I ordered the game, some expansions and special editions right after Christmas, so I've launched the DCWF with the first card being a supershow from the FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Fla. to crown its champions. The card featured an 8-team tournament for the Tag Titles, a 4-man tournament for the TV Championship and a pair of 20-man Battle Royals to determine the combatants for the night's main event to determine the inaugural World Champion. To the action ...
Tag-Team Tournament Opening Round
The Brisco Brothers defeated The Dream Team (Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake with "Luscious" Johnny Valiant) when Beefcake tapped out to Jerry's figure-four leglock following a double tackle with Jack.
Tony Garea & Larry Zbyszko stopped Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito (with Captain Lou Albano) after Zbyszko hit a facelock sunset flip on Fuji.
The British Bulldogs (Davey Boy Smith & Dynamite Kid) made short work of The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff with the end coming when Dynamite superplexed Volkoff.
The Road Warriors (with Paul Ellering) beat The Long Riders ("Wild" Bill Irwin & Scott "Hog" Irwin) after Animal power slammed Bill.
TV Championship Semifinals
Shane Douglas (with Francine) squashed Koko B. Ware with the Pittsburgh Plunge.
In the match of the night, Kurt Angle withstood Bob Backlund's (with Arnold Skaaland) early domination and turned the tide with a series of suplexes, before finally getting the 3-count after an Olympic Slam.
Battle Royal #1
Olympic strongman Mark Henry overpowered the competition, single-handedly eliminating the last five combatants (including none-to-pleased stablemate D'Lo Brown when S.D. Jones ducked a running lariat attempt) to claim the first spot in the World Championship main event. The entrants in order of elimination (with their elimination totals in parentheses): Tully Blanchard, Bob Roop, Hartford Love, Sam Houston, Johnny Rodz, Pat Patterson, Mr. Hughes (2), "Macho Man" Randy Savage, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan (1), Val Venis (1), "Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig, Barry Windham (3), Rob Van Dam, Harley Race (3), Gorilla Monsoon (3), D'Lo Brown, Reginald Love (1), S.D. Jones, Hillbilly Jim, Mark Henry (5)
Tag-Team Tournament Semifinals
The British Bulldogs took down The Brisco Brothers when the Dynamite Kid hit a cobra-clutch suplex on Jerry.
In a shocker, Tony Garea & Larry Zbyszko eliminated The Road Warriors when Animal got caught in Garea's abdominal stretch. The Legion of Doom took out their frustrations post match in a wild brawl that left the raucous crowd stunned and the victors in a heap in the middle of the ring.
Battle Royal #2
After many of the favorites were eliminated in the early going, Adrian Adonis outsmarted "Rowdy" Roddy Piper and Cowboy Bob Orton, Jr. to earn his entry into the World Championship main event. Adonis and Orton shared top honors with four eliminations apiece. The entrants in order of elimination (with their elimination totals in parentheses): Big John Studd, Sgt. Slaughter, Ivan Koloff, Bobo Brazil (1), The Magnificent Muraco, George "The Animal" Steele, Sandman, Bruiser Brody, Blackjack Mulligan, King Kong Bundy (2), Big Van Vader (2), Antonio Inoki (1), "Boogie Woogie Man" Jimmy Valiant, Don Kernodle, Al Snow, Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka (3), "The Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase (1), Cowboy Bob Orton, Jr. (4), "Rowdy" Roddy Piper (1), Adrian Adonis (4)
TV Title Championship Match
"The Franchise" Shane Douglas claimed the belt when he put away Kurt Angle with a belly-to-belly suplex.
Tag-Team Championship Match
In an anti-climactic tourney finale, The British Bulldogs were victorious over Tony Garea & Larry Zbyszko after a double head butt knocked out Garea.
World Championship Match
Adrian Adonis (with Bobby "The Brain" Heenan) claimed the DCWF World Championship when he stopped Mark Henry (with Ivory) via a flying elbow drop after weakening the big man with Goodnight Irene. Ivory was able to get him to break the sleeper earlier in the match, but Adonis and the Brain chased her back up the ramp as D'Lo Brown's conspicuous absence was definitely a factor.
