Alright, NWA Worldwide got pre-empted by Atlanta Braves baseball or something again because I finally got my new cards this week and wanted to roll this show. So, without further ado, It's Saturday Night with Tony and David Tony and David did the show open and were joined by Rock Riddle and Lenny Lane, who will challenge the Road Warriors for the NWA tag team championship later in the show. Riddle said nobody expected them to go this far, but here they are. And nobody will be ready when they win the tag team titles tonight. Lenny said he can't respect men who wear so much makeup and it will be his pleasure to take the titles off their hands. Riddle got mad at him again, telling Lane not to make them mad before the match, and dragged his partner away again. Ranger Ross won by disqualification over Tully Blanchard (w/Melina).Good action in the opener. Tully threw Ross out of the ring and followed up. Ross fired back on him and Melina got in the way. She tossed her purse aside as she yelled at Ross, giving Tully a chance to pull a weapon out of her purse. He hit Ross and with it and tossed him back in the ring for the pin. However, MAGNUM TA jumped in the ring and told the referee to check Tully, who still had the weapon in his hand. Tully protested but the referee grabbed his hand and the foreign object fell out. Tully rushed at TA to attack, but Magnum caught him with a dopkick that sent him flying between the ropes and out of the ring. The Moondogs (w/John Mantell) defeated Thunderbolt Patterson and Jerry Brisco. This was a great tag team fight. Patterson's brawling counteracted the Moondogs' tactics well, and Brisco kept them off balance with his speed advantage. At one point Brisco locked in a figure four on Rex, but Mantell reached inside the ring and raked Jerry's eyes to make the save. In the end Patterson was going for the win with a knee drop off the middle rope (deathjump) but Rex moved and used a trio of SHOULDER BREAKERS to get the pin as Spot fought with Jerry in the corner to prevent him from breaking the pin. Tony and David were joined by Jimmy Valiant. Jimmy said Manny and he made it through every team they faced until last week when they slipped against a pair of goof in Riddle and Lane, so they have to sit and watch this time but next time it will be different. David asked where Manny is tonight, as he was scheduled to appear. Jimmy said he doesn't know and Manny is off doing his own thing, noting he's been "a little cranky all week". But right now, Jimmy continued, it's time to watch out for Bob Backlund because he's got to face The Grappler with "that nasty no good JJ Dillon". Bob Backlund won by disqualification over The Grappler (w/JJ Dillon).Backlund dominated most of the match until Grappler bailed out of the ring to catch his breath. Bob got too close to the ropes and Grappler pulled him out of the ring. Backlund was coming out on top of the brawl when Dillon jumped him from behind. Jimmy Valiant quickly came to his aid and Grappler and JJ Dillon retreated. Tony and David welcomed out the NWA tag team champions The Road Warriors and manager Paul Ellering. Paul said they outlasted the Midnight Express, they ran off the Powers Of Pain, and now they face the challenge of....Rock Riddle and Lenny Lane. Paul laughed and said Lane talked tough earlier in the evening, but in the end the Road Warriors will have the last laugh. Hawk had a few choice words and innuendos for the duo and Animal just pouned the wall behind them and said he's ready for a fight. "Wildfire" Tommy Rich defeated Thunderfoot in a matter of seconds.Thunderfoot rushed Rich at the bell, but Tommy caught him with an atomic drop, a pair of dropkicks, and finished with the THESZ PRESS for a quick victory. Tommy talked to Tony and David after the match. He said he heard the new NWA champion Nick Bockwinkel doesn't like coming down south, but this is his place and those are his people, so if the champ wants to get burned he can come play with Wildfire. The Road Warriors (w/Paul Ellering) defeated The West Hollywood Blondes to defend the NWA tag team championship. That was the expected result, but it was actually a closer match than anyone would imagine. Riddle really worked over the knee of Animal and had a figure four locked in for some time. Riddle and Lane tagged in and out and kept the advantage for several minutes. Animal fought back and tagged out to Hawk, who came in strong and put Lane away with a top rope clothesline (Doomsday Device, but that didn't make sense since Animal limped and dragged himself over to the corner for the tag).

NWA WORLDWIDE with Bob Caudle and Gordon Solie The action kicked off in Texas, as Marc Lowrence interviewed newcomer BRICKHOUSE BROWN. Marc welcomed Brown to the area and Brickhouse made it clear he has his sight set on the upcoming tournament for the Texas television championship. Lowrance invited Brown to join the commentary team for the upcoming match. Big Bully Busick (w/Tony Clifton) defeated Sam Houston in quick order. As Clifton provided distraction Busick attacked during ring introductions. It was all over in a matter of about a minute and a half as Busick used a slingshot atomic drop and got the pin. After the bell Clifton egged Busick on as he locked in the STUMP PULLER on Houston and would not break the hold. Finally Brickhouse had seen enough and jumped in the ring. Bully lunged at him but Brown dodged, peppered him with boxing jabs, and sent the Bully reeling with a series of dropkicks. Referees and security intervened and got between the men, leading Busick away as Clifton warned Brown that payback was coming. Bob Caudle: "Big action kicking off the show tonight as Brickhouse Brown wasted no time making his presence known down in Texas." Gordon: "Indeed. And that obnoxious Clifton may eat his words sooner rather than later, because Brickhouse Brown is not a man who will be bullied or intimidated." Bob: "And now we focus on Minnesota where Baron Von Raschke and Pampero Firpo do battle with Buddy Rose and Doug Somers." Baron and Pampero Firpo won by disqualification over Buddy Rose and Doug Somers.Baron wasted no time locking in the CLAW on Somers, but Rose made the save. Firpo came in and a brawl ensued. The action spilled out of the ring as Firpo brawled with Rose on one side and Baron went after Somers on the other. Somers gave Baron a cheap shot, then grabbed a chair and hit Baron over the head to draw the disqualification. Firpo ran over to defend his partner and was getting the better of Rose and Somers by himself when COLONEL DEBEERS ran out and attacked Firpo from behind. DeBeers put the boots to Baron as Rose and Somers threw Firpo into the ring and used a spike piledriver to incapacitate their rival to a chorus of boos. Gordon: "The situation between those teams has gotten out of hand now, and DeBeers making himself known has thrown gasoline on the fire." Bob: "It sure is a hot winter in Minnesota. And speaking of heat, a feud that seems to keep heating up every time it seems like the end is near in Philadelphia as Sandman fights Shane Douglas in a no holds barred, falls count anywhere match." Shane Douglas pinned Sandman after a pair of piledrivers in a falls count anywhere match. Action from bell to bell and all over the ringside area. Sandman would not stay down until a frustrated Douglas hit a piledriver in the ring, then got a steel chair and gave Sandman one more for good measure onto the chair for the pin.NWA world heavyweight champion NICK BOCKWINKEL joined Bill Apter in the Hot Seat interview segment. Apter brought up Tommy Rich and his words or warning for the champion on the latest edition of NWA Championship Wrestling. Nick said Rich cannot talk his way into a world title match, he has to earn it. Rich is a talented wrestler, Nick conceded, but he is not world championship material. Apter asked what makes a man "championship material". Nick answered that a champion has to have class for one thing, something a southern bumpkin like Rich does not have and will never have. After some parting words Apter closed the segment and thanked the champion for his time.Bob: "Strong words by the new world champion. And now we head down to Florida where Jim Cornette has continued to get under the skin of the Fantastics, interfering repeatedly in their matches with the Midnight Express. Tommy and Bobby have countered by brining in Florida ladies champion MALIA HOSAKA to watch their backs. And that brings us to this interesting situation where we have mixed tag team action coming up."The Fantastics and Malia Hosaka won by disqualification over Jim Cornette and The Midnight Express. Exciting action between the tag teams until Dennis knocked Fulton down hard with the FACE FIRST LEG SWEEP. Fulton barely managed to kick out and Cornette saw his chance to get some cheap shots, demanding to be tagged in. Cornette laid into Fulton with punches to the head and face, but Bobby made the tag out to Malia, who came in and beat on Cornette until the Express ran in to break the pin and grab Malia. That touched off a brawl with all memebers of the match in the ring, ending when Eaton grabbed the tennis racquet from ringside and introduced it into the match, drawing the disqualification. Tommy countered by grabbing a chair from ringside and the Express and Cornette bailed out. Gordon: "What a wild week of action around the nation. Chairs and team brawls and tennis racquets all around. Fortunately we close the show today with one of the most respected pro grapplers in the world, as a man who is certainly a top contender for the world title Jim Londos defends his Pacific heavyweight championship against German threat Fritz Von Goering."Jim Londos defeated Fritz Von Goering to defend the Pacific Heavyweight title.Fritz used his size and strength to control the early minutes of the match. Londos finally finessed his way back into the match with his speed and technical wrestling knowledge, then poured on the offense en route to a convincing title defense, scoring the pin after a crotch lift and slam. Bob: "A refreshing end to a chaotic show, as Jim Londos wins the day with his superior wrestling talent. Join us again next week when we feature ladies tag team action with Judy Martin and Leilani Kai and a big main event as United States champion Masked Superstar will defend his title." Gordon: "So long everybody!"

NWA Championship Wrestling AKA Mid Atlantic featuring your hosts, Tony Schiavone and David Crockett The show began with the participants for the opening bout already in the ring The Moondogs (w/John Mantell) defeated Ranger Ross and George South.Ross started quick against Spot, and continued to pour on the offense once Rex tagged in. However, his luck ran out and the Moondogs double teamed him until Ross made the tag out on defense to South. That did not work out for the team, as South quickly went down to the MOONDOG DROP. Tony introduced Manny Fernandez and asked him about his absense last week, noting that his tag team partner Jimmy Valiant had said Manny was upset after their loss to the West Hollywood Blondes two weeks ago. Manny said of course he was upset because they got rid of Cornette and the Midnight Express, they beat everyone thrown their way, and they should have had a tag team title match by now. Instead they've been waging war with the Grappler and JJ Dillon and they were worn down enough they lost to a team that never should have beaten them. So he's about to get in the ring with Grappler #2 and he vowed to show that Manny Fernandez means business. Grappler #2 (w/JJ Dillon) won by disqualification over Manny Fernandez, but was injured in the process. Thanks to the dice for this one. Manny dominated the match until Grappler rolled out of the ring to catch a breather. Manny was having none of that and followed. He grabbes a steel chair and went to work on Grappler 2, smashing it over his head until the crimson could be seen through the mask. Dillon tried to jump in, but Manny chased him away with the chair. Things were looking bleak for Grappler 2 until Jimmy Valiant came out to talk sense into Manny and get him to stop the beatdown. A shocked David Crockett was recapping the situation when Melina and Tully Blanchard appeared. Melina told David to be quiet and listen while the real boss talks. Tully said the time for games is over and the Mid Atlantic territory isn't big enough for him and Magnum TA anymore. He implored matchmaker Bill Watts to put him and Magnum in a match to settle things once and for all and he wants an answer next week or else. Tommy Rich beat Dirty Frank Dalton with the WILDFIRE SLEEPER.Rich started strong until Dalton got some separation and regrouped. He slapped Rich in the face and attempted an eye gouge, but he just made Wildfire angry. Rich fired back and put him away with the sleeper in a two minute match. Rich went over to talk to Tony and David after the match, but DISCO INFERNO interrupted. He said people can't forget who has been carrying this show for months just because Jerry Brisco got one lucky win. He says Rich has got Nick Bockwinkel on his mind, but Disco Inferno should be the one who gets a world title match next. He challenged Rich to a match next week and Rich wasted no time accepting. Johnny Saint beat Exotic Adrian Street via the THREE IN ONE.Street and Saint rushed each other and exchanged forearms center ring before the introductions could get done. Street took over, but Saint came back and locked in the Three In One. Street fought him off but Saint went right back to it in the middle of the ring to get the win.
Bob Backlund and Jimmy Valiant defeated Masked Superstar and Grappler when Backlund pinned Superstar. Great main event action once again. At one point Grappler had Valiant outside of the ring and tried to take a chair to him like Manny did to Grappler 2 earlier in the show, but Backlund ran over and made the save by grabbing the chair. In the end Superstar and Backlund ended up in the ring and had a fantastic series of moves and counters until Bob finally used the ATOMIC DROP to get the pin as Jimmy prevented interference.

AWA ALL STAR WRESTLING the Major League Of Professional Wrestling with your host Larry Nelson Larry introduced the show and promised "an exciting hour of professional wrestling" then threw it to the opening bout from the Showboat in Las Vegas.
Ric McCord and Steve Regal wrestled to a double countout. Two men who are no strangers picked up right where they left off in Mid Atlantic. They fought hard for almost ten minutes before the bout spilled outside of the ring. The men began to fight on the floor and the referee could not restore order. In the studio Larry said there was bound to be a rematch between those two "coming to an arena near you real soon". He then introduced a man at the center of controversy after helping Rose and Somers take out Firpo and the Baron, Colonel DeBeers. The good Colonel stated that it was his pleasure helping out his old friend Buddy Rose in taking care of "a pair of undesirables" and he will be in the corner of Rose and Somers whenever they need him. Nelson asked if DeBeers was afraid of reprisals. The Colonel laughed and said there's nobody of his pure blood and noble stock in the AWA who can do a thing to stop him. Sherri Martel defeated Tina Ferrari with a top rope splash. Great match. Tina would not quit, kicking out of four pin attempts and frustrating Martel with her continuous comebacks. Martel finally managed to score the pin with her top rope splash, but she for sure knew she was in a battle. Larry: :AMAZING ladies action! And now, we take a look at a tag team beyond description. The most FABULOUS duo in pro wrestling today! Brought to you by Fabulous Jackie Fargo down in our sister promotion in Memphis, we see STAN LANE AND STEVE KEIRN, THE FABULOUS ONES!" The Fabulous Ones defeated The Texas Hangmen when Steve pinned Killer after the FABULOUS FOREARM. The Fabs lived up to the name with a spectacular win over the Hangmen. Killer and Psycho got some offense, but the outcome was never in doubt as Steve and Stan used superior skill and agility to keep the bigger men off balance and get the decisive win. Larry The Axe Hennig pinned The Crusher in a no disqualification match. Smash mouth wrestling at it's finest. Crusher seemed to have it won with the stomach claw, but Hennig fought back and hit the AXE out of nowhere for the pin. Larry: "I suspect that feud is far from over. And now, before we take a look at the NWA world champion Nick Bockwinkel in action, I'd like to bring out the FORMER world heavyweight champion, Jack Brisco." Jack: "Thanks, Larry. Bockwinkel is riding high right now, but we'll see what the pressure of being world champion does to him. You have to leave your comfort zone. He talked about hating the south. Well I'm no fan of the cold and snow but here I am because that's what a champion does: whatever it takes and wherever he's called. I'd be lying if I said I didn't want to earn a title rematch and get back what belongs to me, but it will be fun seeing what the pressure does to Nick in the process." NWA Champion Nick Bockwinkel defeated Mad Dog Vachon via Bockwinkel Sleeper. Mad Dog fought like...well, a Mad Dog. He had used the Mad Dog Pounce to set up a PILEDRIVER for a tense moment and a close two count. Nick got his foot on the rope for the break and went on to come back and lock in the sleeper hold for the victory.

Those music videos were so legendary I had to use one. Hangmen's poor agility made it a pretty one sided affair. Every time they'd get an advantage an agility move would reverse it, which is kind of what I was hoping for. So it was a win all around.
