Bill Dundee defeated Bobby Shane with a DQ at 5:10

Match Notes: Tensions were simmering before this bout, but after there's no argument that they've gone to a full boil.

Shane came out strong with some big moves, but Dundee hit a forearm off the ropes and then nailed Shane with his SUPERSTAR BOMB shortly after.

The action spilled outside, and Shane posted Dundee! They brawled around the ringside area with Shane maintaining control. He grabbed a cane from a ringside fan and smashed Dundee with it, and then applied his JAPANESE SLEEPER in the aisle as the ref called for the bell and awarded Dundee the match by way of disqualification.

Beverly Shade vs. Joyce Grable
Beverly Shade defeated Joyce Grable with a count-out at 7:12
Match Rating: 3.00
Match Notes: Shade and Grable have been on the opposite side of the ring from one another for months now, spilling out of the big feud between Leilani Kai and Mildred Burke, and before that, Penny Banner.

Grable started strong, but Shade suckered her outside and smashed her into the guardrail. She worked the legs and back inside as well as hitting a big body slam.

As Grable escaped an Indian Deathlock, she fell outside, and Shade followed. Grable was hurting, and Shade dropped her with a big slam on the outside.

The referee continued the count, and Shade rolled in to secure a count our victory. Judy Martin came down and assisted in a double-team suplex on the outside! Grable was in a bad way, but Sue Green made the save before things could get too out of hand.

This war continues to create aggression.

Bobo Brazil vs. Dutch Savage
Bobo Brazil defeated Dutch Savage with a COCO BUTT at 5:45
Match Rating: 2.75
Match Notes: Good back and forth brawl until Bobo caught Dutch out of the corner with a big tackle. He then downed Savage with two consecutive COCO BUTTS to get the 1, 2, 3.

Bobo Brazil continues to score victories since his loss to Buddy Rogers and capture the fans as they shower him with cheers.

Fabulous Moolah and Toni Rose vs. Mildred Burke and Princess Victoria
Fabulous Moolah defeated Princess Victoria with a BODY PRESS at 1:12
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: This all spun out of Victoria and Rose's budding rivalry and then the appearance of the mysterious masked woman - unveiled to be none other than the Fabulous Moolah. Moolah has designs on Burke's title, but first, there's a score to settle in tag action after a raucous time limit draw on our last card.

Victoria and Rose traded holds, but some underhanded tactics and a top rope neck snap led to a quick tag to Moolah. BODY PRESS! Rose cuts off Burke!

1, 2, 3! Whoa! Moolah with a statement there. She and Rose then double-team Burke until Victoria comes to her senses and evens the odds. Moolah points to Burke's belt on the announce table as she and Rose head for the hills...

Tommy Gilbert vs. Danny Hodge
Danny Hodge defeated Tommy Gilbert with an OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL at 6:55
Match Rating: 3.00
Match Notes: Brutal bout here. They exchanged holds early, and it was a masterclass in technical acumen.

Hodge scored with a hip toss and shot Gilbert into the ropes, but Gilbert came back with a pinning combo and then began hitting big move after big move. He then started brawling with the champ and laid in some heavy shots with his fists.

Gilbert then hit RUNNING KNEE LIFT after RUNNING KNEE LIFT to the side of Hodge's head, and the champ was soon busted open! Blood flowed heavily over his left eye, and the ref checked him, but the match continued.

After kicking out of 3 RUNNING KNEE LIFTs, Hodge came roaring back, escaping a leg drop and hitting a knee lift of his own! A big backbreaker led to the OKLAHOMA SIDE ROLL, and the Middleweight champ takes the victory over Tommy Gilbert.

Bockwinkel & Stevens vs. and Adrian Adonis, Bob Orton Jr
Adrian Adonis defeated Nick Bockwinkel with a DQ at 6:42
Match Rating: 2.50
Match Notes: Adonis brought the fight to Bockwinkel early and nearly had him on dream street with GOODNIGHT IRENE.

As Bockwinkel struggled, Piper cheered on his team, and Heenan shouted advice.

The end looked near, but Heenan provided a timely distraction that allowed Bockwinkel to hit Orton with a chair and take over.

It was short-lived, though, and a strategic tag saw Adonis lock in GOODNIGHT IRENE again on Bockwinkel!

As Bockwinkel faded and Orton held off Stevens, Heenan could be seen motioning to the back...

Blackjack Mulligan ran out and jumped in the ring! He clocked Adonis, and the ref called for the bell!

What is this situation?!? It has been a strange night, to be sure, and this only raises more questions.

Brisco Brothers vs. The Kangaroos
for the NWA Central States Tag Team Championship
Al Costello defeated Jerry Brisco with a MARBLE BOR LEGLOCK at 14:21
Roy Heffernan defeated Jerry Brisco with a double-team piledriver at 19:19
Match Rating: 3.75
Match Notes: The Kangaroos come off this one looking simply unstoppable.

Jack Brisco looked great early on and took the fight to Roy and Al. Jerry came in and scored a big near fall with the FIGURE FOUR.

But the Kangaroos came back and punished Jerry. Costello applied the MARBLE BOR LEGLOCK to finish him off as Heffernan cut off Jack.

Jerry was isolated in the second fall, and the Kangaroos would not let up. They punished their opponent and hit the BOOMERANG!

Jack made the save, but as the ref escorted him from the ring, the Kangaroos hit a double-team piledriver on Jerry, and Roy got the 1, 2, 3!

The Kangaroos retain in two straight falls! To say the Brisco Brothers are disappointed would be an understatement... Back to the drawing board. And who's next? With the Valiants still on the shelf and the Brisco Brothers being vanquished, the Kangaroos stand at the top of the tag team mountain, and their manager couldn't be happier.

- -Steel Cage Grudge Match - Non-Title -
Buddy Rogers vs. Johnny Valentine
Johnny Valentine defeated Buddy Rogers with an ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHER at 22:36
Match Rating: 4.50
Match Notes: Great match! These two traded holds and blows the whole match, and even when it looked like one was going to run away with it, the other would come back.

Rogers tasted the steel first and was cut open. He lost a lot of blood throughout the match, and it very well could have played into the finish.

Valentine was on the offensive, but Rogers came back to life and hit a big piledriver to even the odds.

Rogers worked over Valentine's neck and was relentless. Valentine was split open after a trip into the steel, and both men wore the crimson mask.

Valentine saw an opening, though, and took it. He scored a near fall with a roll-up off the ropes and then hit a piledriver of his own! He hammered Rogers with not one but two ATOMIC SKULLCRUSHERs to get the win in this hard-fought contest.

Overall Card Rating: 2.70

[Pariah]

Enjoyed that brutal steel cage main event... And JV proves that his recent title victory was certainly not a fluke by scoring a blood soaked win over the Nature Boy.

Also very impressed with the 'Roos, who not only retained the tag belts against the Briscos... But, they did it in two straight falls... Nice work!

Kangaroos against Brisocs is one of those split decisions cause I like both teams. Congrats to Johnny Valentine on his big win.

Kenny Jay vs. Mad Dog Vachon
Mad Dog Vachon defeated Kenny Jay with a count-out at 3:44
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: Mad Dog Vachon returns to the Central States. He took the fight to Kenny Jay early and used his rule-breaking brawling style to wear Jay down.

The Sodbuster tried to turn it around late in the bout, but Vachon was just too much for him. He hit the Mad Dog Pounce, and Jay was sent out of the ring. Vachon then pursued him, and pile drove him on the floor!

The Mad Dog rolled in and seemed fine with scoring victory by way of count-out.

- Kangaroos Victory Celebration -
Larry Matysik welcomes Wild Red Berry and his charges to the announce desk. They immediately begin gloating about their victory over the Brisco Brothers in 2 straight falls. Costello also adds that they put the Valiants on the shelf when they injured Jimmy Valiant. They made the Flying Red Heads into a fly-by-night success when they took their titles back. Is there anyone that can hope to pose a real threat?

Matysik asks if they're at all concerned about the Valiants seeking revenge when Jimmy is healthy.

Heffernan says they're welcome to try but next time they might just get put out of wrestling altogether!

When asked about the new teams debuting recently, Red Berry tells Matysik they're happy to see so many teams ready for the slide to mediocrity when they step into the ring with true greatness - The Fabulous Kangaroos!

Fabulous Moolah vs. Joyce Grable
Fabulous Moolah defeated Joyce Grable with a JACKKNIFE CRADLE at 3:51
Match Rating: 2.50
Match Notes: This is Moolah's singles debut, and she has made it clear she wants a shot at Burke's title.

Grable wasn't going to make it easy and scored with a big vertical suplex, but Moolah came back and hit a pair of headbutts and then a clothesline in the corner to set up the JACKKNIFE CRADLE for the win.

Gordon Solie took to the ringside area to grab an interview.

Moolah immediately launches into a tirade about her greatness and that Mildred Burke should be very afraid of the threat she poses to the title. Burke wastes no time answering the challenge and asks Moolah how bad she wants it. Moolah says she'll wrestle her right here and now. Solie says there's no time for that, but Burke tells her she can have a non-title match on Monday!

- Bill Dundee Interview -
Superstar Bill Dundee is ringside with Larry Matysik and is asked about Bobby Shane’s actions on the last card. Dundee says that Shane showed what kind of man he is by ripping a cane from the arms of a little old lady to hit him with it and then used his JAPANESE SLEEPER outside the ring. It gave Dundee an idea… If Bobby Shane wants to break the rules and use his move in the aisle, why not have a match without any rules where pinfalls count anywhere! The match will happen Monday night!

Adrian Adonis vs. Ray Stevens

Solie was interviewing Heenan and Stevens prior to the match when they exchanged words with Piper at the desk. Adonis came out to try and even the odds, but Bockwinkel blindsided him with an attack of his own! Orton was out to try to even the odds, but the damage was done.

Adonis wanted to continue, though, and we've got a match!

---

Stevens started firmly in control, and Adonis was hurting from the pre-match attack. Adonis wasn't going down without a fight, though. He fought back and hit a big suplex. Stevens would battle back and hit the BOMBS AWAY!

Orton distracted the ref, and soon we had quite the brouhaha! Everyone got in on the action, and the ref decided to give some leeway until order was restored.

Adonis hit a DDT for a near fall and kept the pressure on applying GOODNIGHT IRENE, but Stevens made the ropes.

Adonis was in control, and Stevens struggled to come back. Eventually, Adonis applied GOODNIGHT IRENE again, but Heenan distracted the ref and tried to slip Stevens a pair of knucks... Adonis intercepted and has the knucks!

While Heenan works the ref, Adonis clocks Stevens with the knucks! Stevens is busted open, and Adonis makes the cover! 1, 2, 3!

What a gutsy performance by Adonis. The fans are eating this up. Heenan is beside himself but helps Stevens to his feet as the Family regroups, and Piper's posse stands victorious for now.

- We interrupt this program... -
As Solie and Piper run down the Monday night card, they are interrupted by none other than Bullet Bob Armstrong! Armstrong tells them both to listen up. He is the DuMont Network Television Champion, and he has come to the Central States to put wrestlers on notice. His title is considered an open weight title, and he will accept all comers beginning next week with the DuMont open challenge! But that’s not all because starting next Friday, the Central States will now be represented by Wrestling At Marigold emanating from Chicago, IL!

Larry Matysik hands Gordon Solie a note. He confirms what Armstrong has just said along with the big announcement that the International Amphitheatre in Chicago will be the sight of a special event, a super card if you will, on the very first Sunday in March!

Buddy Rogers vs. Harley Race
Buddy Rogers defeated Harley Race with a FIGURE FOUR GRAPEVINEFOUR LEG LOCK at 30:34
Match Rating: 5.00
Match Notes: NWA Central States Heavyweight Champion Johnny Valentine joined Solie and Piper at the announce desk before the match.

This was an incredible match. It was announced prior that it would be given TV time remaining rather than the standard 30-minute time limit.

For over 30 minutes, these two traded holds and went on astonishing and punishing runs of offense that had the other nearly out for the count. But submissions were broken, pins were escaped, and they soldiered on in hopes of taking the fight to John Valentine for the Central States Heavyweight title.

Race was in control for long stretches and planted Rogers for a near fall with the VERTICAL SUPLEX. Race thought he had Rogers late in the match after the PILEDRIVER, but Rogers kicked out! Rogers was busted open after Race posted him on the outside, and things became more heated, and brawling ensued.

Race was split open late in the match after a big jumping knee smash to the face. Rogers capitalized on his momentum to apply the FIGURE FOUR for a second time to secure the victory!

Nature Boy Buddy Rogers will get another chance at Johnny Valentine, and this time for the title! He earned it in this utter war with Harley Race!

Johnny Valentine immediately left the announce desk and took to the ring holding his title high.

[Rogers - 4 tokens, Race - 3 tokens; a total of 6 finishers were used throughout the match - 4 by Race (2 of each) and 2 by Rogers. Truly a special match.]

Overall Card Rating: 2.78

Absolutely brilliant performance by the Nature Boy to secure his title shot... Especially coming off that brutal loss to JV just a few days before.

And of course, I'm loving the exploits of Piper, Adonis & Orton - it's especially cool watching this trio fill the babyface role against Heenan's current family... Very well done!

Thanks for the comments TTX & Pariah! It was easy to envision Rogers' performance in that match after reading Tim Hornbaker's book. In the late 40s and early 50s, he engaged in a lot of matches that played out very close to what happened against Race in this one - the blood, the brawling, the comeback. I'd set things up with the idea that whoever won Rogers would probably continue his feud with Valentine one way or another (they actually feuded quite a lot at the beginning of Valentine's career) and that Race would start moving towards a potential feud with Thesz, especially if he could beat Valentine.

I'm having a lot of fun with the Piper/Adonis/Orton vs Heenan's Family feud right now. I've used Piper as a 'tweener pretty much from the get-go and will probably continue that, but really it's just an excuse to allow him to fill either role, and Adonis and Orton will fall in line with that as needed. Of course, the Brain is just getting started and it won't be long before more additions are made to the Family.

Between those two and the Dundee/Shane feud and the women's scene, I'm happy with where things are right now, though the Kangaroos dominance does have me a little stuck for a new challenger right now - we'll see what happens.

Bob Backlund vs. Johnny Rodz
Bob Backlund defeated Johnny Rodz with an ATOMIC DROP at 3:13
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: Both men make their Central States debut in this opening contest. Rodz attempted to strong-arm Backlund into the corner, but Backlund reversed and never looked back. He wowed the crowd with a delayed vertical suplex and kept the pressure on to eventually secure a strong win with the ATOMIC DROP.

Toni Rose vs. Princess Victoria
Toni Rose defeated Princess Victoria with a NECKBREAKER at 9:12
Match Rating: 3.25
Match Notes: Really good action from these two. See-sawed early on but Victoria took over and nearly scored an early win, but Rose would come back under spurious circumstances on the outside and build to her patented NECKBREAKER to score the win.

The Vachons vs. and Don Curtis , Mike Graham
Butcher Vachon defeated Mike Graham with a big boot to face at 3:39

Match Notes: The Vachons took Curtis and especially Mike Graham to task and steamrolled to an easy win with their smash mouth brawling style.

Bob Orton Jr vs. Nick Bockwinkel
Nick Bockwinkel defeated Bob Orton Jr with a FIGURE FOUR LEGLOCK at 4:21
Match Rating: 2.50
Match Notes: Orton was no match for the prowess of Bockwinkel even with Adrian Adonis as his second. Stevens and Heenan may have helped provide just enough of an edge, but the truth is Bockwinkel's skill in the ring caught Orton off guard and he went to work on the legs and back before locking in a FIGURE FOUR to secure the win.

Fabulous Moolah vs. Mildred Burke
Fabulous Moolah defeated Mildred Burke with a JACKKNIFE CRADLE at 12:12
Match Rating: 3.75
Match Notes: Burke might have underestimated Moolah a little bit going into this as Moolah attacked at the bell and looked to take the champ out early. Burke was reeling after Moolah took her outside and whipped her into the guardrail, and then slammed her on the floor.

Burke wouldn't stay down, though, and survived two BODY PRESS attempts, even one after the ref was knocked for a loop by a move off the top from Moolah.

Burke, ever the champion, battled back, though. In her weakened state, she failed to capitalize on some big moves they see-sawed towards the end.

Tensions rose, and the fight spilled outside again with Moolah battling back and slamming Burke's spine into the post! She nearly scored a count-out win, but Burke made it back in and was met with the JACKKNIFE CRADLE for the 1, 2, 3!

With this win, Moolah has surely punched her ticket to a title shot!

Burke was hurting after the match but made it to the back on her own.

Match Notes: What a fight! Shane controlled the early portion in the ring, but once things spilled outside it went back and forth. Dundee was a bloody mess and things went from bad to worse after Shane shattered a beer bottle over Dundee's head. He then slammed him through a wall and got a hard fought win. Dundee's resilience and bloody visage earned him his share of fans tonight, though.

Match Notes: This was a war. An incredible match that had fans on the edge of their seats and hopping to their feet numerous times. The action see-sawed the entire time and there were multiple pin attempts and finishers used. Rogers took the first fall with a jumping knee smash in a little over 12 minutes, but Valentine evened the playing field with a roll up out of no where in the corner. The final fall was brutal as both men faced exhaustion and blood loss - Valentine from a gash on his forehead and Rogers from a cut above the left eye. Eventually a string of reversals led to a big back suplex from Valentine and then a chest caving chop to retain his title in a stone-cold classic!

[Rogers - 7 tokens, Valentine - 6 tokens]

Overall Card Rating: 2.67

Wow! Valentine and Rogers both delivered the goods in that Best of 3 Falls main event... And even though I expected a bit more from Burke offensively, there is no denying that Moolah was on point in Kansas City... Expecting an all-out war when those two actually face off with the gold up for grabs... A brilliant return to form, my friend... Excited for whatever comes next!

- Ladies & Gentlemen, Johnny Valentine... -
Larry Matysik introduces the reigning NWA Central States Heavyweight Champion. The crowd at the Chase gives the champ a great reaction a little under a week past the incredible title defense against Buddy Rogers. Valentine thanks the fans and promises to continue to defend the title with guts and toughness. Matysik then announces that Valentine has earned the right to face Lou Thesz at the International Amphitheatre in Chicago on 2/22!

Bob Backlund vs. Kenny Jay
Bob Backlund defeated Kenny Jay with an undertook suplex at 3:34
Match Rating: 0.10
Match Notes: Newcomer Backlund acquits himself well in his Chase debut. After a quick win over Johnny Rodz at All Star Wrestling, he continues to build momentum with another convincing win.

Gordon Solie grabbed a word with the victor after the match.

Backlund is the picture of humility and even says Jay showed him a lot by not staying down after a piledriver. He closes by saying he's looking forward to his upcoming match in Kansas City against Nacho Barrera.

- A moment with the Heenan Family... -
Roddy Piper excuses himself from the announce desk telling Gordon Solie he wants no part of Heenan and his stooges unless it's in the ring!

Nick Bockwinkel is cool and cocky as he guarantees his partner Ray Stevens will take Adrian Adonis out tonight just like he outclassed "Cowboy" Bob Orton Jr.!

Heenan tells Solie that no one Piper runs with is a match for his Family. And now that he's added Blackjack Mulligan to the crew he wants everyone to know that his family is far from complete - "I've got guys all over this country that are calling me up saying 'Bobby, I'll come in there and wipe Piper out for you!'"

At this point, Piper returns with Orton and Adonis and tells Heenan he's had enough! He challenges Nick Bockwinkel to a match at the International Amphitheater! Solie questions if he'll be ready to return from injury by then, but Piper shrugs it off. Heenan and Bockwinkel smile and tell him he has no idea what they have in store for him and his cronies!

Flying Redheads vs. The Vachons
Mad Dog Vachon defeated Red Bastien with a DQ at 2:07
Match Rating: 0.00
Match Notes: The Flying Redheads have struggled since losing the tag titles to the Kangaroos while the Vachons have just appeared on the scene and have a win under their belts.

Bastien was tripped up by Butcher early and he and Mad Dog double-teamed Bastien forcing him to the outside. Mad Dog pounced on the outside and Bastien was nearly counted out.

Lyons took exception to his partner's treatment and tried to get the ref's attention. Mad Dog hit his PILEDRIVER and Lyons distraction prevented the ref from making the count. Mad Dog then heaved Bastien into the ref! As he got up he mistakenly believed Bastien had hit him and called for the bell!

A controversial ending will likely lead to something... The Vachons threaten with chairs as the Redheads try to regroup...

- The Fabulous Moolah -
Gordon Solie and Roddy Piper have the Fabulous Moolah at the announce desk. Moolah brags about her win over the women's champ and says that her path is set to the title. Solie confirms that the Moolah will get her shot in a 2/3 falls match this Monday night!

As Moolah begins to crow about beating Burke within an inch of her life, there's a stir in the crowd that grows into cheers as Penny Banner makes her return to the Chase!

Piper excitedly asks Banner how she is, and Banner tells Moolah she's waited a long time to get her rightful shot at the women's title - she's dealt with injury, dirty tactics, and now line jumpers... She wants Moolah AND Burke to know that whoever wins this Monday has a date with Penny Banner!

Bob Armstrong vs. Bobby Shane
for the Television Championship
Bob Armstrong defeated Bobby Shane with a GEORGIA JAWJACKER at 5:01
Match Rating: 3.25
Match Notes: Bob Armstrong brings his DuMont Network Television Championship to the Chase for an open challenge! Bobby Shane answers the challenge and the fans who were a little split of Bullet Bob are now firmly in his corner.

Shane took the fight to Armstrong early and looked like he might dominate the match but Armstrong rolled out after two consecutive bulldogs and was able to take over on the outside by pushing Shane into the post!
Feeling the effects of the earlier assault, Armstrong struggled to maintain control, but he caught Shane off the ropes with a big piledriver and followed up with the vertical suplex, karate chops, and the GEORGIA JAWJACKER to successfully defend his title!

Gordon Solie grabs a word with Armstrong after the match and Bobby Shane interrupts pushing Solie aside and screaming that Armstrong cheated! "Bullet" Bob tells Bobby Shane he's more than happy to prove he's the better this Monday in Kansas City... but it won't be for the title - he only defends that on TV and against worthy opponents. Bobby Shane is hopping mad and Solie tells him to hit the bricks and cool off as Armstrong holds up the title.

Adrian Adonis vs. Ray Stevens
Ray Stevens defeated Adrian Adonis with a DQ at 3:30
Match Rating: 2.25
Match Notes: The enmity between Adonis and Stevens has been growing and spilled out of the grudge between Bockwinkel and Piper. On their last meeting, a miscue by manager Bobby Heenan allowed Adonis to clock Stevens with a foreign object and score the pinfall. It also earned Adonis his share of supporters for a gutsy performance up until that point.

This match got off to a promising start and Adonis built a head of steam off some big moves including the DDT.

The action spilled out and Adonis was a house of fire as he pursued Stevens around the ring. The ref came out to warn Adonis and Stevens pulled the ref in front of him as Adonis went to strike!

The ref went down and called for the bell! He awards the match to Stevens!

Adonis is irate as Heenan is seen motioning to the back! Here comes Mulligan and the Masked Superstar! They blindside Adonis and beat him down before double-teaming him into the steel post spine first! Adonis drops like a ton of bricks.

Piper and Orton are out with chairs to drive them off but the damage is done.
