I love the Heartbreak Express but the Wild-Eyed Southern Boys had them outclassed. I expect Rich and Smothers to make a strong run at the tag titles.
I am also rooting for a long title reign from April Hunter.
Great stuff going on here.

Thanks for reading and replying aceldamas (and everyone else)!
My dice LOVE April Hunter, it seems. She was on the verge of losing every match she was in during the championship tournament only to pull off a dramatic (if heel-ish and dirty) win!
I also really like Rich & Smothers as a tag team.
I can definitely see them going far.

New Era Wrestling: Card 4- New Haven, CT:
The introduction video is played and we open up the show in a much larger venue than normal, with the lovely Cindy Shepherd standing in the middle of the ring, waiting to do her duties...
"Mad" Mike Cantrell: "Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to another... and special... edition of New Era Wrestling! Tonight we come to you not from N.E.W. Headquarters in Hartford, Connecticut, but rather from the arena in New Haven!"
Frankie Saddler: "That's right, Mike! In order to accommodate all the fans who wanted to be here for our World Champion's first defense, A.J. Costello and General Manager Rick Murphy moved the show down to the coast and into this much, much larger location. I've never seen so many wrestling fans in one place, Mike!"
Cantrell: "Nor have I, Frankie, but if this is any indication... I'd say the sky's the limit for N.E.W.!"
Saddler: "You said it! Also, we need to point out that the Television Championship is also being defended on tonight's card..."
Cantrell: " We've got a full night of action for you, folks, so let's waste no more time getting to it. Here's Cindy with the introductions..."
Our lovely (and very dolled-up) Miss Cindy Shepherd is in the ring, mic in hand, making the introductions for our opening bout...
* Nigel McGuiness w/ Johnny Saint v. Harker Dirge-This one starts off with a bang and keeps going from there! It's a hard-fought match, but Dirge gets hit by the JAWBREAKER LARIAT and just can't recover, getting easily pinned afterwards. The winner of the match: Nigel McGuiness!
Cantrell: "A good way to open our show!"
Saddler: "Strong showing by the man from London, England!"
Cantrell: "All I can say is 'Wow'! I think Dirge is still down after that Lariat!"
Saddler: "Nearly took his head clean off his shoulders, Mike. I'm predicting big things for Mr. McGuiness, tonight. You heard it here first, folks. Future champion."
Cantrell: "He keeps up with performances like that, Frankie... you just might be right. Back to the ring..."
*The Red Army (Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov) w/ Nikita Breznikov v. Buff Bagwell & Chris Candido w/ Tammy Lynn Sytch- The Russians are just too well-organized and too well-lead and it seems that nothing Bagwell and Candido can do is good enough to swing the match in their favor. To their credit, Bagwell and Candido manage to hold on until the closing minutes of the match, when Candido is suddenly caught in a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG by Volkoff and forced to submit! The winners of the match: The Red Army!
The Russians celebrate their victory and leave the ring, where an irate Buff Bagwell confronts his partner and soon things go from heated words to the exchanging of blows! The worn-down and battered Candido is in no shape to take on Bagwell, however, and is soon left in a heap in the middle of the ring, with a distraught Tammy trying to use her own body to shield him from further damage! An irate (and very smug) Buff Bagwell then makes his way to the locker room area.
Cantrell: "Mr. Bagwell seems awfully full of himself for a man who just lost a match, Frankie."
Saddler: "Well, technically, it was Candido who threw in the towel. Bagwell has a point, I think. Candido should have just held on a little longer and they could have come away with a draw. A draw is much less humiliating than a loss, Mike."
Cantrell: "Maybe so... but I think we just saw the opening shots of a war here tonight, and it wasn't the Russians who fired first!"
Saddler: "I'm with you. Nobody's had the last word in that situation just yet. I'm sure Tammy will have something to say at least."
Cantrell: "Most likely. Well, we've only just begun and we've already had quite a dramatic night for you folks! Let's go back to the ring, now that Tammy and Chris have made it back to the back..."
In the ring, our lovely ring announcer soon informs us of our next bout...
*Jim Powers v. "Ravishing" Rick Rude w/ Bobby "the Brain" Heenan- Rude takes control early and just never lets up, getting an easy victory with the RUDE AWAKENING somewhere around eight minutes into the match. The winner of the match: "Ravishing" Rick Rude!
The victorious Rude and his manager make their way over to the interview stage and join our broadcasters, then.
Cantrell: "Congratulations on the win, Mister Rude. Looks like you hardly brokae a sweat out there!"
Bobby Heenan: "Of course he didn't even break a sweat, you humanoid! This is the one and only "Ravishing" Rick Rude! You know, at first, we were insulted-"
Rude: "Downright insulted!"
Heenan: "Indeed! Downright insulted when we were offered tonight's match with that loser Powers! But then, genius that I am, smoothed things over and we realized two things. One: The "fans" of New Era Wrestling haven't yet had a taste of what one Mister Rick Rude has to offer and two: This would be an easy payday for a wrestler of Rude's caliber! So we took the match, here in front of our largest audience yet! Am I a genius, or what? I'll answer that for you: Of course I am. I'm Bobby 'the Brain' Heenan! Good day to you ham and eggers! I've got another match to prepare for!"
With that, Heenan and Rude make their exit.
Cantrell: "Always a pleasure to be joined by the Heenan Family, right Frankie?"
Saddler: "I'm sure it could have been worse, Mike."
Cantrell: "That's true. It could have been Albano and company! Anyway: back to the action!"
Introductions are made for our next match...
*Sara Del Rey w/ Daizee Haze v. Penny Banner- The ladies eye each other warily for a good long while before finally locking up, and our match is underway! The combatants are pretty evenly matched for the most part, trading offense and near-falls for the duration, but Del Rey prevails and manages to get Banner with a BUTTERFLY POWERSLAM in the final seconds of the match, and scores a clean pinfall victory. The winner of the match: Sara del Rey!
Before the ladies leave the ring, Del Rey and Banner shake hands and hug as Daizee gets the house mic and makes her own announcement:
Haze: "April Hunter! I have a message for you from A.J. Costello and Rick Murphy! That message? Your next match is going to once again be against me! I'm not through with you yet! Not even close!"
The ring is cleared in short order after that.
Saddler: "Strong words for Women's Champion April Hunter from Daizee Haze, Mike!"
Cantrell: "I wouldn't want to get on the bad side of either of those ladies, Frankie, never mind the tow we just saw in that stellar match! Great performance by both Sara Del Rey and Penny Banner."
Saddler: "It sure was. It makes me wonder, though..."
Cantrell: "About what?"
Saddler: "Well, if Daizee were to somehow unseat our Women's Champion... could her friendship with Sara Del Rey survive? Would Sara get a shot at the title? Can there ever truly be such a thing as friendship between two people who are both after the same title?"
Cantrell: "Wow. Deep thoughts, Frankie. We'll just have to wait and see, I guess. Well, it looks like Cindy is already in the ring, ready to bring us to our next match..."
The lovely Cindy Shepherd is, indeed, back in the center of the ring, ready to bring us to...
*"Superstar" Bill Dundee w/ Jimmy Hart v. Claudio Castagnoli (Television Champion) w/ Ted DiBiase- Once again, Jimmy Hart looks a bit nervous and apprehensive going into this one. At ringside, World Champion Ted DiBiase is wearing a smart suit and carrying a black briefcase. In the ring, Claudio starts off strong, easily getting the upper hand on the "Superstar" and holding onto it for most of the match, although Dundee manages a short-lived comeback at one point. In the end, all it takes is one NEUTRALIZER from the champion, with Hart being too intimidated by Ted DiBiase's presence to interfere to get Castagnoli a chance to cover and get an easy three count! The winner of the match and STILL the N.E.W. Television Champion: Claudio Castagnoli!
Cantrell: "Bad luck for the Superstar in that one, Frankie, as I doubt Rick Murphy is going to give him another shot at the Television title without turning his luck around and earning it, anyway."
Saddler: "That's true, Mike. That's the thing about the Television Title, though. All those defenses are going to mean you'll be facing one superstar after another in rapid succession. Maybe even a different man every other week!"
Cantrell: "That's a good point. Say, were you thinking what I was thinking through-out that whole match?"
Saddler: "I don't know, Mike. I kept wondering what was in that briefcase the World Champ was carrying, though."
Cantrell: "Same here, Frankie. Same here. Well, ladies and gentlemen, we have one more match for you before we get to tonight's Main Event, so let's not waste any more time!"
As usual, the lovely Cindy Shepherd is in the ring, making the announcements for...
*The Men of Character (Ilio DiPaolo & " Iron" Mike DiBiase) v. The Backseat Boys (Johnny Kashmere & Trent Acid)- A very good showing by Kashmere and Acid, but they just can't hang on in the face of the other team's combined efforts for very long. The end of the match comes at a little over eleven minutes in when DiPaolo sets up Kashmere to take a TOP ROPE KNEE DROP from DiBiase, who makes a quick cover and gets the win even with Acid doing his best to break it up, only to get ran off by DiPaolo! The winners of the match: The Men of Character!
Our commentating team is then joined by a surprise guest: Women's Champion "Big Red" April Hunter!
Cantrell: "Welcome to the broadcast position, Miss Hunter... or should I say 'Champ'?"
April Hunter: "You can call me 'Champ'. I've earned it. I don't care what anybody says, be it Nora "the Crybaby" Greenwald or Daizee Haze, either. I'm the champion and if they don't like it, they can come take the belt from me! Oh, wait. Daizee already tried, didn't she? I wonder what exactly she did to secure herself another shot at me!"
Saddler: "Looking good, as always, April."
Hunter: "Thanks, Frankie. You're too kind."
Saddler: "I'm with you, April... I wonder how Daizee got that rematch. You've already beaten her... twice, now? Once in the tournament and again just a few short weeks ago, yes?"
Hunter: "That's right, Frankie. I'm going to make a deal of my own with Murphy and Costello. After I beat Daizee...again... I want someone new to face!"
Cantrell: "Well, April, the ranks of women eager for a shot at your title are pretty deep. I'm sure General Manager Rick Murphy can find someone willing to face you. Nora Greenwald, perhaps?"
Hunter: "Her? Again? I already went through her like... like a hot knife through butter during the championship tournament. I know I can beat her again. Line them all up, for all I care. I'm a fighting champion!"
Saddler: "Yes you are!"
Cantrell cuts Frankie a sour look as we go to ringside for the introductions for tonight's Main Event...
*King King Bundy w/ Bobby 'the Brain' Heenan v. "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase (World Heavyweight Champion) w/ Claudio Castagnoli- This time it's Claudio carrying the briefcase, but Bobby Heenan doesn't look at all concerned about the presence of the Television Champion at ringside. The match is fast and furious, rough and tumble, but it takes only ten minutes or so for the champion to get Bundy in a challenging predicament. Once the big man is down, the champion climbs to the top turnbuckle and takes all the time in the world to gloat before leaping down and catching the big man in a perfect cross body block, taking him down and getting a quick three count and the win! Claudio joins the triumphant champion in the ring to celebrate... suspiciously leaving the briefcase on the outside of the ring. A dejected-looking King Kong Bundy and his manager Bobby the Brain make their way to the locker room area... and Heenan is, quite curiously, carrying off the mysterious briefcase! The winner of the match and still the N.E.W. World Champion: "Million Dollar Man" Ted DiBiase!
Cantrell: "Quite the victory for World Champion ted DiBiase, over an opponent that most men fear getting into the ring with, too! Hey! Did you see what I think I saw?"
Saddler: "I didn't see anything but the champion and his fellow member of the Gentlemen's Club celebrating a hard-fought victory, Mike!"
Cantrell: "I don't know, Frankie... I think Heenan just made of with DiBiase's briefcase!"
Saddler: "I don't know what you mean, Mike. I didn't see a thing."
Cantrell: "I smell a rat, Frankie! Well, folks, that about wraps it up for another edition of New Era Wrestling! We'll see you all next week!"
Saddler: "G'night, folks!"
*the End*

To their credit, Bagwell and Candido manage to hold on until the closing minutes of the match, when Candido is suddenly caught in a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG by Volkoff and forced to submit! I really like this match and result, the Red Army winning is really cool. Bagwell snapping on Candido is really intense and it'll be fun to see what's next between those two...

New Era Wrestling: Card 5- Hartford, CT:
Once again we get through the introductory video and credits to focus on the lovely Miss Cindy Shepherd standing in the ring, ready to get the show started.
"Mad" Mike Cantrell: "Welcome once again, everyone, to New Era Wrestling coming to you directly from N.E.W. Headquarters in historic Hartford, Connecticut!"
Frankie Saddler: "That's right, Mike! Once again here at home after that special card down in New Haven!"
Cantrell: "What a card it was, too! We've seen all of our titles defended at least once per the contractual obligations with no one changing hands, Frankie. What do you think of that?"
Saddler: "I think it goes to show the caliber of champions here in N.E.W., Mike. Still... competition is fierce here. It's only a matter of time before we see history!"
Cantrell: "Well said. Speaking of history, tonight we'll get to see a bit of that! Aside from the North American championship being defended, we have a Top Contender's match with the winner going on to face Television Champion Claudio Castagnoli right here, next week! Let's get to the action..."
We join our lovely ring announcer mid-ring as she introduces...
* Joyce Grable v. Trinity DeNucci-Trinity starts off strong, taking the advantage early and really working over her opponent, but everything changed once things went to the outside! Joyce narrowly avoided getting her head rammed into the announcer's table but manages to return the favor on Trinity! After that, the action went back into the ring where a still-woozy Trinity fell victim to a GIANT SWING by Grable who then covered her opponent for a quick (and easy) three count and the win! Winner of the match: Joyce Grable!
Cantrell: "Looks like one Miss Joyce Grable is making a statement here tonight about her placement in the championship tournament..."
Saddler: "...and she's here to prove that her performance there was a fluke, maybe?"
Cantrell: "Certainly seems so. Looks like Women's Champion April Hunter has one more person gunning for her. Better keep one eye open at all times!"
Saddler: "That's what it means to be the champ, though: you always have that bull's-eye on your back once you get that gold, Mike!"
Cantrell: "So true. Great opening bout, though! Let's see what's next!"
Back in the ring, Cindy Shepherd once again makes the introductions. This time we get...
* Delirious v. Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana- A very fast-paced and exciting match sees Delirious in charge early, with Colt making a spirited comeback in the closing moments of the match and hitting the COLT .45 not once but TWICE, and getting a very rewarding three count victory over the man from The Edge of Insanity! Winner of the match: Colt "Boom Boom" Cabana!
Cantrell: "A tough fight and a win for a very happy Colt Cabana, I'm sure!"
Saddler: "I like this Cabana kid, Mike."
Cantrell: "he's definitely an eager competitor, that's for sure."
Saddler: "One to watch, Mike. I said it first, folks. Just watch."
Cantrell: "Noted. Okay, it looks like we're ready to go back to the ring for our next bout..."
The lovely Cindy Shepherd brings us our next competitors...
* Miracle Violence Connection ("Dr. Death" Steve Williams & Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy) v. PG-13 (Wolfie D. & J.C. Ice) w/ Jimmy Hart- This match is firmly in the hands of Williams and Gordy from the onset. We don't even get a full five minutes inot the bout when an overmatched Wolfie D decides that discretion is the better part of valor and heads to the back, soon accompanied by his partner and manager, forcing the referee to make the count and awarding the victory to the team that actually stayed in the ring... Winners of the match via count-out: Miracle Violence Connection!
Cantrell: "What was that?"
Saddler: "Um... Jimmy Hart's men taking a powder?"
Cantrell: "He's not having much luck here lately, huh?"
Saddler: "No. No, he's not."
Cantrell: "Well, running away from a match won't turn your luck around!"
Saddler: "You really think PG-13 had a chance in that match, Mike?"
Cantrell: "Well... no. They could have at least tried, though. I wonder what's next..."
Saddler: "Only one way to find out! Let's go to the ring!"
Our lovely ring announcer with the golden voice is once more waiting in the ring to do her part, bringing us...
* The Hillbillies (Hillbilly Jim & Cousin Luke) v. The Tolos Brothers (Chris & John Tolos) - This rematch was specifically requested by Rick Murphy and A.J. Costello. Jim starts off against John and right from the start, it's a brawl! Jim takes advantage and gets things going his way, but shortly after tagging in Cousin Luke, the Tolos boys make a resurgence. A number of quick tags from both teams soon sees both teams battling out on the floor and John gets Luke in trouble, bringing him back into the ring and hitting the FLYING KNEE DROP! Jim tries to get in and break things up, but is too late. The referee makes the three count, giving the win to John and Chris Tolos! Afterwards, World Champion Ted DiBiase and Television Champion Claudio Castagnoli make their way to the ring and exchange words with the brothers. Everyone is all smiles and all four men shake hands and celebrate before leaving the ring for the locker rooms together.
Cantrell: "What did we just see?"
Saddler: "The Gentlemen's Club just doubled in size, Mike!"
Cantrell: "That... can not be a good thing, Frankie. Not good at all."
Saddler: "We can only wonder what World Champion Ted DiBiase's final plan will be... what is he thinking? What is he doing?"
Cantrell: "Good questions, indeed! That brings us, ladies and gentlemen, to tonight's Top Contender's Match for a shot at the Television Championship right here next week! Let's get to it!"
Our ring announcer, the lovely Cindy Shepherd, really amps up the crowd for...
* Greg "the Hammer" Valentine v. Mil Mascaras (Television Title top Contender's Match)- The match starts off with Valentine being dominant and aggressive, taking charge and really working his opponent over for a few minutes. Mascaras makes a valiant comeback about five or six minutes in, but soon finds himself out on the floor and in trouble! After a short battle on the outside, an exhausted Mil Mascaras rolls back into the ring and is caught by the Hammer in a vicious shoulder breaker! This leads, of course, to the FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and a submission in short order! As the referee is raising Greg Valentine's hand to signal his victory, John and Chris Tolos storm the ring and attack both Valentine and the still-recovering Mil Mascaras! Making short work of Mascaras, the brothers then turn their full attention to the Hammer and start working him over! After a few tense minutes, they're chased from the ring by Harley Race and Larry 'The Axe' Hennig! Winner of the match- Greg 'the Hammer' Valentine!
Cantrell: "I think I understand what we just saw, Frankie..."
Saddler: "Do tell, Mike."
Cantrell: I think our Television Champion hired the Tolos brothers to soften up his opponent for next week! That's despicable! Something needs to be done about things like this!"
Saddler: "Well, Mike, that's what we have a Commissioner and General Manager for!"
Cantrell: "You know... you're right. I hope he's watching this! I also hope that our Main Event for the night doesn't have nay such trouble!"
Saddler: "Um... you do know who's in that match, yes? It's going to be nothing but trouble!"
Cantrell: "You're probably right, Frankie. Let's find out now!"
For the last time tonight, we join our lovely Miss Shepherd in the ring for...
*Main Event: "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan v. Iron Sheik (North American Champion)- The two men go after one another before the announcements are even finished being made! Both men trade offense frequently and furiously, with the two being both bloody messes by the time we get close to the final minutes of the match. Out of nowhere, a resurgent Jim Duggan manages to land an OLD GLORY KNEEDROP and follows it up with a FLYING SPEAR and a quick cover... easy three count and we have our winner! Winner of the match a new N.E.W. North American Champion: "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan!
Cantrell: "Wow! What a victory for the bloodied and battered "Hacksaw"!"
Saddler: "What a big win!"
Cantrell: "Something tells me that those two are far from done, Frankie. This war has just started."
Saddler: "I'm thinking you might be right, Mike... you might just be right."
We end the broadcast with a number of Duggan's friends helping the bloody new champion celebrate in the middle of the ring.
*the End*
