Thanks for the comments, Spaceman, and for the booking suggestion - Bob Armstrong vs. Bob Roop will take place on the next SWA card in Lake Charles, LA (Card #845). Next up we got to the midwest for some AWE action...
LOW American Wrestling Enterprise - Mecca Arena - Milwaukee, WI (Card #837)
1) Bill Dundee defeated Chief Omega:
The obnoxious “Mouth of the South” Jimmy Hart with megaphone in hand led “Superstar” Bill Dundee into battle against veteran star Chief Omega of ASW in this opening match. It was a highly competitive bout with both men having nice stretches of offense. Omega was in control late until he and Dundee collided coming out of the corner. Dundee recovered first and went up top coming off with the Superstar Bomb on a stunned Omega to score the pin.
2) Midnight Rockers defeated PG-13:
Two of the more popular tag teams in the AWE collided as the Midnight Rockers (Stan Lane & Marty Jannetty) took on PG-13 (J.C. Ice & Wolfie D). The action in this bout was fast paced from the opening bell and the Rockers struck early scoring a near fall on Ice after a flapjack. PG-13 bounced back and scored a near fall on Jannetty with the Tilt-A-Whirl, a double-team move with Wolfie catching Ice off the ropes with a tilt-a-whirl slam onto the opponent. Wolfie D later scored a near fall on Lane with a sitout power bomb. The Rockers picked up the pace in the home stretch and had both members of PG-13 in serious trouble. Ice showed great resiliency as he was able to survive a back elbow ram by Jannetty for a big near fall. The finish came moments later as Lane avoided a deathjump by Wolfie D for a near fall followed up by hitting the Midnight Lariat for the pin.
3) The Crusher vs. Butcher Vachon was a Draw:
The successful return of The Crusher to the AWE was met with a roadblock as he took on the equally rugged Butcher Vachon who was accompanied by Jimmy Hart. It was a brutal battle from the opening bell with both men trading stiff blows back and forth. The Crusher got the upper hand and went for the submission with the Crusher Nelson but Hart got involved breaking it up. Vachon likewise went for a submission locking on the Hangman but The Crusher was able to fight out of it. Controversy engulfed the action late in the bout after Crusher hit the Crusher Bolo for what looked to be a pin on Vachon. Hart, however, provided another distraction and dropped his megaphone into the ring. Vachon picked it up and hit The Crusher with it out of view of the referee. A subsequent attack led to a near fall for Vachon. The Crusher was able to battle back and the two traded blows until time ran out ending the match in a draw.
4) Yukon Eric defeated King Kong Bundy by DQ:
The popular Yukon Eric out of Fairbanks, AK, had a tall order facing the 446-pound King Kong Bundy who was accompanied by manager Jimmy Hart. Eric didn’t let the size difference intimidate him, though, as he dominated much of the early action. That included striking with the running tackle and Woodsman’s Chop and also using the full nelson for a submission chance. Bundy used his weight to gain control and flattened Eric with the power drop, running powerslam and backbreaker. He was trying to set up for the Avalanche but Eric caught him with a ring shaking bodyslam. He then executed a running tackle and covered Bundy for the pin but Hart got involved. It wound up with Bundy getting the megaphone and hitting Eric with it in full view of the referee resulting in the disqualification decision. Bundy went for the Avalanche post-match but Eric moved out of the way surviving the crushing move. Bundy then alertly rolled out of the ring preventing retaliation by Eric.
5) LOW Junior Heavyweight title: Bryan Danielson© defeated Mikey Whipwreck to retain the title:
The LOW Junior Heavyweight title was on the line as “American Dragon” Bryan Danielson defended the belt against a determined challenger in Mikey Whipwreck. It was not the first time that Whipwreck has challenged for the belt as he previously faced both Tiger Mask and Gorgeous George for the championship. Whipwreck was impressive in the early going as he countered out of a lifting surfboard hitting a tornado DDT. He then caught Danielson with the Frankenmikey and had the champion in some trouble. Danielson fought back hard, though, and trapped Danielson in the LeBell Lock going for the submission. Whipwreck was able to get to the ropes for a break and subsequently survived a Guillotine Choke applied by the champion. The battle picked up in intensity towards the finish which saw Danielson nail a Suicide Dive that knocked Whipwreck into the barrier. Danielson then fired Whipwreck back inside and cradled him to score the pin. It was a successful version one defense of the title for the impressive four-time champion. Both men shook hands post-match to cheers from an appreciative crowd.
6) Valiant Brothers defeated Blue World Order:
The highly anticipated debut of the Blue World Order (Stevie Richards & Blue Meanie) came against the very determined team of the Valiant Brothers (Jimmy “Boogie Woogie Man” Valiant & “Luscious” Johnny Valiant) who had manager Bobby “The Brain” Heenan at ringside. The Valiant Brothers have been upset since losing the LOW World tag team titles and were looking to make an example out of the bWo. It was all bWo early as they got the heat on Jimmy for an extended stretch including Richards scoring a two count with a vertical suplex. Johnny tagged in and took over on the Meanie using a Boston Crab for a submission chance. The Meanie came back and hit the Meaniesault on “Luscious” Johnny for a big near fall. Jimmy tagged back in and roughed up the Meanie using the abdominal stretch and spinning toehold. Richards called for the tag and got it as the bWo began mounting a comeback. Richards hit the Stevie Kick on a bloody Johnny for a big near fall late in the match. Heenan interfered to prevent another pin attempt by the bWo. It was getting desperate for the former champions when Jimmy scored with a Neckbreaker on the Meanie and covered him for the pin. The bWo may have lost the match but they made quite an impression in their debut against a well established team.
7) Dan Severn, John Pesek, & Erick Stevens defeated Rick Rude, Larry Zbyszko, & Angelo Poffo by DQ:
A big six-man tag team showdown saw Dan “The Beast” Severn, John Pesek, & Erick Stevens join forces to battle the Heenan Family trio of “Ravishing” Rick Rude, Larry Zbyszko, & Angelo Poffo. It was the first chance for Pesek to get his hands on Zbyszko, his former long time tag team partner, after Zbyszko betrayed him to sign with manager Bobby “The Brain” Heenan. The action was heated in this one particularly with Zbyszko doing his best to avoid facing Pesek. The Heenan Family did a good job of getting the heat on Severn early including Rude scoring a two count with a clothesline. Poffo then caught Severn with a counter sunset flip off of the ropes but “The Beast” kicked out with authority. Pesek tagged in and did a number on Rude including trapping him in the Tiger Man Toehold for a submission chance. It was a real battle down the stretch before finally Pesek got his hands on Zbyszko using such holds as the double bar hammerlock and lateral press keylock. Zbyszko bailed out of the ring and Pesek followed leading to a wild brawl at ringside involving all six men. The Heenan Family team wound up being disqualified when a frustrated Zbyszko sent Pesek head first into the ring post. LOW officials had to rush down to ringside to separate the two teams but in the end Severn, Pesek, and Stevens stood tall as Heenan gathered the troops to return to the locker room.
8) LOW World tag team titles: Sabu & Rob Van Dam© defeated John & Chris Tolos to retain the titles:
The main event saw manager Bill Alfonso lead LOW World tag team champions Sabu & Rob Van Dam into battle against former champions John & Chris Tolos who are collectively known as the Hamilton Wrecking Crew. Early action saw John Tolos using his aggressive tactics on Sabu including the thumb to the throat and standing knee drop. Things were looking good for the former champions until Sabu nailed Chris with the spinning leg lariat. A tag to RVD set up the “Whole F’N Show” going to the top rope and hitting the spectacular Five Star Frog Splash on Chris for a big near fall. John made a last second save to prevent Chris from being pinned there. Sabu and RVD then combined on Rolling Thunder before Sabu trapped Chris in the Camel Clutch going for the submission. The champions went to their chair assisted offense and it was Sabu connecting with Air Sabu, a springboard off a chair into a leg lariat in the corner, on Chris. John rushed in to prevent a pin but was cut off by RVD as Sabu fell on Chris and got the three count. It was a successful version two defense of the championship for Sabu & RVD against a very tough challenge in the form of the Hamilton Wrecking Crew.
