Ok Pariah brace yourself for the in-ring debut of The Mountie in PCW not to mention some history being made on this wild night in Portland...
LOW Pacific Coast Wrestling - Portland Sports Arena - Portland, OR (Card #940)
1) John Tolos defeated Henry Irslinger:
Henry Irslinger of LOW All-Star Wrestling took on the “Golden Greek” John Tolos in an intense opening match. Tolos jumped Irslinger before the bell and never let up on the offensive. He hit the Flying Knee Drop early but Irslinger impressively kicked out at the count of two. Tolos kept on him, though, and battered him both in and out of the ring. It wasn’t long before it was over as Tolos delivered a second Flying Knee Drop to score the pin.
2) Rockin Robin defeated Joyce Grable:
Ring Angels action was next as the popular Rockin Robin took on double tough veteran star Joyce Grable. These two are very evenly matched and had a great bout from bell to bell. Robin missed a top rope dive in the early going and Grable followed with a splash on her to score a big near fall. Robin would bounce back and score some near falls of her own with the flying clothesline and a counter sunset flip. Grable showed her aggressiveness punishing Robin late into this one and she scored some more near falls with the scoop bodyslam and vertical suplex. With time nearly running out it was Robin catching Grable with a series of armdrags followed up by a Swinging Neckbreaker to score the pin.
3) Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons defeated Brian Kendrick & Brad Armstrong:
This first time pairing of two popular stars in Brian Kendrick & Brad Armstrong had the tough task of taking on the “Flying Redheads” Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons of Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. “Pretty Boy” Larry Sharpe was in the corner for his men and grabbed the mic before the match saying that there has been a “distraction” recently for SSA, Inc. in one Sherri Martel, the girlfriend of Playboy Buddy Rose. Sharpe said that Sherri had better keep out of his business and that Rose is under a full time contract to him and SSA, Inc. will continue to run things around PCW. Things didn’t look too good for Bastien and Lyons early as Kendrick and Armstrong had them on the defense. It was Sharpe that would pay a pivotal role in the finish as on the outside he removed his shoe and hit Armstrong over the head with it. The referee was distracted and missed that so when a dazed Armstrong rolled back into the ring he was nailed with the Flying Dropkicks by Bastien resulting in the pin. The crowd jeered the decision with the SSA, Inc. members basking in their victory. The three remained at ringside as the participants for the next match arrived…
4) Playboy Buddy Rose defeated Tommy Gilbert:
There was a lot of tension in the air as Tommy Gilbert, a native of Lexington, TN, headed to the ring to take on Playboy Buddy Rose who was accompanied by Sherri Martel, his girlfriend and the record eight-time SHIMMER champion. Sherri has been very vocal of late about renaming Sharpe Sports Agency, Inc. to Sherri Sports Agency, Inc., a shot at Larry Sharpe who was stationed at ringside along with Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons. The referee warned the three men to keep out of things and Sharpe obliged by gesturing to his men to take seats near the timekeeper’s table. Gilbert and his son, Doug Gilbert, have had more than their share of run-ins with SSA, Inc. and the veteran star was hoping to get one over on them here. He did a great job controlling most of the way until Rose countered a backdrop by dropping an elbow on the back of his head. Gilbert was knocked for a loop as Sherri instructed Rose to finish it and he came off of the second rope with the Bombs Away to score the pin. It was in impressive win for Rose who afterward had to act as a peacemaker between Sherri and Sharpe who had a heated argument. Bastien and Lyons stepped in and got Sharpe to leave while a smiling Sherri kissed Rose. The foundation of SSA, Inc. appears to be crumbling each time Sharpe and Sherri see each other.
5) The Grappler & Ray Stevens defeated Dutch Savage & Pepper Gomez by DQ:
Heated tag team action saw Dutch Savage & Pepper Gomez join forces to take on The Grappler & Ray “The Crippler” Stevens. The action was furious in this bout with both teams looking to secure a victory. Savage and Gomez did a great job early of controlling the action. They had The Grappler in trouble including Gomez scoring a submission chance on the masked man with a sleeper hold. Stevens got his team back into it and had some heated exchanges with his longtime rival Gomez. He also hit the Bombs Away on Savage resulting in a big near fall with Gomez making the save. Things got out of control late into the bout as Stevens took Savage outside the ring while Gomez and The Grappler traded blows on the inside. Savage got the upper hand but his temper got the better of him and he nailed Stevens with several chair shots across the back. The referee saw that and he had no choice but to disqualify Savage snake eyes style for his actions. The Grappler helped Stevens assault Savage afterward until Gomez, having recovered from a Loaded Boot shot, jumped in to make the save. The four men battled it out uncontrollably until LOW officials ran in to break it up. It was later learned that the two teams will meet in a Falls Count Anywhere Match on the next PCW card in Seattle, WA (Card #947).
6) Jimmy Snuka defeated The Sandman by DQ:
More wild action followed as Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka took on The Sandman in a grudge match. These two tangled as part of a six-man tag team match on the last PCW card and Snuka, along with Roddy Piper, took turns assaulting The Sandman and the Texas Hangmen (Killer & Psycho) with the Singapore Cane. The Sandman took exception to that and specifically targeted Snuka for revenge. The “Superfly” had no problem taking him on in one-on-one action and early on he shook him up with a wicked piledriver. The Sandman bailed out of the ring and baited Snuka who continued the battle on the floor. The referee had a hard time trying to get them back in the ring and The Sandman took the upper hand with a run into the guard rail. He then fired Snuka back into the ring and blasted him square in the head with a shot from his Singapore Cane. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell and award Snuka the victory via disqualification. The Sandman then stood over a fallen Snuka and lit a cigarette before cracking open a can of beer. The referee ordered him to leave but he shoved the official down before pouring the beer out on the head of Snuka. That woke him up and an enraged Snuka shot back to his feet charging at The Sandman who quickly bailed out of the ring. Snuka then grabbed the mic and said that the war was just starting and dared him to return to the ring. The Sandman pointed at Snuka with the cane and then retreated to the back to jeers from the crowd.
7) Larry & Curt Hennig defeated The Mountie & Tom Prichard by DQ:
A third straight technical decision marred this highly anticipated match pitting Larry “The Axe” Hennig & Curt Hennig against The Mountie & Dr. Tom Prichard. The Mountie made his PCW debut on the last card helping Prichard attack Curt following a heated match between the two where Curt had vowed to leave PCW if he lost the match. The Mountie tried to use the Shock Stick on him but Larry rushed into the ring to save his son. The Hennig’s were on fire from the opening bell as they took the fight to The Mountie. Prichard was unable to tag in and The Mountie was in a bad way but to his credit he survived both the Hennig Plex and The Axe. The latter move came due to interference, though, as Playboy Buddy Rose, accompanied by Sherri Martel, ran in and attacked Larry drawing the disqualification. That set up a three-on-two attack and the Hennig’s took a beating before Tommy Gilbert rushed in with a baseball bat to help even up the odds. Sherri ordered her troops to bail out as the crowd cheered the save by Gilbert. Larry Hennig grabbed the mic post-match and said that since the sides are even he wanted a six-man tag team match on the next PCW card in Seattle, WA (Card #947). Sherri was quick to accept but then Larry Sharpe showed up and said that Rose is still under contract to SSA, Inc. so she has no right to agree to any matches. Rose got in between the two and ultimately convinced Sharpe that SSA, Inc. could grow stronger if The Mountie and Prichard got involved with the group at least on a trial basis. Sharpe reluctantly agreed to it but glared at Sherri who no doubt has caused a lot of disruption in his stable.
8) LOW International Heavyweight title: Roddy Piper defeated Greg Valentine to win the title:
History was made in a dramatic main event as home area favorite “Rowdy” Roddy Piper challenged Greg “The Hammer” Valentine, accompanied by his manager Captain Lou Albano, for the LOW International Heavyweight title. Piper had previously won a disqualification decision over Valentine so this rematch was one he was well prepared for. He dominated early and hit Valentine with what appeared to be a Foreign Object scoring a two count. Albano protested to no avail as Piper then got Valentine in his trademark Sleeper Hold nearly winning it by submission but it was broken up in the ropes. Valentine battled back furiously and scored some near falls of his own with the falling elbow hammer and the shoulder breaker. He attempted to set up for his trademark finisher, the Figure Four Leglock, but Piper was able to fend him off. Valentine was busted open late in the match a result of several violent battles outside the ring. That led to Piper going back to the Foreign Object, a pair of brass knuckles that knocked Valentine silly. The referee missed that and went to count the pin but Albano broke it up by pulling the official out of the ring. Piper kept up his attack and went for the Sleeper Hold but Albano ran in to break it up. Piper quickly fended off the rotund manager tossing him out of the ring before grabbing the bloody Valentine and locking on the hold. The crowd was in a frenzy by this point and with Albano out on the floor Valentine succumbed to the hold and Piper got the victory via a snake eyes submission. The crowd erupted in cheers as Piper was crowned the new LOW International Heavyweight champion capturing gold for the first time in LOW. Jimmy Snuka, Dutch Savage and a host of others rushed into the ring and hoisted Piper up on their shoulders as he celebrated his title win. It was a bitter loss for Valentine who went into the match with seven successful title defenses but now finds himself back in the role of a challenger.
