A whole load of great matches coming up! At the PWI Invitational I reckon Ox Baker will lose to Blassie, given his record in my fed. I pick the team of The Grappler and The Crippler to win that tag battle and face the Road Warriors! And then win the gold! Obviously I'm backing Armstrongs to beat Gilberts, that will come as a surprise to nobody.
Credible vs Jerry Lynn in a Singapore Cane match will be a night I'm sure. And not forgetting the Kings Rd Utd six legends special battle, chock full of talent! My pick is Bockwinkel, Rogers & Hackenschmidt to win.

Thanks very much for the comments Bookerbill and Vegas and for your predictions Kat Rana. I have not had much time to roll the dice the past few days but I finally completed the first leg of WrestleCade X weekend in the form of the first round of the PWI Invitational Cup Tournament. Here are the results and with any luck I will have the next show posted by the end of the weekend...LOW - 8th Annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament - Reunion Arena - Dallas, TX (Card #997)First Round: 1) Fred Blassie defeated Ox Baker: The “King of Men” Fred Blassie, a two-time LOW World Heavyweight champion, took on the “Master of the Heart Punch” Ox Baker, winner of the fourth annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament. Baker had things going his way early and scored a two count with a shoulder breaker. Blassie countered a backdrop attempt with a kick to the chest and then trapped Baker in the stomach claw. Baker battled back hitting a clothesline and a shoulder tackle. Blassie was stunned but he recovered quickly and used his “Vampire” teeth for a Bite to the Forehead and then executed a quick roll-up on Baker to score the pin. Baker was furious claiming that Blassie held the tights for leverage but the decision stood and the “King of Men” advanced to the quarter-final round. 2) Killer Kowalski defeated King Kong Bundy: Two of the most rugged participants in the tournament squared off as the massive 446-pound King Kong Bundy out of Atlantic City, NJ, took on Killer Kowalski, the feared claw hold master out of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. The sheer size of Bundy presented some problems for Kowalski but he used his strength to counter that at various points of the match. Bundy was on the defensive for a good stretch until taking over outside the ring. He ran Kowalski back first into the guard rail and then back inside he squeezed him with a big bearhug. From there it was a good battle of give and take until Kowalski nailed Bundy with the bombs away knee drop. Then in an impressive display he lifted Bundy up and nailed him with a side Backbreaker to score the pin. Kowalski advanced with a hard fought victory over Bundy. 3) Tracy Smothers defeated Jim Londos: A battle of fan favorites saw the “Golden Greek” Jim Londos lock up with the “Wild Eyed Southern Boy” Tracy Smothers. Both men shook hands at the bell and then Londos, a former LOW World Heavyweight champion, took control and executed the Airplane Spin early for a near fall. Smothers battled back and picked up back to back near falls with the slingshot dropkick and his trademark Jawjacker, a diving back elbow to the face. Smothers went to a grinding headlock but Londos expertly escaped using a leg spread and then locked on the Boston Crab going for the submission. Smothers was able to get to the ropes for a break and then a short time later he nearly won it by count out after catching Londos with a dive off of the ring apron to the floor. Smothers was showing great tenacity battling against the odds as Londos went into the tournament as one of the favorites to win it all. A great back and forth exchange built to the finish which saw Smothers stun Londos and then come off of the top rope with the Moonsault Bodyblock to score the pin. It was a shocking win for Smothers who advances to the quarter-final round. Londos was disappointed in defeat but showed great class by shaking hands with Smothers drawing cheers from the crowd. 4) Frank Gotch defeated Tyler Black: Iowa native Frank Gotch, a two-time LOW World Heavyweight champion, took on promising young star Tyler Black who also hails from the Hawkeye State. Black is known for being an aggressive, hard hitting wrestler with a world of untapped potential. He surprised Gotch with a counter sunset flip early scoring a two count and then rattled him with a power bomb to the turnbuckle. Gotch was able to absorb some hammering punches and dealt back his own series of punches. He then caught Black with the rolling kneebar and locked on the Gotch Toehold going for the submission. Black was in serious pain but he managed to fight out of the punishing hold. He mounted a nice comeback, including roughing up Gotch on the outside, but was unable to put him away. Gotch regained control and went right back to locking on the Gotch Toehold and this time there was no escape forcing Black to tap out. Gotch scored an impressive submission victory and advance to the quarter-final round. 5) Blackjack Mulligan defeated Angelo Mosca: Another battle of rugged stars saw Angelo “King Kong” Mosca out of Toronto, Ontario, Canada take on Eagle Pass, TX, native Blackjack Mulligan. The crowd sided with Texas native Mulligan as he took on Mosca a man that he has both teamed and feuded with in the past. It was a pretty nip and tuck battle most of the way with each man getting close to victory. Mulligan scored two counts with a knee to the gut and press along with the back elbow ram. He also used the trapezius claw going for the submission but Mosca fought out of the hold. Mosca then nearly put Mulligan away with the Sleeper Hold but it was broken up in the ropes. Mosca went to the abdominal stretch going for the submission but Mulligan escaped from the punishing hold. A heart punch by Mosca sent Mulligan out of the ring where the furious battle continued on the floor. Mosca gained the upper hand and went for a deathjump (ch) back inside but Mulligan alertly moved out of the way. Mulligan then nailed Mosca with the Lariat to score the pin and advance to the quarter-final round. 6) Don Leo Jonathan defeated Antonino Rocca: The high flying Antonino Rocca, the winner of the third annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament, took on the “Mormon Giant” Don Leo Jonathan who is also noted for his agility along with great strength. Jonathan scored early with a big atomic drop and went for the cover but Rocca kicked out at the count of one. Rocca then caught Jonathan in a crushing body scissors which nearly resulted in a submission. Jonathan battled back executing a multiple revolution giant swing but Rocca recovered and hit a victory roll before transitioning into a bow and arrow for another submission chance. A barrage of flying dropkicks stunned Jonathan and things were looking good for Rocca as the crowd cheered him on. Jonathan, however, had different plans and he battled back connecting with the Mormon Swing to score the pin. It was a huge victory for Jonathan who now moves on to the quarter-final round while Rocca will be unable to become the first two-time winner of the PWI Cup. 7) Gorgeous George defeated The Crusher: The “Man that made Milwaukee Famous”, The Crusher, received a big ovation from the crowd as he hit the ring to take on Gorgeous George who was accompanied by his valet Cherie Dupre. Although this was a contrast in styles it was interesting to see George resort to brawling tactics trying to beat The Crusher at his own game. The two had some brutal exchanges involving eye gouges, fingernail rakes and even use of the Georgie pins. The Crusher gained control and had George in trouble using both the bearhug and the Crusher Nelson. The turning point came when Dupre interfered from the outside grabbing the leg of The Crusher allowing George to roll him up for a two count. George took advantage of the situation and immediately followed with a rolling hiplock and a small package with tights for near falls. The Crusher was then busted open over the right eye when George ran him into the guard rail. Dupre again got involved providing a distraction of the referee allowing George to hit The Crusher in the back of the knee with a chair. Back inside the ring George applied a figure four leglock going for the submission but The Crusher reversed out of the hold. The Crusher, by now bleeding badly, was left in a bad way and George followed up with the Spinning Toe Hold and grabbed onto the top rope for leverage to win the bout via submission. George advanced to the quarter-final round in a backhanded way and The Crusher was irate post-match tearing up the ringside area until he was led to the back by LOW officials. 8) The Mountie defeated Magnum T.A.: A controversial final first round match saw former LOW World Heavyweight champion Magnum T.A. out of Chesapeake, VA, take on The Mountie, the shock stick wielding star out of Montreal, Quebec, Canada representing Sherri Sports Agency, Inc. Sherri Martel, the record eight-time SHIMMER champion, accompanied The Mountie to ringside for the match. Magnum held control early and managed to surprise The Mountie with his patented Belly to Belly Suplex but was unable to score the pin as Martel pulled his leg over the bottom rope. That pissed off Magnum who continued his attack nailing The Mountie with a running forearm scoring a two count. It was looking bad for The Mountie until he blasted Magnum with a dropkick to the face and then hit the Short Choke Slam scoring a two count. The match was fought at a more even pace from there until Magnum again hit the Belly to Belly Suplex for what looked to be a sure pin but Martel distracted the referee preventing a count from being made. Magnum then fired The Mountie out of the ring but that proved to be a mistake as the Canadian star caught him with a run into the guard rail. Back inside it was The Mountie using his Shock Stick on Magnum and he went for the pin but only got a two count. The crowd erupted in cheers as Magnum kicked out but then moments later, as Sherri again provided a distraction, it was The Mountie delivering a second dose of the Shock Stick and that resulted in the pin. The crowd jeered the decision as The Mountie advanced to the quarter-final round. The following are the quarter-final round matches taking place along with the semi-final round at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston, TX (Card #998):
Fred Blassie vs. Killer Kowalski Tracy Smothers vs. Frank Gotch Blackjack Mulligan vs. Don Leo Jonathan Gorgeous George vs. The Mountie

Really enjoyed the opening round of the tournament. Surprised to see Londos go out early but I am glad that DLJ and Frank Gotch advanced. I think they will make it to the finals. Stacked field this year.

Haha! Not all the fans were jeering the decision in that final bout of the opening round... Props to Magnum TA for giving it his best, BUT we all know... The Mountie ALWAYS gets his man!
Seriously though... There was no shortage of great action, as each and every the competitor showed that they deserved to be a part of this illustrious event... Really hoping that Sherri Martel can lead her client all the way... But, there's some pretty stiff competition to contend with...
WrestleCade weekend starts with a BANG, my friend... Awesome job!

What a great start to the PWiT with 6 out of the 8 I picked won, that's pretty cool. I really wanted Angelo Mosca to win, but that Lariat from Blackjack puts even a fellow tough guy in Mosca away. I loved the cheap, no wait I didn't see it way Gorgeous George won his match against The Crusher... Here are my next picks... Fred Blassie vs. Killer Kowalski Tracy Smothers vs. Frank GotchBlackjack Mulligan vs. Don Leo JonathanGorgeous George vs. The MountieI'd love to see Gorgeous George win it all, but I have a feeling his run ends with The Mountie and I would pick Mulligan, but my gut thinks DLJ will take that victory and move forward in the tournament...

Thanks for the comments Bookerbill, Pariah and Crimson. That was an intense opening night of action and the most shocking result for me was seeing Jim Londos lose to Tracy Smothers. I was expecting Londos to go far in the tournament but Smothers refused to go down and dug down deep to get that win. That was one of those moments when you truly love this game because you just never know what is going to happen when you roll the dice. I knew that The Mountie winning was going to be popular around these parts (looking mainly at you Pariah ) but credit Sherri Martel for the assist. I was shocked when Magnum kicked out of the first Shock Stick (puns intended) jab but the second one got him. Thanks for the predictions going into the next round and congrats Crimson on your six first round wins. Coming up next is night two of WrestleCade X weekend, I hope you enjoy it.

LOW - 8th Annual PWI Invitational Cup Tournament - Sam Houston Coliseum - Houston, TX (Card #998)
Quarter-Final Round:
1) Fred Blassie defeated Killer Kowalski: What was expected to be a wild brawl between the “King of Men” Fred Blassie and Killer Kowalski was over pretty quickly. Blassie took a shortcut right at the open with a vicious eye gouge and then sent Kowalski into the ropes catching him with a knee to the midsection on the rebound. The blow appeared to strike low and Blassie took full advantage of that quickly hitting the Southern Neckbreaker to score the pin. It was a shockingly quick bout and Kowalski went crazy post-match tossing the referee out of the ring and delivering a low blow to Blassie. He then locked the Kowalski Claw on the midsection of Blassie until LOW officials hit the ring to pull him off. Blassie advanced to the semi-final round but not without taking some post-match punishment from Kowalski.
2) Frank Gotch defeated Tracy Smothers: The “Wild Eyed Southern Boy” Tracy Smothers shocked the world with his victory over Jim Londos in round one but now he had to deal with another elite star in one Frank Gotch, the inaugural LOW World Heavyweight champion. Both men shook hands at the bell before Gotch took over on offense and before long caught Smothers with the rolling kneebar. He then trapped him in the Gotch Toehold going for the submission but Smothers was able to grab the ropes for a break. Smothers fought back into it and stunned Gotch with a running crossbody before executing the moonsault bodyblock resulting in a two count. Smothers used that momentum to build on his offense and hit the flying shoulder block several times. Gotch was reeling until he caught Smothers with a rolling kneebar followed by the Iowa backdrop. Smothers bailed out of the ring but as he return Gotch hammered him with a Series of Punches and covered him to score the pin. Smothers was busted open from the blows and was in a bad way post-match as Gotch, the referee and some LOW officials helped him out of the ring. Gotch advanced to the semi-final round against Fred Blassie with his win and also served notice to the “King of Men” that he was going to be a force to be reckoned with.
3) Blackjack Mulligan defeated Don Leo Jonathan: This highly anticipated battle of big men got off to a wild start as the “Mormon Giant” Don Leo Jonathan attacked Blackjack Mulligan at ringside as he was trying to sign autographs for the home state fans. Mulligan quickly turned the tables and the two began a wild brawl all over the ringside area. The referee finally got them into the ring and called for the bell as Mulligan locked on the trapezius claw going for the submission. Jonathan fought out of the punishing hold but quickly found himself tossed over the top rope and onto the timekeeper’s table. The crowd was whipped into a frenzy at this point as Jonathan struggled to climb back onto the ring apron. The “Mormon Giant” attempted to get back in and Mulligan pounced on him quickly applying the Claw Hold to his head. Jonathan tried to escape but Mulligan yanked him down to the mat and kept the pressure on. The referee checked for signs of struggle but Jonathan was fading and the bell sounded ending this one in a submission win for Mulligan who advanced to the semi-final round.
4) Gorgeous George defeated The Mountie: In the wildest tournament match thus far, and that is saying something, it was Gorgeous George, accompanied by his valet Cherie Dupre, taking on The Mountie who had Sherri Martel in his corner. The presence of the two women made for an interesting dynamic and Martel, the record eight-time SHIMMER champion, made sure to try and intimidate Dupre during the ring introductions. The Mountie got off to a strong start and nailed George with a piledriver scoring a two count. Dupre interfered by grabbing the leg of The Mountie and George followed locking him in the Gorgeous Grip for a submission chance. Martel was livid and distracted the referee when George tried for a pin after a rolling hiplock. The Mountie made a nice comeback and then used his controversial Shock Stick on George for what looked to be a sure pin but Dupre distracted the referee. The Mountie followed with a Boston Crab going for the submission but George was able to escape. A wild scene came when George went for the Spinning Toe Hold but Martel diverted the attention of the referee by telling him to watch Dupre. Martel then slid into the ring and hit George over the head with her high heeled shoe leading to The Mountie going for the pin. It looked to be over but somehow George rolled his shoulder up before the three count. After surviving a strong attack from The Mountie it was George executing a small package with tights for a big near fall. Martel complained to the referee as George then trapped The Mountie in the Spinning Toe Hold. She tried to get into the ring when suddenly Dupre pulled her back down and sprayed the perfume atomizer in her eyes! The crowd was going crazy over that and The Mountie, unable to escape, tapped out giving George the victory via submission. George advanced to the semi-final round to face Blackjack Mulligan but there was no doubt that The Mountie, and in many respects Martel, gave him the fight of his life.
5) SHIMMER tag team titles – Four Way Elimination Match: Global Green Gangsters defeated Canadian Ninjas, Made In Sin and Sassy Stephie & Nevaeh to win the titles: The SHIMMER tag team titles were on the line as the defending champions the Canadian Ninjas (Portia Perez & Nicole Matthews) defended the belts against three of their toughest rival teams – the Global Green Gangsters (“Rate Tank” Kellie Skater & Tomoka Nakagawa), Made In Sin (Allysin Kay & Taylor Made), and Sassy Stephie & Nevaeh, the S & S Express. Each team had their reasons for wanting a piece of the Ninjas but perhaps none more than Stephie and Nevaeh as both had been put out of action by them including Stephie being burned with a fireball by Matthews.
The match was held under elimination roles with members from two teams made to start via a coin toss and then any team being able to tag in during the course of the match. The Ninjas lost out on the coin toss and took their place on the ring apron and of course did their best to stay there and let the other teams battle it out. It didn’t work out too well as eventually Perez found herself in a bad way and the Ninjas were the first to be eliminated when Nakagawa got her to tap out to the CRB, a bridging reverse chinlock. With the defending champions out the remaining three teams engaged in a furious back and forth battle. Nevaeh nearly pinned Kay after hitting the Backpack Stunner but Skater broke up that pin. Skater then tossed Nevaeh out of the ring and prevented Kay from making a tag by trapping her in the Ankle Lock. Kay was unable to escape and tapped out giving GGG a second elimination in the match. With two teams left it was the S & S Express looking great but somehow GGG were able to fend off a defeat. In the end it was Nakagawa catching Stephie with a sliding lariat before locking on the CRB. Nevaeh tried to make the save but was cut off by Skater and Stephie tapped out. GGG got a third consecutive submission elimination and were crowned the new SHIMMER tag team champions.
Order of Elimination:
● Canadian Ninjas (Nakagawa over Perez by submission – CRB) ● Made In Sin (Skater over Kay by submission – Ankle Lock) ● Sassy Stephie & Nevaeh (Nakagawa over Stephie by submission – CRB)
6) Singapore Cane Match: Jerry Lynn defeated Justin Credible: The intense rivalry between Jerry Lynn and Justin Credible in the NWC led to this Singapore Cane Match being signed. Lynn had tired of Credible using the weapon against him and hoped to give him a taste of his own medicine during WrestleCade X weekend. Credible was dominant early including hitting That’s Incredible for a big near fall. He also used the Singapore cane a number of times leaving welts across the back and chest of Lynn. Lynn took a serious beating until Credible sent him into the ropes and went for a backdrop. Lynn countered nicely with a sunset flip for a two count and subsequently used the cane to deliver a low blow. Credible was out of it and Lynn quickly grabbed him planting him with the Cradle Piledriver to score the pin. The crowd cheered the victory by Lynn who celebrated his win by leveling Credible with a cane shot to the head to lay him out. Credible had to be assisted to the back by LOW officials as Lynn celebrated his win with the ringsiders.
Semi-Final Round:
7) Fred Blassie defeated Frank Gotch: The first of the two semi-final round matches saw the popular Frank Gotch taking on the “King of Men” Fred Blassie. It was also a battle of former LOW World Heavyweight champions and a contrast of styles with the technically sound Gotch against the brawling tactics of Blassie. An early surprise saw Blassie catch Gotch of guard by countering a backdrop with a cradle hold for a pin attempt. Gotch would counter a similar attempt by Blassie later to score a two count. Gotch dominated for a good stretch and was able to apply the Gotch Toehold going for the submission but Blassie grabbed the ropes for a break. A guillotine choke by Gotch had Blassie in trouble but he refused to tap out. Blassie began coming back and used his “Vampire” teeth to bite the forehead and then quickly rolled up Gotch for a two count. Things went back and forth for a stretch before Blassie struck with a Low Blow out of view of the referee. Blassie then rolled up the stunned Gotch and grabbed a handful of tights to score the pin. It was a shocking finish and the crowd jeered the actions of Blassie who earned himself a spot in the tournament final at WrestleCade X.
8) Blackjack Mulligan defeated Gorgeous George by DQ: The other semi-final round match saw the popular Blackjack Mulligan take on the flamboyant Gorgeous George who was accompanied by his valet Cherie Dupre. The presence of Dupre had already become a factor throughout the tournament so Mulligan needed to be prepared for it. She annoyed him by spraying perfume in his corner during the ring introductions and George made matters worse by holding his nose. The pro-Texas crowd erupted in jeers wanting to see Mulligan take care of business. Mulligan dominated early using the blatant claw choke and then a big lariat scoring a two count. Dupre interfered grabbing the leg of Mulligan and that allowed George to take over on offense. George used both the airplane spin and the Gorgeous Grip, his version of the sleeper hold, attempting to wear Mulligan down. It failed to work as Mulligan came back with a series of right hands and then a bodyslam and press for a two count. The two wound up battling to the outside and George, perhaps out of desperation, ran Mulligan head first into the ring post and then sprayed perfume into his eyes with the perfume atomizer. The referee had no choice but to call for the bell and award Mulligan the victory via disqualification. Mulligan advanced to the finals against Fred Blassie at WrestleCade X and even gained some post-match revenge as he recovered from the spray and sent George over the top rope to the floor with a running lariat drawing cheers from the crowd.
9) 10-Team Battle Royal for a shot at the LOW World tag team titles at WrestleCade X: The main event saw ten of the best tag teams in LOW compete for a shot at the LOW World tag team titles held by the Road Warriors (Animal & Hawk) in one of the feature matches at WrestleCade X. Manager Paul Ellering was on hand to watch the action and noted to PWI Editor Bill Apter that Animal and Hawk were busy in the gym working out for whatever team might be facing them on the biggest stage of them all. The match was held under traditional Battle Royal rules with elimination coming via over the top rope to the floor. In addition since it was a tag team Battle Royal that meant that when one member of the team was eliminated that both men had to leave the ring. The wildest elimination came via a double elimination as both Stars & Stripes (The Patriot & Marcus Alexander Bagwell) and the Texas Hangmen (Killer & Psycho) went out when Psycho tried to save Killer from being eliminated by The Patriot. The most controversial elimination was the first one as the Miracle Violence Connection (Steve “Dr. Death” Williams & Terry “Bamm Bamm” Gordy) were eliminated by The Grappler & Ray “The Crippler” Stevens when the masked man hit Williams with his loaded boot and dumped him out. A legendary rivalry was renewed late when The Sheepherders (Butch Miller & Luke Williams) took on the Fabulous Kangaroos (Al Costello & Roy Heffernan) in a heated exchange. Ultimately it was The Sheepherders getting eliminated when Costello tossed Miller out after giving him an Aussie Suplex. The finals saw the Kangaroos and the Grappler & Stevens going at it in an equally heated exchange. Costello was nearly eliminated by Stevens but Heffernan made the save. The finish saw The Grappler being tossed out by Costello after being rocked with a series of forearm smashes. That meant that the Fabulous Kangaroos, backed by manager Wild Red Berry, are going to WrestleCade X to challenge the Road Warriors for the LOW World tag team titles.
Order of Elimination:
● Steve Williams & Terry Gordy (by The Grappler & Ray Stevens) ● Giant Bernard & Dan Spivey (by Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik) ● Texas Hangmen (by Stars & Stripes)* ● Stars & Stripes (by Texas Hangmen)* ● Midnight Rockers (by The Sheepherders) ● The Warlord & One Man Gang (by Fabulous Kangaroos) ● Nikolai Volkoff & Iron Sheik (by The Grappler & Ray Stevens) ● The Sheepherders (by Fabulous Kangaroos) ● The Grappler & Ray Stevens (by Fabulous Kangaroos) W) Fabulous Kangaroos
