Legends Tournament V. 12

It is once again the time for my annual legend’s tournament.

For those who have been following along from the beginning, welcome back. For those who are new to the tournament, here is the breakdown.

This is a single elimination 64 competitor tournament. Each match is contested without any stipulations which means a competitor can be eliminated by count-out, draw or disqualification.

The competitors are chosen loosely by the ROHL rankings with a few modifications. First, the top finishers from last year’s event receive the top eight seeds in this year event. That means that tournament winner Jack Brisco gets the top seed. Runner up Adrian Adonis gets the second seed. Dynamite Kid gets the third spot etc etc.

As well, any competitor who lost their first found match in last year’s tournament is barred from competing in this year’s tournament. As example, Bobo Brazil, Bruiser Brody and Nick Bockwinkel are out of the tournament this year. Similarly, any competitor who loses their first round match this year will not be in the 2023 tournament.

2011: Bobo Brazil pinned Killer Kowalski
2012: Nick Bockwinkel submitted Andre The Giant
2013: Road Warrior Hawk defeated Greg Valentine
2014: Antonio Inoki submitted Rikidozan
2015: Antonio Inoki pinned Mil Masacaras to claim back to back victories
2016: In the first non-clean finish tournament final, George Hackenschmidt bested Tommy Rich by DQ
2017: The controversy continued as Randy Savage and Rob Van Dam battled to a double disqualification in the finals and were declared co-winners.
2018: Steve Williams pinned Bruiser Brody
2019: Bobo Brazil pinned Harley Race to claim his second tournament
2020: The Destroyer submitted Stan Hansen
2021: Jack Brisco defeated Adrian Adonis

Dr. Mike Lano will be at ringside for each match to capture the action. The officials in charge will be randomly selected [Dice Roll] from Morgan Dollar, James Beard, Dick Woehrle and Joey Marella.

As always, predictions are always welcome! In fact, Pariah made a bold statement last Spring picking the Great Gama to go all the way this year!  That remains to be seen as the level of competition this year is closer then ever.

And I'm standing by my pick for Gama to take it all, my friend... Though I do expect last year's winner will go deep again, starting with a victory in the opening bout... One of my all-time favorite events of the year!

There were a few strong additions to the game this year which should make things interesting. I'll go with one of them as my early pick - Bob Backlund (assuming he's in). Let's get it on!!

I came across your pick when I was going back through the posts from tournament 11 and thought I would throw it out at the outset. Gama is in this year so we will see how far he can go

Could not agree more about the strength of some of the additions to the game over the last year. Should make for some interesting action along the way. Backlund is one of the competitors I am looking forward to seeing in action as well. But can he beat Vader, Brisco, Thesz etc

Jack Brisco (1) v. Masked Superstar (64)

Superstar has some opinions on how to officiate and shares them with Morgan Dollar before the bell. Dollar is anything but impressed. The fans give it to Superstar! Brisco avoids a double sledge and then catches Superstar with a suplex assortment and a perfect dropkick. Brisco grabs a leg. FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Dollar is more than happy to call for the bell (R6/P6). The defending champion cruises into the second round. Superstar says he never submitted but the decision stands.

I really expected some more out of Superstar but the dice had other ideas.

No surprise whatsoever that Jack B has advanced to the second round... Gonna pick Mr Roop as the winner in the next match... He's done fairly well in my LCW... Fun times!

Nothing better than the Legends Tournament and I loved the recap of the history of the tournament. Cool to see Jack Brisco advance. I'm going with Magnum T.A. in the next match.
