Last night was a total disaster. No excuse to give the Tribe momentum by taking the night off and putting them only 2 games back. This is the series they should have put them in the rear view mirror, not allow them to creep closer. Unacceptable. Come on guys, JV can't pitch every damn day to bail your asses out!

Tigers pick up Delmon Young from the Twins. Might mean the end of Magglio in Detroit...

Although his stats aren't as good as last year's (I think that is partly due to not having as much protection around him in the lineup as Morneau, Mauer, and Span were among the Twins who all missed significant amounts of time this season due to injuries,) this could turn out to be a great trade for Detroit which benefits the Tigers for many years as Young is only 25 years old.
Since the Twins are in Detroit today, I wonder if Young makes his Tigers debut tonight?

Yup, Young is in the #3 spot tonight. Rhymes sent down, Mags safe for now.

Jim Thome hits his 599th and 600th Homeruns! Hell yeah, and congrats to Thome, sorry it had to be at the expense of the Tigers.

Sucks to lose, but major props to the fans in the D for giving a member of the hated Minnesota Twins a standing ovation for achieving the 600-HR milestone!

This is the reason I'm tempering my enthusiasm. Tigers had a chance to BURY the Tribe, and here we are today 5-5 in the last 10 games and only 2 up. 3 1/2 over Chicago who's a total mess. I say tonight's game is a must win. 2 games up is still a big lead in baseball. 1 game up and things are gonna start getting uncomfortable.
I was a supporter of them resigning Dombro and the skip. I thought the timing was right, they just didn't get the results they wanted and needed during that run with the Indians. If they miss the playoffs, I do think Leyland should go. I think he is a great manager, but sometimes even the great ones wear out their welcome. If they hang on and make the playoffs, then keep him.

Well here we are a few days later 3 only two now - games up on the Tribe. Still a big lead all things considered, but still too close for comfort. I heard a local radio host speculate yesterday that Leyland is managing the team with the idea that this division is going to come down the to the last few games of the season. I'm inclined to agree with that.
39 games left and 27 of those are against division opponents. Last series of the year -- vs. the Indians.
Get your popcorn ready!

We're only 2 up on the Tribe, and they've played 4 less games, so essentially it's a dead heat right now. Tigers are again flirting with disaster because they can't take care of business against weaker teams like the Twins and White Sox. Valverde totally f'ed this one up last night - it's amazing how lights out he is in save situations and how much he's not in non-save situations (last night was a tie game going into the 9th).
Big series coming up against Cleveland. If the Tigers don't take 2/3, we're in deep trouble.

What a day to wake up a Tigers fan. 4 1/2 up on the Tribe following one of the BEST endings you'll ever see to a baseball game (and calls you'll ever hear).
STRONG!
