Once again, it's time for Saturday Night on the Superstation
Schiavone and Ross kick off the show hyping the big New Year's day card coming this week. The main event will see Savage and Magnum versus Windham and Race in a "call your shot match" with the winner of the fall getting a match of his choosing at a later date. Also just announced the debut of a man who has been terrorizing Japan, BIG VAN VADER. And so much more.
But tonight we see another big debut, as a huge star out of New York is coming down south promising to show us all what it takes to be a star in the big leagues.
But now, let's get to the ring!
-Masked Superstar made quick work of George South. The story here was Superstar was followed to the ring by JJ DILLON. Dillon watched from the corner as Superstar dismantled South with ease. After the match JJ shook Superstar's hand and they headed to the back together.
-Rock N Roll Express beat Milliman and Jay with a Ricky cross body on Milliman for an easy win.
After the match Ricky and Robert joined Schiavone at ringside. Ricky said they took a shot at the tag team champs and missed, but they're back in the ring to take another swing, baby. Then out came the HEAVENLY BODIES. Doctor Tom said they had a chance and lost and now they need to step aside. Robert reminded Tom how the RnR got that shot (by beating the Bodies) and Stan said maybe they can correct that mistake tonight. Ricky finished it with a "challenge accepted. Meet us in the ring for the main event, Jack."
- Brad Armstrong defeated Nikolai Volkoff via Russian Leg Sweep in a really good match. Before the bout it was announced by Ross on commentary that due to the recent events between the Russians and the Armstrong/Valiant/Duggan alliance all weapons are barred from ringside. No chains, no boards, no flag poles. So these guys went in and had a match that was better than it had any right to be. Brad got the clean pin ironically with the Russian Leg Sweep.
And now, the superstar with the flash and glitz that the New York office loves! The man who is here to show the people how to "get over with the fans" and get on network TV.....
The DISCO INFERNO!
- Disco beat Sam Houston with Last Dance in a very competitive match. Disco kept getting the advantage, then wasting it away by dancing instead of going for the win. He had the routine down, but in the ring....not so much. It took everything he had to beat a game Sam Houston. After the bell Disco demanded to hear his music one more time as he danced an agonizingly long time right into the commercial break.
Ross and Schivone came back from break still in disgust at the display of Disco Inferno. And had to go to another man who can turn the strongest stomach, prerecorded comments from Mr Jim Cornette. Cornette was seen in at his momma's house in a wheel chair and wearing a neck brace. An ominous figure stood behind him in black hat and sunglasses, arms folded and scowling. Cornette said he is resting and recovering from the heinous attack at the hands of the Road Warriors, but rest assured it will not happen again. Momma Cornette has bought the best bodyguard money can buy to make sure of it. His name is MR HUGHES. And with Cornette at ringside and Mr Hughes behind him, the Midnight Express will make the Road Warriors pay in the ring and take the world tag team titles.
-The Rock n Roll Express beat The Heavenly Bodies with a double dropkick on Stan in a tag team classic. There is no finer territory for tag team than the NWA Championship promotion, and these guys proved it once again. The Bodies did all they could to avenge their previous loss, but Ricky and Robert were just too good on this night.
Announced for the New Year Spectacular: Savage and Magnum versus Race and Windham
Tag team title match Road Warriors versus Midnight Express
Adrian Street versus Johnny Saint 2 out of 3 falls
The Armstrongs and Valiant versus The Russian Coalition
Superfly Snuka versus Abdullah The Butcher
Light heavyweight title match Jim Brunzell versus Steve Regal
Plus, the debut of Big Van Vader

The New Year's Spectacular (This show was a lot of fun to roll. Almost every match was a good one.) - The Russians defeated The Armstrongs and Jimmy Valiant when Nikolia pinned Jimmy after his overhead backbreaker. Very solid 3 star opener full of action. - Jim Brunzell defeated Mr Electricity Steve Regal to win the NWA lightheavyweight title. Classic wrestling contest that could have gone either way. Lots of near falls on both sides with Brunzell finally hitting the dropkick center ring after about twelve minutes. - Johnny Saint beat Adrian Street in two out of three falls. 1. Street beat Saint with a Crucifix in a long fall. 2. Saint came back after confounding Street with the Russ Abbott to tie it up. 3. Saint locked in the Three In One after a battle of a final fall to get the decision. - Superfly Snuka won by disqualification over Abdullah The Butcher when JJ Dillon ran in to break up a pin. Abby battered Snuka early, but Superfly fought back and knocked the big man down. He went up top and hit the Superfly Splash, prompting JJ to jump in the ring out of desperation and kick Snuka to break the pin. After the bell Snuka grabbed JJ by the collar and was getting ready to do damage when Abdullah recovered and attacked Snuka with a fork. Snuka was covered in blood when Bruiser Brody ran out in street clothes and went to battle with Abdullah, fighting through the crowd and to the back. - The Road Warriors (w/Ellering) beat the Midnight Express (w/Cornette and Mr Hughes) to defend the world tag team championship. Hughes made his presence known, standing between Jim and Hawk when Hawk was chasing Cornette on the floor after Jim grabbed Hawk's leg to prevent him from climbing the top rope on Dennis. That let the Express get back into the match for a while, but in the end Animal hit a power slam out of nowhere to get the win. - Big Van Vader made an impressive debut by beating Randy and Bill Mulkey in a handicap match. Vader won inside of two minute after the Vader Bomb on Bill and then a power bomb on Randy. To put the exclamation point on things he dragged the brothers side by side and pinned them both at once. - Randy Savage and Magnum TA defeated Harley Race and Barry Windham in a wild war when Magnum pinned Race. At one point Race seemed ready to get in the ring to break a pin with Barry on top of Randy, and you can be sure if Harley won the fall he'd have double crossed Windham and asked for the world title rematch (because that was the plan if he did ). It was not to be though, as we got the Cinderella finish with Magnum coming back from a beating to hit a running forearm for the pin as Macho Man held off Barry.

NWA Worldwide
with Gordon Solie and Bob Caudle
Gordon and Bob did the introductions and recapped the happenings from the New Year's show. Gordon announced that Windham came up short in his effort to secure a world title match via shortcut, but he'll have a chance to do it the honest way and earn it if he can get through the four match tournament the NWA governing body has put together with matches from four of the major territories in the country. And that tournament will kick off.... right now.
John Tolos vs. Jim Londos Jim Londos defeated John Tolos via disqualification Match Notes: Tolos was out to show he was the one and only Golden Greek, and he did in fact dominate the match. However he made the mistake of taking the battle to the floor and got himself disqualified for not listening to the referee and instead running Londos headfirst into the corner post. Londos got his hand raised, but was bleeding profusely and barely able to stand after the bell.
Nick Bockwinkle vs. Larry Hennig Nick Bockwinkle defeated Larry Hennig with a Bockwinkle Sleeper Match Notes: Bockwinkle won a solid, evenly contested match after a series of piledrivers wore down Hennig for the sleeper. Hennig kept refusing to stay down for the pin, so Nick had to change up the strategy and put him to sleep.
A video package/highlight reel was shown of BIG VAN VADER destroying opponents in Japan. Afterwards Bob said Vader has dominated the best competition from Germany to Japan and wondered who would stop him now that he's made his way to the NWA.
Steve Corino vs. Rob Van Dam Rob Van Dam defeated Steve Corino on yet another disqualification Match Notes: Corino was in serious trouble after an onslaught by RVD, so he rolled out to the floor and grabbed a wrench from under the ring. When RVD gave chase Corino hit Van Dam in the head with the wrench in plain sight of the referee, apparently forgetting the bout was being contested under the sanctioning body of the NWA . Or perhaps to get intentionally disqualified and save face. Either way, the officials are allowing no leeway for this tournament and RVD advances.
In a non-tournament bout from the St Louis territory Ace Orton vs. Blackjack Mulligan Blackjack Mulligan defeated Ace Orton with a CALWHOLD Match Rating: 2.50 Match Notes: The men traded shots center ring to start the bout, with Orton seemingly coming out on top after a series of rights. Mulligan came firing back though and made his comeback to lock in the claw and get the win.
Barry Windham vs. Bob Armstrong Barry Windham defeated Bob Armstrong with a superplex Match Rating: 3.50 Match Notes: Bob Amrstrong brought the fight to Windham, but it wasn't enough to overcome the sheer determination of the man from Sweetwater to advance in the tournament for a shot at the world champion.
Following the contest Gordon got words from Barry Windham. Windham said Savage wasn't getting off so easy just because his partner pinned Harley. Barry vowed to get his title shot even if it meant going through the best three other territories have to offer. ROB VAN DAM arrived on the scene and asked Barry if he remembers him. "Of course you do, Barry," Van Dam helpfully answered on Barry's behalf. He continued, "You thought you got rid of (thumbs point to self) ROB VAN DAM, but just because I went back to Philly doesn't mean I forgot about you". RVD finished by saying beating Barry and making sure he doesn't get a title shot is going to be almost as sweet as going on to win the NWA world title.
And we're outta time!

It's Saturday Niiiiight! with Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone.
The show opened with Tony and Jim talking about the big happenings in the NWA, including a reversal of a decision from the New Year's show. Ross explained that Jim Brunzell FAILED TO MAKE WEIGHT at the 230 pound cutoff, coming in at 232 pounds. Therefore Brunzell wins the match, but it was by default a NON-TITLE match and MR ELECTRICITY STEVE REGAL IS STILL LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION. However, he will be defending tonight against Johnny Saint.
As Tony began to run down the action that was to be seen on the show he was interrupted by DISCO INFERNO. Disco said he's here to provide guest commentary because "no one likes your southern accents anyway". The very annoyed commentary duo threw it to the ring for the opening contest.
- Scott and Bill Irwin defeated Johnny Mantell and George South. Mantell got some nice offense in, but ended up on the receiving end and had to tag out to South. South fought and gave his effort, but in the end a superplex by Scott gave the Long Riders the win.
Following the match BARRY WINDHAM and the LONG RIDERS, collectively the Outlaws of Wrestling, arrived at the commentary position. Barry Windham told everyone you just saw why he associates with the Irwin brothers, because they do what it takes to win. Just like he's going to do when he runs through everyone in the NWA and gets his opportunity to go one-on-one with Savage for the world title. Bill added that the Irwins aren't done with the Fantastics either and then it's on to another shot at the Road Warriors to give the Outlaws all the gold that matters.
- Johnny Saint won a very hot contest via countout over Mr Electricity Steve Regal in a light heavyweight title match. Regal gave Saint all he could handle and got several near falls, but the trickery of Saint caught him twice with the Johnny Saint special and the Russ Abbott coming into play. Finally, Regal rolled out to catch his breath and DISCO INFERNO ran over from the commentary position holding the light heavyweight title belt. Disco grabbed Regal by the arm and led him to the back for the intentional countout while whispering something in the champ's ear.
- The Bolsheviks pulled a mild upset over The Fantastics with the Soviet Stomp on Bobby. Tommy and Bobby started hot with Bobby hitting a cross body for a quick near fall on Boris. But they stalled against the power advantage of the Russians and nothing they did really worked the rest of the match. Nikolai tagged out to Boris and they used their tag team finisher most people probably forgot they had since they barely ever won with it and scored the clean win.
United States champion HARLEY RACE joined Ross at ringside for an interview. Race said Magnum got his little fairy tale win on New Year's day, but that fairy tale is about to become a nightmare next week when reality sets in and he realizes exactly who he is up against. MAGNUM TA came to ringside to get in Race's face and tell him he knows precisely who he is tangling with, and he only wants the best competition and to show everybody what the US title represents: the greatest country and the greatest athletes the world has ever known. Race simply replied "good luck, kid. You're gonna need it" and confidently walked away with his title belt under his arm.
- Bruiser Brody defeated Masked Superstar after the jumping knee. Brody survived an early onslaught that saw Superstar gain three near falls, including a very close call after the spinning neckbreaker. Brody hammered his way back and hit the jumping knee for the pin as JJ DILLON tried in vain to distract the referee.
After the match ABDULLAH THE BUTCHER waddled out to cause mayhem, but Brody was a step ahead and was swinging his chain high overhead in the ring as JJ rallied his troops and ordered his men to retreat, talking tough about how "this isn't over: as he back peddled, of course.

NWA Worldwide
with Gordon Solie and Bob Caudle
Solie and Bob introduced this show, a special edition featuring the semi-finals and finals of the nationwide tournament to determine the next challenger for Randy Savage's NWA world heavyweight championship.
Nick Bockwinkle defeated Jim Londos with the Bockwinkle sleeper
Londos was all offense early on and Bockwinkle had no answer. Finally, Bockwinkle got his opening and launched an offensive, nearly winning on a countout after a suplex on the arena floor and then immediately going to the figure four once Londos crawled back in to barely beat the count. Londor made one last ditch effort to come back, but Nick put him away with the sleeper to win a grueling bout.
After the match Bob got words with the winner. Nick said Windham and Van Dam can argue all they want, but they have overlooked the fact that the most accomplished grappler in the world is here and he just beat Jim Londos to advance to the finals.
Blackjack Mulligan beat Brian James with the claw hold
Blackjack apparently took young Brian James lightly and almost got upset after the upstart hit a big standing dropkick for a near fall. James took a horrendous beating but would not stay down, eventually bleeding from the forehead after being trapped in the claw hold. After a few close moments and a lot of effort, Blackjack finally kept his opponent down for the win.
A weary Mulilgan was still ringside regaining his composure as Barry Windham made his way to the ring for the next match. Windham looked at Blackjack, laughed, and said "watch and learn, old man" before brushing past him to enter the ring. Blackjack grabbed a chair from ringside and it appeared that he may hit Windham from behind. Instead he set the chair down ringside and sat down to watch the match.
Barry Windham pinned Rob Van Dam after the flying lariat
Windham and RVD stood toe to toe and traded punches at the opening bell. Windham got the better of the exchange, but Van Dam came right back. The action spilled to the floor where WIndham came out on top. Barry brought RVD back into the ring, spat at Blackjack, and Blackjack jumped up on the apron. Windham and Mulligan began arguing as RVD recovered and charged. WIndham moved and RVD collided with Blackjack, knocking him off the apron. RVD stumbled and turned around into the lariat to set up the pin and advance Windham to the tournament final.
Marcus Bagwell pinned Randy Rose with the Yellowjacket Suplex in a non-tournament bout.
Two men trying to find a spot for themselves mixed it up in non-tournament action. Marcus Bagwell had the moves, but Randy Rose had tenacity, somehow surviving five near fall attempts before getting hit with the Yellow Jacket suplex center ring for the pin.
Barry Windham was interviewed by Gordon in the back before the match. He had the Long Riders with him and said he's not worried about Bockwinkle because destiny is his to fulfill. He added that he needs backup at ringside though, just in case crazy Mulligan comes back for more. Gordon asked what the source of the apparent strife is between Barry and Blackjack. Barry sneered at him and told him to mind his own business before motioning the Long Riders to follow him to the ring.
Nick Bockwinkle defeated Barry Windham via figure four to secure the tournament victory.
The bell rang and a mat classic ensued. Bockwinkle seemed to have the match won when Bill Irwin jumped on the apron to distract the ref as Nick had the figure four locked on Barry. Scott Irwinreached in and raked Nick's eyes to break the hold. Windham fought back and had Bockwinkle seriously fatigued after several pin attempts and a figure four of his own. As it seemed Bockwinkle was ready to submit Blackjack Mulligan came out with a chair and began chasing the Long Riders around the ring. That caused the distraction that gave Bockwinkle time to recover and hit a piledriver and once again put on his version of the figure four to get the win.
Following the win NWA champion RANDY SAVAGE appeared in the ring. The battered WIndham tried to attack, but Savage fought him off and sent him flying out of the ring. Then the champ turned to his newly appointed challenger and said it looks like the next stop is Minneapolis and Nick Bockwinkle had better bring his "a" game to the ring because the Macho Man doesn't like the cold and he wants to make it quick. Bockwinkle laughed and said the Macho Man had better bring a lunch and a warm coat because it will be a long night.
........................................
NOTE: this is called "the best laid plans of mice and monkeys" stuff. The dice did their thing and caused me to have to change plans on the fly here. SO it's Nick Bockwinkle out of nowhere and my next big supercard will apparently revolve around the Minnesota territory.

It's Saturday Niiiiiight With Tony and Jim
- The Midnight Express (w/Cornette and Mr Hughes) beat Dale Veasey and Bob Cook. Midnights beat up Dale and Cook never got tagged into the match. After the bell Hughes dragged Cook in and gave him the SPIKE SLAM so he wouldn't feel left out.
After the bout a raging JC joined Ross and Schiavone at the commentary area. He said mama Cornette didn't raise him to be second best and he's not about to let a setback derail his team from their rightful place at the top.
- Hacksaw Duggan won by disqualification over Ivan Koloff. Wild brawl of a match that took place all over the ringside area. Hacksaw took over in the ring and used a spinning slam for the cover, but the Bolsheviks ran out and put the boots to Hacksaw for the disqualification. Things were looking bad for Hacksaw until THE ROCK N ROLL EXPRESS ran out to make the save. Hacksaw rolled out to brawl with Ivan while the Express stood toe to toe with Nikolia and Boris.
Annnnnd, since they were scheduled to face each other in the next bout, the referee said let's get it on and called for the bell.
-The Bolsheviks upset the Rock N Roll Express when Boris pinned Ricky after the Soviet Stomp. Yeah, that happened. Ricky and Robert hit the double dropkick on Boris in the opening minute, but Nikolai made the save. The Russians got back into the match and finally trapped Ricky in the ring. One Soviet Stomp later, with Nik keeping Robert out of the ring, and the Bolsheviks are on a two match win streak over my best teams.
Next up, Jim Ross calls out BLACKJACK MULLIGAN to the commentary station. After welcoming him to the territory and a recap of events from Worldwide Ross asked what Blackjack's beef with Barry Windham is all about. Mulligan said the old saying goes that curiosity killed the commentator and his business is his business, but Barry may need a reminder of his place in the pecking order, which Blackjack may or may not be here to provide.
-Big Van Vader defeated Brad Armstrong. Brad wasn't about to lay down for the mastadon, hitting a big dropkick early followed by a running knee lift that sent Vader to one knee. Vader got back into form quickly and did his patented beat down before using a power bomb for the pin.
Cut to JJ Dillon with Masked Superstar and Abdullah in pretaped comments. JJ said Superstar came to him to right some wrongs done by Superfly Snuka and Brody and JJ knew just the man to come in and collect, Abdullah. Superstar promised Snuka and Brody would pay and Abdullah and he will get the job done that Bundy couldn't finish.
And the main event we have all been waiting for...
Magnum TA pinned Harley Race to win the United States championship. There isn't going to be a dramatic chase for the championship I envisioned for Magnum, because he apparently has Race's number in my game. Race controlled the outset but Magnum would not stay down. Magnum hit the running forearm be used to beat Race last time and got a near fall. TA, undaunted, picked Race right up and used the belly to belly to seal the deal.
Show ends with TA celebrating with the fans, US title belt raised high overhead.
............ Show notes: random squash guy names are me using the b/w Mr X card and Jake Millikan cards with different names to keep it fresh
The Bolsheviks are 2-0 over the teams I was trying to give "get over" wins, so I guess there's a push to the top for the Russian faction in the near future. Ivan may bring in a heavy hitter for security.

SUPERCLASH A Minnesota Pro Wrestling Club event Under the auspices of the National Wrestling Alliance
Ray Stevens won by disqualification over Larry Zbyszko Former teammates turned enemies squared off in the opening bout. Larry controlled most of the match until a flurry by Stevens. Larry rolled out of the ring and grabbed the bell hammer. When Stevens gave chase Larry rang his bell and got disqualified.
The Flying Redheads beat The Sheepherders when Bastien pinned Butch. The Sheepherders seemed to have no answer for the speed advantage of Bastien and Lyons. They finally took over on Lyons, but Billy made the defensive tag and Red Bastien came in with a flying body press for the pin.
Jumpin Jim Brunzell defeated Terry Gordy with a sleeper. A great match that went about ten minutes with an exciting finish. Gordy used a power bomb for a near fall, then followed up with a pilebriver. Brunzell got his foot on the bottom rope to break the count. Frustrated, Gordy ascended to the top rope. However, he was slow getting up there as Brunzell had worked over the leg earlier in the match. Brunzell recovered and slammed Gordy off the top, then followed with a dropkick for a near fall. Brunzell waited for Gordy to get to his feet and jumped on his back with a sleeper hold that Gordy could not escape.
Prior to the light heavyweight title match , champion Mr Electricity introduced his new personal image consultant, Disco Inferno.
Steve Regal won by countout over Johnny Saint to defend the NWA light heavyweight title. Evenly contested bout. In the end Regal pressed the offense and tried four times to secure the pin to no avail. Finally he tossed Saint to the floor and argued with the referee. Disco grabbed the title belt from the timekeeper and hit Saint over the head with it while the ref was distracted. Saint was out cold and could not beat the ten count.
Stan Hansen pinned The Destroyer after the Lariat. Hansen came in like a wild man and attacked at the bell. Destroyer fired back , but Hansen was too much for him and picked up the win in nearly six minutes.
The Vachons beat Crusher and Baron when Mad Dog pinned Crusher after a piledriver. A wild brawl of a match ended after Mad Dog and Crusher made their way back into the ring after a wild brawl on the floor. While Baron and Butcher continued to fight Mad Dog scored with the piledriver for the pin.
Macho Man Randy Savage beat Nick Bockwinkle to defend the world heavyweight championship. Bockwinkle attacked at the bell but Savage reversed. Bock left the ring to try to regain his composure but Savage ascended the ropes and hit a flying axe handle smash to the floor. Eventually the match settled in to some back and forth action, but the champ kicked it into high gear and got the win with the flying elbow for a clean title defense.

Hey Tony and Jim, it's 6:05 on a Saturday Night!
Show open with a replay of the final moments of Magnum's win over Harley last week.
- Blackjack Mulligan beat Kenny Jay. Jay jumped at the bell, but Mulligan quickly came back and got the pin after a back elbow.
After the match the Long Riders showed up to confront Mulligan. Blackjack said "not so fast, because you've got a match with my buddies Cowboy Scott Casey and Sam Houston tonight. On cue, Sam and Scott came in to back him up
- The Russians beat Bob Armstrong, Jimmy Valiant, and Hacksaw Duggan when Boris pinned Bob after the Soviet Slam.
Tony Schiavone was "graced by the presence" of Mr Electricity Steve Regal and his "image consultant" Disco Inferno. Regal was wearing a bright blue collared shirt, unbuttoned with a big gold chain around his neck. Disco said Regal had the skills but now he looks great too. Disco said they're on such a roll they made need even more gold and the Road Warriors better watch out. Tony rolled his eyes as Regal and Disco danced away.
-The Long Riders beat Cowboy Scott Casey and Sam Houston when Scott Irwin pinned Sam after a suplex.
Jim Ross was joined by new US champion Magnum TA. After the obligatory congratulations, Magnum said the hard part comes now in keeping the title. He said the Russians are on a roll, beating three of the toughest teams out there the past few weeks, but he'd love a chance to end it. So if anyone of the three wants a shot they can step up and find out that the USA will not roll over to communist scum.
- Bruiser Brody and Jimmy Snuka went to a double countout with Abdullah and Masked Superstar. Because of course they did. Great early action, then Brody and Abby took it to the floor and wouldn't return to the ring to beat the count.
While that was going on Masked Superstar loaded his mask and attacked Jimmy with a series of head butts that once again left him laying bleeding as security broke up Brody and Butcher.
