Brawl in Buffalo was awesome and wow what a way for Dick Hutton to cap off his tournament win by beating Bobo Brazil for the FCC title. An amazing run for Hutton. I have to agree with Crimson that George Hackenschmidt looked to be the star of the tournament but Nick Bockwinkel won and that is all that matters in the end. It was also cool to see The Sheik pull out a big win over Jimmy Snuka. Looking forward to the next show.

Thanks for the feedback Crue and CC. I think the standout was Bobby Heenan who was instrumental in getting Bockwinkel to the finals. In the end The Russian Lion beat himself but he is the first competitor announced for the next tournament so he will get another shot to win the whole thing.

FCC 08 – Anniversary 2 – Mammoth Gardens, Denver, Colorado Round One
George Hackenschmidt v. The Sheik Hackenschmidt was coming off an impressive run at FCC 07 but came up just short in winning the tournament. Hackenschmidt dominates his opponent from the outset with pure power and skill. Sheik looks helpless against the Russian Lion but manages to punch free of a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG. The Sheik finally turns things around with a series of stabs with a sharp object busting Hackenschmidt open. Sheik continues his attack on the floor running Hackenschmidt into the rails spilling more blood. The fans are all over the referee wondering how much more Sheik will get away with. Sheik then crosses the line when a FIREBALL flies and the bell sounds. Hackenschmidt manage to duck the attack but the match is over and Hackenschmidt, bloodies and battered, moves to the next round. **
Giant Baba v. Killer Kowalski There are loads of international media on hand in Denver covering this event. A Puroresu ceremony takes place prior to the match getting underway and both men are very respectful. Baba has yet to find success of any kind in the FCC and was looking to turn things around against Kowalski who has twice been a tournament finalist. Kowalski attempts to counter an early clothesline with one of his own and both Baba & Kowalski end up in a heap on the mat. Kowalski never really recovers as Baba executes a piledriver for a near fall and then comes off the top rope with a cross body block that stuns the fans but can only get a one count. Baba keeps on Kowalski with a Russian legsweep which sets up another piledriver. Baba gets the three count and moves on. * ½
Mil Mascaras v. Masked Superstar Mascaras makes his first appearance this season and is greeted warmly by the fans at ringside. The counters between these two are flawless from the opening bell with neither man being able to get the advantage. Mascaras goes to the top and perhaps too soon as Superstar catches him on the buckle and tosses Mascaras to the mat. The momentum continues to go back and forth. Mascaras catches Superstar with a slingshot plancha and then a full nelson suplex. Superstar bails and Mascaras follows him to the floor running Superstar into the ringside rails. The referee calls for the disqualification and the fans are stunned. Mascaras is out and Superstar moves to the next round. A disappointing finish to what appeared to be building up to be a classic. * ½
Bobo Brazil v. The Destroyer Brazil, the former and first time FCC champion was looking to make his way back to the top with a tournament win tonight. The Destroyer and Brazil shakes hands and we get underway. The opening minutes are very tightly contested with both men countering well. Destroyer breaks out with an intelligent sleeper hold and follows with a bombs away knee drop that gets a two count. Brazil is in trouble and Destroyer goes for the kill with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. Brazil cannot make the ropes and has no choice but to submit. Destroyer gets a huge win over the former champion and the fans are wondering who will emerge as the next contender. * ½
The Vachons (Mad Dog Vachon & Butcher Vachon) v. Killer Bees (Jumping Jim Brunzell & B. Brian Blair) The Bees were out to a solid reaction from the fans but struggled to get anything going at all. The match was far too long and really killed the crowd as the Vachon’s dominated but could not find the means to get the pinfall or submission. The Bees uses masked confusion late which finally got the fans into the action. The Bees picked up their only pin attempt of the bout shortly after that with a BEE STING on Butcher Vachon but the Vachon Brothers were the better team tonight and Mad Dog finally ended it with a PILEDRIVER on Brunzell. A very long boring contest. Dud
Semi Finals
George Hackenschmidt v. Giant Baba Hackenschmidt is bandaged up after his battle with the Sheik in the opening round. It as power vs power early with no clear advantage. Hackenschmidt was successful when the action went to the mat before Baba turned things around during a brawl on the floor. A series of wristlock suplexes by Hackenschmidt rocked the crowd and took their toll on Baba. Baba attempted a falling legdrop that looked as bad as the result as he crashed to the mat. The finishing sequence saw Baba in control after a head butt and he whipped Hackenschmidt into the corner. Baba charged in and Hackenschmidt countered with an elbow to the face. Baba was stunned and Hackenschmidt capitalized with his second RUSSIAN BEAR HUG of the night. Baba had no choice but to submit and Hackenschmidt was onto the finals for the second straight tournament. ***
Masked Superstar v. The Destroyer A very interesting matchup between two of very capable masked competitor was next. An excellent contest from the outset. Both men counter each other flawlessly early on. Destroyer gains the first advantage and works his way to a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but Superstar is able to gain the ropes and the action continued. Superstar made a strong comeback and uses a sleeper to set up for a COBRA CLUTCH but it was Destroyer’s turn to make the ropes. A series of head butts by Superstar leaves Destroyer on wobbly legs and sets up a Superstar Clothesline and a big near fall. The fans thought it was over but Destroyer kicked out of the cover at two and battled back. The battle went back and forth both at ringside and between the ropes. Destroyer was able to trap Superstar in a single leg Boston Crab and then transitioned to another FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK. This time Superstar could not make the ropes and Destroyer advances to the finals. ****
FCC Title Match – Dick Hutton (ch) v. Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan This two clashed back at FCC 02 with Bockwinkel coming away the winner on that night after being pushed to the limit by Hutton. A weasel chant greets Heenan as he comes to ringside. Bockwinkel shows his superior skills right away but Hutton stuns Bockwinkel with a cross body coming off a whip into the ropes for a near fall. Hutton then immediately applies an ABDOMINAL STRETCH but Bockwinkel is able to counter. The action goes to the floor and Hutton runs Bockwinkel face first into the steel rails. Bockwinkel is busted open and the bell sounds. Hutton has been disqualified. Bockwinkel is announced as the winner as the fans jeer and toss trash into the ring. Hutton retains the championship. *
Finals
The Destroyer v. George Hackenschmidt Both men shakes hands and the fans show their appreciation. Destroyer and Hackenschmidt counter well but Hackenschmidt is able to get the upper hand after reversing a whip into the corner. A wristlock suplex sends Destroyer to the floor where Hackenschmidt runs his opponent into the steel rails. The referee lets the action continue as the fans hold their breath fearing a disqualification. Back inside, Hackenschmidt grinds away with a keylock armbar and then traps Destroyer in a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG. There is no escape for The Destroyer who submits. A huge win for Hackenschmidt to end the season three of FCC action. * ½

Season Three ended in controversy as Nick Bockwinkel beat FCC Champion Dick Hutton but did not leave Colorado with the title. Will he be given a rematch? And if so, what about George Hackenschmidt who has been an impressive run in the last two cards of the season and should, by virtue of his tournament win tonight, be the next contender? FCC management has some decisions to make between seasons. Looking ahead to season four we can expect more tournament madness as the competitors from Legends Vintage arrive along with some limited edition cards as well.
Season End Awards:
Best Wrestler: George Hackenschmidt Best Match: Dick Hutton over Bobo Brazil to win the FCC Title at Brawl In Buffalo FCC 07

I agree with Crimson, such a great concept for a fed. That was an impressive run by George Hackenschmidt in winning the last tournament and it will be interesting to see whether he or Nick Bockwinkel get the first crack at Dick Hutton in season four. I like the season ending awards too.

SEASON FOUR
Welcome to season four of Filsinger Combat Championship. This season will feature the arrival of the competitors from the Vintage set along with special addition cards released in the same year. The season has been expanded to five events.
Last season ended in controversy when there were two contenders to Dick Hutton’s FCC title. Nick Bockwinkel laid claim to the number one contender position after picking up a win over Hutton by disqualification at Anniversary 2 and George Hackenschmidt also claimed to be the top contender after winning the tournament on the same card.
To resolve this issue, FCC management, after a lengthy negotiation with all the parties involved, has signed a round robin challenge that will take place at FCC 9. Dick Hutton, George Hackenschmidt and Nick Bockwinkel will all face each other once. The competitor with the most victories walks away with the FCC Title. In the event of the draw, Hutton will remain the FCC title holder. The action will all take place at the Ruben Rodriquez Coliseum in Baymon, Puerto Rico. The event will also feature an eight man tournament with the following competitors signed to appear: The Destroyer, Iron Mike DiBiase, Ilio DiPaolo, Yukon Eric, S. D. Jones, Bob Orton Sr., Dan Severn and Jimmy Snuka.
Results will be posted next week.

Stole some extra time with the dice and finished up the first card of the new season...
FCC 09 – Round Robin Challenge – Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum, Bayamon, Puerto Rico
Round One
The Destroyer v. S. D. Jones With joins in the opposite corner, Destroyer is the heel tonight and he plays it up to the max. A single leg Boston Crab is extremely effective. Destroyer cranks up the heat when he runs Jones into the ring post busting him open. Jones gets the fans back into the match when he runs Destroyer into the ring post but he cannot capitalize on the advantage. The action goes back outside again and Destroyer decks Jones with a chair shot. Jones cannot recover and is counted out of the ring. * ½
Yukon Eric v. Ilio DiPaolo A handshake gets the action underway and the fans cheer both men. Eric uses his power advantage to get the upper hand and then takes down DiPaolo with a pair of Woodman’s Chops. DiPaolo is reeling and falls to a KODIAK KRUNCH. * ½
Jimmy Snuka v. Iron Mike DiBiase The ovation for Snuka is off the charts. The Superfly gets control early but DiBiase battles back and makes it a close match. DiBiase nearly gets the pin after a spinning neckbreaker (ch) but Snuka comes back with a series of backbreakers and gets the win after a leap frog and chop. **
Dan Severn v. Bob Orton Sr. Both men were able to use figure four leglocks (ch) on each other early on as the match unfolded. Severn steps up his offense including a bow and arrow and another figure four leglock (ch). Orton is nearly counted out of the ring after a series of knees to the head. Back inside, Severn traps Orton in WAKIGATAME but Orton makes the ropes. Severn goes back to the hold immediately and Orton cannot make the ropes a second time. Severn moves onto the next round. **
Round Robin Tournament Match 1 – FFC Champion Dick Hutton v. George Hackenschmidt This was epic. A handshake started the action and the battle was on. Neither man could get the upper hand as the exchange of counters began and continued from bell to bell. Hackenschmidt’s power gave him the advantage as the action wore on. Hutton survives a RUSSIAN BEAR HUG before battling back to connect with an ABDOMINAL STRETCH for a near submission. Hutton began to run out of gas as Hackenschmidt pressed the attack. A pair of wristlock suplexes is enough to finish Hutton and put his FCC Championship in serious jeopardy ***
Round Two
The Destroyer v. Yukon Eric With just one win away from his second straight tournament final. The Destroyer brings his A game to the second round and dominates the match from start to finish. The intelligent sleeper hold starts a run a high impact offense including a deathjump smash and single leg Boston Crab. Eric draws on the fans support to escape a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but Destroyer will not be denied and gets the win with a bombs away kneedrop. *
Jimmy Snuka v. Dan Severn The Beast and Superfly shake hands to start the battle of the mat technician and the high flyer. Severn finds early success taking the action to the mat with a front chancery. Snuka battles back but a shoulder throw sends him to the mat again before Severn locks in a choke sleeper. The match is over quickly and the fans are stunned. Severn is onto the finals. *
Dick Hutton v. Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan Already down one win, Hutton must come out on top to have any chance of keeping his FCC title. Hutton wrestling with an extreme desperation and takes the fight to Bockwinkel from the opening bell. Bockwinkel escapes an ABDOMINAL STRETCH and the action goes to the floor. Heenan eats an uppercut to a huge ovation at ringside and then Hutton runs Bockwinkel into the ring post. Back inside, Hutton ties up Bockwinkel with a second ABDOMINAL STRETCH and gets the submission win. Hutton is back in it. *
Finals
Dan Severn v. The Destroyer Both men have been impressive in making their way to the finals. Severn shows why he is the Beast in this one as he tears into Destroyer early on both in and out of the ring. A fireman’s carry slam shakes the ring. A series of suplexes rocks Destroyer and Severn goes for the submission with back to back WAKIGATAME holds but Destroyer escapes both time be gaining the ropes (box cars!). Destroyer comes back at ringside and then uses a single leg Boston Crab to wear down Severn. However, Destroyer has taken too much punishment and cannot sustain his momentum. A German suplex sets a third WAKIGATAME and gives Severn the tournament win. ***
Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan v. George Hackenschmidt The FCC Title hangs in the balance as Heenan leads Bockwinkel to ringside. If Hackenschmidt wins, he leaves with the FCC title. If Bockwinkel wins, Dick Hutton remains the champion as a result of each competitor picking up one win. Bockwinkel uses his agility to escape a back hammerlock and then connects with a back suplex. Bockwinkel goes for the win with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but Hackenschmidt powers out. Bockwinkel then traps Hackenschmidt in a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Hackenschmidt cannot counter and Bockwinkel gets the win. Dick Hutton is still the FCC champion. *
A huge tournament win for Dan Severn is his FCC debut places him next in line for a shot at the FCC champion Dick Hutton who was fortunately to leave with his title tonight after the Round Robin Tournament ends with each competitor going 1 -1. Severn will get his title match at FCC 10 from the Cobo Arena in Detroit. The card will be a departure for the FCC as there will no tournament. Instead, FCC will present a seven bout card that is stacked from top to bottom. The complete line up is as follows:
Konnan makes his FCC debut when he faces Sabu The Vachon Brothers step into the ring with Red Bastien & Billy Red Lyons, the Flying Redheads Two more competitors making their debut will clash as crowd favorite Antonino Rocca battles Japanese Legend Rikidozan In a classic feud match Killer Kowalski (LE) will face the man he maimed, Yukon Eric Another classic feud will be presented as Ed “The Strangler” Lewis will square off against Jim Londos No card in Detroit would be complete without The Sheik and he has been booked to appear against the man sworn to stop his reign of terror, Bobo Brazil Dick Hutton defends the FCC Title against Dan Severn

An awesome return for FCC and the title situation with Dick Hutton was really interesting. Dan Severn winning the tournament was cool and I look forward to his title match with Hutton in Detroit.

I really liked how the round-robin for the FCC title played out. Very suspenseful! Hutton over Bockwinkle was a surprise and a very clutch win.
Severn's tourney win sets up what should be a good match with Hutton.
