GCCW Tag Title Quarterfinal: Finlay/David Taylor def. 2 Cold Scorpio/Mikey Whipwreck by pinfall.
Finlay/Taylor isolated Mikey from the beginning of the match and tore him apart. Scorpio made a couple of pin saves but Finlay hits a Sitdown Splash to finish Mikey off.
--
GCCW US Title Quarterfinal: Rick Rude def. Ted Dibiase via DISQUALIFICATION.
Chris Candido and Tammy Lynn Sytch accompanied Rude down to ringside where Rude got massive boos from the crowd for his 'fat girl and guy in the fron row' routine. Even though this was a heel vs heel matchup, both were intent on winning the match and advancing to the Semifinals. Dibiase was able to lock on the FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK but Sytch distracted the referee and Candido was able to drag Rude to the ropes to break the hold each time. A frustrated Dibiase loaded up his BLACK GLOVE and knocked Rude for a loop but Sytch called the referee's attention to it and Dibiase was DQ'd. Rude advances to face Mike Graham in the Semifinals.
--
GCCW Tag Title Quarterfinal: The Road Warriors def. The Hennigs by pinfall.
Animal and Larry Hennig started the match for their respective teams. In rapid succession, Animal nearly scores an early with POWERSLAM but Larry fired back and caught Animal with THE AXE. The match settled into a rythem of back and forth action until Paul Ellering got involved for his team. The Road Warriors took advantage with Hawk hitting a Falling Fistdrop from the top rope. This eventually led into the DOOMSDAY DEVICE on Curt Hennig for the finish. The Road Warriors advance to face Finlay/David Taylor in the Semifinals.
....The fans were definitely jacked up for the next match....Nick Bockwinkel would announce who would face Red Bastien in his place. Bockwinkel came out alone at first as 'Cowboy' Bob Kelly demanded to know who Bockwinkel's replacement would be but again, Bockwinkel refused to utter one word. As the audience and Bob Kelly vented their frustrations at Bockwinkel, he merely pointed towards the entrance of the arena as his longtime partners in crime, Bobby Heenan and Ray Stevens came to ringside. Heenan announced he was Bockwinkel's manager and any question for the champ had to go through him....
....Heenan announced that Stevens would be Bastien's opponent for the night but Bob Kelly would have the last laugh. Kelly stated that since Bockwinkel did not officially announce who his replacement would be that it was his job as promoter to pick between Bockwinkel's entourage. Kelly stated that Heenan would face Bastien and the place came unglued. An angry Bockwinkel finally spoke his first words and berated Kelly and the fans in attendance before Kelly calmly told the trio that Heenan would face Bastien or Bockwinkel would be suspended without pay....--
Special Challenge Match: Red Bastien def. Bobby Heenan by pinfall.
Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens jumped Red Bastien before the bell as the crowd bayed for Bockwinkel's and Stevens' hide. However, Bob Kelly had security escort Bockwinkel and Stevens to the back and the match was allowed to proceed. A bloodied Bastien pummeled Heenan from pillar to post and won with a series of flying dropkicks.
--
GCCW US Title Quarterfinals: The Destroyer def. Jimmy Snuka by submission.
This match tried to follow the last segment but didn't quite get there. Jimmy Snuka would try for an early SUPERFLY LEAP and miss which allowed The Destroyer to roll Snuka up for the pinfall.
--
GCCW Tag Title Quarterfinal: Mr Saito/Mr Fuji def. Blackjack Mulligan/Masked Superstar by pinfall.
This match was short but was a slobber-knocker form the opening bell. At one point, Blackjack Mulligan had both Fuji/Saito in the CLAWHOLD. However, miscommunication between Mulligan and Superstar led to Mr Fuji dropping the MIDDLE ROPE SPLASH on Mulligan for the victory.
--
GCCW US Title Quarterfinal: Terry Gordy def. Magnum TA by pinfall.
An excellent match between this two that saw Gordy kick out of two BELLY-TO-BELLY SUPLEXES before going on to drop Magnum with the POWERBOMB for the finish. Gordy advances to face The Destroyer in the Semifinals.
--
GCCW Tag Title Quarterfinal: Tommy Rich/Tracy Smothers def. The Fabulous Kangaroos by pinfall.
Many are calling this an upset but the 'Wild-Eyed Southern Boys' dominated large portions of the match. Red Berry would get involved and turn the tide to his 'Roos. The 'Roos hit Rich with the BOOMERANG but Rich was able to drape a foot over the bottom rope at the last second. A hot tag to Tracy Smothers and this match turned in Rich/Smother's favor. With all 4 men in the ring, Smothers dropped Al Costello with the JAWJACKER to earn the win. Rich/Smothers advance to face Mr Fuji/Mr Saito in the Semifinals.
---
MAIN EVENT: Steve Williams def. Johnny Valentine by pinfall.
These two have met once before during the 2014 Champion's Carnival with Valentine going over Williams. However, Williams went on to win his Bracket and go on to lose in the finals to Nick Bockwinkel. Promoter, Bob Kelly named Williams as the #1 Contender but this didn't sit well with Valentine. Valentine confronted Kelly and this match was made with the winner facing Bockwinkel next week in a championship match. Bob Kelly had instructed head referee, Speedy Hatfield, to be lenient as Kelly wanted a clear cut winner. Valentine took advantage of this and continued to push the boundries of getting DQ'd. However, the match would not be without controversy as during a 'ropes' spot, Valentine tried to leapfrog Williams but Williams raised his head and caught Valentine in a 'sensitive area.' Williams waited on Valentine to get to his feet and hit the OKLAHOMA STAMPEDE to get the match with Bockwinkel next week.
