GCCW #21
Mississippi Coliseum; Jackson, MS; 6 March 2015
....We roll into Jackson, Mississippi for the first time with a huge main event as Antonio Inoki faces Nick Bockwinkel in Inoki's 7th match of his Power-10 Series. A win in this match for Inoki would almost secure him a shot at Bockwinkel's GCCW title in the future. The arena was sold out mere hours after this match was announced but there is a great card planned with Mr Fuji/Mr Saito defending the GCCW tag titles against The Bushwackers as well. Let's go to the ring....
--Match #1: The Crusher def. JJ Dillon by pinfall. The Crusher makes his debut this week against a formidable opponent in JJ Dillon. JJ tried to take the fight to Crusher but Crusher overpowered JJ at almost every turn. Being overpowered, JJ had enough and tried to leave the ring, only to get pulled back into the ring and 'crushed' with the CRUSHER BOLO for the finish. The fans ate the Crusher up and he got a loud pop from the crowd when he told them he was going to go through people to get to Nick Bockwinkel. Somewhere Bobby Heenan is having a fit over that news and Ox Baker is getting warmed up in the bullpen.
--Match #2: Angelo Poffo def. Tony Atlas by pinfall.Tony Atlas saved Koko B. Ware and other lower card wrestlers from the bullying tactics of Angelo Poffo and JJ Dillon. However, his tag team with Koko has not fared as well as he had hoped. Tonight, he got his hands on Poffo and Koko was at ringside with Frankie. Tony ran Poffo ragged in the match and looked to set up his PRESS SLAM & SPLASH finisher but Koko made such a commotion outside the ring when one of the kids sitting at ringside tried to give Frankie a cracker. This led to Atlas getting distracted, Poffo low-blowed Tony, and rolled him up with a handful of tights to get the pin. Afterwards, Tony got in Koko's face over the distraction but Koko brushed him off and walked back to the locker room talking to Frankie. This angle just got even stranger....
--Match #3: Magnum TA/Mike Graham def. Rick Rude/Chris Candido w/ Tammy Lynn Sytch by pinfall. One week before Rick Rude defends the GCCW US title against Magnum TA, they face off again in tag team action. Magnum/Graham have one victory over Rude/Candido back on February 13th. Rude wanted no part in Magnum but got a beating from Graham. Rude tagged in Candido but Graham beat him up too. Tammy got involved at this point and turned the tide in her team's favor. Candido and Rude isolated Graham and nearly won the match. The finish came as Rude went to whip Graham into the ropes but Magnum tagged himself in. Rude continued the move, launching Graham into Candido who was standing on the ring apron. Rude went to the ropes and turned around into Magnum's BELLY-TO-BELLY SUPLEX for the pinfall. Can Magnum win the US title next week?
--Match #4: Blackjack Mulligan def. The Warlord by pinfall.Blackjack Mulligan is after a match against Bruiser Brody. Brody's manager, Sir Oliver Humperdink, is trying every trick he can think of to keep that from happening. Mulligan knows that if he keeps winning the GCCW Board of Directors will force Brody and Humperdink's hand. However, Warlord controlled from the opening bell and locks in an early FULL NELSON before Mulligan is barely able to make it to the ropes to break the hold. The tide turned after Warlord uncharacteristically tried a middle rope kneedrop and missed, allowing Mulligan back in the match. Mulligan began breaking Warlord down with his trapezius claw hold and began locking in the CLAWHOLD. It took several tries but Mulligan applied the CLAWHOLD for the 5th time in the match and Warlord's shoulders were counted down for the pinfall. Afterwards, Brody, who wasn't suppose to be in the building, charged down to the ring before stopping just out of Mulligan's reach. Humperdink told Mulligan that would be as close to Brody that he would ever get because he would never agree to have Brody face Mulligan in the ring.
--Match #5: George 'The Animal' Steele def. Hacksaw Jim Duggan by submission.George 'The Animal' Steele came into this match into this match with two wins over Hacksaw Jim Duggan and looked to continue that streak tonight. Duggan requested this match after losing to Steele last week and came out of the gate very quickly. An Old Glory kneedrop and a Tough Guy clothesline led right into the FLYING SPEAR for a big nearfall as Duggan kept up the onslaught. However, once again, George proved to be a tough out. Duggan again made the mistake of sending George into the turnbuckle as George made a meal out of the turnbuckle stuffing. The turnbuckle stuffing seems to recharge George like spinach does Popeye. George fires back and takes complete control of the match. George locks in the FLYING HAMMERLOCK and let go, only to reapply the move over and over again. Finally, George gets serious and locks the hold in fully to get the submission win. EMTs had to help Duggan to the back afterwards because he could not raise his arm.
--Match #6: 2 Cold Scorpio def. Mad Dog Vachon w/ Sir Oliver Humperdink by pinfall. The Vachons have beaten up and bloodied 2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Alexander Bagwell. Last week, Mad Dog was disqualified and demanded a rematch against Scorpio. Mad Dog jumped Scorpio before the bell and kept up the beating throughout but once again, Scoprio proved to be a very tough customer. Vachon hit a Mad Dog Pounce before dropping Scorpio with the first of two PILEDRIVERs during the match but Scorpio miraculously kicked out! A second PILEDRIVER would come minutes later and somehow Scorpio was able to get his foot over the bottom rope. A frustrated Vachon went to the top rope and missed a kneedrop. This allowed Scorpio to hit a moonsault followed by a Tumbleweed to score the pinfall. However, Mad Dog was not done as he motioned to the back and down came his brother, Butcher. The two continued to beat Scorpio until Marcus ALexander Bagwell came down to the ring. It was 2-on-1 and Bagwell was soon on the receiving end of punishment as well. The Vachons spiked Bagwell with a spike PILEDRIVER before Mad Dog turned his attention back to Scorpio. Mad Dog wrapped his chains around both of his fist and pummeled Scorpio until he was bleeding profusely. Finally, security was able to stop the assault but both Scorpio and Bagwell were stretchered out of the ring.
--Match #7: Johnny Valentine/Dan Spivey def. Steve Williams/Terry Gordy by pinfall.Johnny Valentine and Steve Williams have been at each others throats since the inception of GCCW. Now, you add Terry Gordy and Dan Spivey to the mix and the action and violence gets amped up. Valentine and Williams went right at each other from the opening bell but timely distractions by 'Dangerous' Dan kept Johnny fully in control of the action. Gordy made the save after Valentine dropped the ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER on Doc and Spivey saved Johnny after Williams ran over Valentine with the OKLAHOMA STAMPEDE. Gordy and Spiver were tagged in but Valentine and Williams continued to battle each other on the floor. Gordy and Spivey went at each other with a vengeance as well. Gordy drops Spivey with the POWERBOMB but Spivey just sat up from the move (kick out at 1)! Gordy and the crowd were stunned as Spivey hoisted for his own version of the POWERBOMB to get the win! Afterwards, a second POWERBOMB has Doc scrambling to get Gordy out of the ring. Valentine had a big smile on his face as the crowd sat in stone cold silence at what they just saw. Valentine has unleashed a monster!
--Match #8: GCCW tag titles: The Bushwackers def. Mr Fuji/Mr Saito by disqualification. After the suspension to Tommy Rich/Tracy Smothers was announced, the Bushwackers beat Angelo Poffo/JJ Dillon to earn this shot at the tag champs. Mr Fuji/Mr Saito are currently undefeated in GCCW tag competition and are making their second defense of the tag titles tonight. The Bushwackers get their normal enthusiastic reception from the crowd as they always do and start right out of the bell. The champs barely hang on as Butch/Luke are tag team wizards tonight. However, the resiliency by the champs keep them in the match, however, the challengers remain firmly in control. The crowd is on the edge of their seats as they sense a title change in the air but Mr Fuji saves his team and their titles by throwing salt in the eyes of Butch Miller right in front of the referee. The champs grab their belts and head to the back knowing they barely escaped with the belts tonight.
--Match #9: Main Event: Power-10 Series: Antonio Inoki battled Nick Bockwinkel to a double count-out.Normally, title matches main event every card but this match would sell out arenas across the United States and Japan. Inoki knows that getting a win here would guarantee him a shot at Bockwinkel's title. On the other hand, Bock knows that if he wins tonight, Inoki will have trouble reaching that magical 7 wins he set for himself to get a title shot. We get full introductions and an irate Bobby Heenan as Speedy Hatfield sends Ray Stevens and Ox Baker to the locker room before the match. This match went 45 out of the 60 minute time limit it was allotted and could be an early favorite for Match of the Year! Bobby Heenan kept his distance for a huge majority of the match as the two gladiators traded hold for hold throughout. Neither man would hold the advantage over the other for long but the tokens kept piling up after failed finisher attempts. In a sequence that brought the crowd to their feet, Inoki and Bock traded finishers over the course of a few minutes that got a positive response from the crowd. Finally, as the match sped along, Inoki locked Bock in the OCTOPUS HOLD for the 4th time in the match. Heenan sensing his man was faltering jumped onto the ring apron for the distraction to break the hold. Inoki nailed Heenan with a double palm strike that sent the manager flying off the ring apron. Bock charged Inoki but met the same fate as his manager and tumbled from the ring. Inoki went after Bock as the two slugged it out around ringside, Speedy Hatfield called for the double count-out.
Another Friday night of GCCW action concludes. The main event was intense and I am sure Bock and Inoki will meet again somewhere down the line in the near future. A couple of injury updates to announce after the show sees Hacksaw Jim Duggan out of action for about a month due to ligament damage in his shoulder. Billy 'Red' Lyons will fulfill Duggan's GCCW commitments while Duggan is healing. 2 Cold Scorpio and Marcus Alexander Bagwell have been pulled from their GCCW commitments for the near future because of the beatings they have sustained from the Vachons. Area superheroes, Bob/Brad Armstrong will step in for Scorpio/Bagwell until they heal.
**We roll back into the southeastern corner of Alabama next week as the action comes from the Civic Center in Ozark, AL. On top, Rick Rude will defend his GCCW United States title against Magnum TA. Magnum has two wins over Rude in tag team action and looks to claim the title next week. Rude will have Chris Candido and Tammy Lynn Sytch in his corner while Mike Graham will be in Magnum's corner. Tempers will flare but can Magnum walk out the champ? Find out next week.
**$10,000 will be at stake as Bobby Heenan looks to recoup the fines he paid out a few weeks ago for Nick Bockwinkel and Ray Stevens. Johnny Valentine and Red Bastien will be on the other side of the ring, however, the two men are at odds with each other. It seems Heenan got Bastien the next shot at Bockwinkel and Valentine feels that title shot should be his. There is definitely fireworks going into this match and Heenan is counting on Valentine/Bastien turning on each other during the match to get back his money.
**With 2 Cold Scorpio/Marcus Alexander Bagwell on the shelf, the Armstrongs step in to face the Vachons next week. The Armstrongs are super fan favorites in the GCCW area and the Vachons have quickly become the most hated in the area, even surpassing the Heenan Family in that regard. Look for a fight when these two teams hook up next week. It is debatable whether or not Sir Oliver Humperdink will be at ringside for the Vachons as....
**Humperdink has been running his mouth that Blackjack Mulligan will not face Bruiser Brody. He has used every excuse in the book but those excuses may have run out. The GCCW Board of Directors have booked Humperdink against Mulligan next week; saying if Brody won't face Mulligan then Humperdink will. The rotund manager nearly passed out when he heard the news and went to the Board to try and get out of the match. However, the Board insisted the match was already signed and Humperdink will face Mulligan next week. Sources say Mulligan is chomping at the bit to get Humperdink in the ring.
**After an intense and exciting Round 7 of the Power-10 Series, Antonio Inoki faces another tough out in Tony Atlas for Round 8. Tony, who hasn't had the best of results over the past few weeks, is looking to get back on the winning track against Inoki. Inoki, who is 4-2-1 for the Series, has to win the remaining 3 matches to hit the benchmark he set for himself to get at shot at the GCCW title. Inoki has stated he has re-focused on the task at hand starting with Tony Atlas.
**Also on the card, Terry Gordy wants 'Dangerous' Dan Spivey in the ring and next week that will happen....Gordy vs Spivey. The Crusher continues his stated goal of getting to Nick Bockwinkel by facing Heenan Family member, Ox Baker. The Bushwackers return tomaction against the Love Brothers and Koko B. Ware will face the Warlord in the opening match.
....See You Next Week in Ozark, AL....
