Now that Magnum T.A. versus Rick Rude match looked like one helluva match to have rolled, very cool seeing Rick Rude advance as is Bobby Eaton in a very nice upset over Steve Williams...

Thank CC. Allen v. Rude was a lot of fun for sure. Regarding Eaton and Williams, Dr. Death was just never able to overcome Cornette's constant interference.
George Hackenschmidt (13) v. Larry Zbyszko (52)
Solid heat for Larry Zbyszko as he comes to the ring. Zbyszko gets into Hackenschmidt’s face during the introduction and a shoving match starts. The referee calls for the bell and Zbyszko is able to quickly apply a Larryland Sleeper that forces Hackenschmidt to the floor. Zbyszko is able to maintain control at ringside and then slows the match with an abdominal stretch and then moves to another Larryland Sleeper that forces his opponent to the floor again. Zbyszko hits a backbreaker and gets a two and half count (R4/P2). An abdominal stretch forces Hackenschmidt to grab the ropes (R6/P3). It is all Zbyszko with a series of spinning back kicks and a knee smash. Zbyszko tosses Hackenschmidt to the floor and when the Russian powerhouse regains the ring Zbyszko plants him with a PILEDRIVER for the dominating win (R4/P5). Up Next: Giant Baba v. Bob Roop

Agreed Kamala. One of the reasons I started this tournament was to get to use some of the cards that I have not used on a regular basis. Zbyszko is one of those cards.
Giant Baba (12) v. Bob Roop (53)
A handshake starts this one off and the fans show their appreciation. Roop struggles to find a way to deal with Baba’s size but gains the advantage at ringside when he counters Baba’s double axe handle at ringside with blow to the midsection. Back inside, Roop hits a SHOULDER BREAKER and gets the three count (R2/P3). The fans are stunned. Up Next: Don Leo Jonathan v. The Sheik

Thanks for reading Kamala & CC. Roop over Baba was a big one for sure.
Don Leo Jonathan (21) v. The Sheik w/Abdullah Farouk (44)
These two have had classic battles around the world and now meet in the opening round of the tournament. Jonathan uses his size and agility to dominate the early action including an atomic drop for a 1 count (R7/P1). Sheik bails to the floor after another atomic drop and Jonathan comes out after his opponent but Sheik counterattacks and takes over the match. Sheik gets his first one count after a lengthy sadistic hammerlock (R8/P2) before moving into a CAMEL CLUTCH. Jonathan powers out (R7/P3) and Sheik takes the match to the floor once again ramming Jonathan’s face into the steel rails. Jonathan is busted open and the referee calls for the disqualification. The fans think the call is premature but are treated to a wild post match brawl as both men exchange blows back to the dressing room. Up next: Pepper Gomez v. Jim Londos

Pepper Gomez (28) v. Jim Londos (37)
Both men are out to solid ovations. Handshake starts the action off and Londos takes the early advantage and picks up a one count after a crotch lift and slam (R8/P3). Jim Londos tosses Gomez to the floor and comes outside running Gomez into the steel rails and is disqualified. The fans are not pleased with the result but Gomez is onto the next round. Up Next: Nick Bockwinkel v. Tiger Mask

Two back-to-back DQ endings with one not a surprise in the Sheik being disqualified, while it was surprising that Jim Londos ended up with the DQ Loss, Solid Stuff none the less...

Thanks CC. DQ finishes are always a concern in a single elimination tournament.
Nick Bockwinkel (5) w/Bobby Heenan v. Tiger Mask (60)
Great ovation for Tiger Mask as he charges to the ring. We get a solid weasel chant from ringside and Heenan loses his mind. Bockwinkel dominates the bout from the outset. At one point Bockwinkel drops Mask throat first across the ring rails. Mask is able to block a kick to the ribs and then explodes with a series of lightening fast kicks and then hits a jumping spin kick and covers. 1, 2, ¾ count (R4/P3). Mask then plants Bockwinkel with a piledriver and the referee counts three (R4/P4). The crowd erupts as Mask leaps to the top of the buckles in celebration as Heenan pulls his hair out at ringside. The top half of the draw ends in a monster upset. Up next: Lou Thesz v. Jushin Liger
