NWA WORLD Championship Wrestling with Tony Schiavone and David Crockett Tony and David did the show intro and Johnny Mantell came out. Mantell said he heard Thunderbolt Patterson say he didn't want to get into any personal issues, but he did exactly that last week. Mantell continued "BOY, get out here and get the beating you deserve". Patterson came out and asked him to repeat that first part again. Mantell opened his mouth and Patterson immediately punched him in the face before tossing him into the ring to start the match. Thunderbolt Patterson defeated Johnny Mantell with a waistlock atomic drop and pin. Fierce opening bout as both men tore into each other. Patterson weathered the storm and came back to score the decisive pin in a great opener. David gleefully called out the FORMER light heavyweight champion Steve Regal and his manager Melina. Melina said what happened last week was a miscarriage of justice because they never agreed to wrestle Disco. Melina demanded Bill Watts come out and reverse the decision. Watts did come out, but said the Regal got beat and that means he's no longer champion. Watts made Disco come out. Watts said DI won the match, but he was not technically the wrestlers signed to compete. So the dilemma is what to do and the answer seems obvious: Watts is making a rematch for the supercard at the Omni. Furthermore, knowing the history of both men, he is making it a LUMBERJACK MATCH so there will be a clear cut winner. Neither man seemed pleased with this, but Disco vowed to win again and prove that the spotlight belongs on him and not "Mister No Electricity, the walking sleeping pill". Bob Roop defeated Nacho Barrerra.Nacho tried a waistlock at the bell, but Roop easily reversed. Roop breezed to a win inside of two minutes and scored the pin. Following the match Roop joined Tony and David on commentary, saying he wants to watch this "All American" Bob Backlund in action. Bob Backlund defeated Bill White with an atomic drop and pin.White was a stout challenge as usual. Roop was not impressed on commentary, saying Backlund "left a lot to be desired and doesn't live up to the hype". Tony welcomed out Melina and Tully Blanchard. Melina was thrilled as Tully told Tony "I told you so. I beat Magnum and shut his mouth and the world champion had better pay attention". David said Tully had better not count Magnum out just yet because it takes more than one loss to keep him down. Tully laughed and said "Magnum may as well say 'I quit' and move up north where the competition is easier". Tully and Melina left and Fabulous Moolah entered the scene. David asked Moolah about the women's title tournament and Moolah said it's just a formality because "you're looking at the one and only queen of the ring". Moolah headed to the ring for her match. Fabulous Moolah won by disqualification over Susan Green.Interesting decision here, as Moolah absolutely dominated the match until Green made a big comeback. She sent Moolah out of the ring after a pair of standing dropkicks and followed. Green slammed Moolah on the floor. The referee tried to intervene and get the action back in the ring, but Green pushed him out of the way. The referee called for the disqualification as Moolah made her escape. Next up, the weight lifting challenge. A bench and loaded bar were set up in front of the ring and Paul Ellering led out the Road Warriors. Paul asked Tony where the Powers Of Pain were since they made the challenge. Adrian Street showed up and said his team would be here soon enough but in the meantime they needed to discuss what is so "Precious" about Paul, because to the eyes of the Exotic one he looks quite repugnant. Paul got in Street' face and Street slapped him. The Warriors closed in on Street and the Powers Of Pain ambushed them from behind. Barbarian hit Animal over the back with a 45 pound plate as Warlord and Hawk brawled. Animal was down and hurt, so Barbarian went to join Warlord as Street and Ellering traded punches. Hawk fought back hard but was overwhelmed as security ran in to break it up. The aftermath saw Hawk and Ellering help Animal to his feet and half carry him to the back, as he clearly could not make it on his own power. Abdullah The Butcher and Mr Hughes beat Jimmy Valiant and Manny Fernandez. Not really what I was expecting, but it happened. Manny and Jimmy had Abby rocked, but he bailed out and took over on Jimmy out of the ring. Jimmy made a comeback and tagged to Manny, but Abby got a tag out to Hughes. Eventually after some back and forth and a little interference, Manny got pinned by a Hughes Spike Slam. Following the decision Abdullah took out the fork and went to town on the head of Manny while Hughes fought with Jimmy. Valiant was able to overcome and make the save with a chair, but the damage was done and Manny was busted wide open and injured.

NWA WORLDWIDE with Gordon Solie and Bob Caudle
Bob: "Welcome everybody to another exciting edition of NWA Worldwide. We're starting tonigh in Philadelphia, where Nova takes on Justin Credible." Justin Credible defeated Nova via "That's Incredible".Nova had Credible rocked early, and Justin rolled out of the ring. There he stumbled over the once again inconvenient presence of ringside photographer Dr Mike Lano and Nova capitalized to toss him back in and get a near fall. Credible came back and hit his finisher for the win. Gordon: "The promoter is really going to have to do something to secure his ringside area before there's a serious accident in Philly. But now we head over to Texas where that troll Tony Clifton has once again dragged out Lightning Rod Fenton to try to gain some revenge against the surging Don Curtis." Bob: "You can't take anything away from Fenton, a skilled but underhanded competitor, but his association with the slimy Clifton isn't going to win him any popularity contests." Lighting Rod Fenton defeated Don Curtis after a series of dopkicks.Clifton began the match by grabbing the house mic and insisting the match be held under "classic rules". Curtis agreed, giving Fenton the automatic advantage, as running the ropes and climbing the corner were off limits. Curtis had things going his way until a series of illegal and underhanded moves by Fenton, including pulling a small wrench from his trunks to hit Curtis, led to the pin. Gordon: "Well, Clifton suckered Curtis into that one, as Fenton used anything buy 'classic rules' to get the victory. That situation is far from over I'm sure. And now something that is wrapping up, and that's the first round of the NWA women's title tournament. We head up north to Minnesota where Candi Devine wrestles Ida Mae Martinez for the final spot in round two."Candi Devine defeated Ida Mae Martinez in a women's title tournament match. The first round closed out in style as Candi Devine won a good match with a cross body block to advance to the next round. Bob: "With the first round now complete, let's take a look at the matchups for round number two." Sherri Martel vs Rockin Robin Jazz vs. Joyce Grable Mildred Burke vs. Nora Greenwald Fabulous Moolah vs. Candi Devine Gordon: "Truly an elite class of female grapplers fighting it out to be the next world's women champion. And now the action remains in Minnesota, where the Long Riders have made their way to do battle with Billy Red Lyons and Red Bastein." the Flying Redheads won by disqualification over The Long Riders. The wild Irwin brothers took the match to the floor, where Bill slammed Red's head into the ringside table. Lyons came over to help, but was blindsided by Scott. Scott and Bill then double body slammed Red onto the table to draw the DQ. Gordon: "We end this week in California, where the legendary Destroyer has returned stateside to a talent packed territory to take on Ox Baker. I don't believe there's an area in the entire NWA with as much top level, main event talent as California right now." The Destroyer defeated Ox Baker via figure four.Fun, evenly paced contrast in styles. Destroyer survived Ox's powerful offense to wear him down and secure the figure four for the win. Bob: "It would not surprise me if the NWA champion's next top challenger doesn't come out of this part of the country, and it could very well be The Destroyer." Gordon: "Indeed. That;s all the time we have for this week, check us out next time for more NWA Worldwide."

NWA World Championship Wrestling with your hosts Tony Schiavone and David Crockett Tony and David did the show intro and were interrupted by an elated Jim Cornette and The Midnight Express. Cornette bragged that there's no way Manny Fernandez will make it to the Omni. Jimmy Valiant came out and said not only will Manny be there, but the Midnight Express will go sailing off that scaffold never to be seen again. But first Jimmy told Cornette to get Abdullah out there because they've got unfinished business. Abdullah The Butcher defeated Jimmy ValiantAbdullah attacked at the bell, but Jimmy fought back. Valiant was looking to get the win when he was distracted by Cornette and the Express at ringside. Abdullah took advantage and used his meat cleaver elbow drop for the pin. Pampero Firpo rushed in with a steel chair to defend Jimmy and prevent a post match attack. US champ Masked Superstar beat Kenny Jay in a non-title matchSuperstar wasted no time taking Jay down and winning with the Cobra Hold. Post match Tony and David spoke with Superstar and manager JJ Dillon. Superstar said Patriot has bitten off more than he can chew and at the Omni he will establish himself as the greatest United States champion of all time. JJ added that Patriot wearing the red, white, and blue doesn't mean he deserves the right to call himself US champion, or even be a real contender. JJ promised that Masked Superstar will back up his words in Atlanta because he is the greatest masked man in wrestling today. Powers Of Pain (w/Exotic Adrian) defeated Ric McCord and George SouthMcCord got some offense in on Warlord early, but it was all downhill from there. Barbarian hit the elevated clothesline for the easy win. Paul Ellering came to ringside to speak after the match. He called Adrian Street over to the commentary position and said the Powers Of Pain got first blood, but the Legion Of Doom always has the last word. He challenged Street to bring the Powers Of Pain to the supercard at the Omni and face the Road Warriors and himself in six man tag team action. Street agreed with the caveat that "when they win" they get the next shot at the tag team championship. Sherri Martel defeated Rockin Robin with a top rope splash to advance in round two of the NWA women's title tournamentSolid action here with Sherri picking up the pinfall victory to head to the semi-finals. Sherri went over and was interviewed after the match. Sherri told Tony she heard Moolah running her mouth after her first round win, but Moolah is sadly mistaken because there's only one queen of wrestling, and it's the Queen Sherri Martel, the next NWA women's world champion. Thunderbolt Patterson won by disqualification over Hangeman Strangler.Decent brawling match, with Thunderbolt clearly establishing himself as the superior combatant. The bout spilled to the floor where Texas Hangman Psycho made his return and attacked Patterson. Following the decision the Hangmen doubled teamed Patterson in the ring and used the Hangmen Backbreaker double team maneuver to leave Thunderbolt laying hurt in center ring. As Tony and David discussed what had just taken place Rock Riddle made his way to the commentary area with newcomer Lenny Lane. Rock said you could forget the Hangmen, forget the Powers Of Pain, and even forget the Road Warriors because the West Hollywood Blondes have arrived. The West Hollywood Blondes beat Ron Hutchison and Nacho Barrera when Lane pinned Nacho.A nice introduction to the Blondes, as Riddle overcame some trouble at the hands of Hutchison and made the tag to Lane who took over and got the win on Nacho with his "Memory Lane" finisher. NWA world champion Jack Brisco came to ringside to provide guest commentary for the number one contender match between Harley Race and Vader. Big Van Vader pinned Harley Race to earn a shot at the world title.Race was firmly in control from the opening bell, eventually taking Vader down with a back suplex for a two count. Vader recovered and established himself after rocking Race with a clothesline. Finally, after about seven minutes of action Race fell to a running body avalanche and bone crunching splash for the pin. Vader walked over to Brisco at ringside after the decision and got in his face. He said the world title is coming back where it belongs at the Omni and Brisco will be nothing more than an asterisk in the history of the legend of Big Van Vader. Jack said he's beaten Vader once and he knows he can do it again. Jack waved his hand, said "see you in Atlanta", then turned and walked away as the show went off the air.

Mantell probably hates himself right now.
I see Regal winning back the belt.
Nacho must not have been feeling well.
Backlund is my current champ; I need to bring White in, especially after the news of his passing.
Green will probably want so more of Moolah.
I be Emperor Norton would have not wasted time on that scuffle and would have been getting a pump in on that bench.
Now that was a an odd, yet satisfying main event.

NWA Worldwide with hosts Bob Caudle and Gordon Solie Bob: "Welcome once again to NWA Worldwide. We've got a Huuuuge main event tonight as Johnny Valetine will try to unseat Pacific heavyweight champion Jim Londos." Gordon: "Indeed, and Katy bar the door for that one. But first we go to action from Missouri, where Ivan Koloff is on hand to face Tiger Conway." Ivan Koloff (w/Alexis Smirnoff) defeated Tiger Conway Sr.Koloff tried to use his weight advantage early, but Conway used his speed to get out of the way and hit a flurry for a near fall. After several minutes of action Koloff clearly established himself and got the pin after a Russian Sickle. Gordon: "Ivan Koloff looking to get back into the spotlight and that was a good way to make a statement with a decisive win over the always ready Tiger Conway." Bob: "Now let's take a look at a bout from Charlotte, North Carolina where Jerry Brisco takes on Johnny Mantell." Jerry Brisco defeated Johnny Mantell via figure four leglock.Nice back and forth action. After several minutes The Texas Hangmen showed up at ringside, but were countered by Thunderbolt Patterson, who was holding a steel folding chair. Brisco finally managed to slap on the figure four and Conway kept the Hangmen from interferring. Mantell had no choice but to give up and Brisco got the big win. Bob: "I think Mantell and the Hangmen are going to rue the day they made an enemy out of the outspoken Thunderbolt Patterson. Patterson, by his own description, just wanted to earn money and win titles, but the evil trio pushed matters too far. We can see the result." Gordon: "Jerry Brisco left unhindered is one of the finest junior heavyweight competitors of all time. Add to that Thunderbolt watching his back and you have a very formidable duo." Bill Apter hosted the "Hot Seat" interview with "The Laughing Man" Hugh Morrus. Apter said Hugh arrived on the scene seemingly out of nowhere and now looks to take the Florida title and perhaps get into world title contention. Morrus laughed uncontrollably and said titles are nice, but broken bones are nicer. And even better if it's someone else's bones getting broken. More laughter. Apter was unnerved but tried to continue. He asked Hugh about his plans going forward, but Hugh Morrus just laughed some more, grabbed Apter by the lapels, laughed in his face, then stood up and flipped the table in front of them. Apter declared the interview over and made a quick exit. Jazz defeated Joyce Grable to advance to the semi-finals of the women's title tournament.Jazz attacked at the bell and just overwhelmed her top tier opponent. Jazz hit a series of big moves and got the pin inside of three minutes. Gordon: "Sherri and Moolah have both staked claim as the dominant female in the NWA women's ranks. but Jazz just showed that she is nobody to be taken lightly." Bob: "It will be extremely interesting to see what happens in the semi-finals when Sherri and Jazz collide. And now we go to Alabama, where the Rock N Roll Express wind down their US "Super Summer Sizzler Tour" against the team of Eddie and Doug Gilbert." Rock N Roll Express defeated The Gilberts via disqualification.Very solid tag team match. In the end Doug got a near fall on Robert after a piledriver, then tagged out to Eddie. Eddie pulled some "knuckle dusters" out of his tights and hit a KO punch on Robert. The referee started to count the three, but stopped and noticed the foreign object on Eddie's hand. He called for the bell and the Gilberts began to celebrate, thinking they had won. Eddie raised his arms in victory, but the referee pulled them down and explained his decision. The Gilberts tried to protest, but Ricky and Robert gave them each a double dropkick to clear the ring. In an interview out of Texas, Don Curtis talked about his troubles with Tony Clifton's lackeys and the underhanded tactics of Lightning Rod Fenton. Curtis said he won't be fooled twice and now he knows Fenton won't play fair. He said that' okay, because he can get rough too. Curtis declared that he would be ready for the rematch and he has some friends who can back him up as well, so Clifton and his boys had better be prepared.
Jim Londos pinned Johnny Valentine to defend the Pacific heavyweight championship. Valentine controlled the outset and established his methodical pace. Londos tried to come back a few times but Johnny put him back down. Eventually Londos got his opening and hit a crotch lift and slam for a near fall. One airplane spin later and Londos got the win to defend his title.

NWA World Championship Wrestling with Tony Schiavone and David Crockett the prelude to the BIG EVENT at the Omni! Tony and David did the show and talked about the big main event coming up at the Omni in Atlanta where Big Van Vader will get his rematch with world champion Jack Brisco. Then Tony introduced the opening bout featuring Magnum TA BILL WHITE pinned Magnum TA, thanks to a timely distraction by Tully Blanchard.Bill White once again, folks. Magnum controlled the first few minutes, but the tenacious journeyman would not stay down and got back into the action. The bout went back and forth with White grinding Magnum down until he tossed him out of the ring. Tully Blanchard showed up and Magnum was distracted as he got back into the ring. When he turned around White grabbed him and used a running power slam for the shocking win. Tully went over to Tony and David and laughed about how he was right that Magnum is nothing but a loser. Magnum rushed over and laid into Tully. The two brawled acorss the studio and straight out the back door as David Crockett went wild on commentary. Tony Schiavone tried to pull the show back together and called out Manny Fernandez and Jimmy Valiant. Tony recapped the duos recent woes at the hands of Jim Cornette's hired gun, Abdullah The Buthcer. Jimmy said they are down but not out and wild horses couldn't keep them away from the Omni and that scaffold. Manny concluded by saying the Midnight Express are going skydiving without a parachute real soon and if Abby thinks he can drag his fat butt up the scaffold he can come try to get some, too. Bob Backlund joined Tony and David for commentary on the following match. Bob Roop defeated Tommy Angel via pinfall. This one was over quick. Tommy tried a hammerlock but Roop reversed. Angel went for a drop toehold but Roop blocked and made him pay. He punished Angel with a reverse hammerlock and then hoisted him up in a shoulder breaker for the win. After the match Backlund talked with Tony and David about Roop's technical acumen, but said he wasn't thrilled with the man's sense of sportsmanship. Roop walked over to the commentary area and said he didn't care what Backlund did or didn't care for and there's one more spot open for the Omni if Backlund wants to come try a true mat master. Backlund said he'd be glad to and he's sure matchmaker Bill Watts would love to make the match. Disco Inferno defeated Ron Hutchison with Last Dance. Hutchison made it a match, but Disco would not be denied in his first in-ring appearance as light heavyweight champion.Following the match Disco was interviewed. He said he tried to elevate the profile of Steve Regal and he allowed Melina in to manage them, but they didn't understand the dynamic of the situation. Disco said HE is the true star and he will make them and the rest of the world see it when he beats Regal once again in a lumberjack match and goes on to become the greatest light heavyweight champion of all time.Disco left and JJ Dillon came to the commentary area. Dillon cut to the chase and said The Patriot is a disgrace to the mask. He continued by declaring that he manages the greatest masked men in wrestling today in US champion Masked Superstar and the one and only Spoiler and in tonight's main event the Spoiler will defeat the Patriot and send him in to the Omni a broken man so Masked Superstar can finish the job.Mildred Burke defeated Nora Greenwald to advance to the semi-finals of the women's title tournament. This was a great, very even match. Nora almost pulled the upset, but Mildred wore her down with backbreakers and got the submission with a full nelson. The Midnight Express beat Sam Houston and Scott Casey.Dennis and Bobby wasted no time, attacking at the bell and dispatching Scott from the ring. They then went to work on Houston and quickly used the Rocket Launcher for the dominant win. After the match Cornette warned that the Omini in Atlanta is going to be his greatest triumph when the Midnight Express finally get rid of Valiant and Fernandez and then Vader goes on to win back the world title he never really lost. He crowed that Abdullah and Mr Huges will both be watching his back the entire time too just in case any of his enemies get any wise ideas. The Patriot pinned The Spoiler after the Patriot MissileFantastic main event, but the Patriot would not be denied. He used the Uncle Slam, but JJ Dillon distracted the referee. Patriot knocked him off the apron and hit the Missile for the win. The show closed with Patriot talking to Tony and David. He said no matter what the enemies in our midst want to do to degrade us and ruin our spirit, the USA will not be defeated and neither will the Patriot. Patriot said the US title is the beacon of hope in the world and he will wear it proudly when he beats the Masked Superstar in Atlanta. The fans roared as Patriot led a "USA" chant to end the show.

Go Patriot....also nice to see the Midnights dominate. Midnight Express had a literal two move win. Dennis choice F on Sam, then Rocket Launcher and Dennis cut off Casey on the pin save attempt. Full disclosure on my Patriot push: I made his second finisher straight "PATRIOT MISSILE (+1)" and got rid of the tag move. People talk "what if?" about Magnum all the time (and come on, he straight up lost clean to Bill White, human push wrecking machine!) but to me Patriot is low key the Magnum of the Attitude era. Had he gone to WWF healthy he'd have been in the mix right on through. At least a solid run as Intercontinental champion. One of my favorites of that time period for sure.
