CWA with you host, Lance Russell Lance welcomed everyone to the show and was right away interrupted by Austin Idol and Jimmy Hart. Lance told Jimmy it was despicable what he did last week, coming out here dressed as a lady to help Austin beat Dundee in that non-title match. Jimmy swore it wasn't him and swore he'd put a stop to the battle royal for the number one contender match. Austin said the guys in the back think they're getting ready to see which one will luck - not earn, but luck - into a match with the champ, but the lawyers are at work on a last minute injunction to put a stop to it. That brought out matchmaker Eddie Marlin, who said they needed to stop the nonsense because it WILL happen and he's brought in a few surprise entrants from outside of the territory to make it interesting. Jimmy demanded to know who, but Marlin said he'd have to wait until later tonight. Hart was jumping up and down upset, but said he had to go to the ring for his man Lanny Poffo and he's got a surprise up his sleeve for Marlin, too.
Lanny Poffo demolished Ken Raper. Ken tried a dropkick right off the bat, but Lanny moved out of the way and used one of his own. It was all Lanny from there, as he beat down his opponent en route to an easy victory.A video message from NWA WORLD CHAMPION NICK BOCKWINKEL was played. Nick said he hears the officials in Memphis are playing as dirty with Austin Idol as the NWA committee is with the world champ. But just as Nick will survive the challenge of Backlund later this week, so too will Idol come out victorious in the end. And then the world champion will perform his duties and come down to the CWA and defend his title with as much dignity and class as the Universal Heartthrob. Jerry Brisco defeated Brian Christopher to defend the NWA light heavyweight title. There was some back and forth early until BC took over and really controlled most of the match. Finally he made the mistake of throwing Jerry into the ropes. Jerry rebounded and stuck the challenger with a piledriver as he bent over for a backdrop, then used the OKLAHOMA ROLL for the pin. After the bell Christopher's tag team partner Scott Taylor ran out and attacked Jerry from behind. They laid a beating on the champ, finished by the top rope leg drop by Brian. The duo walked over to talk to disappointed Lance Russell who said that was a terrible way to end what was a sportsmanlike affair. BC said everyone knows he should be the new champ right now except the ref fast counted him. Taylor agreed and said that's why he ran out to do what he did. Christopher finished by warning that they are not playing nice anymore, because nice guys finish last. Jimmy Hart appeared once again and said those are his type of men, but speaking of his men, he pulled some strings and made a few quick cash transactions. Now OX BAKER has taken one of the spots in the battle royal and he's got one job, and that's to WIN the thing and keep any outsiders from challenging the champ. DUTCH MANTELL headed over on his way to the ring and said "good luck with that" because as far as he's concerned Ox has a big ol' target on his back. During the introductions the fans were delighted to hear BRAD ARMSTRONG get called to the ring, booed loudly at finding out EXOTIC ADRIAN STREET was in the house, and were mildly interested to find out what Portland mainstay DUTCH SAVAGE could do in the ring, and amused at the idea of possible Dutch on Dutch violence. Superstar Bill Dundee won the 10 man battle royal to earn a title match. order of elimination: 1. Randy Rose by Dutch Mantell 2.Jackie Fargo by Ox Baker 3. Tracy Smothers by Ox Baker 4. Doug Gilbert by Adrian Street 5. Brad Armstrong by Ox Baker 6. Dutch Mantell by Adrian Street 7. Dutch Savage by Ox Baker 8. Ox Baker by Bill Dundee 9. Adrian Street by Bill Dundee
The fans went wild as Dundee ducked a charging Adrian as he ran at Bill in the corner. Adrian went flying over the top rope and Dundee was declared the winner.
The exhausted winner still had energy to go talk to Lance after the win. He said Hart pulled a stunt last week, but the Superstar doesn't stay down that easy and in the big match, when it's all on the line, Dundee will show Idol who the big man really is!
* I was relieved at this outcome. I could have booked around anyone but Doug Gilbert winning though, so all good! I didn't think it was a real gamble putting him in there for fill out the ten. And I need a deeper Memphis roster QUICK!

The Big Eventlive from the Omni in Atlanta, GA Tony and David opened the show and then threw it to the locker room area where Gordon Solie was standing by with Magnum TA. Magnum said it's an exciting night and the electricity is in the air. Magnum said Ranger Ross and Patriot both have a chance for some revenge on the Russians tonight and he'll be standing by watching to make sure everything is cool. IVAN KOLOFF walked in and said he'd do nothing but watch the Americans lose yet again. A pull apart brawl began and commissioner BILL WATTS entered the scene. He said if they want to go at it so bad, the ring is out there and they can take it out front so the fans can see it. Magnum TA and Ivan Koloff wrestled to a double countout. This did not last long. They brawled in the ring, Ivan bailed out, and Magnum gave chase. They kept fighting and the referee counted both men out (double DQ on out of ring chart). After the bell they just kept fighting, so BILL WATTS got on the mic and said they both needed to be escorted out of the building and they'd be barred from the rest of the show.Thunderbolt Patterson defeated Thnuderfoot II after a HEAD BUTT and pin. This was a nice "welcome back" match for Thunderbolt, who has been away for several months. Thunderfoot put up a fight, but Patterson got the pin in under four minutes. Ranger Ross came from behind to beat Redd Dogg after a COMBAT KICK.Redd Dogg was laying into Ross the entire match, but could not keep him down. He hit the BLACKOUT but Ross managed to kick out right before the three count. Dogg used a bear hug, but Ross broke free and used a suplex to set up the Combat Kick for the pin. The Moondogs won a triple threat match over the Rock N Roll Express and the Road Warriors to become the NEW NWA world tag team champions. This was a long and grueling affair. Late in the match the Moondogs broke up a pin on Ricky by Animal and attacked with the bones. The Warriors were laid out on the apron as the Express and the Moondogs did battle. Rex and Spot used the MOONDOG SPLASH on Ricky for the Spot cover and pin. Gordon was standing by in the locker room after the match. He was quick to point out that the Road Warriors had lost the tag team championship even though they were not involved in the deciding fall, "a rare situation indeed". He then introduced a man who hopes to win the NWA world title in more decisive fashion tonight, Bob Backlund. Bob gave the humble babyface contender promo and we're off to the next match. Nikita Koloff defeated the Patriot in a bloody Russian Chain Match. Patriot did not go down easily, once taking the RUSSIAN SICKLE but stopping Nikita from touching the fourth buckle JUST in time. Patriot mounted a comeback, but Nikita caught him with a Russian Sickle using the chain to end the rally and give the Russian the win in his specialty match. In the post match interview Nikita said the humiliation on the United States must continue, and the way to do that is become the next US champion. He warned, in his classic broken English, that it doesnt matter if Rich or Fernandez wins later because the title is coming home to Mother Russia. The Spoiler (w/JJ Dillon) defeated Jimmy Valiant via pinfall. This was a nice, long, back and forth match. Jimmy looked to have it won, then Spoiler made his comeback only to see Jimmy survive sure defeat. Finally they fought outside of the ring and Spoiler gained the advantage. He tossed Jimmy back into the ring the used a double arm suplex for the pin. Wildfire Tommy Rich defeated Raging Bull Manny Fernandez to defend the US title. Great straight forward match. The end came in about seven minutes when Rich caught Manny on the rebound off the ropes and put him down with the THESZ PRESS for the pin. Following the match NIKITA KOLOFF attacked Rich. Manny rolled out of the way as the Russian put the boots to Tommy. A digusted Manny looked on for a few moments, then threw his hands in the air and walked away as referees and officials rushed out to stop Nikita from injuring the US champ. NWA champion NICK BOCKWINKEL was in the locker room for a pre-match interview. He said the NWA has been trying to run him down and wear him out so they can intall their favorites like Bob Backlund as champion, but it won't work. The reason is because he has an ace up his sleeve, so to speak. A manager to take care of his travel and accomadations and to watch his back from ringside to make sure everything remains fair. Nick then welcomed BACK to the world of pro wrestling after a brief endeavor elsewhere, his manger BOBBY THE BRAIN HEENAN. Heenan said the fools running the NWA don't know what they have in Nick Bockwinkel and they wouldn't know what to do with him even if they did. He said he's here to make sure everyone knows who the premier athlete is in all of the world, not just wrestling. He said endorsements are coming, talk show appearances, the works! But first, they go to the ring and take care of "Howdy Doody". Nick Bockwinkel defeated Bob Backlund via FIGURE FOUR to defend the NWA world title. Fantastic match. Really pleased with how this one went. A solid fifteen minutes that ended when Nick slapped on the figure four. Bob was trying to reach for the ropes to break, but Bobby pulled the bottom rope back so it was JUST out of reach. The referee was watching Bob's shoulders, which were down as he stretched for the rope, and counted the pin.

Glad to see the Moondogs win the belts. One thing my tag tournament has shown me is those cards perform surprisingly well against the top teams.
Could watch Bockwinkel vs Backlund time and again and not get bored.

I had the rules of that triple threat set to where tag team pin saves were not used since there's a 50 percent chance the pin will get broken up using the triple threat chart anyway (even die roll means the pin break chart is used). So it was really a gamble every time an odd number was rolled after all of them had plenty of tokens. Moondogs were just the ones on top when the right roll occurred. They did hold their own in the match though and it will be interesting to see if they can defend them since I've got the RnR set up as natural contenders and Ricky and Robert are unbeaten against them.

CWA wrestling AKA Memhis rasslin! with your host, Lance Russell Lance did the show open and was joined by Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert. Eddie decalred Lance the luckiest man in television because Hot Stuff is now the new co-host of the show. This came as a surprise to Lance, but he rolled with it and welcomed out their first guests Tracy Smothers and Brad Armstrong. Brad said Tracy and he saw what Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor did to Jerry Brisco last week and they were disgusted. Tracy said that's why they agreed to team up this week and challenge Christopher and Taylor to a tag team match. Gilbert wished them luck and said they're gonna need it. Exotic Adrian Street defeated David Haskins with ease.Street tore into his opponent at the bell, and had no trouble getting the win inside of two minutes. After the match Street spoke with Lance and Gilbert. Adrian said if the people thought they'd seen the last of him last week they were sadly mistaken. He declared that the title match taking place later tonight should have been his except for the underhanded tactics of "that little troll" Superstar Bill Dundee. He said he'd be watching later and no matter what the outcome he has his eyes on some new gold for around his waist. Ox Baker (w/Jimmy Hart) defeated Dutch Mantell with the HEART PUNCH.A good match here. Ox controlled the pace, which means it was a methodical affair for most of the bout. Late in the match Ox tossed Dutch out of the ring and Jimmy Hart distracted ther referee. Ox pulled something out of his tights and wrapped it around his hand. When Dutch got back into the ring Ox leveled him with a loaded Heart Punch for the pin. Dutch had to be carried out of the ring after the match and appeared to be injured. Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor beat Tracy Smothers and Brad Armstrong when BC pinned Smothers.Taylor and Christopher were just too coordinated in their teamwork for the perhaps more talented irregular tag team to overcome. BC hit the top rope legdrop after about six minutes of action and Taylor cut off the ring to keep Armstrong for making the save. After the match Lance and Eddie bantered. Gilbert said he always knew the Armstrongs were stupid, but he has no clue what Brad thought teaming with that goof Smothers against a seasoned tag team like that. Brad heard and walked over. He said Taylor and Christopher got the better of them on that day, but every dog has his day...unless that dog's last name is Gilbert. Eddie got hot and Brad challenged him, but Hot Stuff calmed down and said he's here in the capacity of a broadcaster so Brad needs to vacate the area before he has security escort him out. Cut to pre-taped action from Atlanta, where Nick Bockwinkel defended the NWA world title against Bob Backlund. After that was shown a clip of Nick and manager Bobby Heenan at poolside in a luxury hotel. Bobby said the champ is living the life and making more money in a week than most humanoids make in a year. But soon he's going to be forced to come down to Memphis to defend the NWA world title. Nick said that's when the real money will be earned, because it's a chore to have to compete in front of the backwoods crowd from the land time forgot. But a champion goes where he is needed, and whoever is determined worthy will fall to the greatest wrestler walking the planet. Superstar Bill Dundee defeated Austin Idol (w/Jimmy Hart) to win the Southern title.Fantastic match. In the end Superstar was on top after the Bomb but Hart had the ref distracted. Lanny Poffo came out and dropped a knee on the back of Dundee. Idol recovered and used a piledriver before going for the pin, but Dundee kicked out right before the three count. Dundee mounted a comeback and used the Bomb again. Hart tried to distract but was stopped by matchmaker Eddie Marlin as the referee counted Idol down and declared Dundee the new champion. Dundee celebrated the win and talked with Lance Russell. He said whoever wants a crack at the belt can step up and they'll get a crack in the jaw instead for the effort. Street or whoever it may be has fair warning that the Superstar will not go down easy. He then said he doesn't mean to overlook defending a belt he just won, but he heard Nick Bockwinkel is bringing the NWA world title to the area soon and he can't think of a better challenger than himself.

Dundee claiming the gold is always cool. Nice to see Street do this thing as well. ...... And as you can tell by the last part of that show, when Nick comes to Memphis with the NWA belt Dundee will be the guy now. I had a story in mind to make it Nick and Austin, but then Dundee won and that match is WAY easier to make than the "heels have a misunderstanding" angle, which also would have been fun now that I have Bobby Heenan with Nick and Austin has Jimmy. Anyway, look for Street to challenge Dundee here pretty soon if I can get him built up because they had a fun little feud IRL I'd like to sort of recreate. May even need to get Cornette in there with Street for good measure.

A Cornette appearance would be appropriate. I think even without a title match, you can have fun with Heenan and Hart promoing against each other like Dillon and Hart did there for a bit.
