I have a decent theory based on stuff Tom has talked about regarding Sectarian over the years. He said he originally wanted a Planet of the Apes type character. My guess is that the original plan was for Sectarian to be a sidekick/follower to a leader type ape character that never developed. Tom said he tried his idea again w Mandrill, and was happy w the results. So without any confirmation from the man himself, that’s my best guess. Swarm, I'd say that Tom was displeased with Sectarian almost immediately (one-year) and to compare him to Mandrill (former GWF Galaixan Champion) and that he was happier with the results is like saying water is wet. I always wonder if there are characters he regretted, just based on how quickly they exited or how they quickly fizzled. This one, based on Tom's thoughts in his book, is pretty clear. Just really interesting. That’s really interesting and would be a great question for Tom would love to hear the answers

I always thought he sounded like the winner of the Kentucky Derby. If any of you know Martin in person can you please kick him in the dick next time you see him, thanks.

30 years ago....how often are we going to remember what we were thinking at that time?
Most attention Sectarian has had in years though.

I mean he wrote in the Dark Menance that after the fact he hated the character, hence the quick write-off, and Stalker coming into replace him. Which, by the way, anyone ever wonder why Stalker didn't have a heel turn, or Terak a heel turn? I mean Stalker should have been angling for top billing on that team, he was so significantly better than Terak. Either he should have turned or the other way around. I mean I know I turned Terak on him in my original play through and had him reform a team with Cannibal.

He must not have cared much more Stalker since he didn't last much longer than Sectarian. Yet Creeper soldiered on for years.

I think by that point both he and Mutant filled that "lower card" level to give some variety with others (Ursa Major, Pollux, etc.) began to improve. Terak's team just felt like white meat baby faces, and I think turning Terak or Stalker heel might have actually spiced things up and led Stalker to hang around for a while longer. I mean he was there for what, until like 2100 or so, right? Five years, that's a pretty good run for a white meat babyface who was replaced by Wildcat, Karah, and Gila.

Mark did run a Terak turn in the CPC.
Stalker was an attempt to...uh...darken the meat of the Savage Kingdom? Remember, he debuted by crashing the Renegades' press conference and attacking them. It was an interesting attempt to change the dynamic of the team up a bit. In that sense, I think he was more interesting as a babyface as opposed to a generic heel. And having a *third* friend turn on Terak after Vanity and Renegade both did it would kind of make Terak look like a chump. Or a bigger chump than he already was.

Then what if Terak turned realizing that he could never be as good as Stalker, and joined up with the Renegades?

With the opponents and names changed that was essentially the impetus behind his CPC turn. It was a very meta storyline by COTG standards. (And this happened pretty much at the height or maybe just past of TASK Force-mania...who remembers the TASK Force from the old Guestbook days?)
