THE FANTASTICS (TOMMY ROGERS & BOBBY FULTON****) defeated DICK THE BRUISER** & THE CRUSHER*** when Fulton pinned Crusher after a Right Hand Punch

EpicDave: A popular win for The Fantastics here on their home turf. They are moving on to the semifinals! I thought Fulton was finished- but the chemistry of Rogers and Fulton is something else- and they are definitely a threat to win the Cup.


FILSINGER CUP SINGLES TOURNAMENT: SECOND ROUND
NICK BOCKWINKEL** defeated ADRIAN ADONIS** with the Bockwinkel Sleeper

EpicDave: Adonis put up a great fight. He almost had Bockwinkel beaten with the Goodnight Irene, his own version of the sleeper hold. But as you all know, the Bockwinkel Sleeper is the ultimate weapon of that style, and tonight he executed it to perfection to secure the victory.


FILSINGER CUP TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT: QUARTERFINALS
THE FABULOUS KANGAROOS (AL COSTELLO & ROY HEFFERNAN) defeated JACK & JERRY******** BRISCO when Costello pinned Jerry with the Boomerang

The two teams went back and forth for several minutes until the Kangaroos managed to isolate Jerry. Jerry took a beating, despite Jack's attempts to rescue him, and the Kangaroos finally finished him off.

EpicDave: Oh, my goodness! The Fabulous Kangaroos have just beaten the reigning World Tag Team Champions! That has some major implications moving forward- and it puts the Kangaroos a step closer to the Filsinger Cup Tournament Championship. And fans- that brings us to tonight's Main Event!


MAIN EVENT: FILSINGER CUP SINGLES TOURNAMENT: SECOND ROUND
BRUNO SAMMARTINO defeated BRYAN DANIELSON***** by submission with the Italian Backbreaker

Bruno was in control from start to finish in this bout. The power moves of Sammartino quickly took the fight out of the Dragon to set up the Italian Backbreaker for a surprisingly easy submission.


EpicDave: Congratulations to Bruno Sammartino! He looked spectacular in tonight's victory as he continues on his quest for the cup. Bruno moves on to the quarterfinals, where he will meet RICK RUDE for a ticket to Denver. The fine folks of Pro Wrestling Mid-America are playing host to tonight's festivities from the beautiful city of St. Louis, Missouri. We've got three tournament matches scheduled for tonight, including an exciting feature matchup pitting THE ROAD WARRIORS against the diabolical team of CACTUS JACK & KEVIN SULLIVAN. The action is going to sizzle here in St. Louis tonight, fans- so relax, grab yourself a cold one, and enjoy the show!


BAD NEWS ALLEN pinned DIAMOND DALLAS PAGE** with the Ghetto Blaster

EpicDave: Welcome to the Heartland, Bad News Allen! And congratulations on a victory in your debut match.


THE VACHON BROTHERS (MAD DOG & BUTCHER) defeated THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS (ROAD DOGG & BILLY GUNN***** w/THE FALLEN ANGEL) when Mad Dog pinned Billy after a Fireball blew up in Billy's face

Things blew up- literally- in the Outlaws' match. The Outlaws and the Vachons went back and forth for several minutes until Billy found himself in trouble at the hand of the Vachons. Fallen Angel tried to assist Billy by preparing a Fireball, but the tactic backfired and Billy was blasted with the flames! The Vachons quickly capitalized and pinned Billy for the victory.

After the match, the Outlaws were infuriated! Road Dogg had words with Fallen Angel and sent her back to the dressing room before tending to his wounded partner.



ANTONINO ROCCA* defeated STAN HANSEN****** by submission with the Argentine Backbreaker


SHAWN MICHAELS pinned RANDY 'MACHO MAN' SAVAGE** with Sweet Chin Music

EpicDave: Holy Georgie Pins! What an upset! Flair was not on his "A" game tonight, and the presence of Cherie Dupre served as further distraction to the Nature Boy. I am flabbergasted- but Gorgeous George is moving on in the tournament and the Nature Boy is headed home.

KEVIN STEEN* pinned TED DIBIASE******* after a Powerbomb onto the Ring Apron


FILSINGER CUP TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT: QUARTERFINALS
KEVIN SULLIVAN & CACTUS JACK*** defeated THE ROAD WARRIORS (HAWK***** & ANIMAL w/PAUL ELLERING) when Cactus pinned Hawk with a Double-Arm DDT

The Main Event was a wild one! The Road Warriors took control early, but Cactus Jack went for broke and launched himself onto Hawk on the arena floor. The collision was spectacular, and left both men dazed. Hawk was first to his feet, and Animal joined in for a Doomsday Device on Cactus. It looked like the Warriors had the match in the bag, but Sullivan hit the ring and interrupted the count, blasting Hawk on the back of the head with what appeared to be a loaded boot. Animal hit the ring to protest, but Cactus picked up Hawk and dumped him on his head for a surprise victory.


EpicDave: How about that! A crazy finish to a crazy night of action here in St. Louis. We have seen it all tonight! CACTUS JACK & KEVIN SULLIVAN are headed to the Semifinals of the Filsinger Cup Tag Team Tournament. And even more surprisingly, RIC FLAIR has been eliminated! And to top it all off, THE NEW AGE OUTLAWS find themselves at odds with their manager, THE FALLEN ANGEL, after the mishap we saw here tonight. What an unpredictable series of events! EpicDave: A fine match between Valentine and Aldis. Aldis really showed a lot of determination in the match and he survived THREE Atomic Skull Crushers before he ran out of gas. Backlund, on the other hand, barely broke a sweat in his victory. Now we move on to the first Tag Team match of the night!

EpicDave: Wow! The Fantastics really showed great chemistry tonight. Their tags were flawless and their double-teams were slick. These guys are on a roll- and now they are in the Finals of the tournament!

FILSINGER CUP SINGLES TOURNAMENT: QUARTERFINALS
NICK BOCKWINKEL*** defeated KEVIN STEEN****** by submission with the Figure-Four Leg Lock

Steen and Bockwinkle tore it up tonight in another instant classic. Steen pulled out all the stops in coming after Bockwinkel, going so far as to repeatedly bite Bockwinkel on the forehead! Steen powerbombed Bockwinkel TWICE onto the ring apron, but Steen was unable to put Bockwinkel away. Bockwinkel fought his way back into the match and skillfully manuevered Steen into the Bockwinkel Sleeper! Steen battled and struggled and finally made his way to the ropes for the hold to be brokwn. But before Steen could regain his senses, Bockwinkel pulled him to the center of the ring and locked in the Figure-Four. This time, there was no escape, and Steen was forced to tap out.

EpicDave: What a war! Steen did everything in his power to battle against Bockwinkel- even channeling his inner ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER, according to one fan. Steen even survived the Bockwinkel Sleeper- which almost never happens- but in the end, Bockwinkel found the math to victory. And now- the semifinals are set! It will be BRUNO SAMMARTINO vs. JOHNNY VALENTINE and BOB BACKLUND vs. NICK BOCKWINKEL this weekend in Denver! And now, fans- are feature match of the night will be a tag team spectacular!


FILSINGER CUP TAG TEAM TOURNAMENT: SEMIFINALS
KEVIN SULLIVAN** & CACTUS JACK* defeated THE STEINER BROTHERS (RICK**** & SCOTTY***) when Cactus pinned Rick with a Double-Arm DDT

The diabolical duo of Sullivan and Cactus worked their evil magic once again tonight in Augusta. Scotty and Sullivan battled to open the match, and both men took plenty of punishment. Scotty found himself in trouble when Sullivan drilled him with the Double Stomp! Rick came in to make the save, and Cactus obliterated Rick with a clothesline that took both men over the top rope and down to the arena floor. Rick crawled back into the ring, where Sullivan nailed Rick with a Double Stomp, setting up Cactus for the Double-Arm DDT and the pin.


EpicDave: KEVIN SULLIVAN & CACTUS JACK come through again! These guys live on the edge- testing their limits and the rule book with evey outing- but they have taken down THE STEINER BROTHERS and THE ROAD WARRIORS to make it to the Finals of the Filsinger Cup Tournament! The show opens with the tune, "O Fortuna" performed live by the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. EPICDAVE stands in the center of the ring, accompanied by VELVET SKY and GORDON SOLIE. The Coliseum is jam-packed with cheering fans. The Filsinger Cup Trophies are displayed at ringside, under the watchful eyes of two bulky security guards wearing white gloves.

EpicDave: Hey, fans! Welcome to the 2023 Tournament of Champions! It is the biggest event of the year as Season 17 of Heartland Championship Wrestling comes to a close. Filsinger Cup Ladies' Tag Team Tournament: Championship Match
MALIA HOSAKA & JAZZ* defeated NICOLE SAVOY***** & MERCEDES MARTINEZ*** when Malia pinned Nicole with a Frankensteiner

Teamwork reigned supreme in the Ladies' Tag final. Malia and Jazz controlled the action from beginning to end and decimated both opponents with double-team attacks. Jazz blasted Nicole with a brutal flurry of power moves, but Nicole somehow survived. A winded Jazz tagged in to Malia, who flipped Nicole with a sweet Frankensteiner for the pin.

Velvet: Congratulations to Malia and Jazz! It's the first Filsinger Cup championship for both these ladies- and they earned it here tonight. Those two teams battled for all of 2023 for the tag titles- and now they will battle one more time in a Tag Team Title match!


Filsinger Cup Tag Team Tournament: Championship Match
THE FANTASTICS (TOMMY ROGERS & BOBBY FULTON**) defeated KEVIN SULLIVAN* & CACTUS JACK when Rogers pinned Sullivan with a double-team Press Slam & Splash

The Fantastics set the tone for this match in the early going, and controlled the pace from start to finish. The high speed and quick tags of Rogers and Fulton prevented Sullivan and Cactus from doing anything diabolical. The end came quickly, as the Fantastics came up with a double-team out of nowhere on Sullivan to set up the finish before Cactus could interfere.

Solie: THE FANTASTICS have won the 2023 Filsinger Cup Tag Team Tournament! Congratulations to TOMMY ROGERS & BOBBY FULTON for an incredible victory indeed. In the sport of basketball, one may refer to that as the fast-break offense. The Fantastics are so smooth and have such chemistry that any victory is a mere three seconds away. That dynamic charisma has made them without question the most popular tag team in the sport!

EpicDave: And now, the number one contenders for the NWA World Tag Team Championship as the reward for winning the cup. And now- it's time to check out the finals of the ladies' tournament!

CHEERLEADER MELISSA pinned SUMIE SAKAI*** with the Air Raid Crash

Despite her underdog status, Sumie gave it all she had against the heavily favored Melissa. But Sumie just didn't have enough, as the powerful veteran Melissa dumped Sumie with a brutal Samoan Drop that nearly broke her in half. Melissa was relentless, and picked up Sumie for a vicious Air Raid Crash for a decisive win.

Velvet: Congratulations to CHEERLEADER MELISSA! My girl has won the Filsinger Cup for the FIFTH time! No two ways about it- Melissa is a legend.

EpicDave: Straight up. Melissa is the most decorated wrestler in the history of the Heartland- and tonight she showed us why. And now, fans- we take you to the Main Event of the evening- for the men's Filsinger Cup!

BRUNO SAMMARTINO* defeated BOB BACKLUND***** by submission with the Italian Backbreaker

It was a highly anticipated showdown between two of the finest champions in wrestling history. As expected, the action went back and forth for the first several minutes. But Bruno picked up the aggressiveness, surprising Backlund and many of the observers at ringside with a turn to more roughhouse tactics. Bruno pitched Backlund out of the ring, and surprisingly, Bruno whipped Backlund with a television cable on the arena floor! The referee gave Bruno a stern warning, but allowed the match to continue. Bruno was able to weaken Backlund with a paralyzing Bearhug, setting up a submission victory by way of the Italian Backbreaker.


EpicDave: Congratulations to BRUNO SAMMARTINO! Bruno is the 2023 Men's Filsinger Cup Tournament winner! I think many of us are surprised by some of the tactics which Bruno used to get the job done- but as they say- "it ain't HOW it got done, it's WHAT got done". And for the first time, Sammartino wins the Cup! Congratulations once again to Bruno, and to CHEERLEADER MELISSA, THE FANTASTICS, and the team of MALIA HOSAKA & JAZZ, your 2023 Filsinger Cup winners!
