Was Austin Idol ever a big draw outside of his home territory? I understand that they're trying to use him as link to the NWA's past but they should probably use someone that at least held the belt in the glory days. Although there aren't a lot of those left...

Outside of Memphis....he had a decent run in Georgia and probably Alabama but after the plane crash cut on his traveling, not very much.

I hope Tim Storm is OK. Hoping they didn't take the belt off of him because of an injury or something. This new direction seems patch work writing. I don't think of NWA when I hear Austin Idol, and I'm not sure his many people have ever heard of "Nick Aldis".

Especially as Austin's main promotion (Memphis) was more an AWA town than an NWA town.

This is what I was assuming would happen. I feel like they are doing things for the sake of headlines right now, trying to get media attention. Aldis taking the title makes headlines. Storm winning it back makes more.

I'll never forget Austin Idol and Tommy Rich with Paul E. Dangerously shaving the head of Jerry Lawler in a steel cage. It's great to see the "Universal Heartthrob" back in the spotlight as manager of new NWA champ Nick "Magnus" Aldis.

Per Ethan Page: "Well, I did hear, I don't know if David Starr is going to be upset I'm saying this, but I think David Starr got brought up to wrestle Tim Storm, and they said that he was too small and they needed someone bigger. So I assume it has to do with...I guess they're going for that legitmate NWA classic pro wrestler, like a[n] 80's style body."
If this is true then they're really limiting their potential challenger and champion pool both in terms of variety and, frankly, talent.

The newest 10 Pounds of Gold makes me think they're setting up a rematch down the line.
