Continued excellence from PWIS. So happy to see you back posting your fed again. Awesome title win for the Von Erichs over Aussie Open and also cool to see the newcomers getting some spotlight. Congrats to Jack Cartwheel on his big win.
Oh yeah, and you can never get enough Danhausen! Very nice, very evil... Bring me the monies!

Unfortunate that Aussie Open's run with the tag belts was so short... Hopefully, the Von Erichs will have a more successful stay at the top... That being said, both teams delivered a helluva show in that main event. Orin Veidt continues to look impressive... And of course, I thoroughly enjoyed the post-match antics of Danhausen... Very nice, very evil indeed! This was a slick warmup event for what's coming at Spirit Of Independence... Stoked! I would have liked Aussie Open to hold the belts a bit longer. The way I look at it though, if the Von Erichs were available for the tournament, they may have won in the first place. Orin Veidt... After a busy month or so, I'm back in the saddle. Title tournament results incoming.

I run a tight roster, so I like to feature fresh faces on these special cards and double shots. Some are guys I like but don't fit right now while others are "try outs".

Spirit of Independence 2022
Harpos
Detroit, MI July 4, 2022Commentary: Joe Dombrowski
Ring Announcer: Larry Legend
Referees: Jake Clemons, Kris Levin
All matches contested under Level 1 Rules (strict).
Larry: “Welcome, wrestling fans, to PWIS’ Spirit of Independence 2022!! Tonight from Harpos we will be crowning a new Pro Wrestling Independent Spirit Champion! Eight competitors will face off in three rounds of single-elimination tournament action. The following is a first round match.”
Joe: “Joe Dombrowski here for the call tonight as we look to crown the first PWIS champion in two years. We have gathered some of the best talent independent wrestling has to offer and one of them will emerge tonight as champion. Let’s go to Larry for the introduction.”
The first participant to come to the ring is Jordan Oliver who gets a good reaction from the Detroit crowd. His opponent’s music immediately tells the crowd who it is as they pop for “The King'' Nick Gage. An MDK chant starts up as Gage slams with some of his fans. After things settle down a bit, Gage motions to the entrance and Wes Barkley timidly emerges. His usual long frizzy hair appears to have been straightened and hangs delicately over his shoulders. He instinctively reaches for Gage’s belt loop and they approach the ring.
Joe: “My God. What is going on here?”
As Gage makes a circuit around the ring, Jordan Oliver finds mirth in the situation and comments to the crowd about “Bitch Barkley”. Gage stops and looks up at Oliver who falls quiet. “You better watch yourself, Jordan. Or I might be looking for an upgrade.”
Oliver’s eyes widen with apprehension. Gage pulls up a chair for Wes to sit in at ringside and enters the ring.
First round match
Nick Gage vs. Jordan Oliver
The bell rings and Gage throws up the MDK gang sign and spits at Oliver. Jordan recoils a little and Gage flips him off and attacks. Oliver frantically defends himself but Gage shrugs off and blocks any attempts at offense. Nick begins tearing into Jordan and puts him down hard with a falcon arrow. Gage looks to the crowd to amp them up. “Let’s go!” Gage continues the abuse but Oliver avoids a charge and school boy’s Gage for a near fall. Oliver takes advantage of Gage’s subsequent disorientation and goes on a roll. Klout Krusher by Oliver and Gage rolls out of the ring. Jordan stays aggressive and the two start brawling through the crowd. As expected, Oliver ends up on the losing side of that exchange. Gage continues to beat up Jordan in and out of the ring, then goes for a Chokebreaker. Two count. More fighting outside of the ring. Jordan has had enough and gets fired up. In a crazy spot, Jordan hits a Clout Cutter from the apron that smashes Gage onto the seated Wes Barkley, collapsing the chair. Jordan starts taking the chair to Gage and Barkley! He’s lost it! The ref calls for the bell, disqualifying Oliver.
Joe: “Well, I don’t think anyone would have guessed that it would be Jordan Oliver getting disqualified in this match. Nick Gage moves on to the next round.”
Winner: Nick Gage
The towering Madman Fulton comes down to the ring. With the brackets not being revealed beforehand, the fans in attendance look to the entrance to see who will be next out. Music plays and a beautiful, elegantly dressed woman comes out, pausing for the camera. Fans are long-necking trying to see who it is.
Joe: “Who is…? Wait. That's Selina De La Renta. What’s she doing here?”
Selina smiles and steps aside, giving way to the next competitor to come out - Willie Mack. The fans pop for Da Mack as he comes down to the ring.
Joe: “Selina has managed wrestlers in the past for her Promociones Dorado. Do you mean to tell me that she is representing Willie Mack in PWIS?”
First round match
Willie Mack w/Selina De La Renta vs. Madman Fulton
Willie strikes fast and strikes hard and Fulton takes a powder right away. Selina claps at ringside, getting the crowd hyped for Mack. Fulton and Mack brawl at ringside with the Madman getting the upper hand. Fulton is full-on clobbering Willie with slams and strikes. Mack avoids a rope hung crossbody and makes a brief comeback but Fulton takes control right back. Willie gets thrown out to the floor where Selina helps him back into the ring. Mack continues taking a beating and Fulton goes to the top for Madness Airlines. Cover. Two count. Willie blocks a falcon arrow attempt with a Big Wiggle Slam putting Fulton down hard on the mat. Another big brawl on the floor. Selina is badgering the ref to get control of the match. The fight goes back and forth. Stunner by Mack! Two count. Willie softens Fulton up for another Stunner. Pinfall! Selina gets in the ring to raise her man’s hand.
Joe: “Willie Mack with the hard fought victory. But how much does he have left for the second round?”
Winner: Willie Mack
As soon as his music starts to play, fans begin booing Chris Masters. “The Masterpiece'' arrogantly strides to the ring, basking in the fan’s contempt. Rey Horus receives the opposite reaction as fans welcome the luchador as he makes his entrance. Masters has a questioning look on his face as if not recognizing who his opponent is. As Horus gets in the ring, Masters mocks his height but Rey just nods and lets Chris know he’s ready to go.
First round match
Rey Horus vs. Chris Masters
In classic fashion, Horus used his agility and Masters used his power to execute their respective offenses. Scoop powerslam by Masters gets a two count. Horus comes back and gets a near fall after an overhead suplex into the corner. Backbreaker stretch has Rey nearly submitting. Sitout spinebuster by Masters. Two count. Horus is in trouble. Masters works the back. Another backbreaker stretch. Horus taps out!
Joe: “Rey Horus gave it his all but he was not a match for the power of 'The Masterpiece' this night.”
Winner: Chris Masters
Larry Legend is ready for the introductions of the final first round match. Calvin Tankman makes his entrance and is soon joined by the number one seed, undefeated at 6-0, Lee Moriarty.
First round match
Lee Moriarty vs. Calvin Tankman
In another clash of style and finesse against brute force, it’s Moriarty getting the early near fall with a surprise roll up. Moriarty is a non-stop technical machine, out-grappling the bigger man. Lee’s roll comes to a sudden stop when Tankman drives him into the mat with a sitout powerbomb. Moonsault by Tankman! Moriarty kicks out at the last moment. Lee tries a comeback but Calvin halts him with a pair of brainbusters. Backbreaker and lariat. Two count. Moriarty is getting repeatedly crushed into the mat. Moriarty fights back but Pounce! Moriarty almost catches Tankman with a rolling European Clutch. Taigadriver X for a near fall. The tables are turning. A dazzling technical display by Moriarty into another Taigadriver X. Kick out. Joint Custody and Tankman taps out!
Joe: “What a come-from-behind win by Lee Moriarty in what’s an early pick for match of the night!”
Winner: Lee Moriarty
Round two kicks off with the participants for the first semifinal coming to the ring. Nick Gage, Wes Barkley in tow, seems surly after what went down in his first round match. The crowd begins dueling chants when Willie Mack comes out. The room is split on a favorite. Selina wanders in the vicinity of Wes and turns her nose up in disgust at the state of Barkley.
Semi-final match
Willie Mack w/Selina De La Renta vs. Nick Gage
The bell rings and Willie puts Gage down with a corkscrew elbow. Gage is on the mat trying to shake off the effects of the blow and, seizing the moment, Willie scales the turnbuckles. Six Star Frog Splash! Cover. No way - kick out. Willie goes up again. Six Star Frog Splash. Hooks the leg. Three count! Mack steamrolls Gage and is in the finals!
Joe: “Um… ‘Wow’ is all I can say. Willie Mack defeats Nick Gage and, like the crowd here in Harpos, I am in shock.”
Winner: Willie Mack
Lee Moriarty comes back out, walking slowly, clearly showing the wear from his first round match whereas Chris Masters looks fresh during his entrance.
Semi-final match
Lee Moriarty vs. Chris Masters
Joe: “This is a first time meeting between these two competitors. The winner goes on to face Willie Mack in the finals for the PWIS Championship.”
Masters comes out aggressively, looking to take advantage of his worn down opponent. Moriarty is scrappy and evades Masters’ grasp. Moriarty catches Masters out of nowhere with a Taigadriver X. Near fall has Masters’ attention. Hammerlock DDT and cradle by Moriarty. Two. Tornado DDT transitions into Joint Custody. Masters quickly gets to the ropes for the break. Mousetrap Pin by Lee but Masters easily powers out. Masters is on his heels as Moriarty throws kicks at him. Masters reverses a backdrop attempt with a piledriver and throws Lee out to the floor. Chair shot by Masters but the ref let’s it go. Moriarty fights back but gets caught in The Masterlock! It looks like it’s over for Moriarty but he persists and pushes off from the corner buckle to escape the hold. Masters slams him with a sitout spinebuster and reapplies The Masterlock. There is no escape this time as Moriarty succumbs to the hold, dropping his first match in PWIS. Afterward, Masters looks into the camera and has some words for the office: “Hey, Bossman Joe. You starting to regret putting me in this tournament? Two down, one to go.”
Winner: Chris Masters
Larry Legend states that there will be a brief intermission and encourages the fans in attendance to patronize the concession stand. “Juicy hotdogs for everyone to enjoy.”
Back from intermission, The Major Players make their entrance for the next match. Matt Cardona gets into it with some of the ringside fans and has a middle finger for all of them. Ironbeast charge out of the back and attack the Majors. Shane Mercer tosses Cardona into the ring and the referee calls for the bell to start the match.
Ironbeast vs. The Major Players
Joe: “We’re seeing the animosity between the members of Been To the Show and Godz of Destruction.”
Mercer throws Cardona with a Gif Plex. Matt is already reaching for the tag but Brian Myers is still scuffling on the floor with KTB. Some back and forth until Mercer tags in KTB and they combine for a Gif Plex & powerbomb. Cardona turns the tide and gets heat on KTB. Myers tags in for the Long Island Express. Two count. Spear by Myers! Near fall. Cardona is back in. Long Island Express! Last second kick out. Cardona is on the refs case about the count. Jumping Leg Lariat. Myers pulls Mercer from the apron. Three count. The Major Players take it home.
Joe: “Cardona and Myers steal the win but I have a feeling things aren’t over between these two teams.”
Winners: The Major Players
Anticipation for the finals has the crowd worked up and a round of boos greet Chris Masters as he walks the aisle one more time. He jaws at the camera again: “Getting scared yet, Joe? Your worst nightmare is about to become champion of your company.”
Joe: “Chris… Just… just wrestle…”
Willie Mack and Selina approach the ring for the final confrontation with the fans totally on their side.
Joe: “This is it fans! The action will take place between two more bells, after which we will have a new PWIS Champion. May the best man win. And, yes, this includes you Chris Masters.”
PWIS CHAMPIONSHIP
Willie Mack w/Selina De La Renta vs. Chris Masters
Masters charges at the bell and Willie ducks a clothesline. In a role reversal, it’s Masters getting tossed around the ring. Rip Tire Cannonball and Willie covers for two. The crowd is hyped and Selina urges her man on. Pop-Up Stunner! Masters is rocked! Three count! A shocked expression spreads wildly throughout the room. From Masters to Willie to Selina to the fans. Willie Mack is the the new PWIS Champion in explosive fashion.
Joe: “Ladies and gentleman, history is made and… I’m at a loss for words. Amazing performance on the night by your new champion - Willie Mack!”
Winner: Willie Mack
The title belt presentation takes a few more minutes before Joe signs off.

Da' Mack was on the warpath! And having Salina in his corner certainly doesn't hurt... Fingers crossed for a memorable reign.
Too bad Moriarty's undefeated streak has reached its end... But, it had to happen at some point... I'm certain that we'll never hear the end of it from Masters. HA! And I'm still intrigued by the Gage/Barkley angle... Eager to watch it develop further.
The tournament was put together very well, even though a couple of the matches were a little short on runtime... The bonus tag team match between the Players and Ironbeast was great as well... Awesome fun, as always!

Awesome fun, as always! I was pleased overall with the results of the tournament if not them playing out as five-star as one might like. Going in, there were two promoter hopefuls for winner and they both ended up in the final. So not bad. I am okay with Moriarty's winning streak ending here. If he was going to hit the wall, better it be high stakes against strong competition. He'll bounce back I am sure. With the first six months of game time in the books and a champion crowned, I can now focus on the various programs I've been brewing up that should carry out through the rest of the year, starting with the Gage/Barkley angle. And you bring up not hearing the end of it from Masters about the results of this show - he hasn't even started to make noise. You also mentioned the first champion having a memorable title reign. I want that too and something is being instituted that may facilitate it. Announcement coming shortly. Thanks as always for tuning in!

I really like the way you present your fed. The drop-in commentary serves as nice punctuation to the synopsized match results. Really good flow. Great job!

I've done a fair share of feds but this is the one I put the most creative energy into. It's always gratifying when someone appreciates what I'm doing. I know my style isn't for everyone, so those who do like it are very welcome.

Champion's Advantage
"Greetings, wrestling fans! Joe Dombrowski here for Pro Wrestling Independent Spirit. Well, how about that? We have our first champion since before the pandemic. Congratulations to Willie Mack. We couldn’t ask for a better representative for our promotion. And since we are on the subject, let’s talk about a professional wrestling trope that is often referred to as the ‘champion’s advantage’. This refers to the long-standing tradition of champions in pro wrestling only being able to lose the title if they are pinned or forced to submit. Meaning that count outs, disqualifications, what have you, can be used as a loophole when one’s title reign is in trouble. Thus the ‘champion’s advantage’. Here at PWIS, we want the champion’s advantage to be more than a cheap tactic. We want it to be part of the playing field so to speak. This is where our three tier rules structure comes into play. The champion will be allowed to declare which level of rules he wishes to defend the title under. Strict and by the book, relaxed rules, or no holds barred? The champion can be forthright and commit to a choice ahead of time or wait until the bell is about to ring. This provides the champion a strategic element when it comes to title defenses that can play to their strengths or limit their opponent’s. The nuances are abundant. We hope this lends a new level to not only the competition but the fans enjoyment of the matches. Let us know what you think in the comments section."

Really like this 'champion's advantage' concept... Kinda like choosing the battlefield... Nice work!
