Hey guys!
I just wanted to share some thoughts on running feds. First, I should point out, I'm only 39, so my history of wrestling doesn't go back far. My earliest memories of seeing pro wrestling were Hogan/Sheik. I grew up loving TBS on Saturday night. While my parents were preparing to go out, 6-8 year old me was busy watching WCW in the evening and WWF in the morning and wrestling my couch cushions - always making a comeback of course
I discovered this great game several years ago and short of the PP (which I just purchased 3 years worth today), I own every color card set released.
Having said all of that - I have, at times, PARALYZED myself when trying to play this game. Growing up mainly on WWF/WCW, I only saw/understood having a large stable of wrestlers. Later on I understood the territory system, but didn't know the history. This game and this board has helped that. The wealth of knowledge on here can be...intimidating at times lol.
Getting to my point, I have looked more at how territories were run more than actually playing at times b/c I was always trying to get it "right". I see lots of people asking "how should I" or they need to "restart". ALL of this is TOTALLY FINE, but I want to just post to help some folks like me who can get past trying to be perfect in booking/layout. Forget about it! From what I can gather, many territories really only had guys for a handful of weeks at a time. Most cards were 4-5 matches and I saw several instances where four singles wrestlers would kick-off a show in a tag-team match only to have two of the wrestlers from that match face-off in the main event on the same card.
IF...IF you are trying to run a territory. My advice is that there is NO PERFECT way to do it. Honestly, do what works for you and keeps it fun. I keep my "main/exclusive" roster really small. I started with 16 total guys, but things were getting stale and while there was some cycling out of talent with fresh faces, it still got stale for me. Now, I keep a REALLY SMALL exclusive set of guys and I cycle new guys in/out every couple of shows. I was doing it to just try and see how it felt and I really found freedom in playing the game rather than feeling I needed to follow some sort of template. That works for me, using a template may work for you and that's totally fine, I'm just posting this for the guys like me that feel like they can't get any traction or continue a fed.
I literally select a tag team or two and maybe 4-5 guys to be "exclusive" for 3+ weeks and everyone else is just "coming through town". If it works, I might keep them for another card or another 10 cards. If it doesn't work, they're gone and come back at a later time. I run 2-3 shows a "week" sometimes more. Overall, I keep everything open-ended. And if I try to generate a angle/story, instead of letting one grow organically, and it doesn't work I can just scrap it - cause that's what happens many times in pro wrestling.
Just wanted to post this to help guys who are having issues with continuing a fed or feel like me and think they need to follow some set of rules. At the end of the day make your own rules or no rules. As long as YOU have fun, that's all that matters.
