There's probably a few things there but still almost as bad as the Titans move.

Alabama coach Nick Sabin has announced his retirement. I know that is NCAA and not NFL BUT it will affect the coaching hires because it is a safe bet that whoever takes the Alabama job will be someone on a few NFL team's radar.

A bit surprising, but Lanning did immediately pull his name out of the running. www.yahoo.com/sports/look-social-media-reacts-alabama-211636369.html

Not sure if DeBoer was on any NFL teams interview list but now we will probably never know.

Pats have already replaced Belichick. They hired former LB Jerod Mayo to be their coach. I was surprised how quick that happened. My guess is they must have been planning on Bill's exit for a bit so had plan in place. Interesting fact, they go from one of the oldest coaches in the NFL to now the youngest. Mayo is a month younger than Ram's coach Sean McVay.

You have it right. They filed it with the NFL and everything. Therefore they didn't have to do the usual rules.

Well, the Rooney rule would not be in play here I would think.

Rooney Rule doesn't apply if a team has a "coach in waiting" clause in writing. And the spirit of the rule is held up anyway.
My prediction: if the Eagles lose in Tampa, Belichick is coaching in Philly next season.
