Trying to pass the time I was cleaning out a cupboard and once again came across my Pro Wrestling Illustrated Super Colour Special #4 featuring the Night of Dreams Wrestling Supercard. The discovery inspired me to start something new with my Legends card set. Welcome to the Night of Dreams federation!

As stated in the Super Color Special . . .

Ah, what a joyous occasion it would be if all wrestling promotors on the planet were to pool their resources as on, just for one evening. It would be a spectacle of skill to dwarf efforts like WrestleMania, Starrcade, Star Wars, and all other extravaganzas wrestling fans have been privileged to witness. It would be a dream card, the greatest lineup in wrestling history.

Card 01: Night of Dreams Wrestling Supercard – Comiskey Park, Chicago, Illinois

Round Robin Tournament: Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan defeated Harley Race via disqualification. This was classic encounter to open the night. Both men traded counters with no clear advantage for a long time before Bockwinkel was able to catch Race with a deathjump smash to the top of the head for a near fall. Bockwinkel then attempted to win with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK and BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER but Race was able to escape both times before mounting his comeback. Race was a machine and looked to have the victory after a VERTICAL SUPLEX but a timely distraction of Morgan Dollar by Bobby Heenan kept the match going. Bockwinkel continued to struggle even tripping over Dr. Mike Lano on the floor! Inside the ring, Race had the match won after a PILEDRIVER but Heenan once again came to the rescue and was sent flying over the top of the turnbuckles for his trouble. With Heenan down and out, Race continued to press his attack but Bockwinkel found an opening and scored with a back suplex leaving both men dazed on the mat. From that point, the action once again went back and forth. The action went to the floor where Race grabbed a chair and smashed it across the back of his opponent. Dollar, who had given both men strict instructions at the outset of the match, quickly called the bell bringing a hot opener to a controversial conclusion.

Lou Thesz over Bobo Brazil. Handshake to start off. The lock up is a struggle and they trade counters. Thesz with a punch to the ribs and they again trade counters. Brazil is sent into the ropes and downs Thesz with a tackle but misses with a lariat. Thesz downs Brazil with an airplane spin and then locks in a stepover toehold facelock. The struggle is intense but Brazil escapes and as he regains his feet Thesz catches him with a THESZ PRESS and gets the three count. The competitors shake hands after the match before Brazil leaves the ring.

Abdullah The Butcher downed Bruiser Brody by disqualification. Brody gets the best of the early clinch and brawling. One handed body slam nearly kills Butcher but he kicks out of the following cover. To the floor, Brody takes away a chair from Butcher and cracks him with it. The official calls for the disqualification and the two keep on brawling. The fight carry’s on into the crowd and into centre field where security finally breaks things up.

Women’s Title Match –Sherri Martel dominated Trish Stratus. Morgan Dollar has strict instructions for both competitors. Martell takes control with a vicious brawling assault including multiple kicks to the ribs and forearms. Knee lifts rock Stratus who looks completely overwhelmed. Martel gets a two count after a scoop slam. Martel then goes to the top and connects with a TOP ROPE SPLASH for the win to claim the title in a one sided squash.

British Bulldog & Hacksaw Jim Duggan beat Foreign Legion. The fans were all over Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff from the outset. First Iron Sheik took a beating while the fans chanted and then Nikolai Volkoff was cut off from his corner. Sheik was able to save Volkoff after a FLYING SPEAR and later from a RUNNING POWER SLAM. Volkoff continued to take beating including a crowd pleasing superplex and Old Glory knee drop that sets up a second FLYING SPEAR giving the Allies a decisive victory.

Round Robin Tournament – Buddy Rogers pinned Harley Race. The fans were stoked for this encounter as Morgan Dollar called for the bell. Race’s power gives him an early advantage and he lands head butts and falling knee drops. Rogers avoids a knee and takes over with dropkicks and then he lands his own jumping knee smash. The blow knocks the wind out of Race and Rogers capitalizes with a sudden cover. Dollar makes the three count but it appears to some that Race had his shoulder up at the last second. The pin stands despite the complaints of Race and both tournament encounters end in controversy.
Sandman pinned “Wild” Bull Curry in a Texas Death Match to win the Hardcore Title. This was a wild and bloody as you would expect between these two. The match took place more outside the ring then inside and when the action was in the ring, it featured plenty of weapons. Chair smashes were abound including a DDT on a chair by Sandman. Both men were a bloody and battered mess when a SINGAPORE CANE from Sandman ends it.

Johnny Saint downed Fit Finlay. The counters early on were effortless as the action when back and forth. Finlay used a hard scoop slam to get control and then used a Finlay Special and later a Rolling Hills to punish his opponent. Saint was able to counter with a ROSS ABBOTT out of nowhere and the momentum turns. Saint with a double arm stretch and cradle for a near fall. THREE IN ONE is locked in and Finlay cannot counter or reach the ropes. Saint is your winner.

Stan Hansen & Big Van Vader bested Ted DiBiase & “Dr. Death” Steve Williams. This was a hard-hitting stiff contest from start to finish. The action was back and forth with no clear advantage until Vader caught Williams with a VADER BOMB for a near fall. From that point, both sides were able to make tags but Vader & Hansen pressed the attack. Vader had DiBiase in trouble but DiBiase was able to slam Vader to the mat from the top of the corner in a huge spot. Williams was back into the match but soon was overwhelmed. Vader hit multiple running body avalanches. Hansen worked the lower back including a Brazos Valley backbreaker the nearly broke Dr. Death before a LARIAT connects and gets the pin while Vader cuts of DiBiase from making the save.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Express beat Road Warriors w/Paul Ellering to win the Night of Dreams World Tag Team Championship. The text book battle of power vs. skill turned in favour of the smaller and quicker team early on when the Express managed to cut off Animal from the corner. Several slingshot stomps lead to a DOUBLE DROPKICK by the Express by Ellering was able to cause a distraction to Morgan Dollar and match kept going. The Warriors were not able to get a tag and Express kept double teaming until Ricky Morton downed Animal with a CROSS BODY BLOCK for the pin while Robert Gibson blocked the pin save from Hawk.

Round Robin Tournament – Buddy Rogers over Nick Bockwinkel w/Bobby Heenan to become the undisputed Night of Dreams World Champion. This was another wild encounter. Both competitors started slow not wanting to be the first to make a critical error. Both men focus on the lower body and it is Bockwinkel who breaks out first and strings together a series of moves leading to a BOCKWINKEL SLEEPER. Rogers escapes and turns the momentum when he rams Bockwinkel’s leg off the ring post. Rogers controls the action for a long stretch. Bobby Heenan is able to cause a distraction after Nature Boy connects with a jumping knee smash for a possible pin. Later, Heenan attempts to toss a foreign object to Bockwinkel but Rogers is able to intercept and clocks Bockwinkel busting him open. Bockwinkel never really recovered and Rogers wins the tournament and the title with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINE.

Thanks for the feed back TTX and Swarm . Going forward, the action will take place on the rotational basis from the three promotional organizations featured on Night of Dreams: American Wrestling Legends Associates (AWLA), National Wrestling Legends Alliance (NWLA) and North Eastern Wrestling Legends (NEWL). Buddy Rogers, Rock ‘n’Roll Express, Sheri Martel and Sandman will be travelling champions. Each organization will have its own singles and tag team champions as well.
Each organization has 30 competitors and once all the competitors have appeared in at least two matches, substitutions/trades can take place.

May I inquire as to the divisions in each 30 man roster? Tag teams, women, ECT...

Thanks for the question awffltony77 . The initial roster is comprised of five tag teams (10 competitors) and 20 singles competitors. The division between tag team singles is fluid so if Red Bastien wants to go it alone for a stretch then he can do so. The women will be booked separately and will not be limited to one of the federation but will appear in all three companies.
