Monday was another fun double feature at the drive-in for $8.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
Another fun Apes movie. It is rumored to be the beginning of a new trilogy and I can see that for sure. This might be my favorite of the reboot. Good story, plenty of action and a few nods to the original movie and series. Ironically the second movie I saw was The Fall Guy as that could have been the nickname for the main ape, Noa. Things are set up for the next movie nicely and we are given some drama between apes and humans. I am looking forward to where they are going. If you are an Apes fan you will enjoy this movie I would think.
The Fall Guy
While this was a decent movie I felt let down a bit. Most of the best parts are in the trailer. Funny thing about the trailer is, they show a scene in there that is in the movie but in the movie it is shown from a different camera shot. Pretty cool seeing is the movie revolves around a movie being made and you see numerous cameras that they use. The movie in the movie is being shot by a first time director and it felt like the actual movie was too. It is a mix of romcom and action. They just have issues IMO swinging from one part to the other sometimes. I have no issues with dialogue but in a couple places it felt clunky as they seemed to go on longer than needed. Also, some scenes the interaction seemed like it was independent of earlier scenes. The movie was also pretty predictable as certain parts are seen coming a mile away. I thought I saw a couple things coming but they did not materialize. Overall a decent movie to watch but nothing to go out of the away to make sure you see. Oh, there is a cute nod to Lee Major, the original Fall Guy, and another roll he is famous for in there and I got a kick out of it.
Some side notes.
Wiki let me down. I checked The Fall Guy listing to see if there was a mid credit or end of credit scene. Those are mostly in Marvel/DC movies but some others do them as well. At the end of the plot write up there was no mention. So when The Fall Guy was over I started my engine, watched some of the credits for the music and behind the scene shots and then I took off. As I am leaving the area I had not changed the radio station and I hear what seems to be a bonus scene. Sure enough as I looked over Wiki later it mentions in the cast area that there is a mid credit scene. I wish I had stayed to see it but not the end of the world either of course.
One preview was for A Quiet Place: Day One. I find it funny that a movie that started off as a smaller budget, stripped down sci-fi/horror movie has turned into a franchise and now has a big budget blow out movie. Also, one scene in the trailer reminds me of a scene from a Tales of the Dark Side (or a TV show like that) that really resonated with me. I wonder if the writer and/or director saw that episode and was inspired by it to make the scene in Day One.
Another preview was for the new Aliens movie. This one takes place between the first and second movies. Nothing special in the trailer but odds I will watch it either at the theater or on DVD because, you know, it's Alien.
