSION**********

THE DOGS OF WAR, were set loose tonight in the LaCrosse Center, as Corp. Kirchner/Ranger Ross took on the team of Al Perez/Chris Colt. It was evident right from the start Kirchner/Ross were the more cohesive unit, as they dominated this one, with only one brief glimmer of resistance from Al Perez/Chris Colt. Colt nearly pins Ross after a clothesline, but the Ranger kicked out at two. After some quick tags and double-teaming ROSS pins COLT after a FLYING CROSSBODY BLOCK, and Kirchner intercepts Al coming in for the pin save. Time: (11:03).

In a classic match Curt Hennig defeats the legendary ANTONINO ROCCA, in a wrestling gem. Hennig showed little respect for Rocca early, and it nearly costs him the match. An enraged Rocca put on a display using Head-scissors and dropkicks, and Henning powders out in complete shock. After gathering himself Curt re-enters the ring and goes to work. Henning and Rocca countered each other nearly move for move. Things turn in Hennig's direction when Rocca attempts a cross-body near the ropes, Curt drops down and pulling down on the top-rope and Antonino flies straight out to the floor! A groggy Rocca barely beats the count back into the ring, where Hennig is waiting, and delivers THE AXE for the victory! Time: (13:08).

***NO DQ, FALLS COUNT ANYWHERE***
This crazy night ends with a carnage-fest between two MONSTERS of the mat....Sgt. Slaughter and KING KONG Mosca! It was total chaos from start to finish,and these two left their DNA (in the form of sweat and blood) all over the arena! Chairs, guardrails,this one even went into the Men's Room!!..Mosca put Sarge through a table......THE DOGS OF WAR leader PILEDRIVES King Kong on the concrete floor! Sarge bent a steel chair over Mosca's head, Mosca retaliated by lambasting Slaughter with the ringside steps, as the crowd squeals with delight. This one ends with SARGE using a SLAUGHTER CANNON, knocking Mosca off the ring apron, and pinning him on the floor!!!

What crazy wild time in Minneapolis!! GNW's biggest show (to date) didn't disappoint the fans in attendance, or the record-setting (for GNW) home audience! 2 titles changed hands and every match was epic!!!....Here are the results from the first half of the card!!!

**DOG COLLAR MATCH**
(Jimmy Valiant vs Kevin Sullivan)
This opening match certainly set the bar high right out of the gate! Sullivan and Valiant beat the hell out of one another, in this bloody, brutal match. Both men used the chain to perfection, and the blood spilled early in this one. In the end however it was SULLIVAN (3 tokens) getting the win, after hanging Valiant (3 tokens) by his neck outside the ring, then dragging him back into the ring, and executing a POWERSLAM
for the PIN. Time: (12:56).

(Andre/The Crusher vs Mosca/Miller)
After 2 previous setbacks in Tag-Team competition ANDRE the GIANT gets the monkey off his massive back. The Giant and his partner DA CRUSHER....took 2 straight falls from the team of Angelo Mosca and Big Bill Miller. Mosca and Miller didn't go down easy, but they did go down!

Hennig battles his way to a title shot by outlasting Muta and Diamond Dallas Page. In a fiercely contested match, all 3 men had ample attempts for victory! DDP nearly had Hennig (DIAMOND CUTTER) but Muta broke up the pin. MUTA had 2 opportunities (1 on each opponent), but couldn't get the win. After a three man slugfest, Hennig tosses Page out to the floor headfirst! Then after a low-blow on Muta....CURT gets the pin via HENNIG PLEX.

The top two Heavyweight contenders (at the time of match signing Aug. 10th ) met in an epic battle for a shot at WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT GOLD! Former 2-Time GNW WORLD Champion Johnny Valentine (ranked #2) vs Former 2-Time GNW INTER-STATE Champion Austin Idol (ranked #1). On the biggest stage in GNW history (so far), these men battled all over US Bank Stadium! Johnny eager, to get another shot at the top, pushed the tempo early hitting Idol hard, and often! Austin (on a tremendous roll of late here in GNW) weathered the onslaught and paid it back in spades!!! A physical back and forth match, going at a torrid pace, in and outside of the ring. During an outside melee Austin gets slammed on the entrance way....catching the guardrails right in his lower back, and VALENTINE starts to work on the weakened Idol. No matter how hard he tried Johnny (3 tokens) just couldn't pin or submit the gritty IDOL (4 fatigue). Valiantly the The Hearthrob battles all the way back! After a fall from the apron, catching his left leg on the stairs, Valentine was ripe for the picking. Idol methodically works the leg of Valentine, who begrudgingly taps out to Idol's LAS VEGAS LEGLOCK!!! Time: (22:25).

(AJ Styles vs (Ch) Barry Windham)
AJ STYLES has arrived! Capping off his meteoric rise since his arrival here in Great North Wrestling, the PHENOMENAL ONE has captured the INTER-STATE gold!! It was a chess-match from start to finish as the champion Barry Windham was truly on his game as well. The ebb and flow of this action-packed match, had the crowd on its feet for its entirety! In the end after avoiding another pin attempt by Windham (SWEETWATER SUPLEX), Styles catches Barry with a PELE KICK, that stuns the big Texan long enough for AJ to get the 3-count!!! Both men shake hands as the crowd goes wild!!! YOUR NEW GNW INTER-STATE CHAMPION AJ STYLES!!! Time: (14:21).

*GNW WORLD TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP*
(The Russians vs (Ch) B&B Destruction Co.)
In a raucous and violent affair, Tag-Team champions Bad News Allen/Brickhouse Brown, aka The B&B Destruction Co. retain the belts, by defeating the Koloffs Ivan/Nikita. The Russians (who lost the belts to B&B in July) couldn't seem to isolate neither Allen or Brown, long enough to get the upperhand. Allen was nasty as he rebuffed all the offensive tactics by The Russians, and rained the punishment down on them! Brickhouse was equally impressive as the champs worked together like a well oiled machine. In the end as Brown and Nikita were duking it out, ALLEN uses his GHETTO BLASTER to pin IVAN! Time: (13:45).

***GNW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP***
***STEEL CAGE MATCH***
The table was set, the steel was lowered around the ring.....the crowd was wired....this one turned out to be a possible GNW MATCH OF THE YEAR CANDIDATE!! Confident GNW WORLD Champion FREDDIE BLASSIE (in his 5th defense) and ED "STRANGLER" LEWIS were ready for war!!! Inside the cage, these two men went at it! The canvas was soon covered in BLOOD and SWEAT....as they used the chain-link confines as their pallet. Both men were content to take their time and make the other suffer! Lewis (3 tokens) used the steel like a cheese-grater, and Blassie's blood sprays out to the first row of fans!!! Blassie bites Lewis's head open, then bounces him off the cage like a pinball! Neither man could see through their crimson masks! Lewis (3 tokens) finally gets the upperhand, when he unties a turnbuckle pad and slingshots Blassie (2 tokens) into it catching him directly in the Adam's Apple! As Blassie hits the canvas rolling around trying to catch his breath, LEWIS pounces!! He uses a prolonged STRANGLER'S HEADLOCK and Blassie goes unconscious!!! THE NEW GREAT NORTH WRESTLING WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION ED "STRANGLER" LEWIS!!! Time: (31:44).

Motor City Maddness was in full swing as Great North Wrestling returns to Detroit! Here are the results from this exciting card....

The enigmatic Chris Colt defeated "The Man Who Laughs" Hugh Morrus in the evening's opening match. It was back and forth, and Colt had a bit of trouble with Hugh's size and strength advantage. But Colt was able to eventually overcome it, taking several shortcuts along the way (avoiding disqualification). Colt (2 fatigue) pins Morrus (1 token) with the aid of his JUMPING ELBOW DROP, plus a timely handful of tights.
Time: (7:44).

It was a clash of veterans in our second contest as Ray Stevens and Hercules Ayala clashed. In a physical match, both men made a good accounting of themselves. Hercules nearly pins "The Crippler" after a running powerslam, but Ray was able to get his foot under the bottom rope. Stevens then mounts a huge offensive comeback, and eventually pins AYALA with his BOMBS AWAY! Time: (8:40).

Two more quality opponents faced each other as "DOUBLE A" ARN ANDERSON tussled with ROCKY JOHNSON. Arn tried to intimidate Mr. Johnson, but Rocky wasn't having it. Johnson used his strength and speed, while Arn relied on his ability to absorb and deliver punishment. This was a tough match, both men were determined. In the end it was ROCKY'S night as he pins Anderson with a textbook FLYING BODY PRESS. Time: (10:51).

**********INTERMISSION**********
The ring was full of GRADE A, "beef" in our first tag-team affair of the evening as YUKON ERIC/MOOSE CHOLAK (aka YUKON GOLD), took on the tough and rugged one-time GNW WORLD TAG-TEAM champions OX BAKER/STAN STASIAK. ....The HEART-STOPPERS! Moose and Eric battled hard, but OX and Stasiak were just too much tonight. After a vicious double-team, Eric was left in a heap on the floor and MOOSE was essentially on his own from that point on. After taking copious amounts of punishment from both HEART-STOPPERS, Stasiak did the honors, getting the PIN on Cholak with his HEART PUNCH. Time: (13:33).

Stan Hansen and Sgt. Slaughter nearly brought down the arena roof during their match! The crowd was into it from start to finish, and it was deafening! Slaughter dropped Hansen on 2 different occasions (Slaughter Cannon/Piledriver) but the "Bad Man from Borger" managed to kick out both times. A frustrated SARGE tosses Stan out to the floor, and they proceeded to bash each other's brains in as the crowd screamed for more!!! Hansen introduced Slaughter to the ringpost...1,2,3 times and The Dogs of War leader was busted open. Stan tosses Slaughter back into the ring before the count-out was able to be completed by the referee. Once back in the ring HANSEN uses 2 decapitating LARIATS and pins THE SARGE.
Time: (14:21).

*GNW WORLD TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP*
Three evenings prior, The Rock-n-Roll Express earned a shot at the World Tag-Team Champs, by winning the big 4 team Last Man Standing event at GNW DOG DAYS OF SUMMER '23. Well tonight was the night! Morton/Gibson must've still been feeling the effects of that match, because they were crushed by the TAG-TEAM CHAMPIONS Bad News Allen/Brickhouse Brown tonight in Detroit. Ricky and Robert's offense was not in sync, and The B&B Destruction Co. was taking care of business and business was GOOD. Quick tags and devastating impact moves, were delivered by both Allen and Brown. The champs revved it up early and never slowed down. After a brief comeback attempt from Rock-n-Roll, Allen stops Ricky's pin-save attempt (2nd) as BRICKHOUSE uses a SWINGING NECKBREAKER to put Gibson to the mat for the 1,2,3!!! Time: (13:07).

After a 2-Day postponement (Due to severe weather), Sioux Falls, SD witnessed an epic night of GREAT NORTH WRESTLING action!!

DOGS OF WAR member Corp. Kirchner gets his first singles victory as he pinned Stan Stasiak in the evening's opener. Stasiak (2 tokens) looked impressive early on, but Kirchner was resilient, and gets the win. The Corporal (1token) evades Stasiak's HEART PUNCH, then pins Stan via BOMBS AWAY. Time: (8:56).

Tiger Conway Jr., was on the losing side of the ledger, as Adrian Adonis soundly defeats him the the packed Denny Sanford Premier Center! Tiger was elusive and effective, until he was slowed after an outside battle with Adonis. Once back in the ring Adrian punished his young opponent, before using a DDT to get the 1,2,3. Time: (9:41).

In our first tag-team matchup, The Flying Redheads took on The Big Boss Man/The Trooper, better known as HARD TIME. This was your classic speed/agility vs brawn/brutality match. After absorbing a fair amount of the latter, Bastien/Lyons fought their way to victory! After Lyons delivered some RAPID FIRE DROPKICKS, Bastien comes in on the tag and pins THE TROOPER. Time: (10:33).

********INTERMISSION********

"Old school" grappling took center-stage after the break as Wilbur Snyder squared off against Lord Alfred Hayes. It started out scientific with Snyder winning that battle, until Hayes decides to cut some corners. AFTER a low-blow (no DQ) the Englishman takes over this match. After delivering a couple of high impact moves, Hayes pins Snyder with a textbook LONDON BRIDGE.Time: (13:22).

The Road Warriors w/Paul Ellering, came in and destroyed the MOONDOGS! Spot and Rex were on the defensive right out of the gate, and powdered out of the ring early. ANIMAL and HAWK chased the 'DOGS back into the ring, and continued dealing out the pain. Animal pins REX after a DOOMSDAY DEVICE!

**GNW INTER-STATE CHAMPIONSHIP**
Newly crowned GNW INTER-STATE CHAMPION AJ Styes was tested in his first title defense against a hungry Curt Hennig. This match was fast-paced and exciting! Both men brought their "A" games and the crowd was into this one from start to finish! Hennig(2 fatigue) was the aggressor in the later stages, but Styles (4 tokens) proved to be too tough to be pinned. A frustrated Hennig tosses Styles out to the floor, where he is DISQUALIFIED for repeatedly slamming AJ on the floor!

They were packed and stacked in the Waukesha West H.S. gymnasium as The Waukesha West Band Boosters welcomed the stars of Great North Wrestling! To help raise funds for the Marching Wolverines upcoming trip to participate in THE ROSE BOWL PARADE in Pasadena CA, on Jan. 1st 2024.....

Bobby Duncum defeated Pepper Gomez in the first match, a real back and forth affair. Gomez nearly pinned the big Texan early with a surprise MEXICAN CRADLE, but Duncum powered out. Things then went south for Gomez as Bobby started to maximize his strength advantage. After several slams and assorted impact moves....Duncum puts Pepper's shoulders to the canvas for good with his patented BULLDOG. Time: (10:10).

Ranger Ross had the crowd firmly behind him and he was on HIGH ALERT in Waukesha! That was bad news for his opponent Col. Debeers.Despite early offensive control, The South African badman couldn't quell Ross's spirited spirited comeback, and is done in by the Ranger's COMBAT KICK! Time: (7:45).

The Magnificent One is triumphant! Don Muraco swats down a quick offensive assault by his opponent Scott Casey, and delivers some Grade "A" pain and agony on the cowboy. After softening up Scott's lower lumbar region, Muraco forces him to submit using a vicious Over the Shoulder Backbreaker!
Time: (9:22).

Tugboat and Chaz Taylor remove the "winless monkey" off their backs by defeating the team of Buff Bagwell and Al Perez! It looked pretty dim early on as Bagwell/Perez pretty much had their way with young Chaz nearly pinning him on numerous occasions. The gritty youngster finally makes the tag.....and in comes a raging TUGBOAT! The elder Taylor cleans house and tosses Perez out onto the floor. Then TUG turns his full attention towards BAGWELL, and makes him pay. After a brutal but clean beating, Tugboat pins Buff after a CARTWHEEL CLOTHESLINE! Time: (10:19).

**********INTERMISSION**********

BARON VON RASCHKE and THUNDERBOLT PATTERSON went at it after the intermission and these 2 veterans of the ring wars did not disappoint the SOLD OUT crowd. In a back and forth barn-burner, which saw 6 pin attempts (3 by each man)! The big German, shrugs off Patterson's double chops and thrusts on his way to victory via THE BRAIN CLAW!
Time: (8:56).

Olympic strongman KEN PATERA was impressive as he defeated THE HUMAN SUPLEX MACHINE....TAZ! Ken twisted and pounded Taz, inside and outside of the ring. Surprisingly Taz couldn't muster much offense in this one. After a brief offensive rally, Patera finishes Taz , even submitting him with a brutal SWINGING FULL-NELSON. Time: (10:42).

**GNW INTER-STATE TITLE SHOT MATCH**
ANTONINO ROCCA will face GNW INTER-STATE CHAMPION AJ Styles next, after he defeated Dick Murdoch here tonight in Waukesha! Murdoch was cantankerous and nasty as usual, and he takes control early on. Rocca absorbs heaps of punishment from Dirty Dick. Rocca was able to kick out from pin attempts more than once, and a frustrated Murdoch tosses Antonino out onto the floor. After a violent skirmish (no DQ),on the outside (ending with Murdoch slamming Rocca on the floor) the fight goes back inside the ring. Somehow Antonino mounts a miraculous comeback, eventually getting the win after a series of dropkicks then applying his ARGENTINE BACKBREAKER! Time: (15:49).
