AbigailI kind of wish they did not give away the "twist" in the trailers as it would have been a more WTF moment but that is fine. The trailer had me hyped for this movie and it delivered. Action packed, horror and humor in a nice mix. The young actress that plays the lead did a really good job. If she decided to stick with acting, she might be very good as she gets older. The other characters were written decent enough. While not the perfect movie, what movie is, the good outweighed any bad for me. Like a new vampire power, I do not recall seeing before. Maybe it has been done in another vampire movie, but I cannot remember a movie that did it. The only real issues I had is I figured out what was happening really early in the movie. I won't say when or what so as not to give anything away. Beyond that it was an overuse of gore near the end of the movie. Not sure if they were trying to top each scene with the next one or they made up too much fake gore and so had to use it up, but I did not think it was necessary. That is a small issue, however. So, yea, if you liked the trailer and/or like a good popcorn movie this is it. Good stuff. I just got back from seeing Abigail this afternoon. I liked it and I thankfully did not know about the twist toward the end. A very bloody movie (I saw Melissa Barrera had said they were using blood cannons for the movie,) but that did not bother me. In addition to Barrera who starred in the past two Scream movies, I saw that the directors from the past two Scream movies also directed this movie. Overall, I would give this movie a B+. Now I am getting ready to leave again in about a half hour to go downtown for Prestige tonight.

Tonight I got an advance ticket to see Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes next Wednesday/May 8th.
I am hoping to see Fall Guy sometime this weekend (either Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night) as I think the movie looks good even though I never saw the TV show from the early to mid 1980s.

I was off Monday and Tuesday so on Sunday I looked to see what was playing at the theater down the street from where I live. On Tuesdays they have discount tickets. Either the movies were ones I had seen or did not want to see. I was really looking for Boy Kills World. I came across that movie when checking out the cast from Monkey Man. One actor was in Boy Kills World and when I read the Wiki on it, it seemed a fun movie. I ended up checking the theater on the south side of town that was not as good and had changed names in last few years. They were showing it but I also found a few movies I had not heard of. Partly because they were more low budget, film festival flicks and partly because I am not in touch with pop culture like in the past. I went to see one on Monday and Boy Kills World on Tuesday.
Late Night With the Devil
A mockumentary about a late-night talk show host in the 70's who did a Halloween special including a possessed young teenage girl. The movie is supposed to be part clips from the show and found video of what happened during commercial breaks. A few flashbacks thrown in. While not a great movie it was entertaining none the less. I saw part of the "twist" coming early on but overall, I was a small bit surprised. The movie does a decent job of catching the 70's vibe from talk shows to the Satanic craze of that time. Nothing worth searching out but if you come across it or looking for a horror movie you have not seen yet this would be worth checking out.
A funny side story regarding this movie. I had forgot my phone when I left home so had no idea the time as I sat and waited for this movie. I got there early as unlike the theater near my home this one is old fashioned first come, first served. No reserving your seat. I get in there and I am the only one there and the screen was blank. That should have been a clue something was not right, but I figured maybe they did not do a preshow fancy commercial like most theaters. After a bit some young people showed up and sat up behind me. I know it was getting late and the movie was behind schedule but did not realize how much till I heard one of them mention the time. It was 20 minutes past the start of the movie. I went to go ask an employee what was going on. The lady who sold tickets got on her walkie talkie to find out and I went back. A bit after sitting the lights started to dim and heard a message about using closest exit in an emergency. That was it and lights went back up. Waited a bit and went back out. She said they were working on it and no ETA. When the movie finally started some of the audio was off. I am not sure if an issue with the projector or if that was part of the movie as it was supposed to be old footage and it was the background music. The actor's speech was fine.
Boy Kills World
I discovered this movie due to the cast connection with Monkey Man. This movie was much like that one. A man is out for revenge for the murder of his mother in the past. He trains to take on the people in power. This one had a twist which I had easily figured out part of early on. The other part of it did catch me off guard. It did help make a bit sense of the movie. There were parts that seemed poor writing and just did not make sense early on but with the twist it made those parts make sense. Again, this is not a great movie, but it was a fun watch. Vertigo Entertainment helped with production and while they are not connected with Vertigo comics the movie felt like it came from a comic book. It had some good humor in it, some fine fight scenes and a bit of character development. While using ideas that have been done before they did put their own spin on some.
Before Boy they actually had previews. It was a sad look at Hollywood in a way. Another Bad Boy movie. A reboot of The Crow (It did look decent). The Mad Max universe movie of Furiosa (They must be getting a good deal to film in that desert). Then during a commercial/promo promoting Asian/Pacific Rim/Americans and future projects they mentioned another rebook of The Karate Kid. That one will star Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio. I have no interest in seeing it right now but if they make it where Ralph plays a high school student who gets bullied, and Jackie's character teaches him martial arts, I MIGHT be interested in checking it out.

I saw The Fall Guy tonight.
Altough I think they probably could have cut out about 15 minues or so, it was a good action movie that I enjoyed even though I never saw the TV show from 40 years ago.
I give this movie a B, a decent start to the Summer movie season. I am looking forward to seeing Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes next Wednesday night.

Today is Wild Koala Day. That is cool and all but what about the mild, laid back, chill Koalas. Do they get a day of their own?

I'm sorry but the poster for Furiosa makes it look like a Mad Max/Thor crossover movie lmao EDIT: OMG, I just noticed they even have "Loki" on the right side of the middle of the poster.

That looks AMAZING. I will try and find time to watch the whole thing. I watched the beginning and right off the bat I was whisked back to my childhood in the 70's with the Taster's Choice coffee. Not only was that a big commercial back in the day and one I remember from my preteen days, but it was a staple in our home as my dad is a big coffee drinker. While I never got the taste for it, I LOVE the smell of it brewing. Thanks for sharing.

I knew a lot of people were moving to FL and especially the county I live in but now it is official. Polk county, the one I live in, saw the most people move in of any county in the US in 2023.
