I have to say, the color pics are absolutely fabulous. But, and I told Osk about this, they need to remove the box around the drawing (the pre-2107 cards) on the cards (esp on the Invasion II cards). I just think it takes away from it

I see that arguement...for sure.
But, I definitely see keeping the original card in tact...just coloring it. And, Jeff Corbett has done some interesting things with those borders on the old cards.
And, it's funny because Larry and I both agree that 2089 is our favorite colored set - and that's the one with those big thick borders. Go figure.
Anyone else have an opinion on the boxes?

From what I've seen, I like the boxes enough on the original set when the background outside the box has been lightened/blurred. I don't care for it on the Wolf example in the "How to Play" section because it isn't lighter. The lighter background on the outside makes whats in the box pop. Haven't seen the colored 2089's yet.

I did notice that as well (the lightened and blurred). I do like that. I just think it's those 2089 cards with that huge line around it...kinda takes away from the background.

I think it does detract from the colored background somewhat, but its not really a big deal. I don't think the original art is so 'sacred' that an essentially minor change of removing the border would have been a problem. Although, that's coming from someone who thinks the majority of Carter's mistake-riddled work borders on bush league, he designs awful wrestling attire and his overall character style is, at best, silly and unappealing. Did I mention I would have paid extra to see Banks or Werner redo all Carter's work? So I might have a slight negative bias in that area. It would actually be fine if it wasn't for those new colored backgrounds everyone gets (which is cool, mind you). I noticed it very first thing. In the end, doesn't matter much though.

you're not alone GBB, I liked the boxes around them. I especially like it when the break the border with the character, making him pop out a bit more at you.

Yeah I could see if you could get a high quality scan of the original cards and remove the borders and size up the character you could make them look full size.
But I really think there's a lot to be said for respecting the source material.
