LOW Lucha MAX - King of Trios - Day Session - El Toreo de Cuatro Caminos - Naucalpan, Mexico (Card #1330)
* LUCHA Max owner Karlee Perez made her way to the ring flanked by her right hand man Ultramantis Black, LOW Commissioner Teddy Long and IWA Commissioner David Marquez in front of a capacity crowd at the famed bullring. She thanked everyone for attending the day session of King of Trios where the entire first round would play out setting the stage for the finals and some special matches during the night session. The night session would include a big Lucha MAX grudge match as the representative of Perez, “The Machine” Brian Cage, would face Mil Muertes, managed by Salina de la Renta, in a Steel Cage Match.
After some choice words for de la Renta and Muertes. she turned the mic over to Marquez. The proud IWA Commissioner, freshly arrived from a big event in Chicago, informed everyone that the three mutually agreed that all managers, valets or seconds would be barred from ringside for the tournament matches. He wished all of the teams well but said that his heart lies with the representatives of the IWA. Finally, Long took the mic and congratulated Perez on putting together this huge event, featuring a staggering ninety-six competitors in the first round, and said may the best team win and be crowned the first ever LOW Trios champions. Long then exclaimed “you know that I love tag team matches so let’s get this show underway, Holla Holla!” drawing cheers from the crowd.
King of Trios – Opening Round - Quick Results:
1) Bulldog Dynasty (Davey Boy Smith, Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith Jr.) defeated Giant Bernard, Terex & Voodoo Kaos
(Dynamite Kid pinned Giant Bernard - Tombstone Piledriver)
* The Bulldog Dynasty (Davey Boy Smith, Dynamite Kid & Davey Boy Smith Jr.) from World of Sport were the first team to advance as they defeated the Bullet Club trio of Giant Bernard, Terex & Voodoo Kaos representing Kings Road United. This was an action packed bout with some great moments, including the Bulldog’s rallying after Terex missed the Definition of Pain. Smith, Jr. almost won it after a double head butt attack on Bernard by the Bulldogs but that was broken up. Kid tagged in and impressively powered the 330-pound Bernard up for a Tombstone Piledriver for the pin as the Bulldog’s cut off a save attempt by Terex and Kaos.
2) Dream Team (Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine) & Bobby Shane defeated SoCal Uncensored (Christopher Daniels, Kazarian & Scorpio Sky)
(Brutus Beefcake pinned Kazarian - Scoop Up Body Slam)
* The IWA team of SoCal Uncensored (“Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels, Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) took on the Dream Team, Brutus Beefcake & Greg Valentine, and their partner the “King of Wrestling” Bobby Shane representing the CWA. SCU were on point and had their foes at a serious disadvantage, including hitting the Lariat & Chop Block Combo and a Shining Wizard for big near falls. Kazarian was key on both of those chances but in the end he fell in controversial fashion as Beefcake pinned him after a Scoop Up Body Slam while Shane held onto his legs from the floor.
3) Da Soul Touchaz (Marshe Rocket, Acid Jaz & Willie Richardson) defeated Daga, Sammy Guevera & Kid Lykos by Count Out
* The independent team of Da Soul Touchaz (“Mr. M80” Marshe Rockett, Acid Jaz & Willie “Da Bomb” Richardson), frequent participants in past King of Trios events in CHIKARA, faced the Lucha MAX team of Daga, Sammy Guevera & Kid Lykos. The crowd really got behind Da Soul Touchaz and were particularly impressed by Rockett who put on an aerial show. A tough bout ended up on the floor with all six men battling it out and it was Richardson, the legal man, hitting a 290-pound Pounce on Guevera knocking him over the barrier. Richardson then made it back in scoring a count out victory for his team.
4) Playboy Buddy Rose, Dr. Tom Prichard & Brian Pillman Jr. defeated blue World order (Stevie Richards, Blue Meanie & Super Nova) by DQ
* The popular blue World order (Stevie Richards, Blue Meanie & Super Nova) of ECW took on First Family members Playboy Buddy Rose, Dr. Tom Prichard & Brian Pillman Jr. of PCW. This turned into a one-sided affair late as the First Family team got the heat on Richards for an extended stretch. The bWo leader was in rough shape as Pillman Jr. struck with a German Suplex barrage going for the pin but Meanie and Nova ran in to break it up. The bWo then cleared the ring before launching a triple-team attack on Pillman Jr. which resulted in the referee calling for the bell. It was a controversial disqualification win for Rose, Prichard and Pillman who moved on to the next round.
5) Curt Hennig, Tully Blanchard & CW Anderson defeated Pepper Gomez, Scott Casey & Tiger Conway Jr.
(Tully Blanchard pinned Tiger Conway Jr. - Snake Eyes - Slingshot Suplex)
* The New Age Horsemen team of Curt Hennig, Tully Blanchard & “The Enforcer” CW Anderson representing the CWA went up against some big fan favorites from PCW in Pepper Gomez, “Cowboy” Scott Casey & Tiger Conway Jr. Gomez, a native of Mexico by way of Mexico City, got a great welcome from the crowd. He didn’t disappoint them as he was a key star in the match, including nearly winning it with the Mexican Cradle on Blanchard. Both teams featured excellent runs on offense and quick tags setting a great pace to the bout. Conway Jr., who earlier survived a Shotgun Superkick from Anderson, hit a dropkick on Blanchard in the closing moments for another near fall. Conway Jr. went for a deathjump but was picked off by Blanchard who followed with a Slingshot Suplex for a snake eyes pin sending the Horsemen into the next round.
6) Vampiro, Pirata Morgan & Rey Bucanero defeated Bandido, Rey Horus & Laredo Kid
(Pirata Morgan over Laredo Kid by Submission - Pirata Lock, a crossfaced scissored armbar)
* Revenge was on the mind of Bandido as he teamed with fellow tecnicos Rey Horus and Laredo Kid against the rudos trio of Vampiro, Pirata Morgan & Rey Bucanero in this all Lucha MAX showdown. Bandido was just cleared to return to action after having been out courtesy of an injury inflicted on him by Bucanero. That thirst for revenge also led to frustration as Bucanero frequently avoided contact with Bandido. This fast paced encounter saw Bandido and his teammates dominate including Horus nearly pinning Vampiro with a Cazador Bomb. The veteran Morgan, however, resorted to violence on the outside and took it home scoring a submission on Laredo Kid with his patented Pirata Lock.
7) Fit Finlay, David Taylor & Nigel McGuinness defeated Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov
(David Taylor pinned Nikolai Volkoff - British Suplex)
* It was a battle of rudos teams as the Iron Sheik, Nikolai Volkoff & Boris Zhukov representing PCW took on World of Sport representatives Fit Finlay, David Taylor & Nigel McGuinness. Sheik, who previously competed in WOS, had a great exchange with Finlay in the early going concluding with the Iranian star hitting a sidewinder suplex. Things built up from there and it was a real tough fight between the two teams. Volkoff, who earlier survived the Jawbreaker Lariat from McGuinness, was not so fortunate when Taylor caught him with the British Suplex for the Pin.
8) Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish & Kyle O'Reilly defeated Giant Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta & The Destroyer
(Roderick Strong pinned Giant Baba - Sick Kick)
* The first half of the bracket ended with an upset as the Undisputed Era trio of Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly, representing the IWA, scored a victory over heavy tournament favorites Giant Baba, Jumbo Tsuruta & The Destroyer representing Kings Road United. This was a great back-and-forth bout featuring tremendous offensive runs from all six men. There were a few near falls building to an exciting finish which saw Strong surprise the much larger Baba with an Olympic Slam for a two count. Then, as Fish and O’Reilly took out Tsuruta and The Destroyer, it was Strong blitzing Baba with the Sick Kick to score the pin. Strong looked on shocked at his win over the legendary Baba but Baba showed great class in leading his teammates to shaking hands with the victorious Undisputed Era.
9) Hillbilly Jim & Bear Country Bear Boulder & Bear Bronson) defeated Val Venis & Too Cool (Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor)
(Hillbilly Jim pinned Val Venis - Snake Eyes - Scoop Slam)
* The popular ECW trio of Hillbilly Jim & Bear Country, Bear Boulder & Bear Bronson, took on the independent trio of Val Venis & Too Cool, “Grandmaster Sexay” Brian Christopher & Scott Taylor. This one took less time than the “Don’t Go Messin’ With a Country Boy” ring entrance for Jim and Bear Country. As Boulder and Bronson took out Too Cool, Big Jim took the measure of Venis and executed a Scoop Slam and press for a snake eyes pin. The crowd cheered on as Jim and Bear Country did a post-match jig much to the disgust of Venis, Christopher and Taylor.
10) Kevin Sullivan & The Pitbulls defeated Dino Monkeys (Pitbull #1 pinned Space Monkey - Running Power Slam)
* The aptly named Dino Monkeys consisting of Luchasaurus and Los El Monos del Espacio, Space Monkey & Cymbal Monkey, representing Lucha MAX had their hands full taking on the violent ECW trio of Kevin Sullivan & The Pitbulls, Pitbull #1 & Pitbull #2. This was a beatdown by Sullivan and his men who got the heat on Luchasaurus for an extended stretch. The Monkey duo finally got in and had some success, but that ended quickly when The Pitbulls assaulted Space Monkey on the outside before Pitbull #1 planted him with a Running Power Slam for the pin.
11) Super Crazy, El Generico & Juventud Guerrera defeated Kevin Condron, Gringo Loco & Sam Adonis
(El Generico pinned Sam Adonis - Brainbustaaahhh!!!)
* Another all Lucha MAX showdown saw the tecnicos trio of Super Crazy, El Generico & Juventud Guerrera taking on the rudos team of “Killer” Kevin Condron, Gringo Loco & Sam Adonis. This was a fast paced and exciting bout that saw Condron, Loco and Adonis more than hold their own against their heavily favored opponents. It really could have gone either way but in the end it was Generico nailing Adonis with his patented Brainbustaaahhh!!! To score the pin.
12) Los Ingobernables (Rush, Killer Kross & Homicide) defeated Jushin Liger, Wani & Wheeler Yuta
(Rush pinned Wani - Flying Bodypress)
* Rush led Killer Kross and Homicide, the rudos trio known as Los Ingobernables in Lucha MAX, into battle against the Kings Road United team of Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Wani & Wheeler Yuta. Los Ingobernables were among the heavily favored teams going into the tournament and it showed here as they put on a dominating performance. Liger fared well against Rush during one stretch but it was downhill from there. The finish saw Rush rough up Wani before coming off of the top rope deathjump style with a Flying Bodypress to score the pin.
13) Eddie Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert & Doug Gilbert defeated Dan Severn, Johnny Saint & Tracy Williams
(Doug Gilbert pinned Johnny Saint - Piledriver)
* The controversial Gilbert Family of “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert & “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert from ECW took on World of Sport stars Dan “The Beast” Severn, Johnny Saint & “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams. Severn led his team fully into battle as they dominated for a good stretch, with “The Beast” nearly putting “Hot Stuff” out with a Choke Sleeper. Saint in kind nearly tapped out Eddie with the Three In One but he was able to get a rope break. The finishing stretch saw Tommy Gilbert come up with a near fall on Saint with a back suplex. Eddie then blindsided Saint with a foreign object allowing Doug, who had tagged in, to nail him with a Piledriver for the pin.
14) Mil Mascaras, Konnan & Prince Puma defeated MJF, Ricky Starks & Austin Theory
(Mil Mascaras pinned MJF - Snake Eyes - Flying Bodypress)
* The legendary Mil Mascaras, a record seven-time LOW World Heavyweight champion, teamed with Konnan and Prince Puma as Lucha MAX representatives taking on the arrogant IWA trio of MJF, “Absolute” Ricky Starks & Austin Theory. MJF, or Maxwell Jacob Friedman, called out Mascaras during the ring introductions but failed to bait him. Instead, Mascaras chose to use his ring technique to frustrate MJF and leave him screaming bloody murder. The finish of a fairly quick match saw Mascaras hit his trademark Flying Bodypress on MJF to score a snake eyes pin. MJF was beside himself post-match going after the referee and complaining of a quick count. Starks and Theory had to restrain him but then all three were quickly disposed of by the victorious Mascaras, Konnan and Puma drawing cheers from the crowd.
15) Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Barreta & Orange Cassidy) defeated Masked Superstar II, Dan Spivey & Kurrgan by Count Out
* The popular Best Friends team of Chuck Taylor, Trent Barreta & Orange Cassidy, representing the IWA, had a tall order, literally, as they took on the large independent trio of Masked Superstar II, “Dangerous” Dan Spivey & Kurrgan. With Spivey the “shortest” at 6’7” it was going to take some heavy lifting for Best Friends to pull it out. In fact, it took TTE (Total Team Effort) for that to happen. The size and power of their opposition proved formidable, with Kurrgan nearly winning it after blasting Taylor with a big boot to the face for a near fall. The turning point came when Superstar II went for a deathjump but Cassidy, hands in pockets, stumbled into the ropes crotching the big man. Barreta tagged in and scored a near fall on Superstar II with a leg lariat. Finally, it was Taylor that won it when a somersault suicide dive to the outside led to Superstar II being counted out of the ring. Best Friends walked away with a huge win advancing to the next round.
16) The Elite (Kenny Omega & Young Bucks) defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan)
(Kenny Omega pinned Vinny Marseglia - More Bang For Your Buck)
* The final match of the opening round saw The Kingdom (Matt Taven, “Horror King” Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan) of Lucha MAX take on The Elite trio of “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, Matt & Nick Jackson, representing Kings Road United. This match had it all and was an appropriate main event for the day session. There were a slew of near falls mixed in with quick tags and double and triple-teaming attacks. It really could have gone either way but in the end it was the Bucks hitting More Bang For Your Buck on Marseglia. Omega, who made a blind tag during the move, alertly slid in and covered Marseglia to score the pin as the Bucks delivered a Superkick Party to Taven and O’Ryan.

* Rush led Killer Kross and Homicide, the rudos trio known as Los Ingobernables in Lucha MAX, into battle against the Kings Road United team of Jushin “Thunder” Liger, Wani & Wheeler Yuta. Los Ingobernables were among the heavily favored teams going into the tournament and it showed here as they put on a dominating performance. Liger fared well against Rush during one stretch but it was downhill from there. The finish saw Rush rough up Wani before coming off of the top rope deathjump style with a Flying Bodypress to score the pin.
13) Eddie Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert & Doug Gilbert defeated Dan Severn, Johnny Saint & Tracy Williams
(Doug Gilbert pinned Johnny Saint - Piledriver)
* The controversial Gilbert Family of “Hot Stuff” Eddie Gilbert, Tommy Gilbert & “Dangerous” Doug Gilbert from ECW took on World of Sport stars Dan “The Beast” Severn, Johnny Saint & “Hot Sauce” Tracy Williams. Severn led his team fully into battle as they dominated for a good stretch, with “The Beast” nearly putting “Hot Stuff” out with a Choke Sleeper. Saint in kind nearly tapped out Eddie with the Three In One but he was able to get a rope break. The finishing stretch saw Tommy Gilbert come up with a near fall on Saint with a back suplex. Eddie then blindsided Saint with a foreign object allowing Doug, who had tagged in, to nail him with a Piledriver for the pin.
14) Mil Mascaras, Konnan & Prince Puma defeated MJF, Ricky Starks & Austin Theory
(Mil Mascaras pinned MJF - Snake Eyes - Flying Bodypress)
* The legendary Mil Mascaras, a record seven-time LOW World Heavyweight champion, teamed with Konnan and Prince Puma as Lucha MAX representatives taking on the arrogant IWA trio of MJF, “Absolute” Ricky Starks & Austin Theory. MJF, or Maxwell Jacob Friedman, called out Mascaras during the ring introductions but failed to bait him. Instead, Mascaras chose to use his ring technique to frustrate MJF and leave him screaming bloody murder. The finish of a fairly quick match saw Mascaras hit his trademark Flying Bodypress on MJF to score a snake eyes pin. MJF was beside himself post-match going after the referee and complaining of a quick count. Starks and Theory had to restrain him but then all three were quickly disposed of by the victorious Mascaras, Konnan and Puma drawing cheers from the crowd.
15) Best Friends (Chuck Taylor, Trent Barreta & Orange Cassidy) defeated Masked Superstar II, Dan Spivey & Kurrgan by Count Out
* The popular Best Friends team of Chuck Taylor, Trent Barreta & Orange Cassidy, representing the IWA, had a tall order, literally, as they took on the large independent trio of Masked Superstar II, “Dangerous” Dan Spivey & Kurrgan. With Spivey the “shortest” at 6’7” it was going to take some heavy lifting for Best Friends to pull it out. In fact, it took TTE (Total Team Effort) for that to happen. The size and power of their opposition proved formidable, with Kurrgan nearly winning it after blasting Taylor with a big boot to the face for a near fall. The turning point came when Superstar II went for a deathjump but Cassidy, hands in pockets, stumbled into the ropes crotching the big man. Barreta tagged in and scored a near fall on Superstar II with a leg lariat. Finally, it was Taylor that won it when a somersault suicide dive to the outside led to Superstar II being counted out of the ring. Best Friends walked away with a huge win advancing to the next round.
16) The Elite (Kenny Omega & Young Bucks) defeated The Kingdom (Matt Taven, Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan)

* The final match of the opening round saw The Kingdom (Matt Taven, “Horror King” Vinny Marseglia & TK O’Ryan) of Lucha MAX take on The Elite trio of “The Cleaner” Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks, Matt & Nick Jackson, representing Kings Road United. This match had it all and was an appropriate main event for the day session. There were a slew of near falls mixed in with quick tags and double and triple-teaming attacks. It really could have gone either way but in the end it was the Bucks hitting More Bang For Your Buck on Marseglia. Omega, who made a blind tag during the move, alertly slid in and covered Marseglia to score the pin as the Bucks delivered a Superkick Party to Taven and O’Ryan.
