Lelani Kai vs. Mildred Burke
for the NWA Central States Women's Championship
Mildred Burke defeated Lelani Kai with a forearm uppercut at 8:45
Match Rating: 3.00
Match Notes: Mildred Burke is looking for her first defense of the NWA Central States Women's title to be a successful one, and it will be against the former titleholder- the woman she beat - Leilani Kai. The grudge between these two kicked off as soon as the injured Penny Banner announced Burke as her replacement in the title match a few weeks back on Christmas Day.
Burke had this match all sewn up in opening moments, but of course, Judy Martin hopped on the apron to bring about the distraction... Only to be met with a wicked forearm shot from the champ! Burke pressed her advantage, but Kai battled back after ramming Burke's leg into the turnbuckle post from the outside.
Burke was in trouble, and Kai applied a Boston Crab to maximum effect. Burke fought on, though, and returned a volley out of the corner to take full control. She hit a big forearm uppercut that knocked Kai silly and got the 1, 2, 3!
Kai and Martin complained to the ref about a closed fist, but he was having none of it. Beverly Shade attempted a sneak attack on the champ, but Grable and Green made the save!
Kai went after Burke again - this time with a chair! Burke snatched the chair from her! Burke has had enough! She is pummeling Kai and drops her with a big suplex on the concrete floor! Kai is motionless as the fans cheer the champ on!
What a scene!
[It is announced later that Kai will be out for 7 weeks with a herniated disc.]
Danny Hodge vs. Mike DiBiase
for the NWA Central States Middleweight Championship
Danny Hodge defeated Mike DiBiase with an OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL at 4:51
Match Rating: 2.75
Match Notes: This got off to a hot start, and after the two competitors crashed into one another off the ropes, DiBiase was up first and went up top for his finisher! Not once, but twice! He came within a centimeter of reclaiming the title, but Hodge got the shoulder up.
DiBiase began working over Hodge's arm and back - hoping to wear him down for another finish, perhaps. Hodge was hurting, but reversed an arm twist, took DiBiase to the mat, hit a handstand knee drop, and then used the OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL for the victory! That was out of nowhere!
Hodge notches another successful defense of the NWA Central States Middleweight Championship, but just barely.
Dutch Savage vs. Masked Superstar
Dutch Savage defeated Masked Superstar with a JUMPING PILEDRIVER at 15:03
Match Rating: 4.00
Match Notes: No love lost between these two spilling out of the Spoiler/Mulligan feud. It was a good old-fashioned brawl with lots of hot back and forth action both in and out of the ring.
After 15 minutes of hotly contest action, Savage sent Superstar into the ropes, but Superstar rebounded with a sleeper hold! Could this be it? No, Savage gets the ropes and then slides out of the ring. Superstar takes a moment to collect himself, and as he goes to pursue, Savage pulls him out and smashes him into the ring post!
He rolls Superstar back in and hits the JUMPING PILEDRIVER! But here comes Mulligan! Superstar distracts the ref as Mulligan goes for a big lariat, but Savage ducks! Superstar pushes the ref aside, and Mulligan creams his own partner!
The ref stumbles back to his feet and sends Mulligan out of the ring as Savage hits another JUMPING PILEDRIVER and gets the 1, 2, 3!
Mulligan is immediately into the ring to check on his partner and apologizes for hitting him. There's a tense moment as Savage celebrates on the outside with the Central States Heavyweight champ, the Spoiler.
Spoiler taunts Mulligan and lifts his title high as the Blackjack is steaming in the ring. Mulligan helps Superstar back to his feet, and they leave the ring together...
Valiant Brothers vs. The Kangaroos
for the NWA Central States Tag Team Championship
Roy Heffernan defeated Johnny Valiant with a BOOMERANG at 4:34
Match Rating: 2.00
Match Notes: Johnny Valiant was fighting from the bottom from the get-go and in spite of encouragement from his partner - plus a couple saves - he just couldn't turn it around.
The Kangaroos proved why they're the champs with a dominant display. Of course, having Red Berry at ringside didn't hurt either. In the end, a second BOOMERANG spelled doom for Johnny Valiant even as Jimmy tried to make the save.
Jimmy Valiant grabbed a mic and said as far as he was concerned this just evened the odds and if these punks have any guts they'll give them a rematch in a 2/3 falls bout, otherwise, Jimmy promised a bucket of yellow paint over their heads at the next Chase!
Rikidozan vs. Lou Thesz
Lou Thesz defeated Rikidozan with a pinning combo at 19:12
Match Rating: 4.50
Match Notes: The anticipation was high for this co-main event attraction. Thesz's NWA World title is not on the line, but a win here will almost assure that Rikidozan secures another shot. Rikidozan is still smarting off his shocking title loss to the Spoiler, and rumors were flying that he would head back to Japan to regroup. Will a loss here ensure that, or will the win reinvigorate the former champ?
This was an incredibly unique bout that saw both men adhering to more classical approaches to the squared circle game. It was also an incredibly even contest.
Rikidozan had that advantage early, but Thesz took what will arguably go down as a cheap shot from the apron and took over. So much classical sportsmanship...
Thesz pressed his advantage and even hit the GRECO ROMAN BACKDROP, but Rikidozan would not go away so easily. He kicked out and withstood many of Thesz's biggest moves.
Eventually, the Japanese superstar came back and had Thesz reeling with a series of THUNDEROUS CHOPS for a near fall. HIPLOCK and more THUNDEROUS CHOPS, but ever the fighting champion, Thesz, would not stay down.
They continued to battle back and forth, and the crowd was at a fever pitch when Thesz was split open after a headbutt from Rikidozan! Blood streamed down his face, and it looked all but over... Until Thesz came back and hit the GRECO ROMAN BACKDROP again! 1... 2... NO!
Rikidozan is still in this. He rallied once more and looked to come back once again, but Thesz bounced off the ropes and slammed Rikidozan to the mat with a pinning combination for the 1, 2, 3.
Incredible match that had the fans coming unglued at points.
After the bout, the bloody Thesz extended the hand to Rikidozan. Rikidozan looked disappointed in himself and was reluctant to shake but finally accepted.
Have we seen the last of Rikidozan in the Central States?

Hamilton Wrecking Crew vs. and Jerry Brisco, Jack Brisco
Jerry Brisco defeated John Tolos with an OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL at 28:25
Match Rating: 4.75
Match Notes: This match will long be remembered for its sheer brutality. That and the fact that the Briscos proved just how vicious they could be when the situation calls for it.
John Tolos was put through hell by the Briscos coordinated attack, which eventually spilled outside, and blood was shed in large quantities due to the brawling and liberal use of foreign objects.
But the Hamilton Wrecking Crew wasn't out of tricks, and they blasted Jack Brisco with a length of pipe concealed under the ring. Now a bloody mess, Jack Brisco was left out of the match, but his brother more than rose to the occasion.
After nearly 30 minutes of hard-hitting action in front of a rabid crowd, Jack Brisco roared back to life, hit a big jumping knee, and tagged in his brother. The Tolos brothers attempted one last-ditch move, but Jerry Brisco ducked, sent them colliding into one another, and hit the OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL to put the bloody John Tolos down. And he could not answer the 10-count! The Brisco Brothers have taken the match!
