YOUR MID-WEEK UPDATE FOR PRO WRESTLING INDEPENDENT SPIRIT

"Hello, everyone! My name is Louden Noxious and this is a special edition of the PWIS News Wire. Last week, Pro Wrestling Independent Spirit crowned its first champion, Rob Van Dam. RVD came out on top of a field of sixteen competitors. We congratulate Van Dam and look forward to his future title defenses. But the championship is not the only thing new in PWIS. Some of you may have already noticed a few changes on our show last Sunday.

PWIS has been a success beyond all expectation. Our roster has grown more than we could have anticipated with talent from all over the country wanting to participate in our little project. Growth leads to expansion and change. Our initial format was to bring a group of top talent to each locale we would co-promote. To better serve our fans and wrestlers, we feel it is necessary to set up a stable assemblage in each region we visit. We fully intend to maintain our partnerships with the local indy promotions. Only now we will have specific personel based in each area. This includes wrestlers and other associated personalities. We want each of these shows to be consistent and develop their own flavor of the PWIS action you are used to. We will also continue to have our champions and a selection of top stars on a circuit, appearing at as many of these localized shows as possible. Some of these top stars are familiar faces that have been travelling for us so far. Others include stars voted by the fans in the Spirit of Independence poll. We intend to rotate wrestlers in and out of this select group to keep it fresh and to ensure the best competitors get the maximum exposure.

Right now, I want to give you a brief summary of each of these new shows and what you may expect from them. Each week we will spotlight a different one, much like we have been. We have taken our top performers to this point and seeded them in each region so there will be guaranteed name recognition on the marquee. Each area will also have their own rankings with the top dogs in line to take on the PWIS Champion.

PWIS - PA: Based out of Pennsylvania, PWIS-PA will hit towns throughout the state. These shows are intended to be family-friendly and emphasize entertainment and fun. Here you will see the likes of Mike Quackenbush, Delirious, and the dastardly Ultramantis Black. The action will be wild and a little wacky.

PWIS - Chicago: Coming to you from the Windy City, these shows will prove to have more edge and attitude. There might be more fighting than wrestling and the crowds could get rowdy. Here you will see Colt Cabana, Robert Anthony, and others who will not fail to raise the roof.

PWIS - OHIO: Coming out of Cleveland and hitting the Midwest will be the the kind of wrestling we all grew up with. No-nonsense grappling where the good guys are good guys and the bad guys are just plain bad. Expect old-school action from 2 Cold Scorpio, Ricky Landell, and the Samoan Island Tribe.

PWIS - Mid-Atlantic: From North Carolina you're going to get the down and dirty southern style wrasslin' we all know and love. Quirky personalities, heated rivalries, and the unexpected. This is where you will find Necro Butcher, Arik Royal, and Tracy Smothers.

PWIS - Excellence: Our shows originating from suburban Chicago will be the first to feature an alternate format. As the name implies, Excellence is about the best wrestling has to offer with an emphasis on competition. You won't see hardcore here but it will be hard-hitting. The wrestlers here will be less about the talk and more about the walk. The rules are the same but how you win or lose will determine your success. Winning by pin or submission is the only way to move up the ranks. And losing by disqualification will automatically drop you to the bottom of the ladder. Bryan Danielson, Austin Aries, and Kevin Steen will be here trying to prove who is the best.

You can also expect more special events as we move forward. Jushin 'Thunder' Liger will continue to make appearances through the month of July. And towards the end of the Summer we will be starting our first inter-gender tag team tournament that will carry us into the Fall. Plus other surprises are in store.

So, there you have it. The new-look PWIS. The frame may have changed but the picture is the same: great independent wrestling action!"

I see. You could use Franchises or Branches too, but either way the PWIS truly is well written...

INTRO

The show opens with a highlight package from the last Chicago show. Adam Pearce and Ken Doane were suspended for their actions which led to Mike Quackenbush being injured. Eddie Kingston and Afa, Jr. had a brutal war in the ring. Rob Van Dam and Robert Anthony had a classic one-on-one contest with RVD coming out on top.

(Louden Noxious and Adam Pearce are calling the action)

LOUDEN: "Good evening everyone. I'm Louden Noxious and I'm here with Adam Pearce. I thought you were suspended, Adam."
ADAM: "I'm on a voluntary hiatus."

MATCH #1

Danny Doring vs. Icarus

LOUDEN: "Icarus is making his PWIS debut but he is well known to fans of the Chikara promotion."
ADAM: "What's wrong with that guy?"
LOUDEN: "What do you mean?"
ADAM: "I don't like the looks of him. And how old is Doring anyway? He's still acting like a frat boy. I don't care for either of these guys."
LOUDEN: "Now there's a surprise."
ADAM: "Quiet, idiot!"
Both men took turns putting the other through their paces. Despite a few signiture moves and finishers, neither man can get the win before the fifteen minute time limit expires. As Doring exits, he snatches someone's beer glass and downs it on his way back to the dressing room.

Winner: TIME LIMIT DRAW

Drake Younger and Eddie Kingston are in Commissioner Charlie Cox's office. Afa, Jr. is also present. Kingston and Afa are scheduled for a rematch tonight but Kingston balks.
EDDIE: "I already whipped this slob's ass. I don't see why I have to fight him again."
CHARLIE: "Hey, that's the match I have scheduled. If you want to be on tonight's show, then you're going to have to deal with it."
Younger whispers something in Kingston's ear.
EDDIE: "Maybe this big p***y wants to up the ante. Let's make it falls-count-anywhere. If you're not too scared, you piece of s**t."
Afa makes a move towards Kingston but Cox intervenes.
AFA: "Make it happen , Charlie. I'm gonna beat this son-of-a-bitch's ass."
Cox relents and as Younger and Kingston leave, we can hear Younger say 'all too easy'.

MATCH #2

Roderick Strong vs. Jigsaw

Strong thrashes Jigsaw in a very one-sided match. Backbreakers, Yakuza kicks and a running lariat put away Jigsaw.

Winner: Roderick Strong

MATCH #3

Falls Count Anywhere

Eddie Kingston vs. Afa, Jr.

Afa throws Kingston around, inside of the ring and out. A throat drop on the barricade and a bodyslam through the merch table and Kingston is in trouble. Then through the announcer's table. The fans are going wild. Kingston tries to escape to the back. He crawls down the hall with the enraged Samoan stalking him. Kingston pushes the door to the Commissioner's office open, looking for a place to hide. But there is nowhere to run as Afa powerbombs him on Cox's desk and pins him. Afa returns to ringside with his arms raised and the fans freak out. Cox goes to the room with security and tells them to 'get this a**hole out of my office'.

Winner: Afa, Jr.

Intermission: Louden brings out PWIS Champion Rob Van Dam. The fans cheer the champ who thanks them for their support. He announces that his first title defense will be on August 4th on PWIS - Excellence. His opponent has not been determined yet but whoever it is, he will be ready for them. In the meantime, he says that next week he will be in a six-man tag team match teaming with the PWIS Tag Team Champions, the Naptown Dragons. More cheering from the crowd.

MATCH #4

Colt Cabana vs. Drake Younger

ADAM: "Cabana is a clown. I want to see Younger tear him apart."
Colt starts the match with his innovative offense, making Younger look bad . Despite taking both of Colt's finishers, Drake fights back. Colt survives two Drake's Landings. Having trouble defeating Colt conventionally, Younger starts rummaging under the ring. Colt recovers and reaches through the ropes to grab Younger. As Cabana leans through the ropes, Younger produces a light tube and smashes it over the back of Colt's head. The ref is oblivious to what has happened. Drake jumps back in the ring and cradles Colt for the win. The ref, seeing Cabana bleeding, fails to comprehend what has happened. Younger heads back up the ramp, rubbing his hands together after a job well done. Cox runs down to the ring and inspects the scene screaming at the ref. "Are you blind?!"
ADAM: "That was great!"

Winner: Drake Younger

MATCH #5

Chris Hero w/Jonny Fairplay vs. Robert Anthony

The crowd is on Fairplay's case the second he comes through the curtain. At the bell Hero tries a double-leg but Anthony stuffs him and gets his own takedown and quickly turns it into a Boston Crab. In pain, Hero drags himself to the ropes and the ref calls for the break. Hero rolls out of the ring clutching his back. Anthony flies over the top rope with a somersault plancha, flattening Hero. Fairplay has to help Hero to his feet to beat the countout. The match continues and it's all Robert Anthony as he puts together an awesome array of moves. Taco Pizza puts the finishing touch on the whirlwind of offense. After the match, RVD comes out and congratulates Anthony and asks the crowd if maybe he should get a title shot. The fans shout there approval as RVD raises Anthony's hand.

Winner: Robert Anthony

MAIN EVENT

Jushin Liger vs. Claudio Castagnoli

The competitors shake hands before the bell. Castagnoli opens up with some brutal European uppercuts and scissor kicks. Liger evades Claudio and hits him with a shoda and follows with a Fisherman's Buster for a two count. Some more big moves from Liger and another Fisherman's Buster but, again, only a two count. Liger's flurry, keeps Claudio off balance until the big Swiss star temporarily puts it to a halt with his superior strength. The action is back and forth for some time with the fans eating it up. Huge pops for a couple of sensational Liger Dives. Castagnoli finally goes down after a rolling koppo kick.

Winner: Jushin Liger

AFTERMATH

Commissioner Cox's Office

Cox is standing behind his desk yelling at Drake Younger who is nonchalantly leaning against the opposite wall. Eddie Kingston, looking a little worse for wear, is slumped in a chair next to the desk.
CHARLIE: "Well, Drake, I should be thanking you. That stunt out there takes us full circle. We were right here in Chicago the last time I suspended you and now I have reason, the same reason, to do it again. (Kingston gives a weak chuckle from his chair) What are you laughing about?"
Younger pushes himself away from the wall and leans on the desk with both hands, smiling. "You just don't get it, do you Charlie-boy? Suspension or not... guaranteed appearances. We're going to be on shows and there's nothing you can do about it. Better read our contracts again."
Drake turns around and leaves the office. Cox is flummoxed. Kingston deliberately pushes himself up out of the chair and suddenly slams his palm down on the top of Cox's desk, startling the Commissioner. "Nice desk," he grunts. "Sturdy."
Kingston leaves as well. An angry Cox picks up the phone and starts dialing.

Adam Pearce on commentary right out of the gate added a great vibe to the show. I really loved "I'm on a voluntary hiatus." by Pearce and his comments about Danny Doring & Icarus, great work. The action was Solid too, it's good to see Drake Younger win and his interaction with Charlie Cox was awesome...

You know what's funny is, I just watched an ROH show and Steve Corino said almost the exact same 'frat boy' comment about Roderick Strong. I plagiarized without even knowing it. Weird.

VIDEO SEGMENT: Adam Pearce sits in a chair, elbows on his thighs leaning forward, addressing the camera.
"I have been in this business a while and I feel I have accomplished enough to say that I have something to offer to the younger wrestlers coming up. It's important for the veterans to share their knowledge. Look at what I have done for Ken Doane. If not for baised officials, he may very well be the PWIS Champion right now. There is another young man out there, who is by no means a rookie, that needs that final piece of the puzzle. That little bit of guidance to take him to the next level. Ricky Landell, I think I can provide you the mentoring you have been missing until now. This Sunday in Cleveland, you have a match that could put you in contender-ship for the PWIS title. You'll be facing 2 Cold Scorpio in what could be a make or break match for you. Right now, I'm asking you to consider my tutelage for at least this one match. It's not that I don't think you can win on your own. But with me at ringside with you...? You can't lose."

July 28th: Commissioner Charlie Cox has promised a solution to his Drake Younger/Eddie Kingston problem when PWIS - Mid-Atlantic returns.

August 4th: PWIS - Excellence will host Rob Van Dam's first PWIS title defense. While it is still not clear who his opponent will be, the field has narrowed. Chris Hero is in the running and his match this week against Jushin Liger will definitely carry a lot weight with the Competition Committee's decision. Roderick Strong is also in the mix but is currently scheduled to meet Liger on 8/4. And what about RVD's own choice for a challenger, Robert Anthony? Commissioner Charlie Cox responds to this notion: "Robert Anthony has undoubtedly made some inroads towards championship contention. However, the champion does not choose his challengers. RVD may be Anthony's number one fan right now, but the we're not about to see our champions hand out title shots to their friends."
