while it is still uncertain whether UNLV will end up in this new PAC-12, it has definitely been a tumultuous week for them as today their starting QB left the program

That story is a crazy one. NIL is really changing the game.

UNLV is saying they are staying in Mountain West. Today. Who knows in a day or two.

College football is dumb. I felt the same way for most of my life as it just seemed so stupid that college football for a long time simply voted on their champion and then when when they initially started the CFP it still left our teams like my school UNLV from even having a chance to participate even if they went undefeated. So I felt like what is the point and it was hard for me to feel enthusiastic about college football. But now the new expanded CFP format allocates a spot for a school like UNLV (who ironically is now 4-0 for the first time since 1976) so there is at least a chance unlike before when there was no chance at all.

regarding the PAC-12, it has been a tumultuous week and I admit I was disappointed that UNLV turned down a membership offer even though I know they received a great deal from the Mountain West (of which they are a founding member) to remain and be a flagstaff program for the conference. I would have loved to see both my schools UNLV and Washington State play in the same conference and I would have returned to Pullman (not been there since late 1990s) for UNLV vs Washington State games.
Gonzaga in basketball however has proven you don't need to be in a top 5 conference to be competitive on an annual basis and both UNLV's football and basketball programs have been doing good recently.
I was originally supposed to go to yesterday's game at Allegiant between Fresno State and UNLV in which Fresno State was initially favored at the sportsbook after UNLV lost their QB Matthew Sluka in a NIL dispute. But at the end of UNLV's 59-12 victory yesterday the crowd was reportedly chanting "Who needs Sluka?"
After watching the Raiders get embarrassed at home last week against the Panthers, it is good to see somebody here is winning games at Allegiant (the Raiders had to agree to allow UNLV to use Allegiant too in order for the state of Nevada to agree to pay for the stadium's construction.)

Well Gonzaga has joined so they just need one football school and the Pac-12 lives again.
