It is always a bonus when some extra game playing time lands in your lap!
FCC 03 – The American Dream – Grady Cole Centre, North Carolina
Round One
Buddy Rogers v. Koko B. Ware The Birdman has the fans dancing to open the night’s event. Rogers did not need to work the fans for any heat as the booed him out of the building especially when he took control of the action early on. Ware managed to grab the ropes to escape a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE and then turned things around at ringside getting the best of a brawl on the floor. Ware connected with a top rope dropkick for a one count and then mounted the corner again but Rogers caught him and tossed Ware to the mat. Ware survived a second FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE and then managed to reverse a whip into the ring post at ringside. Ware could not gain any momentum however as the Nature Boy stepped up his attack with a series of jumping knee smashes and atomic drops. Rogers finally advanced to the next round with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. **
Frank Gotch v. Johnny Valentine Both these competitors were making their first appearance of season two. These two exchanged counters from the outset as the fans settled in for what promised to be a lengthy encounter. Valentine held the advantage when it came to exchange blows and moves on their feet but Gotch ruled the mat. Valentine picked up a near fall with an impressive roll up in the corner and then connected with a FOREARM HAMMER. Gotch was able to raise his shoulder and stay alive. Valentine was clearly frustrated and when Gotch became tangled in the ropes he took out his aggression on Gotch with a series of elbows and forearms. The referee stepped but Valentine refused to back off and earned himself a disqualification. The fans were not pleased with the call. The referee was able to finally release a dazed Gotch from the ropes. * ½
Harley Race v. Hacksaw Jim Duggan Two of the sports toughest clashed in the next bout. Duggan has the fans on their feet as he comes to the ring with his 2x4 in hand. Duggan draws on the fans support and batters Race from corner to corner with haymakers, slams and knee drops. Duggan gets a two count with a spinning bodyslam. Race is completely reeling and begs off on two occasions drawing a great response from the fans. Race is able to use his agility to counter a vertical suplex with a spinning neckbreaker and hooks the leg. 1, 2, 3/kick out. Race steals a first round victory. * ½
Mil Mascaras v. Don Leo Jonathan A rematch from the second round of FCC 02 was next as Mascaras was looking to improve on his previous performance where he was just outclassed by the Mormon Giant. A handshake started the match off and the pace was very quick and although Jonathan was well known as being a very agile big man he was not as quick as Mascaras who took a very near fall after he avoided Jonathan’s charge into the corner. Mascaras was everywhere tonight attacking with a deathjump smash followed by a FLYING BODYPRESS for a two count. There was a solid looking spot where Mascaras monkey flipped the 6’9” Jonathan across the ring. Jonathan could not even find shelter at ringside as Mascaras dove onto him on the floor and that is where the action would end. Mascaras dove onto Jonathan at ringside for the third time in the contest and Jonathan could not regain the ring and was counted out. ** ½
Semi-Finals
Buddy Rogers v. Frank Gotch The fans were all over the Nature Boy as he made his way to the ring. Rogers gets the upper hand with an inside cradle after being sent into the ropes by Gotch. Rogers takes the bout to the floor and rams Gotch in the leg with a chair shot drawing huge heat. Back inside, Rogers applies the FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE. The fans are all over the referee but Rogers is able to get the submission and has reached the finals for the third straight tournament! Dud
Harley Race v. Mil Mascaras The fans gave both men an ovation when they shook hands to get the action underway. Race gained the upper hand with a diving headbutt and then went for the victory with a PILEDRIVER but Mascaras was able to kick out at the last second. Race then followed with a choke slam (ch) that planted Mascaras for another near fall. Mascaras and Race battled at ringside and Mascaras was able to backdrop Race onto the floor turning the momentum. Mascaras executed three consecutive CROSSBODY ATTACKS but could only get a two and half count at most. Mascaras then mounted the corner for a picture perfect FLYING BODYPRESS captured by hundreds of cameras that moved him to the finals. *** ½
Finals
Buddy Rogers v. Mil Mascaras The fans were ready to see the Nature Boy get beat and were solidly behind the Mexican legend as he came to the ring. Rogers frustrates Mascaras early on and is able to hit dropkicks and jumping knee smashes. Rogers sends Mascaras into the ropes and attempts a back drop but Mascaras counters with a piledriver that stuns the Nature Boy. The fans rise to their feet as Mascaras connects with a FLYING BODYPRESS but Rogers kicks out at 2 ½. Mascaras then downs Rogers with a CROSSBODY ATTACK. 1, 2, 3! Mascaras wins FCC 03! The fans explode as Mascaras celebrates in the ring while Rogers is enraged at ringside. * 1/2
Season two wraps up at FCC 04 The Anniversary with another eight man tournament in addition to three additional bouts. Tournament winner Mil Mascaras will be back in action and we already know that Midnight Express will face the Killer Bees. Now a huge co-main event non-tournament match has been signed and it is rematch an entire season in the making as The Road Warriors Hawk and Animal return to the FCC ring to take on the Foreign Legion Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff.

FCC 04 – The Anniversary – Expo Square Pavillion, Tulsa, Oklahoma
Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair & Jim Brunzell) v. Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette The fans at ringside, especially the youngsters, give the Bees a great ovation. Both teams counter each other well from the outset with no clear advantage. Cornette is clearly frustrated on the floor and jaws with the fans. Cornette is able to turn the momentum himself smashing Brunzell with his tennis racket drawing great heat. The Express work over Brunzell including an impressive looking Flapjack but cannot get the pinfall. Lane takes Brunzell to the floor and both men mix it up. Cornette again gets involved with a tennis racket shot across the back of Brunzell but the referees sees the interference this time and calls for the disqualification. The fans were expecting more from these two teams. *
Round One
Mil Mascaras v. The Destroyer The battles between these two in Japan are still talked about today and now they clash in the opening round of FCC 04. There as a great pace to this match from the outset with both men exchanging counters after an opening handshake. Mascaras gained the upper hand and twice came off the top of the corner with a FLYING BODYPRESS but Destroyer was able to kick out each time. They exchanged slams off the top of the buckles before Destroyer obtained the advantage. Masacaras was able to counter a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and the action continued. Mascaras was nearly counted out of the ring after a Destroyer bodyslammed him onto the concrete. Mascaras was able to avoid Destroyer’s charge into the corner and the Destroyer crashed hard into the buckles leading to a near fall. Mascaras could sense victory and struck with a CROSSBODY ATTACK but Destroyer kicked out at two. Mascaras then downed Destroyer with another CROSSBODY ATTACK to advance to the next round. Excellent start to the tournament action. *** ½
Bobo Brazil v. Frank Gotch A very interesting contrast of styles was featured in the next contest with the power of Brazil facing the skill of Gotch. Handshake gets the action started. Gotch gets the upper hand almost immediately and works the leg with a rolling knee bar. Gotch earns some heat when he runs Brazil into the ring rails. Back inside, Brazil is able to use is size advantage to get control of the action. Gotch reels from a big hammer punch but manages to kick out of the following cover. Gotch really struggles with Brazil’s size. Brazil connects with three consecutive COCO BUTTS which do not get the job done. However, a Bobo body slam on the floor a few seconds later finishes Gotch who is counted out of the ring. ** ½
Buddy Rogers v. Killer Kowalski The competitors were well known to one another having battled along the East Coast of the United States in the past. Kowalski comes out like a man possessed and launches a significant attack on the Nature Boy who has made it to the finals of the first three tournaments. Rogers is begging off early on and Kowalski just keeps coming. Rogers survives a CLAW HOLD by grabbing the ropes. A series of giant swings rocks the fans and sends Rogers spilling to the floor. Outside, Kowalski runs Rogers into the ring rails busting him open. A bloody and battered Rogers escapes to the floor again and Kowalski comes outside to inflict from some punishment but the Nature Boy has other ideas and drops Kowalski with a chair shot earning a disqualification. Rogers is out of the tournament. **
Nick Bockwinkel v. Giant Baba There are plenty of international media covering this match from ringside. Bockwinkel shows not fear of Baba’s size advantage and quickly takes control of the action leading to a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. A Bockwinkel deathjump results in a referee bump and we have no official (8 moves). Bockwinkel traps Baba in another FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but the referee is still down. The action goes and out of the ring before a second official arrives to take over the match. It is back and forth from this point. There is a monster spot where Baba comes off the top with a worst looking deathjump cross body in history but it gets a two and half count. The momentum goes back and forth. They brawl on the floor and Baba rams Bockwinkel into the ringside rails. The bell sounds and Baba has been disqualified. The fans do not like call. Bockwinkel quickly leaves ringside with Baba in pursuit. ***
Texas Death Match – Sabu v. The Sandman There was nothing pretty about this one. From the outset we get plenty of brawling in and out of the ring. Sabu sets the tone with a wicked chair shot that busts open Sandman before he hits a TRIPLE JUMP MOONSAULT for a near fall. They brawl into the crowd and out of the arena. Sandman attempts to run Sabu into a car but Sabu reverses. The action comes back to ringside. Sabu chokes out Sandman with a rope from under the ring but misses a TRIPLE JUMP MOONSAULT. Sandman cannot capitalize and Sabu gets control again smashing Sandman with a chair at ringside. Sandman is a bloody mess as the action continues to go in and out the ring. Sabu presses the attack and traps Sandman in a CAMEL CLUTCH. Sandman is unresponsive and the referee calls for the bell. Sabu is your winner. Sandman needs medical assistance (10 pin tokens) to leave ringside. ****
Semi-Finals
Mil Mascaras v. Bobo Brazil The fans are still buzzing after the last encounter but still manage to give both competitors a solid ovation. A handshake starts the match. Mascaras shows his mat skills early on but Brazil is able to counter with his power attack. The action goes to the floor and Brazil again gets the advantage. Back in the ring, Brazil slows the match down with a bear hug and then strikes with a pair of COCO BUTTS to advance to the finals. * ½ Nick Bockwinkel v. Killer Kowalski These two last collided in the opening round of FCC 01 and Bockwinkel came away the winner via disqualification. Kowalski came into the match with a solid game plan to work over the arm and shoulder or Bockwinkel possibly to neutralize the BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Kowalski is able to escape that very hold early on and then goes to work. Each time Bockwinkel would appear to get the upper hand Kowalski would go back to the shoulder time and time again including shoulder breakers and standing armbars. The plan pays off as Kowalski gets the stunning pinfall after a shoulder breaker and moves onto the finals. **
Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) v. Foreign Legion (Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff) w/Nikita Breznikov The fans really give it to Foreign Legion as they sit through Volkoff singing and Sheik’s tirade on the mic before the Warriors storm the ring to a huge ovation. The Warriors cut off Sheik from the outset and battered him from corner to corner with the fans cheering each blow. Hawk punishes him with a vertical suplex for a two count and follows with an over the shoulder backbreaker for a near submission. A DOOMSDAY DEVICE crushes Sheik. Hawk blocks Sheik but Breznikov is able to cause a distraction. The beating continues until Sheik is able to get the advantage with a low blow on Hawk at ringside. Volkoff tags in but cannot maintain any momentum. Animal press slams Volkoff from ringside into the ring earning a huge pop. He then sends Volkoff crashing to the mat with an overhead bodyslam. A DOOMSDAY DEVICE should have ended it but Breznikov interferes causing Hawk to chases him around the ring. Sheik is able to get the tag and finally gets something going against Hawk. The match goes to the floor where Sheik cracks Hawk across the back with a chair shot and is disqualified. The Legion goes on the attack after the bell but Animal takes out Volkoff with a flying tackle and then grabs a chair causing the Legion to retreat to the back. ** ½
Finals
Bobo Brazil v. Killer Kowalski The fans are solidly behind Brazil as he makes his way to the ring. Brazil responds to the fans cheers by taking the battle to Kowalski from the opening bell. Headscissors and dropkicks keep Kowalski on the defensive. Kowalski attempts a press slam but it is unsuccessful. Kowalski bails after a big hammer punch and Brazil comes out after him. Kowalski runs Brazil shoulder first into the ring post and the official lets the action continue. Kowalski cannot maintain the advantage however and Brazil connects with back to back COCO BUTTS to get the victory. * ½

I was happy to see Bobo Brazil come up with the tournament win at FCC 04. A great night of action, I really liked the Mil Mascaras vs. The Destroyer bout and the big win by Killer Kowalski over Nick Bockwinkel. The description of Giant Baba coming off the top was classic.

The description of Giant Baba coming off the top was classic. Totally agree here. Haha. I could see it in my mind's eye and it wasn't pretty! Nice win by Bobo. Does Roger's loss of composure in the last two tournaments signal the end of his dominance? I liked the portrayal of psychology in the Kowalski/Bockwinkle match. Quick question: in tournaments do you have tokens carry over between rounds?

cruefan68 thank you for comments. Glad you enjoyed the Baba spot. I never really know whether to take the deathjump commands for the big men seriously with the exception of Don Leo Jonathan who I always pictured in a Mike Awesome type of role but better. aceldamas thank you for the feedback and the question. In the past I have carried forward one half of the accumulated tokens that way if a competitor takes a beating in an earlier round it has an impact on the balance of their tournament. However, this time I keeping it simple and just adding one token per round. Season Two Year End Awards Competitor of the Year: Bobo Brazil Match of the Year: Iron Sheik v. Buddy Rogers [FCC 02 – Quest for Greatness ] I am going to take the next few days to complete the next card in my PWA fed but will back to the FCC soon enough for Season Three. There is going to be more tournaments and plenty of non-tournament action as the competitors from Legends Hardcore join the FCC The main event for FCC 05 has already been signed as FCC 04 winner Bobo Brazil faces two time FCC winner Buddy Rogers to determine the first FCC World Champion!

FCC 05 – Crowning of a Champion – Independence Arena, Charlotte North Carolina
Round One
Killer Kowalski v. The Missing Link w/Captain Lou Albano Two of the federations most hated competitors clashed to open up the action. Albano really worked the fans for heat and Link added some heat of his own with a wild chair shot on Kowalski. However, Kowalski battled back and trapped Link in a CLAW HOLD. Albano was able to cause a distraction to keep the action going but Kowalski was not to be denied going back to a CLAW HOLD a short time later. Albano attempted to interfere but Kowalski whipped Link into his own manager earning a solid pop before putting away Link with another CLAW HOLD. * ½
Don Leo Jonathan v. George Hackenschmidt A battle of the powerhouses was next. Unfortunately, this one did not last long. Jonathan managed to gain the upper hand with a body slam and then forced Hackenschmidt to the floor with an atomic drop. Jonathan came outside but Hackenschmidt whipped his opponent into the ring post earning himself a disqualification. dud
Jimmy Snuka v. The Sheik Incredible heat for The Sheik has he came to the ring and prayed in the corner. The ovation for Snuka was monstrous. Snuka took control with a series of dropkicks, slams and chops but made the mistake of following Sheik to the floor where Sheik dropped him with a chair shot busting Snuka open. With the fans jeering, the bell sounded and Sheik was disqualified. Sheik then dug a foreign object into the forehead of the Superfly earning more heat before leaving ringside. dud
Bruiser Brody v. Ted DiBiase w/Virgil An interesting matchup between two competitors who spent time in the same rings both in Japan and in the mid-west. Brody has one direction and that is forward. Brody is a machine tonight and just keeps on coming with slams, suplexes, punches and stomps. DiBiase is reeling the entire match until he is able to catch Brody in the corner with an elbow to the chin. DiBiase then sends Brody across the ring into the buckles and connects with a running slingshot. DiBiase then traps Brody in the MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPER and the referee calls for the bell (Cat’s Eyes) although it appears that Brody still had plenty of fight left in him. DiBiase rolls to the floor and telling Brody everyone has their price inferring that he had paid off the official. Brody then chases the referee from the ring as the fans fill the area with boos. * ½
The Last of the Famous International Playboys (Buff Bagwell & Brutus Beefcake) v. Vachon Brothers (Mad Dog Vachon and Butcher Vachon) The fans, especially the ladies, are backing the Playboys tonight. The story in this one was defensive tags especially by the Playboys who kept a fresh man in the ring at all times while battling the brawling and power attack of their opponents. The momentum was in flux until Bagwell stunned Mad Dog Vachon with a kick to the stomach and then connected with a BUFF BLOCKBUSTER for the three count. Huge win for the Playboys in the FCC debut. * ½
Semi-Finals
Killer Kowalski v. Don Leo Jonathan These two have been tag team partners and enemies across the globe and therefore knew each other very well. Jonathan has the fans behind him as steps into the ring and he draws on that support early on to get the upper hand. However, Kowalski brawls his way back into the contest and gets a pair of near falls after shoulder breakers. Kowalski rocks the fans with no the giant swing spot on Jonathan three times during the match. Jonathan survives a CLAW HOLD and Kowalski then uses a chair across the back at ringside earning some additional heat. Jonathan is nearly counted out of the ring but manages to barely beat the count back inside. Kowalski then advances to the next round with a second CLAW HOLD. **
Jimmy Snuka v. Ted DiBase w/Virgil Snuka comes to ringside with his head heavily bandaged after being assaulted by The Sheik in the first round. DiBiase is out to solid heat after potentially paying off the referee in the opening round. Snuka maintains a brief advantage early on but a backward elbow off ropes turning the momentum in DiBiase’s direction. Snuka manages to battle through two MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPERS but DiBiase is the better wrestler tonight and gets the win after another backward elbow off ropes. **
Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/Paul Ellering v. Giant Baba & Antonio Inoki Reporters from Japan jam ringside for this one. We get a lengthy Puroresu ceremony prior to the action getting underway and the fans show their appreciation. The addition of Ellering at ringside has apparently only made the Warriors even stronger as they cut off Inoki from his corner and pounded him into oblivion. A spike piledriver stuns Inoki before Animal crushes him with a POWERSLAM for a near fall. Outside, Hawk battering rams Inoki into the ring post in a sick looking spot. Back in the ring, it is all Warriors with a double clothesline. Animal tags back into the action and the Warriors crush Inoki’s neck with back to back spike piledrivers before Animal hooks the leg for the three count. Baba makes no effort to save his partner perhaps out of mercy. ** ½
Finals
Killer Kowalski v. Ted DiBiase w/Virgil Although the fans booed Kowalski last round they really hate DiBiase and back Kowalski as the bell sounds. The action starts slow but quickly picks up when DiBiase catches Kowalski with a running slingshot in the corner. Kowalski escapes a MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPER twice. DiBiase mounts the corner but Kowalski catches him on the top of the buckles and tosses him to the mat. Kowalski then climbs the corner but he takes a moment to check on Virgil at ringside which allows DiBiase to shake the ropes sending Kowalski crashing to the mat. Kowalski never recovers and DiBiase wins the tournament with a MILLION DOLLAR SLEEPER. * ½
FCC World Title Match Buddy Rogers v. Bobo Brazil Great heat for the Nature Boy as he comes to the ring with the confidence of knowing he holds victories over Brazil in each of the two previous seasons. The atmosphere is electric from the outset as these two battle hold for hold from the opening bell. Brazil is able to mix his speed and power to get control. Three flying dropkicks in a row has the fans rocking. The Nature Boy shows some resilience kicking out after a COCO BUTT much to the disappointment of the fans. Rogers uses his own dropkicks to get back into the action and a jumping knee smash gets a one count. The action goes back and forth but neither man is able to string together a long run of offense. Rogers backdrops Brazil over the corner to the floor in a nasty looking spot. Rogers comes out after Brazil and runs him face first into the guardrails busting him open. The bell sounds and Rogers has been disqualified. The fans are not quite sure if Brazil is the champion or not but explode when he is presented the title. Rogers is clearly not impressed as a bloody Brazil holds up the championship title for the world to see. * ½
A controversial ending to another night of FCC action as Bobo Brazil leaves North Carolina with the FCC Title around his waist. The Nature Boy was not happy after the match telling the media that a Title cannot be won by disqualification and that he would be doing everything in his power, legal or otherwise, to get another shot at the FCC World Title. As it currently stands, it would be Ted DiBiase who would get the first opportunity at the new World Champion after winning tonight’s tournament. DiBiase was not without his own controversy as it appears the referee made a fast count in DiBiase’s opening round victory over Bruiser Brody. DiBiase’s post match actions certainly suggested a payoff had taken place but investigations by the FCC did not reveal and wrong doing. Brody was not impressed with the results of FCC management and simply walked out the back door the area. No one is sure exactly what Brody’s status is with the FCC at this point.

Solid action Book and it's always good to see Bobo Brazil win the FCC Title, plus Brazil seems to be a underrated Champion in my view...
