Gone With The Wind
I finally got around to seeing this epic and I got to experience it on a big screen at the theater. Putting the racism and misogynist overtones aside it was a really good movie. I found it interesting that one of the three famous lines came right before intermission and the other two near the end of the movie. Some of the characters were written a bit confusing, or maybe I missed why they seemed to act one way and then another, but over all very well done. Scarlett and Rhett were of course the focal point but I found Melanie Hamilton to be a large character and important to show the dark side of Scarlett. Plenty of humor and drama in the movie through out. I can see why the movie did good in its initial release, especially in the south. The movie is still important for showing both the ignorance and evil of slavery, although it could have been more realistic in the portrayal of that, and also the ego and blindness that leads a nation into the ugliness of war with all of its horrible aftermath.

Today is the day I learned there is a Kraven the Hunter film coming out this year. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who played Kick-Ass and also Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in the Ultron which I did not know until today, will play Kraven. I read that he said "his take" on the character and was instantly out. I do not like when actors want to put their spin on an established character UNLESS it is like the umpteenth production involving the character. Like if someone was to do a new Romeo & Juliette or another King Arthur then maybe they can spin it different. But for a first time? No, just no. Stick to the character as he has been done. I mean, there is a reason you are bringing the character to TV or movies. The character is popular and has a built in audience. Why mess with that?

I need to see the last one before the new one. They look good but nothing I have to see.

This weekend on Saturday and Sunday I will be mostly at The Palms for TNA, so tonight I might go see Abigail at the theater at the Suncaost.

I saw Godzilla x Kong The New Empire last night. I liked it. Plenty of action. A couple new monsters.

I did not go to the movie tonight, I was exhausted at the end of the work week and fell asleep for about an hour so instead I stayed home and watched Dune Part Two on streaming, Next week is a 3-day weekend at work so I will probably see Abagail then.

I went to the drive-in again last night and possibly saw the best double feature I have ever seen. I almost did not go since I had been to Sea World and Disney Springs already in the day and was a bit tired. That plus the fact the same movies are showing next week and there was a chance of rain near the end of the second movie, but I decided not to risk something coming up next week that would keep me from seeing these movies and I am so glad I did that.
Abigail
I kind of wish they did not give away the "twist" in the trailers as it would have been a more WTF moment but that is fine. The trailer had me hyped for this movie and it delivered. Action packed, horror and humor in a nice mix. The young actress that plays the lead did a really good job. If she decided to stick with acting, she might be very good as she gets older. The other characters were written decent enough. While not the perfect movie, what movie is, the good outweighed any bad for me. Like a new vampire power, I do not recall seeing before. Maybe it has been done in another vampire movie, but I cannot remember a movie that did it. The only real issues I had is I figured out what was happening really early in the movie. I won't say when or what so as not to give anything away. Beyond that it was an overuse of gore near the end of the movie. Not sure if they were trying to top each scene with the next one or they made up too much fake gore and so had to use it up, but I did not think it was necessary. That is a small issue, however. So, yea, if you liked the trailer and/or like a good popcorn movie this is it. Good stuff.
Monkey Man
It has been described as India John Wick and that is spot on. The first John Wick too. The one that was AWESOME as opposed to the good but not nearly as good as the OG sequels. It has a story line as the protagonist has reasons to do what he does both on an individual personal level and a larger society level. For me part of the fun is while there is gun play a lot of the action is more hand to hand. It was a wild and crazy ride with a good story at the heart of it all. There are subtitles at the start and during different parts of the movie but most of it is in accented English. Another enjoyable movie that rides the line between popcorn flix and drama.
An additional note, while unintended of course there is a small, tiny connection between the two movies. It comes in a unique weapon that is used in both movies. Again, won't give it away but if anyone sees both movies and catches it let me know.

I thought the movies got off to a slow start in early 2024 (perhaps partly due to last year's writing and acting strikes?,) but there have been some recent releases I really want to see.
