Two matches to close out the 3rd round. Quarterfinals start tomorrow.
Mil Mascaras (3) v. Blackjack Mulligan (19) It is text book contest of the power wrestler against the high flyer. Mulligan’s willingness to bend the rules serves him well early on. The referee goes down from a Mulligan deathjump and things become unglued. Mulligan repeated assaults Mascaras at ringside drawing huge heat especially when he makes use of a steel chair. By the time the official recovers (12 moves) Mascaras could have been likely counted out twice and pinned at least two times! With the referee back to his senses, Mulligan applies his CLAWHOLD to the battered Mexican all-star and Mascaras is out of the tournament (R7/P7). The fans are not pleased.
Harley Race (22) v. Dan Severn (38) Both men are focused from the moment they enter the arena so the fans are expecting some intense action. Race gains the first upper hand and forces Severn to the floor with a diving headbutt. Outside, both men trade blows with Race getting the better of it. Back in the ring Race hits a PILEDRIVER. 1, 2, ½ count (R7/P6). PILEDRIVER. 1, 2, ¾ count (R8/P7). PILEDRIVER (R7/P8). No kick out this time and Race is onto the quarterfinals is convincing fashion. Severn has no offense in the ring whatsoever.

Thanks for the comments Nick and Kamala.
Road Warrior Hawk (17) w/Ellering v. Steve Williams (24)
These two have been both foes and allies in the past during their journeys both in North America and Japan. The fans are ready for power, power and more power. Hawk is impressive with a gorilla press slam for a pin fall attempt early on (R8/P2) but Williams is just as impressive when he avoids a deathjump attempt seconds later and the Road Warrior crashes to the mat. Williams covers for a ½ count (R9/P2). Williams takes over and a football tackle spills Hawk to the floor. Outside, both men trade blows. The referee comes outside and gets taken out but a wild lariat from Dr. Death. The brawl continues but the referee calls for the bell and has disqualified Williams. Hawk is onto the semi-finals.

Thanks for the comments Nick although I am not sure how awesome back to back DQ wins are. Hawk has been lucky for sure against some tough opponents.
Rob Van Dam (5) w/Bill Alfonso v. Terry Gordy (13) Gordy’s straight head brawling and power against the unorthodox offense of RVD made for an interesting quarterfinal matchup. Both men struggle early on to get something going. Van Dam counters a back drop with a piledriver while Gordy wins a brawl on the floor. Van Dam is able to counter out of powerbomb and shocks Gordy with a body scissors cradle for a 1 count (R10/P2). Van Dam then waves off Alfonso who is calling for the Van Daminator and chooses a FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH instead. 1, 2, kick out (R6/P5). Van Dam scales the corner quickly and hits a second FIVE STAR FROG SPLASH for another two count (R8/P6). The action goes to the floor and Van Dam runs Gordy into the ring rails head first. Gordy is busted open and the referee calls for the disqualification. The highest remaining seed is gone and Gordy is onto the semi-finals for the second straight tournament.

Hawk and Gordy moving on, but both via disqualification. I agree with Kamala in that anyone can win this. I'm still picking Harley Race to take it.

Thanks for the feedback Kamala and Crue. The tournament has become wide open and Race is a solid pick has been gaining momentum as he gets deeper into the draw.
Nick Bockwinkel (7) w/Bobby Heenan v. Greg Valentine (50) w/Captain Lou Albano
The Hammer got by some big names to make it to the quarter-finals and was looking to knock off the defending champion to make it to the semi-finals. The fans are all over both Albano and Heenan early on. The action in the ring starts quickly as Bockwinkel sends Valentine into the corner but misses his tackle leading to a roll up by the Hammer for 1 count (R11/P3). Valentines connects with a deathjump smash but a second one finds Bockwinkel’s boot. Valentine counters a backdrop with a piledriver but then Bockwinkel rolls clear of a deathjump smash and Valentine crashes to the mat giving Bockwinkel his first pin attempt (R7/P4). Bockwinkel connects with a deathjump clothesline and then works over Valentine on the floor. The fans can sense the end and Bockwinkel locks in a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Valentine is able to make it to the ropes (R9/P8). A piledriver spills Valentine to the floor. Bockwinkel follows but is distracted by Albano which allows Valentine to attack from behind. Valentine chops and forearms Bockwinkel from corner to corner. Bockwinkel tries to counter with a Boston Crab with little success. Outside, Valentine takes a chair to Bockwinkel’s leg and the fans are outraged. FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Heenan causes a distraction and saves the match for Bockwinkel. Valentine goes up top. Deathjump. Bockwinkel moves! 1, 2, Albano distracts the referee. Things break down and it becomes a slugfest in and out of the ring. Bockwinkel runs Valentine into the ring post busting him open and the referee has seen enough. Three straight disqualifications in the quarterfinals and the defending champion is out!

WOW! 3 DQ's in a row!! Have you ever had a match in your tournaments that have ended in a double DQ? Had one when I was doing a tournament. Forgot who it was but had one wrestler that made it to a next round without even fighting via no opponent. Will it be a DQ again next match? Only the dice will tell.
