LOW Kings Road United - Nakajima Sports Center - Sapporo, Japan (Card #833)
1) Jushin Liger defeated Scotty Vortekz:
Record seven-time LOW Junior Heavyweight champion Jushin “Thunder” Liger faced Scotty Vortekz, one-half of the Naptown Dragons, in the opener. Vortekz knew that a win over Liger could propel him to great heights and he kicked this one off with a TKO putting Liger on the defensive. Liger rebounded in aggressive fashion and took the fight to Vortekz. It was a quick exchange between the two that saw Liger come out on top hitting the Rolling Koppo Kick for a snake eyes pin.
2) C.W. Anderson & Dustin Lee defeated The Destroyer & Tiger Mask by Count Out:
An interesting tag team match saw the “Intelligent, Sensational” Destroyer pair up with Tiger Mask to take on C.W. Anderson & “Die Hard” Dustin Lee, the other half of the Naptown Dragons. It is not often that Lee and Scotty Vortekz pair up with a different partner but KRU promoters are known to create interesting pairings for tag team bouts on their cards. This was all action with tons of near falls including Anderson and Lee pairing up for a version of the Double Dragon, a double vertical suplex into a power bomb on The Destroyer. Tiger Mask showed off his great quickness often using the lightning fast and spin kicks to take down both opponents. The Destroyer twice trapped Lee in the Figure Four Leglock going for the submission but Anderson broke it up. A ref bump took place late in the bout as Tiger Mask hit the missile dropkick on Lee. The finish saw Anderson rough up The Destroyer on the outside before delivering a falling armbreaker on the ring apron. The move hurt the shoulder of The Destroyer and he was unable to recover and beat the ten count back into the ring giving Anderson and Lee a hard fought victory.
3) Exotic Adrian Street defeated Giant Baba:
In what could be considered one of the bigger upsets in the history of KRU it was Exotic Adrian Street, accompanied by his valet Miss Linda, coming away with a big win over Shohei “Giant” Baba. Street was very aggressive out of the gate scoring consecutive near falls with a running splash and the Crucifix. He kept on top of Baba not giving the 6”10” giant a chance to recover. Baba finally made a counter and hit the Baba Chop followed by locking on a bearhug. He then managed to connect with his finishing move, the Jumping Neckbreaker Drop, but he was slow in making the cover and Street got his shoulder up before the three count. Timely interference by Miss Linda helped turn things back around for Street and after another running splash he stunned Baba with a Knee Lift and grabbed a handful of tights as he rolled him up to score the pin. The crowd was stunned to see Baba take a rare pinfall loss in Japan and Street celebrated by prancing around ringside and blowing kisses. Baba got a nice ovation from the crowd as he left the ring but it was clear that he was upset over dropping the decision to the flamboyant GWA star.
4) The Mongols defeated Forever Hooligans:
The devastating combination of The Mongols (Bepo & Geeto) took on the rising ROH team of the Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & “Mr. Azucar” Rocky Romero) in what turned into an ugly bout. The Mongols used their size and power to dominate this one most of the way including Bepo hitting Koslov with the chain. Koslov was busted open in a bad way when Geeto hit the Top Rope Kneedrop but Romero made the save. Romero helped turn things around and the Hooligans struck with the double knee battering ram and assisted corner splash. The battered Koslov was unable to get back into it, however, and The Mongols dished out serious punishment on Romero. That led to them hitting the devastating Mongolian Drop on Romero with Geeto covering him for the pin.
5) Randy Savage defeated Road Warrior Animal by DQ:
With Randy “Macho Man” Savage & “King Kong” Bruiser Brody set to face the Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) on the final night of the tour in Tokyo it was only fitting that they meet in singles matches as sort of a preview. This was a real war of attrition between the quick and fierce Savage and the powerhouse known as Road Warrior Animal. Manager “Precious” Paul Ellering was at ringside for Animal and he would play a pivotal role in the outcome of the match. The intense exchanges between Savage and Animal in and out of the ring had the crowd on the edge of their seats. Savage nearly won it after ramming Animal into the ring post and throwing him back inside to deliver the Flying Elbowdrop but Ellering distracted the referee preventing a pin. Animal bounced back and scored successive near falls on Savage with an overhead bodyslam and his trademark Powerslam. Savage would also bounce back hitting the flying axe handle from the top rope to the floor followed up by a knee drop for a two count. The brutal battle ended when Savage once again went up top and hit the Flying Elbowdrop but this time Ellering jumped in and attacked him resulting in the disqualification decision. Savage picked up the technical victory but paid for it afterward as Animal press slammed him over the top rope to the floor!
6) Masked Superstar & Big John Studd defeated Rikidozan & Antonio Inoki:
A big feature match saw Rikidozan & Antonio Inoki do battle with the feared combination of the Masked Superstar & Big John Studd. The early action was dominated by Superstar and Studd as they pounded away on Rikidozan. That included Superstar nearly beating him by submission with the Cobra Hold. Inoki got the hot tag and exploded into action including delivering a bodyslam to the 364-pound Studd and following with a top rope kneedrop. He also managed to tie up Studd with the Cobra Twist. The Superstar turned things back around hitting the Spinning Neckbreaker on Rikidozan for a big nears fall. Rikidozan had a furious battle with Studd on the outside and wound up being busted open. A fired up Inoki tried to reverse the momentum but was caught up top by Studd and picked off with a bodyslam. Studd then lifted Inoki up into the Backbreaker to score a submission victory as the Superstar fended off Rikidozan. It was a huge win for Superstar and Studd who improved their standing in KRU by beating another top ranked team.
7) Road Warrior Hawk defeated Bruiser Brody by DQ:
The other half of the tag team battle in singles competition saw Road Warrior Hawk, accompanied by manager “Precious” Paul Ellering, take on Bruiser Brody. This was expected to be a war and it was from bell to bell. The two men fought furiously in and out of the ring and only one pin cover took place with Brody scoring a two count with a running legdrop. Brody had a dominant stretch at one point nailing Hawk with the piledriver, big boot to the face and twisting vertical suplex. Hawk was able to battle back delivering the gorilla press slam and striking with his own boot to the face. The battle once again went out to the floor where the maniacal Brody was disqualified for striking Hawk with his chain. The two continued battling post-match as LOW officials, along with Animal and Randy Savage, headed to ringside in an attempt to break it up. The officials had a heck of a time breaking the four men apart and sanity finally prevailed when Ellering convinced Hawk and Animal to return to the locker room saving themselves for the tag team match in Tokyo.
8) LOW World tag team titles: Sabu & Rob Van Dam© vs. Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito was a DDQ:
For the second consecutive night on the tour it was a double disqualification that ended things and this time it was the LOW World tag team titles at stake as Sabu & Rob Van Dam defended the belts against Mr. Fuji & Mr. Saito. The champions went in at a slight disadvantage as manager Bill Alfonso was not on the tour and also RVD was suffering from a minor neck injury suffered in his match with Randy Savage in Yokohama. Sabu bit the bullet and worked most of the way but that was what gave Fuji and Saito a decided advantage. The devious duo nearly won the gold when Saito nailed Sabu with the Judo Throw and hit the Saito Suplex for a big near fall with RVD making a last second save. Fuji looked strong in this one including hitting the Kamikaze clothesline and a nice suplex on Sabu for a near fall. RVD was able to mount a good offensive including hitting Fuji with the split legged moonsault and the legdrop across the guard rail. The finish saw Sabu and Saito take it to the floor trading blows back and forth including both men shoving down the referee at one point. RVD and Fuji joined in and soon after the bell sounded with the referee calling for a double disqualification. The decision allowed Sabu & RVD to walk out of Sapporo still champions in their version one defense of the belts.
