Episode T1 - September 8
After Freddie Miller’s familiar intro, Gordon Solie welcomes viewers to this week’s show, and we get down to action…
Don Muraco & Lani Kealoha vs. Dennis Condrey & Tommy Gilbert, Jr. (1) - The high flying duo from Hawaii took on the newcomers from the Southern circuit. Kealoha demonstrated fantastic flying early on, but Muraco also showed some spark with a flying shoulder tackle that leveled the second generation grappler. Muraco & Kealoha made quick work of their opponents, winning when Muraco dropped Gilbert, Jr. with his HAWAIIAN HAMMER reverse piledriver.
INTERVIEW - Bobby Heenan & Rock Riddle discuss their tag title defense against Mike Graham & Larry Zybszko, coming up in two weeks at the Omni. The young challengers took exception to the champions’ verbal barbs and came out to stand up for themselves. Nick Bockwinkel, an associate of the tag team champions, attempted to sneak up on Graham & Zybszko, but Jim Brunzell came out to even the odds. After a lot of yelling and taunting, order was restored and Brunzell went into the ring for his match.
Jim Brunzell vs. Randy Poffo - Poffo attempted to ambush Brunzell, but Brunzell grabbed him in a side headlock and took control of the match. He picked up Poffo and unceremoniously dumped him in a big power slam. The three count followed, and Brunzell was declared the victor.
INTERVIEW - Gordon Solie introduces Frank “The Hammer” Goodish, a newcomer to Georgia Championship Wrestling. Goodish chuckled at Poffo’s quick defeat, and questioned the level of talent in George Championship Wrestling. Solie assured Goodish that the talent in the area was top notch, and that Poffo was an outlier. Goodish ranted, raved, and barked (?) and said he’d make his mark in GCW, just like he had in other promotions.
Ivan Koloff vs. Mike Graham (2) - Koloff is a dangerous competitor, who went right to work on Graham. The Russian dropped him with a big neckbreaker, and then delivered a vicious backbreaker. As Koloff argued with official Bobby Simmons, Bobby Heenan came to ringside and choked the downed Graham with Koloff’s chain. Koloff picked up Graham for a body slam, but Graham went up and over and delivered a pair of quick dropkicks. As Graham went to the corner for a monkey flip, Heenan grabbed his ankle and Koloff came crashing down on top. Koloff put his feet on the ropes while covering Graham, unseen by Simmons, who delivered the three count. Koloff and Heenan celebrated as a stunned and confused Graham struggled to get back to his feet.
INTERVIEW - Bob Roop discusses his title shot at World Heavyweight Champion Jack Brisco, coming up in two weeks at the Omni. Roop claimed that Brisco has ducked his challenges in Miami, San Francisco and Houston, but he finally had him cornered in the Omni, in two weeks. Solie dismissed Roop’s claims of the champion avoiding him, citing Brisco’s busy schedule of title defenses. Roop shot Solie a nasty look, telling him all of the champion’s excuses won’t save the title.
MAIN EVENT - The Destroyer vs. Fritz Von Goering (3) - After the introductions, Solie made note of the two competitors’ prior battles on the West Coast, where they had traded the Western States Heavyweight Championship. A quick exchange of holds started the match off, but the Destroyer soon took control. He used a trio of airplane spins to disorient Von Goering, and then came crashing down with two big Bombs Away knee drops. The masked man used a grinding bow and arrow hold, followed by another airplane spin for the impressive victory.
Solie thanked the fans for attending, and reminded them to get their tickets for the Omni show in two weeks, where Jack Brisco would defend his World Heavyweight Championship against Bob Roop, and Heenan & Riddle would defend the World Tag Team Championship against Graham & Zybszko.
