I went to the drive-in again last night and possibly saw the best double feature I have ever seen. I almost did not go since I had been to Sea World and Disney Springs already in the day and was a bit tired. That plus the fact the same movies are showing next week and there was a chance of rain near the end of the second movie, but I decided not to risk something coming up next week that would keep me from seeing these movies and I am so glad I did that. AbigailI kind of wish they did not give away the "twist" in the trailers as it would have been a more WTF moment but that is fine. The trailer had me hyped for this movie and it delivered. Action packed, horror and humor in a nice mix. The young actress that plays the lead did a really good job. If she decided to stick with acting, she might be very good as she gets older. The other characters were written decent enough. While not the perfect movie, what movie is, the good outweighed any bad for me. Like a new vampire power, I do not recall seeing before. Maybe it has been done in another vampire movie, but I cannot remember a movie that did it. The only real issues I had is I figured out what was happening really early in the movie. I won't say when or what so as not to give anything away. Beyond that it was an overuse of gore near the end of the movie. Not sure if they were trying to top each scene with the next one or they made up too much fake gore and so had to use it up, but I did not think it was necessary. That is a small issue, however. So, yea, if you liked the trailer and/or like a good popcorn movie this is it. Good stuff. Monkey ManIt has been described as India John Wick and that is spot on. The first John Wick too. The one that was AWESOME as opposed to the good but not nearly as good as the OG sequels. It has a story line as the protagonist has reasons to do what he does both on an individual personal level and a larger society level. For me part of the fun is while there is gun play a lot of the action is more hand to hand. It was a wild and crazy ride with a good story at the heart of it all. There are subtitles at the start and during different parts of the movie but most of it is in accented English. Another enjoyable movie that rides the line between popcorn flix and drama. An additional note, while unintended of course there is a small, tiny connection between the two movies. It comes in a unique weapon that is used in both movies. Again, won't give it away but if anyone sees both movies and catches it let me know. I am hoping to see Abigail at some point during my upcoming 3-day weekend this weekend. I thought the movies got off to a slow start in early 2024 (perhaps partly due to last year's writing and acting strikes?,) but there have been some recent releases I really want to see. Yea the strike messed things up. I hear ya about the movies. The new Planet of the Apes, The Fall Guy (not a fan of remakes/reboots but this one looks good and different than the show) and of course Deadpool and Wolverine are on my list to try and see this year.

Yea that should be a fun one too.

A sad not on Abigail I forgot to mention is at the end they had a In Memory of for one of the actors who had passed away. Ironically he died of an accidental drug overdose.

Gone With The WindI finally got around to seeing this epic and I got to experience it on a big screen at the theater. Putting the racism and misogynist overtones aside it was a really good movie. I found it interesting that one of the three famous lines came right before intermission and the other two near the end of the movie. Some of the characters were written a bit confusing, or maybe I missed why they seemed to act one way and then another, but over all very well done. Scarlett and Rhett were of course the focal point but I found Melanie Hamilton to be a large character and important to show the dark side of Scarlett. Plenty of humor and drama in the movie through out. I can see why the movie did good in its initial release, especially in the south. The movie is still important for showing both the ignorance and evil of slavery, although it could have been more realistic in the portrayal of that, and also the ego and blindness that leads a nation into the ugliness of war with all of its horrible aftermath. I need to sit down one day and try re-watching it. The first time I tried was about 20 years ago and I turned it off halfway through as I found it rather boring. Perhaps it would resonate more with me now that I'm a bit older and wiser. Shakespeare In Love was like that for me when I watched it a second time. I still don't think it should have beat Saving Private Ryan and Life Is Beautiful for the Best Picture Oscar but I found it more enjoyable the second time around. Sometimes those re-watches don't change my mind though; The English Patient immediately comes to mind. I found it to be a colossal bore both times I watched it and didn't make it past the one hour mark either time. In the immortal words of Elaine from Seinfeld: "Quit telling your stupid story about the stupid desert and just die already."

I find as I get older, I can appreciate movies that I did not in my youth. I feel the same way about Gladiator. While a good movie I thought Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and even Erin Brockovich were better. It bugged me that some people said CT,HD would not win Best Picture since it won Best Foreign Film. What a crock.

What a crock. That was a strange year for the Oscars. Going in Crouching Tiger should have been considered the favorite since Ang Lee won the Best Director award from the Directors Guild of America; the DGA winner usually goes on to win Best Director at the Oscars and historically at the time Picture and Director normally went to the same film. Of course Steven Soderbergh wound up winning Best Director for Traffic and Gladiator took Picture. I do believe that it being in a foreign language hurt Tiger in the end. A lot of voters probably figured that since they were voting for it in Foreign Language Film they didn't need to vote for it in Best Picture. (Thankfully Parasite managed to win both a few years ago). I agree with you that it's a total crock but it's reflective of the messed up and corrupt way the Academy votes; All one needs to do is check out some of those anonymous Oscar ballots that The Hollywood Reporter and other websites post each year. The one that really burned my biscuits was the actress who said: "I thought Hugo was the best film of the year but it's a kids movie and kids movies shouldn't win Best Picture."😡

Another example is the first LOTR movie. I heard some voters thought that since Return of the King was probably going to win Best Picture in a couple years Fellowship did not deserve to win. That thinking along with the actress you mentioned just shows Best Picture needs a big * by it to show all the reasons a movie might have been the Best but did not win.
