Thanks for the comments Kamala and Bookerbill, not to mention Pariah, Crimson and AJ as well. Bookerbill I never thought about it but Sheik climbing the ladder in his pointed boots could be pretty funny. Thanks also for the comments on the PCW card as that is quickly becoming my favorite territory to run. The SSA, Inc. crew is indeed heading for a fall but who will be left standing in the end? As for the debut of The Fantastics well it goes without saying that I enjoy writing around the antics of Jim Cornette and he was all over that episode. Next up is action from the IWA along with the full lineup for the upcoming Supercard of Honor event. I hope you enjoy the action and I also want to wish a very Happy Holiday season to all of my fellow promoters...
IWA - Hell Comes To Hellertown - American Legion Hall - Hellertown, PA (Card #942)
1) Jay Lethal, Tursas, & Brodie Lee defeated The Colony:
Trios action opened things up as The Colony (Fire Ant, Soldier Ant, & Green Ant) took on Jay Lethal, Tursas, & Brodie Lee who were accompanied by SoCal Val. The Colony clearly had the advantage in trios competition but the team put together by Val made up for that with a good mix of size, quickness and technique. There was a controversial moment midway through when Soldier Ant hit the TKO on Lethal but Val distracted the referee. Lee then blasted Soldier Ant with a chair shot across the back and Lethal rolled over on top of him scoring a two count. Tursas used his massive size to dominate and a Black Hole Slam on Fire Ant set up a Big Boot from Lee for another near fall. The finishing sequence saw Lethal nail Soldier Ant with Lethal Injection but Green Ant broke up the pin. In the ensuing moments it was an alert Lethal trapping Soldier Ant in the Koji Clutch and he tapped out giving the team led by SoCal Val a submission victory.
2) Bill White defeated Ron Hutchison:
A battle of journeyman veteran stars saw Ron Hutchison out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, face Wild Bill White, a native of Philadelphia, PA. Both men went in looking for their first win under the IWA banner. Hutchison did a great job of controlling the action including executing a Kiwi Roll for a near fall. He also caught White with the O’Connor Roll and Olympic Roll Up but was unable to secure a fall. White battled back hard and hit the shoulder breaker for a two count. White gained control near the finish hitting an atomic drop followed up by a Running Powerslam to score the pin.
● Interview – Ultramantis Black:
IWA ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker introduced Ultramantis Black for this special in-ring interview. The crowd cheered Ultramantis, the former head of the Order of the Neo Solar Temple in CHIKARA, as he made his way into the ring. Loudspeaker immediately asked if he had any plans to reform the Order but Ultramantis shot that down say it is a new day in the IWA. He said that he has plans to win championship gold and has his sights set on the IWA Heavyweight title drawing cheers from the crowd. Loudspeaker asked if he had been contacted about a match at Supercard of Honor (Card #949 in Chicago, IL) and he said that he is negotiating for a spot on the card. At that point Drew Galloway hit the ring and got into the face of Ultramantis saying that he doesn’t deserve a spot at Supercard of Honor or a championship opportunity. Ultramantis took exception to that and pounced on Galloway with the two brawling all over ringside. The two wound up on top of the timekeeper’s table and it was Ultramantis leveling Galloway with the Cosmic Disaster, a vertical suplex dropped into a reverse piledriver, putting him through the table! Galloway had to be put into a neck brace and carried to the back while Ultramantis grabbed the mic and said that anyone who crosses him will get what they deserve and he issued an open challenge for a match at Supercard of Honor. Galloway was later diagnosed with neck trauma and will miss the next few IWA cards as a result.
3) Brian Cage & Lance Hoyt defeated Sami Callihan & Willie Mack:
The popular pairing of Sami Callihan & Willie Mack had the tough task of facing Pringle Dynasty members “The Machine” Brian Cage & “American Psycho” Lance Hoyt who had manager Percy Pringle III in their corner. With Mike Quackenbush having lost the IWA Heavyweight title to Diamond Dallas Page, the Pringle Dynasty team was looking to build up some momentum with a win here. This match could have gone either way and featured both sides scoring big near falls and also delivering dramatic last second pin saves. Cage took a heavy beating from Callihan and Mack and wound up being busted open. Callihan likewise was busted open showing the intensity of this battle. Mack nearly pinned Cage late when he hit the MDX, a running clothesline in the corner, but Hoyt broke it up. Hoyt then got the tag and went on a brutal offensive against Mack culminating in him hitting the Texas Tornado, a fireman’s carry facebuster, to score the pin. Pringle flashed an evil smile at ringside as his men picked up the victory.
4) PJ Black defeated Kevin Steen:
“The Darewolf” PJ Black went into this match with former ROH Heavyweight champion Kevin Steen, known as “Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare”, an underdog but came out of it with an improbable victory. Steen dominated from the opening bell blasting Black with a superkick just moments into the match. He followed up with a vicious attack that included scoring a two count with fisherman buster onto the knee. Black looked out of it as Steen fired him out of the ring and followed him out looking to inflict more punishment. Black then suddenly found an opening and hit Steen with a dropkick to the back sending him head first into the ring post. An alert Black then rolled Steen back inside and climbed up to the top rope coming off with the 450 Splash to score the pin.
The crowd erupted in cheers as Black scored a huge win over the dangerous Steen. He quickly escaped to the back as an enraged Steen began storming around ringside taking out his frustration. He grabbed ring announcer Gavin Loudspeaker and dragged him into the ring threatening physical harm but instead dropped him and grabbed the microphone. He said that he was the victim of a quick count and that the world will see just how dangerous he is at Supercard of Honor. He then challenged Ultramantis Black to face him saying that what Black did to Drew Galloway is nothing and that he will up the level of violence in Chicago. Steen returned to the back where it was later confirmed that Ultramantis Black accepted the challenge to face him in what should be a most intriguing bout.
5) IWA J-Crown Elimination Match: Kyle O’Reilly defeated Chuck Taylor:
The first of two semi-final round matches in the IWA J-Crown Elimination Tournament saw Kyle O’Reilly, one-half of reDRagon along with Bobby Fish, going up against the “Kentucky Gentleman” Chuck Taylor. Both men impressed in the early going particularly Taylor who countered a snap suplex and then hit the turnbuckle power bomb and a springboard moonsault scoring a two count. O’Reilly made a nice counter of his own slipping out of an overhead suplex and applying a guillotine choke. O’Reilly then went on a nice offensive and picked up a near fall with a brainbuster. He then applied Armageddon but Taylor was able to get to the ropes for a break. Taylor followed with his own submission hold, the Cross Crab, and would then hit a somersault suicide dive. This one could have gone either way but it was an alert O’Reilly again trapping Taylor in Armageddon and he tapped out ending this one in a submission. The win means that O’Reilly will go to the finals in Chicago and Taylor, knowing how close he had come, pounded the mat in frustration afterward.
6) IWA J-Crown Elimination Match: Johnny Gargano defeated AR Fox:
Two free agent stars representing Evolve collided in the other semi-final elimination match as AR Fox took on Johnny Gargano. Both men were determined to advance to the finals and that was evident by the flow of action in this match. Gargano scored a two count with the Hurts Donut at one point and then locked on the Gargano Escape but Fox was able to quickly escape from the hold. Fox stormed back with a nice offensive hitting the AR-KO and springboard 450 splash among other key moves. He then laid out Gargano with the Krunch, an over the shoulder back to belly piledriver, and went for the pin but he kicked out just before the three count. Fox was beside himself and argued with the referee before delivering a second Krunch but this time Gargano kicked out at two. The crowd cheered that as Fox looked on in disbelief wondering what he had to do to get the win. Gargano dug down deep and mounted a comeback culminating in him trapping Fox in the Gargano Escape (+2) on center ring. Fox desperately tried to escape from the punishing hold but Gargano had it locked in. That resulted in Fox tapping out and sending Gargano to the finals wit a submission victory. The crowd cheered the victory by Gargano and the post-match exchange as Fox shook hands with him and wished him luck. Gargano will now face Kyle O’Reilly at Supercard of Honor in Chicago to determine the first ever IWA J-Crown champion.
7) IWA tag team titles: Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas defeated Kings of Wrestling to win the titles:
The IWA tag team titles were on the line in a highly anticipated showdown as “Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team” Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas, three-time former ROH tag team champions, took on defending champions the Kings of Wrestling (Chris Hero & Claudio Castagnoli). Benjamin was electric early dominating the action until Hero caught him with a Cravate Buster setting up a UFO by Castagnoli for a near fall. Castagnoli followed up hitting the Ricola Bomb on both Benjamin and Haas for near falls. A great spot saw Hero setting up for the Loaded Rolling Elbow Smash on Haas but he avoided it and locked on the Haas of Pain for a submission chance. That led into WGTT scoring a near fall on Hero with the superkick into German Suplex. Things were looking bad for Hero late in this one as he was busted open on the outside and nearly pinned after a corner splash from Benjamin. The KOW mounted a nice comeback but it was not enough as the finish saw Benjamin cut off a save attempt by Castagnoli after a Superplex and float over by Haas onto Hero for the pin. The crowd erupted in cheers as new IWA tag team champions were crowned in the form of WGTT – Benjamin and Haas. A bloody Hero and Castagnoli failed to retain the titles in their first defense but showed some class by shaking hands with the new champions. It was later learned that Benjamin & Haas will not only have to face Hero & Castagnoli in a rematch at Supercard of Honor but it will be a three-way elimination match involving another pair of former champions in the Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian).
8) IWA Heavyweight title: Diamond Dallas Page© defeated Eddie Kingston to retain the title:
The main event saw popular Jersey Shore native Diamond Dallas Page, days removed from winning the IWA Heavyweight title from Mike Quackenbush, making his first defense of the title against the formidable challenge of the “War King” Eddie Kingston, a former LOW Tex-Arkana Television champion and two-time CHIKARA Grand Champion. DDP opened up strong winning a Chop Battle and leveling Kingston with a face-first piledriver scoring a two count. He followed up with a nice run on offense culminating in him hitting the Diamond Cutter but Kingston kicked out just before the three count. The crowd cheered the resilience of Kingston who began to mount a comeback including hitting the Backfist to the Future for a big near fall of his own. He also connected with other big moves like the Lariat and the backdrop driver putting DDP in serious trouble. A big counter late in the match resulted in DDP hitting another Diamond Cutter but then Pringle Dynasty members Brian Cage and Lance Hoyt hit the ring. Percy Pringle III followed barking instructions to his men as the referee attempted to get things under control. The two attempted to hit a double clothesline on DDP but he ducked it and hit Cage with a Diamond Cutter while Kingston blasted Hoyt with the Backfist to the Future. Kingston then turned into an instinctive Diamond Cutter delivered by DDP and that resulted in a three count.
It was a controversial win for DDP who grabbed the title belt and taunted Pringle with it telling him to get Quackenbush ready for Supercard of Honor. Cage and Hoyt then took the manager to the back as a weary Kingston recovered and engaged in a stare down with DDP. Things got a little tense before Kingston grabbed the mic and said that he didn’t blame DDP for capitalizing on the situation and wished him luck against Quackenbush. Instead he turned his anger on the Pringle Dynasty members and demanded that Cage and Hoyt meet him in a tag team match at Supercard of Honor stating that he would be bringing backup with him. It was later learned that the match will take place and that it will be Kingston joining forces with the “Unbreakable” Michael Elgin.
