Televised Matches
Welcome to another year of great wrestling action. We hope you had a good holiday season, folks. We’ll hear from the new United States Champion tonight, and see some great action. And if you missed it, The Crusher returned at Starrcade!
In Ring Segment Jimmy Snuka comes out to a thunderous ovation. He gets in the ring and poses with the United States Championship before grabbing a mic.
Snuka: I love you fans. I am so pleased to be your United States Champion. What a match I had at Starrcade. I want to thank my opponent. Steve, you fought a hell of a match. Fan’s I’ll make you proud.
“Pomp and Circumstances” blares through the arena and Gorgeous George comes out with Cherie Dupree. George looks disgusted with Snuka, and slowly climbs in the ring. Cherie sprays Snuka with perfume as George asks for a mic.
George: Stand back, you savage. I want to address the NWA board. I had one of my best years last year, and I was left off of Starrcade, while this beast came back and was immediately given a feature match on that show. It’s a travesty. Well, know this. I am a future World Heavyweight Champion, and I think I will take your US Title along the way. The NWA cannot be represented by the likes of you.
Snuka is furious as George prances from the ring.
Bob Roop vs. The Crusher: The fans are ecstatic to see The Crusher back in the ring. The match ended when Roop was disqualified for a brawl on the floor that The Crusher instigated.
Sheri Martel vs. Daizee Haze: Young Daizee Haze will have her hands full in her debut against the great Sheri Martel. She holds her own, but falls prey to a TOP ROPE SPLASH!
Steve Williams vs. B. Brian Blair: Doc wins within 4 moves and gets the pin after a lariat!
Harley Race with Bobby Heenan vs. George Hackenschmidt: Two former World Champions in a shocker. Race uses a spinning neckbreaker and a PILEDRIVER to get a very fast win over “The Russian Lion.”
Tag Team Match The Road Warriors with Paul Ellering vs. Rick Rude & Curt Hennig with Bobby Heenan: This could make or break Hennig and Rude as a tag team. They suffered a crushing defeat against the World Tag Team Champions on Sunday, but have been otherwise undefeated. The Road Warriors are staples here in the Tag Devision. They haven’t been able to beat the Champions, but have otherwise dominated this Division. Rude and Animal trade blows early on. Hennig and Rude work over Animal until Hennig gets isolated and takes a spike piledriver. Hawk lays into the former World Champion and the two end up in a wild brawl on the floor. Hawk ends up going for a chair shot, he grazes Hennig, but the referee calls for the bell. Heenan is ecstatic, a win is a win.
Cowboy Bob Orton with Bobby Heenan vs. Rikidozan: Orton never quite gets the edge, but does hit his SUPERPLEX! He survives all of Rikidozan’s finishers, but is pinned after a scoop slam. Both men come out of this match looking good.
Main Event Gorgeous George with Cherie Dupree vs. Ilio Diapolo: Diapolo dominated with his power, escaping George’s best ground holds. Dipaolo won with an AIRPLANE SPIN! What does this do for George’s World Title aspirations?

Card 176: NWA ECW from Philadelphia, PN (January 14)
Non-Televised Matches
Fritz Von Goering vs. Al Snow: Debut of both men. Von Goering gets the easy win by a bear hug.
Koko B. Ware vs. Tyler Black: Black wins his debut with an impressive PHEONIX SPLASH after he missed on the first attempt.
Televised Matches
Welcome to the start of the first full year of ECW action. We hope you had a great New Year’s celebration, folks. We have some great action for you tonight, including the first TV appearance of our new World Television Champion, Bryan Danielson as he takes on the evil insect Ultramantis Black.
Tiger Mask vs. Chuck Taylor: Chuck Taylor’s debut here. We here this guy was really hated in his local independent promotion. He’ll face the masked feline from Yamaguchi, Japan, the great Tiger Mask. What a welcome to the NWA. Taylor walked away bloody, and saw almost no offence, but he took everything Tiger Mask had to offer before finally being pinned by a twisting moonsault. Tiger Mask shakes the new comer’s hand. That’s high praise from the masked man.
Hardcore Texas Deathmatch Nick Jackson vs. Robbie V: Young Robbie V has had a few setbacks since coming to ECW. Nick Jackson hasn’t been in a solo match yet, and this is a rough way to start. V went to war on Jackson, shutting him down at every move and even choked Jackson with a television cord. V got the win with a split legged moonsault and then he asks for a mic.
Robbie V: You see what I did to this kid. I am the future of ECW and the whole NWA. This stupid promotion named me Robbie V, but my name is Rob Van Dam. I was trained by The Sheik. I’m here to win, and carry on his legacy. Danielson, I’m coming for you. Mascaras, I’m coming for you. And everybody else better get out of the way, or I’ll smoke your ass.
Yukon Eric vs. Steve Corino: A great back and forth match. Both men bled in rout to Corino winning with an OLD SCHOOL EXPULSION!
Ida Mae Martinez vs. Trinity Denucci: We landed one of these competitive NWA Women’s matches here tonight. Martinez dominated but fell to Denucci’s NEW JERSEY JAM!
Tag Team Match The Heartbreak Express vs. The Armstrongs: A decent tag match that ended “Bullet” bob dove to the floor on Sean Davis, and Sean was unable to beat the count back into the ring.
Buddy Rogers vs. Diamond Dallas Page: Rogers almost immediately locked on the FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE for the win. That win earns Rogers a shot at Mascaras’ World Championship.
Nick Bockwinkel vs. Claudio Castagnoli: Claudio brought his A Game! He stayed in competition with the former World Champion the whole match. He escaped Bockwinkel’s FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK at one point, and Bockwinkel took the Alpamare Waterslide no less than 3 times. Both men constantly reversed the other, but finally Castagnoli hit the RICOLA BOMB to pin Bockwinkel. Bockwinkel stood up furious as Claudio danced from the ring. If Bockwinkel was not enjoying his time in the minors before, he must be absolutely livid now.
Main Event: Non-Title Match Ultramantis Black vs. Bryan Danielson [C]: Ultramantis Black will be the first to take on Danielson as Champion. Mantis managed to mount an offense against the Champion, even hitting his PRAYING MANTIS BOMB! Danielson retaliated with an array of suplexes and the third time he locked on the CATTLE MUTILATION Ultramantis tapped out! What’s this? Nick Bockwinkel just hit the ring. He grabs a surprised Danielson and executes a devastating back suplex. After putting the boots to the Champion he locked on the BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER! Danielson is out. The referee is yelling but Bockwinkel won’t break the hold. Mantis, now, is putting the boots to Danielson as Bockwinkel laughs. Here comes Buddy Rogers! Danielson is in for it now. The Nature Boy grabs a chair before entering the ring. He’s winding up! He blasts Bockwinkel! What is happening? Rogers chases off Ultramantis Black before throwing Bockwinkel from the ring. Rogers is helping up Danielson. What just happened?

Card 177: NWA Legends of Wrestling from Orlando, Fl (January 18)
Non-Televised Matches
Don Leo Jonathon vs. Bepo Mongol with Lou Albano: Jonathon won a hard fought battle with a MORMON SWING!
George Hackenschmidt vs. Al Costello with Red Berry: The Tag Team Champion dominated early, but Heck fought back to win with a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG!
Televised Matches
Welcome to another Monday night of NWA action. Tonight, live on free TV Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka will defend his US Championship for the first time against former World and US Champion Harley Race. The Crusher fights The Masked Superstar as both men attempt to get back into World Title contention. All that plus Tag Team and Women’s action and much more.
Rikidozan vs. The Shiek with Abdullah Farouk: Rikidozan steamrolled The Sheik easily beating him with THUNDEROUS CHOPS! Sheik never even got one move off. This puts Rikidozan next in line for a US Title shot.
Ilio Dipaolo vs. One Man Gang: The Gang and Ilio trade evenly back and forth with Dipaolo only barely having an edge in the match. It wasn’t enough, though, to stop the 747 SPLASH! Gang continues his winning ways.
Sara Del Ray vs. Daizee Haze: Daizee gets a quick win after 3 straight MIND TRIPs!
Tag Team Match The James Gang vs. The Midnight Express with Jim Cornette: B.G. was never tagged in as the Midnights quickly double teamed Kip and hit the VEG-O-MATIC for the win.
Steve Williams vs. Dan Severn: Williams survived an early beating to win with an OKLAHOMA STAMPEDE!
Tag Team Match Red Bastien and Billy Lyons vs. Curt Hennig & Rick Rude with Bobby Heenan: The Reds used their speed to impair Rude early but Hennig tagged in to clean house and pin Lyons with a HENNIG PLEX!
The Crusher vs. Masked Superstar with Jim Cornette: Superstar manages a disqualification win as The Crusher nails him with the ring bell during a brawl on the floor.
Video Footage is shown of Buddy Rogers becoming the #1 Contender for the World Championship on last week’s ECW airing.
Main Event: United States Championship Match Harley Race with Bobby Heenan vs. Jimmy Snuka [C]: Snuka bloodies and easily beats Race after a quick flurry of dropkicks and chops. Heenan is amazed. It doesn’t look like he even thought Race was in danger yet. Snuka now looks forward to fighting Rikidozan, but when will that match take place?

Card 178: NWA ECW from Philadelphia, PN (January 21)
Non-Televised Matches
This was a special afternoon card that also included autograph sessions with top ECW talent. It was held at the local High School gym and not at the arena where the TV tapings took place.
Savage-T with KJ Hill vs. Cousin Luke: T used repeated superkicks to wear down and eventually put away Luke.
Sabu vs. S.D. Jones: Sabu easily pinned Jones after 3 Arabian facebusters. RVD, who was signing at the autograph booth at the time, stood up to shout insults and taunts at Sabu.
Brent Albright vs. Chuck Taylor: The highlight of Taylor’s match was taking his time to show off to threaten a fan. Albright poured on the moves and eventually a bloody Taylor tapped out to a sharpshooter.
Al Snow vs. Brodie Lee: Snow got an easy win after knocking Lee over the head with Head.
Singapore Cane Match Justin Credible vs. The Sandman: Credible tried several shots of the cane and two THAT’S INCREDIBLEs but in the end he used a diving crossbody to pin the Sandman.
The Destroyer vs. Don Muraco: After some good back and forth Muraco gave up to the FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK!

Televised Matches
Welcome to ECW. Tonight we will hear from the new #1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship, Buddy Rogers.
D’Lo Brown vs. Nigel McGuinnes: This is McGuinness’ debut. He traded insults with the crowd before the match. D’Lo came out prepared, and what followed was an amazing back and forth competition that was either man’s to win at any time. After 15 minutes of action a bloody Nigel hit the JAWBREAKER LARIAT to win his debut.
Fritz Von Goering vs. Yukon Eric: A good big man battle. Eric scored a pin after a bodyblock in the turnbuckle.
Buddy Rogers in ring interview: Next week, at the first NWA Clash of the Champions of the year, I will beat Mil Mascaras for the World Heavyweight Championship. That’s all I have to say about that. Now, some of you may be wondering why I helped out Bryan Danielson last week. I assure you it wasn’t for your cheers. It wasn’t for your approval or your satisfaction. I don’t have any love for Danielson either. But he is the reigning top Champion here in ECW. That is, until I bring the World Title back next week. And Bockwinkel, I’m tired of you playing the big shot and acting like you run the entire world of wrestling. I’m the standard bearer in this business. Tonight I’ll team with Danielson against you and Ray Stevens. And I’ll do it just to give you a loss. Everyone around here better remember that The Nature Boy is the man in charge.
Mike Quackenbush vs. Tyler Black: Quack won a solid match with a QUACKENDRIVER III!
Women’s Match Sherri Martel vs. Penny Banner: Banner completely dominated and won with a SUNSET FLIP!
Steve Corino vs. Tiger Mask: Tiger Mask easily won with a jumping spin kick.
Tag Team Match The Young Bucks vs. The Armstrongs: A very competitive match. After a lot of action, Brad pinned Matt after a RUSSIAN LEG SWEEP to give the Bucks their first loss!
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Rob Van Dam: RVD easily ends Claudio’s undefeated streak with a pin after Rolling Thunder!
RVD grabs a mic after the match: Sabu! You’re the nephew of the man who trained me. As far as I’m concerned you are the only opponent here worth proving myself against. If you’re man enough you’ll face me in a hardcore deathmatch next week. I never had a problem beating you in training camp, and the world will see me beat you next week.
Main Event: Tag Team Match Bryan Danielson & Buddy Rogers vs. Ray Stevens & Nick Bockwinkel: Danielson nearly gets a quick pin on Stevens in the early going. The match then was dominated by Rogers. He made Stevens submit to the FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE but Bockwinkel laughed afterwards. He was never tagged in so he was never made to look bad.

Card 179: NWA Legends of Wrestling from Orlando, Fl (January 25)
Non-Televised Matches Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Greg Valentine with Lou Albano: Hacksaw upset the former World Champion with a FLYING SPEAR after Greg had brutalized him the whole match.
Magnum T.A. vs. Bob Roop: Magnum stunned Roop with a BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX to get the pin and win his debut.
Televised Matches
Folks we have an amazing surprise for you tonight. The NWA has been working overseas to bring in new talent. We have signed a man from France who defies description. This man is so humble he insisted on being in the first match tonight, despite his obvious stature. We can’t say anymore, but seeing is believing. You still might not believe what you are about to see.
Andre the Giant vs. Adrian Street with Miss Linda: Everyone from the announcers to Adrian to the entire crowd is stunned by the sight of the Giant. Oddly he is waving and smiling to the crowd, but he’s 7’ 5” if he’s an inch. Some small children in the crowd are actually scared. Street managed minimal offence and even a few covers, but The Giant dominated with a wide variety of moves. After a huge body slam Andre scored the pin. It seemed like he wasn’t even aware he had won, he just kept waving to the fans. Who can stop a man like this?
Antonio Inoki vs. Gorgeous George with Cheri Dupree: Possibly George’s most important match in his career. He not only dominated the former World Champion, Inoki, but he beat him by submission with a SPINNING TOE HOLD!
Tag Team Match The Killer Bees vs. The Mongols with Lou Albano: Brunzell stunned Bepo with a KILLER DROPKICK and scored the surprise pin before any tags were made.
Harley Race with Bobby Heenan vs. The Crusher: Race won with a PILEDRIVER!
Women’s Match Trinity Denucci vs. Ida Mae Martinez: Martinez won with a flying head scissors.
Non-Title Tag Team Match London & Kendrick vs. The Fabulous Kangaroos with Red Berry: An unfortunate debut match for London & Kendrick, taking on the unstoppable Champions. London was almost immediately pinned by Heffernan after a BOOMERANG!
George Hackenshmidt vs. Steve Williams: Williams started strong but submitted to the RUSSIAN BEAR HUG!
Masked Superstar with Jim Cornette vs. Don Leo Jonathan: Part way through the match another new massive man to the NWA arrived. Dressed like the Masked Superstar himself he delivered a beating to Jonathan. The real Superstar tried to capitalize but Don Leo stayed in the match and fought back to win with a MORMAN SWING! Cornette looked unhappy that his plan seemingly failed, but this “Masked Superstar II” still made an impact on his arrival.

Card 180: NWA ECW from Philadelphia, PN (January 28)
Non-Televised Matches
Ivan Koloff vs. Larry Sweeny: Kolloff easily beat Sweeny with a RUSSIAN BEARHUG!
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Youssuf Ishmaelo: A battle of possibly the two hardest names to spell in the NWA. The Turk whipped Claudio to the corner, charged in; Claudio sidestepped, performed a school boy, and immediately got the pinfall.
Diamond Dallas Page vs. Iron Mike DiBiase: Page dominated DiBiase and won with his famed DIAMOND CUTTER! The two shook hands afterwards.
Tag Team Matches The Samoans vs. The Heartbreak Express: Alofa pinned Phil after a SAMOAN DROP! Sean was never tagged in.
Televised Matches
Nick Bockwinkel vs. Konnan: Bockwinkel got back on track with a win over Konnan by FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK!
Brent Albright vs. Killer Kowalski: Kowalski has never had a match in the NWA. In fact he only ever had 14 matches in the old LWF. We’re pleased to have him here in NWA ECW, although Albright looks less than pleased himself. Albright actually dominated, but Kowalski refused to tap to the CROWBAR. When Kowalski finally took control he easily beat Albright with his KOWALSKI CLAW!
Al Snow vs. The Destroyer: Snow surprised everyone by dominating The Destroyer and winning with his SNOW PLOW! It should be pointed out he made liberal use of Head to win the match.
Women’s Match Daize Haze vs. Ida Mae Martinez: Martinez got the win after a flying head scissors.
Justin Credible vs. Nigel McGuinness: McGuinness brutalized the hardcore villain and pounded him with a JAWBREAKER LARIAT before getting the win with the LONDON DUNGEON! This McGuinness is the real deal.
In Ring Segment Sabu comes to the ring with what appears to be referee Bill Alfonso out of uniform.
Alfonso: So Rob Van Dam thinks he can challenge this man. Well, RVD, you aren’t getting your match tonight.
Van Dam came to the ring, taking time to jaw with the crowd on his way: So what is this, you speak for Sabu now?
Alfonso: That’s right, daddy. Sabu doesn’t have time to deal with matters like this. So you don’t get your match tonight. Here’s what’s going to happen. You wanna call somebody out, you do it right. Sabu has challenged you to a series of 5 matches. 5 deathmatches of his choosing. The first will be this weekend at Clash of the Champions, and it will be a tables match. You up for that, baby?
RVD: Alright. Alright, yeah. You’re on. You want to prove who’s the better man? You’re on. Thanks, Sabu, you just made my career.
Tag Team Match The Armstrongs vs. The Vachon Brothers: The returning Vachon Brothers isolated Brad and beat him down. Mad Dog pinned him after a PILEDRIVER, never allowing “Bullet” Bob into the ring. The Armstrongs chance to challenge for the World Tag Team Championship is shut down.
Yukon Eric vs. Savage-T with KJ Hill: Eric destroyed Savage-T and quickly won with his KODIAK KRUNCH!
Tiger Mask vs. Mike Quackenbush: Quackenbush grabbed a mic and stated how honored he was to face Tiger Mask. Tiger Mask bowed in gratitude before the match got started in earnest. Quackenbush gave as good as he got, unleashing his own unique aerial attack against Tiger Mask’s well know offence. He even survived two TIGER SUPLEXES and hit his QUAKENDRIVER III! Tiger Mask finally got the pin after a jumping spin kick and became the number two contender for the World Heavyweight Championship!

Card 181: NWA Clash of the Champions from Los Angeles, CA (January 31)
Terry Gordy vs. Brodie Lee: Lee bloodied Gordy with repeated BIG BOOTS but was eventually pinned after a Bamm Bamm Slam.
Masked Superstar II with Jim Cornette vs. Larry Sharpe: Sharpe came out swinging but quickly fell prey to the BACKBREAKER and was pinned. This new Masked Superstar seems a force to be reckoned with.
Ivan Koloff vs. Claudio Castagnoli: Castagnoli dominated Koloff and got the pin after a scissor kick to the face.
Killer Kowalski vs. Diamond Dallas Page: Kowalski scored almost no offense but it took Page two DIAMOND CUTTERS on top of several Diamond Dreams, Russian Leg sweeps, and swinging neckbreakers!
Tag Team Match The Midnight Express with Jim Cornette vs. The Killer Bees: The Midnight Express were in top form as they had a great technical match with the Bees. The Bees hit all their big moves but the Midnights soldiered through. A bloody Stan Lane hit a SUPERKICK on Blair to secure the win.
Nigel McGuinness vs. Al Snow: An all out war of a match. The usually fun loving Snow would not stand for the typical brutality McGuinness is becoming known for. The two traded back and forth with neither getting the upper hand for long. Finally Snow hit the SNOW PLOW to give Nigel his first loss and himself became number one contender for the World Television Championship!
Backstage Interview Bill Apter: Folks, I’m here with 2 time former US Champion and 2 time former World Champion Harley Race. Mister Race, tonight you face the amazing newcomer, Andre the Giant. What are your thoughts on facing such a man?
Harley Race: The common wrestler might look at a man like Andre and only see their own doom. You stated my accolades quite clearly. You don’t get credentials like that without being simply better than other men. The biggest mistake anyone can make with Andre is to fear him and assume their own loss as a foregone conclusion. No one has considered that despite his great size he is unproven. Untested. He’s had one win against a nobody. Tonight will be different.
Bobby Heenan: This man is wrestling royalty. We don’t fear a man like Andre. The Heenan Family makes a point of beating the unbeatable. Harley, let’s go show the world that this beast is just a flash in the pan.

Andre the Giant vs. Harley Race with Bobby Heenan: An amazing match. Race tried everything. He came close to pinning the mammoth Giant after a diving headbutt, but every time he seemed to get ahead Andre’s size was too much for him. Race was squashed by a BIG SPLASH but Heenan saved him by distracting the referee. Heenan went so far as to attack Andre but was thrown from the ring. Andre then scored the pin after a mere body slam. This has to be a wakeup call for anyone thinking of going against Andre in the future.
Gorgeous George with Cheri Dupree vs. Magnum T.A.: Magnum made easy work of Gorgeous George with a BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX! Magnum, like Andre, is showing he’s a force to be reckoned with.
George Hackenschmidt vs. One Man Gang: The Russian Lion showed his power. He threw the Gang around like nothing. Gang did not go down easily, but Hack pinned him after a knee smash.
Tables Match Sabu with Bill Alfanso vs. Rob Van Dam: Here we go with match one of this best of 5 series. RVD completely dominated this match. Sabu mounted very minimal offence, and was repeatedly thrown into the guardrail and hit by chairs. The referee stopped the match before any tables were broken because Sabu was unable to continue. Van Dam celebrates like he just won the World Heavyweight Championship as Sabu is carried from the ring.
Several wrestlers are backstage discussing rumors that the NWA may cut the ECW brand. The announce team plays down the rumors and rushes us to the next match.
Non-Title Match Nick Bockwinkel vs. Bryan Danielson [C]: Danielson amazed everyone by getting Bockwinkel to submit to the CATTLE MUTILATION in under a minute! Can Bockwinkel’s luck get any worse?
United States Heavyweight Championship Match Rikidozan vs. Jimmy Snuka [C]: A strong match between two fan favorites. It took three SUPERFY LEAPS but Snuka finally kept Rikidozan down to retain his title.
Tag Team Non-Title Match The Fabulous Kangaroos [C] with Red Berry vs. The Road Warriors with Paul Ellering: Hawk pinned Heffernan! After the most intense match these two teams have had to date, Road Warrior Hawk pinned Roy Heffernan after a missed attack in the corner. The Road Warriors finally beat The Fabulous Kangaroos, but the titles weren’t on the line.
Main Event: World Heavyweight Championship Match Buddy Rogers vs. Mil Mascaras [C]: Both men come to the ring to much fanfare. These men are very similar in height, weight, strength, and speed. This should be a great contest for Wrestling’s biggest prize.
Fall One: Mascaras completely dominated the first fall of the match causing Rogers to bleed. One quick counter by Rogers enabled him to hook the FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE and get the fall.
Fall Two: Mascaras almost immediately hit a CROSSBODY ATTACK to take the second fall.
Fall Three: Rogers came on strong in the third fall, but Mascaras hit the FLYING BODYPRESS after a counter to take the final fall and retain his World Heavyweight Championship.

Press Release: NWA International Rumors that the NWA will be scrapping the Eastern Championship Wrestling Territory couldn’t be further from the truth. The NWA is pleased to announce a new Territory presence with NWA International. This brand will hold its matches outside of the United States except when participating in Supercards with the rest of the NWA.
Its top title will be the old LWF International Championship reactivated. Although Ilio Dipaolo was the last Champion, he will not be simply awarded the title. However he is considered the number one contender and when another contender is named the two will face off for the new NWA International Heavyweight Championship!
Due to roster sizes, International will not have its own Tag Team Division. Instead, the two current Tag Divisions will be merged into one. Each month the Tag Division will tour with a different brand. To make things easier, the Women’s Division will do the same thing. For the month of February the Tag Division will tour with International and the Women’s Division with ECW.
The next Supercard will be in March.
