Who do you think will get the Republican nomination to challenge Obama in the Election of 2012? In terms of a full scale campaign, Mitt Romney is best positioned for the long haul. He has considerable financial and ground resource advantages, along with a team of advisers straight out of the Bush administration. This connects him with the right lobbyists and influence peddlers. Party officials will endorse him and coordinate opportunities from the inside well beyond New Hampshire and Iowa. He'll not only have the most money, but also the right people in place to grease the wheel for him. It's all been planned out well in advance. There is a logic behind why long shot candidates compete even though their campaigns are destined to flop out after the initial primaries. Candidates like Bachmann, Cain, Gingrich and Paul make money off increasing their name value for future ventures. The process creates the equivalent of millions of dollars worth of 'brand name advertising' through televised debates and a place in the media circus. It increases their market value for books, newsletters, seminars, public appearances, TV gigs, etc. In the grand scheme of things, they don't need to win the election in order to win financially, just increase their name recognition before now larger target audiences for whatever they want to sell in the future. Some candidates (ie. Al Sharpton, Ralph Nader, Jeese Jackson, etc) have made an artform out of mounting losing state/national campaigns for future profit.

Romney is the logical winner. It seems like the typical where there's various front runners while the winner just sits back for a bit before taking over closer to the actual vote.

Romney is the logical winner. It seems like the typical where there's various front runners while the winner just sits back for a bit before taking over closer to the actual vote. The DNC seems to concur. They're already launching negative ads against Romney well before this Primary stage is over. As in the video below, PACs can use the old footage/different past positions gimmick against most any politician. It's a very effective technique, and so hard to rebuttal a blitz of these when seen in mass example. Paid for by the Democratic National Committee Mitt Flip Romney vs Mitt Flop Romney 'The story of two men trapped in one body'Mitt Romney, unparalleled flip-flopper, has proved he is his own toughest opponent on the issues. The one thing Mitt and Mitt can agree on? That they want to be president—so Romney will say and do whatever it takes to get elected, no matter how contradictory.
"Experts are predicting kind of a tough fight between Romney and his biggest ideological opponent: Mitt Romney from four years ago. Those guys don't agree on anything."

Newt is great for media ratings but he won't get the nod. Too bad we can't just drop Obama now and hold the vote between Romney and Newt.

i'll say Romney, but there are so many idiots that have invaded the party it's scary and you never know. The same people cheering him last week when asked about his affairs were the ones trying to get Clinton out of office, saying thing's like , 'how do we explain this to our children?" Newt is completely unelectable in a general election. His poll ratings among Independants and Democrats for ever since he became Speaker have been basically 0%. His negative ratings are always over 50%. Plus he can always be counted on to say divisive things. If he ran against Obama it would be a landslide for Obama. The capper is when i hear ' social conservative's are trying to decide between Gingrich and Santorum." Really? REALLY? I'll have to read up where being a serial cheater is Socially Conservative. That Romney! The 42 years married and not a hint of scandal is just not convincing!

It blows my mind that anyone could vote or support Obama. You guys know he is responsible for the current housing crisis, right? If you are a home owner who is under water, can't sell or stuck in an adjustable and can't out so you had to foreclose (or might have to) and you still think Obama is a good president then you are delusional. Blunt, but a fact.

I don't usually speak on the board about politics because there's not much to discuss usually. You're either a Republican, or Democrat and most people don't change after the age of 30 but this is a cool poll so I'll give a few thoughts.
The Republicans have put together probably the weakest field of candidates that I can remember for the 2012 election. I don't see any of these candidates beating Obama. I don't think any of the politicians on either side has done much good lately. It seems like they're more interested in slinging mud at each other rather than actually compromising to get stuff done.
One thing I will say about elections is that people need to remember is that voting in your local elections for members of the Senate and House of Reps is usually more important than who you vote for the Presidency.
More people are involved in Congress and those are the people who come up with the proposals and bills that can change laws/policies in this country. That's where your vote can really enact the most change.
You hear in many State of the Union addresses (including Obama's latest one) where they say "Send me a bill that does....and I'll sign it" Or something to that effect. Congress is where you need to put a lot of thought into who you're voting for.
But to answer the poll question, I'm going to say I think Romney will win the GOP nomination.

Both sides are more interested in beating the other side than they are of actually accomplishing something. And both sides will crap all over me and you if they think that's what it takes to beat the other side.
