Again, I got what they called the COVID-19 vaccine shot on Friday morning. Over 40 hours after I was asked to look out for things such as redness at the injection site (my upper left elbow since I am right handed) and swelling under the armpit, I have had none of these issues whatsoever. I think I either got the dummy vaccine (I have done some dumb things in my 47 years so perhaps it would be appropriate if I got the dummy vaccine lol) or this vaccine does not have the worrisome problems I was asked to look for. I fill out an Ejournal every night on my phone and I go back in for another exam in September.
So far though really no side effects from this vaccine shot (unless extra emphasis on cleaning and organizing my workspace at home is a side effect- but I just think I am trying to get more ready for online work on Monday.)
Hopefully this trial vaccine I received leads to an answer for this pandemic!
I volunteered for this trial vaccine because I want to be part of the solution to a problem that has killed 100s of 1,000s of people.

I go back in on Wednesday for my monthly doctor's appointment for this COVID-19 Phase 3 vaccine trial I am involved in.
The clinic calls me once a week and they just ask me a few questions such as am I experiencing any particular symptoms and if I have been to the emergency room. I tell them no (because I really am not experiencing any symptoms and I really have not been to the emergency room) and then after each phone call they add another $27 to the Mastercard they gave me and they said they will another $90 to it after my monthly doctor's appointment on Wednesday and after each appointment there afterward.
Although I am taking the money (they paid me $100s to take a COVID-19 test- which turned out negative- and to take a blood test and I think I used some of my vaccine money to buy my Collective tickets for next month in Indianapolis,) I am really more concerned with trying to help end this pandemic.
As you may have heard, the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine trials have been halted due to one of the vaccine volunteers (just like me) getting a serious sickness which may be coincidental and not a side effect. But I am involved in one of the other 2 COVID-19 vaccine Phase 3 trials and so far I am not experiencing any problems at all.

Yea when I heard that testing was stopped I got worried but then saw it was in Europe. Do not worry about taking the money. It is a small amount compared to what they are getting. While things have been ok and hopefully continue that way it is still a bit of a risk. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

I only want to do the right thing. I am hoping the Phase 3 COVID-19 vaccine trial I am participating in will indeed lead to a long term solution.

Yesterday I took a paid day off from work (I have 127 sick days and my supervisors know I will be using 1 sick day/month for these monthly vaccine appointments) to get my 2nd COVID-19 vaccination shot. I am involved in the Moderna study which, like the majority of potential Phase III COVID-19 vaccines, requires 2 shots 1 month apart.
At my appointment they asked me if I thought if I had the real COVID-19 trial vaccine or if I thought I had the placebo (there is 50/50 chance but they still pay me the same.) I told them I do not know but I hope I have the actual vaccine because if so, since I have had no side effects in 1 month, then it will be beneficial for many other people and that is why I am doing this (yes, I am getting paid, but I really just want this damn pandemic to end.)
Before getting this 2nd vaccination shot, yesterday I had to take yet another COVID-19 test (I hate the burning swab up the nose although I understand the purpose of the test) but they at least then instantly put more money on the Mastercard they gave me.
36 hours after this 2nd vaccination shot, still no problems. I took my temperature (as required for my nightly Ejournal) tonight and it was only 96.5.

I am glad to see that the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine for which I am a Phase III volunteer is about to get officially approved by the FDA. The country recently has been losing 2,400 people/day to COVID-19 and we need another vaccine to join the FDA approved Pfizer vaccine.
On a personal note, I received a phone call from Moderna on Sunday and an Email from Moderna yesterday. Both the phone call from Moderna and the Email from Moderna said they are going to unblind the Phase III trials following FDA approval so the vaccine volunteers such as myself can find out then whether we were among the 50% who received the actual vaccine or if we were among the 50% who received the placebo. They said it would be our option if we want to know those results but who in the hell would not want to learn if they are vaccinated against a rampaging virus that has now killed over 300,000 Americans? Moderna said they will be offering the vaccine to the volunteers who received their placebo within 1 or 2 weeks of FDA approval which is not unusual for participants in vaccine trials as Pfizer is doing the same thing.
Once we get through this horrible Winter, I think 2021 is going to be a much better year than 2020.

My work had an emergency meeting this morning about the virus. A co-worker fell sick last Wednesday and was tested positive for Covid. He passed away last night in a hospital in Kansas City.
The meeting stressed that Covid was not a political issue like the individual believed and that PPE should be worn all the time when dealing with the public... which the individual didn't wear his mask because he didn't believe it was a real thing.
I dont understand how some people have politicized this or don't believe its a real thing. Meanwhile, I am stressed about the whole situation and worried its going to get brought home and infect the wife or kiddo.

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine that I have been involved with as a volunteer participant since August was officially approved by the FDA on Friday.
One cool advantage about the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine, in addition to being another vaccine option with more doses now available, is that unlike the Pfizer vaccine it does not need to be stored at such cold temperatures like minus 94 degrees so people who live in more remote areas can also be vaccinated.
I find out any day now (perhaps tomorrow) if I got the vaccine back in August or just the placebo. If I got the placebo, Moderna said I will be offered the vaccine in less than 2 weeks.
But I did not do this to get vaccinated early or for the money (which I am going to use to go on wrestling trips in 2021) as I did not even know I would get paid when I volunteered. I just wanted to do something to try to help life get back to normal.
