I liked having Greg Valentine in the GWF. Him and Mike Fortune feuded with the Code Enforcers for the IP tag straps.
He was also a great challenger for the IP belt.

I do wish Tom could find a truly top, lead babyface that he could stick with. I know he prefers Villains and finds them more interesting but it's still kind of a failing that Alpha Force washed out and Colossus, Endgame, and Shayne all got turned. Nexus is the best pure babyface in the game's history but he was also never a top guy. The most successful top babyface in the game's history was probably Pegasus and even he had to be a Villain first. As far as overarching storylines, I didn't reach the "this is getting to be too much" point until the Black Death. I was okay with a certain amount of alternate universes, and Godsend was such a great character that he made up for any weaknesses of guys like Petarra and Paladin, but the Black Death is kind of where I reached my breaking point with "the literal fate of the universe is contingent on the outcome of wrestling matches" writing. The “fate of the universe” stuff kinda started it for me, but well before the Black Death stuff. It was when Godsend, Valhalla, Malamus enterered The Godsend/Cosmic Wars era shattered my enjoyment of COTG/GWF and it never came back no matter how hard I tried. I could not get into the new stories and the seeing my favorite wrestlers written out left me without a game to enjoy. Maybe someday I will start over again with the color reimagined sets.

Based on some of the comments I am happy that I do not and never really have put too much into canon for my feds. As I have said in the past, it is like two universes for me. The canon which I can read and enjoy the story telling and my universe which is just an off branch of the canon universe. I pick the things I like and discard the ones I do not. It is why I think they do a good job overall as people can always find things they like even among the stuff they do not. For instance, some people did not like Black Death while I loved it. I did not like the whole universe facing dying people and all of that but the more wrestling side of it as it felt like nWo with you did not know who you could trust from year to year. Meanwhile there are things others might like that did not resonate with me. It's all good in the end.

I learned early on that you can never guess what Tom is going to do. That being said, one thing that really bothered me was introducing Sultana as sort of the new Amazonia, and then never really doing anything with her but making her a sort of default manager to several groups. It just seemed she got lost in Black Death and was never used again. She just quietly disappeared.

Sultana (as well as Retribution) suffered from being keyed to one character. When they stopped battling, there was no other development and she got dumped when Tom wanted to put in a new woman.

So much good stuff, great storylines, characters. Considering the amount of time that the game has existed and all the editions it is remarkable that there are so few things I don't like. That being said I really did not like Greg Valentine being part of the GWF roster in late 2100s, early 2110s. Just bringing a real wrestler into the GWF universe did not seem right. At the time I worried it might happen more and more. Thankfully it didn't It's funny you mention this, I never liked Greg Valentine either but for some reason I was okay with Mike Fortune because I never saw him on tv so it was easier to imagine him in the future. Exactly the same with me. Have been using Mike Fortune happily in my fed too

Hmm, let me see...
1. THE GOD FORSAKEN 2084 LORD NEXUS CARD.
2. The Alpha Stone being fake. I haven't made to that point in my history yet, but that will be getting a pivot for sure.
3. aCe had it's audience. A little out there for most of us, but it was advertised as very sci-fi based so I can't hate on it.

It’s very easy to be critical so let me start with praise. For the most part it’s hard for me to go back to the old cards because the game is so much more fluid and faster IMO. Tom did a great job accelerating the pace of matches because even going back to 2115-2118 the matches take a long while.
However I think the GWF is better when the storylines are wrestling based. The Cosmic angle is a well thats been returned to a couple of times and it’s worked about as well as every Invasion angle since the nWo. Invasions are one of those things that are better worked than shot… shoot… u get what im saying. If the home team wins all its feuds what are we doing here? Thats another reason i believed the older sets resonated more. War Games, Sudden Death, MegaTournament were set up like team sports which work better for a shoot environment.
Overall i think this next set is huge. Tom is hinting at it being huge and i hope it is tied to timelines. All these old characters returning while closing off the multiverse is a waste IMO. I hope we find out this set that Titan Power, Krakan, Lord. Nexus, Commander Sam, Exo-King and Killer Queen are from different timelines. With the big reveal that Titan Power is a heel Lord Nexus. This opens the door permanently. Whatever it is I hope it affects the game moving forward and not something thats going to be a short term boost.

aCe was not Tom's writing, so maybe that's why it's never mentioned, but that was the craziest stuff I've seen in the game. Zombies were actually trying to eat you in the ring, but yet the majority of people loved it.... I loved aCe and felt like it was more skirmashes than legit matches in a legit fed. I found it harder to adjust it becoming all Centra entertainment after the fight was over. 😀

I think the way Kris had it with different races having different advantages against each other made it work. When it changed, it was just another federation at that point.
